Metal-organic gels (MOGs) are a type of metal-organic colloid material with a large specific surface area, loose porous structure, and open metal active sites. In this work, FeNi-MOGs were synthesized by the simple one-step static method, using Fe(III) and Ni(II) as the central metal ions and terephthalic acid as the organic ligand. The prepared FeNi-MOGs could effectively catalyze the chemiluminescence of luminol without the involvement of H 2 O 2 , which exhibited good catalytic activity. Then, the multifunctional detected platform was constructed for the detection of GSH and Hg 2+ , based on the antioxidant capacity of GSH, and the strong affinity between mercury ion (Hg 2+ ) and GSH which inactivated the antioxidant capacity of GSH. The experimental limits of detection (LOD) for GSH and Hg 2+ were 76 nM and 210 nM, and the detection ranges were 2-100 μM and 8-4000 μM, respectively. The as-proposed sensor had good performance in both detection limit and detection range of GSH and Hg 2+ , which fully met the needs of daily life. Surprisingly, the sensor had low detection limits and an extremely wide detection range for Hg 2+ , spanning five orders of magnitude. Furthermore, the detection of mercury ions in actual lake water and GSH in human serum showed good results, with recovery rates ranging from 90.10 % to 105.37 %, which proved that the method was accurate and reliable. For the sustainable advancement of industrial expansion that is environmentally conscious, harmful dyes must be removed from wastewater. Untreated effluents containing colors have the potential to harm the ecosystem and pose major health risks to people, animals, and aquatic life. Here, we have fabricated Ni or Fe modified with BaTiO 3 materials and effectively utilized them for Reactive Red 120 (RR 120) dye degradation under UV-A light. The synthesized materials were characterized, and their structural, and photo-physical properties were reported. Phase segregation was not present in the XRD pattern, as evidenced by the absence of secondary phase peaks linked to iron, nickel, or oxides. Low metal ion concentrations may be the cause of this, and the presence of those elements was confirmed by XPS measurements. The Raman spectra of the BaTiO 3 /Ni and BaTiO 3 /Fe samples show a widened peak at 500 cm -1 , which suggests that Ni or Fe are efficiently loaded onto the BaTiO 3 . RR 120 dye photodegradation under UV light conditions was effectively catalyzed by BaTiO 3 /Fe, as evidenced by its superior performance in the UV irradiation technique over both BaTiO 3 and BaTiO 3 /Ni. Compared to bare BaTiO 3 , both metal-modified materials efficiently degraded the RR 120 dye. Acidic pH facilitated the degradation process, which makes sense given that the heterogeneous photo-Fenton reaction was the mechanism of degradation along with BaTiO 3 sensitization. High-acidity sewage can be dangerous and carcinogenic, and conventional biological treatment methods are not appropriate for managing it. In the current investigation, it may be used to treat color effluents with extremely low pH levels. In the work, water-soluble bovine serum albumin-protected fluorescent nickel nanoclusters (BSA-NiNCs) are used as fluorescent probes to construct a label-free fluorescence quenching sensor for sensitive and selective detection of tartrazine. The fluorescent BSA-NiNCs are synthesized in one pot using BSA as both the template and reducing agent, and hydrogen peroxide as the additive. The as-prepared NiNCs are characterized by using various analytical techniques like transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The synthesized BSA-NiNCs have a quantum yield of ca. 8% by using quinine sulfate as a standard. The sensor for tartrazine detection shows a wide linear range of 0.01-3.5 μM, with a low detection limit of 4 nM. The fluorescence quenching very likely results from the combination of the intermolecular interactions and the secondary inner filter effect between BSA-NiNCs and tartrazine. Nickel ions (Ni 2+ ) were detected by a new imidazole modified carbon dots (CDs) based on fluorescence quenching method. Structural characterization of CD-imidazole quantum dots were accomplished by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Spectroscopic properties were characterized by ultraviolet absorption spectrum and fluorescence spectrum. Ni 2+ concentration showed good linear relationship with fluorescence quenching efficiency in the range of 6-100 mM (R = 0.99) and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.93 mM. Imidazole modified CDs have strong selectivity of Ni 2+ compared with other metal ions in aqueous solution. A new Schiff base of 2-aminobenzimidazole with 2,4-dihydroybezaldehyde (H₃L), and its Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance, thermal analysis (TGA), inductive coupled plasma (ICP), magnetic moment measurements, IR, EI-mass, UV-Vis. and ESR spectral studies. On the basis of spectral studies and analytical data, it is evident that the Schiff base acts as dibasic tridentate ligand coordinating via deprotonated OH, NH and azomethine nitrogen atom. The results showed that Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes have tetrahedral structure while Cu(II) complexes has octahedral geometry. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of the thermal decomposition stages have been evaluated. The studied complexes were tested for their in vitro antimicrobial activities against some bacterial strains. The anticancer activity of the ligand and its metal complexes is evaluated against human liver Carcinoma (HEPG2) cell. These compounds exhibited a moderate and weak activity against the tested HEPG2 cell lines with IC₅₀ of 9.08, 18.2 and 19.7 μg/ml for ligand, Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes, respectively. In this study, ZnS:Ni(2+) nanostructures have been synthesized through chemical precipitation method using poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (pHEMA) as capping agent. The structural, morphological and optical properties at different pHEMA concentration of ZnS:Ni(2+) were studied by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), UV-Vis Spectroscopy (UV-Vis), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Photoluminescence (PL). The Average crystalline size of the nanoparticles was found to be in the range of ∼3.59-4.36 nm. The surface morphological analysis reveals that the pHEMA capped nanoparticles showed homogeneous smooth surface. HR-TEM analysis reminds the original size of pHEMA capped nanoparticles. The band gap investigation revealed the size dependent of quantum confined nanoparticles. The immobilized nanoparticles in pHEMA matrix were verified by FT-IR studies. Novel luminescence properties have been observed for uncapped and pHEMA capped ZnS nanoparticles. A new series of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of (Z)-2-oxo-2-(phenylamino)-N'-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)acetohydrazide (H2OPPAH) have been prepared and characterized by conventional techniques. The spectral data indicated that the ligand acts as neutral or mononegative NNO tridentate. On the basis of magnetic and electronic spectral data an octahedral geometry for Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes and a tetrahedral geometry for Co(II) complex have been proposed. The molecular modeling using DFT method are drawn showing the bond length, bond angle, chemical reactivity, energy components (kcal/mol) and binding energy (kcal/mol) for all title compounds. The Kinetic parameters were determined for each thermal degradation stages of the ligand and its complexes using Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger methods. Also, the compounds were screened for antioxidant activity using ABTS free radical, anti-hemolytic, and in vitro cytotoxic assay. H2OPPAH showed the potent antioxidant activity followed by Co(II) and Cu(II) complexes. A simple co-precipitation method has been used for the synthesis of Co(2+) and Ni(2+)-doped zinc borate nanopowders. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), UV/Vis absorption, Scanning electron microscope (SEM) with EDS and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopies techniques has been employed for their characterization. Powder X-ray diffraction data reveals that the crystal structure belongs to monoclinic for both as-prepared samples. SEM images showed surface morphology of the prepared samples. Optical absorption spectra showed the characteristic bands of doped ions in octahedral site symmetry. From the optical absorption data crystal field and inter-electronic repulsion parameters are evaluated. The FT-IR spectra showed the characteristic vibrational bands related to ZnO, BO3 and BO4 molecules. Synthesis of new complexes of Ni(II) (1) and Zn(II) (2) with [1-(2-hydroxy-3,5-diiodobenzylidene)-4-phenylthiosemicarbazide] have been reported. The composition of these two complexes 1 and 2 is discussed on the basis of IR, (1)H NMR and UV spectral data along with their X-ray crystallographic data. The crystal structure of these two complexes has revealed that the free ligand (L) is deprotonated twice at the oxygen and sulfur atoms and they are coordinated with the complexes through phenoxide-O, azomethine-N and thiolate-S atoms. The single-crystal X-ray structures of complex (1) exhibits a square planar structure, while complex (2) reveals trigonal bipyramidal distorted square based pyramidal structure. Anticancer activity of ligand and the complexes 1-2 are evaluated in human adenocarcinoma (MCF-7) cells. Glasses of the composition (30-x)PbO-5Bi2O3-65SiO2: xNiO (with x ranging from 0 to 1.0 mol%) were synthesized. A variety of spectroscopic studies, viz., IR, Raman optical absorption and luminescence properties of these glasses have been carried out as a function of NiO concentration. The analysis of results of all these studies has indicated that the nickel ions occupy both octahedral and tetrahedral positions. However, with the increase of NiO concentration the octahedral occupancy of Ni(2+) ions prevailed over the tetrahedral ions. The luminescence spectra of these glasses have exhibited a broad NIR emission band in region 1100-1500 nm. This band is identified as being due to (3)T2(3F)→(3)A2(3F) octahedral transition of Ni(2+) ions. The luminescence efficiency and cross section have been found to be the highest for the glass containing the highest concentration of NiO. A series of new bimetallic complexes of nickel(II) and vanadium(IV) have been synthesized by the reaction of the new double bidentate Schiff base ligands with nickel acetate and vanadyl acetylacetonate in 1:1 M ratio. In nickel and also vanadyl complexes the ligands were coordinated to the metals via the imine N and enolic O atoms. The complexes have been found to possess 1:1 metals to ligands stoichiometry and the molar conductance data revealed that the metal complexes were non-electrolytes. The nickel and vanadyl complexes exhibited distorted square planar and square pyramidal coordination geometries, respectively. The emission spectra of the ligands and their complexes were studied in methanol. Electrochemical properties of the ligands and their metal complexes were also investigated in DMSO solvent at 150 mV s(-1) scan rate. The ligands and metal complexes showed both quasi-reversible and irreversible processes at this scan rate. The Schiff bases and their complexes have been characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, UV/Vis spectroscopies, elemental analysis and conductometry. In the present research work, the FT-IR, FT-Raman spectra of the Bis(thiourea) Nickel chloride (BTNC) were recorded and analyzed. The observed fundamental frequencies in finger print and functional group regions were assigned according to their uniqueness region. The computational calculations were carried out by HF and DFT (B3LYP and B3PW91) methods with 6-31++G(d,p) and 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets and the corresponding results were tabulated. The present organo-metallic compound was made up of covalent and coordination covalent bonds. The modified vibrational pattern of the complex molecule associated with ligand group was analyzed. Furthermore, the (13)C NMR and (1)H NMR spectral data were calculated by using the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) method with B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) basis set and their spectra were simulated and the chemical shifts linked to TMS were compared. A investigation on the electronic and optical properties; absorption wavelengths, excitation energy, dipole moment and frontier molecular orbital energies were carried out. The kubo gap of the present compound was calculated related to HOMO and LUMO energies which confirm the occurring of charge transformation between the base and ligand. Besides frontier molecular orbitals (FMO), molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) was performed. In this study, [Ni(dien)2]⋅smz2⋅(Hsmz: sulfamethazine and dien: diethylenetriamine) complex has been synthesized and its crystal structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction technique. The title complex crystallizes in orthorhombic system with space group Pbnb [a=8.556(5), b=16.228(5), c=28.209(5)Å, V=3917(3)Å(3) and Z=4]. The nickel(II) ion has distorted octahedral coordination geometry. The metal atom, which rides on a crystallographic center of symmetry, is coordinated by six nitrogen atoms of two dien ligands to form a discrete [Ni(dien)2](2+) unit, which captures two sulfamethazine ions, each through intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The powder EPR spectrum of Cu(2+) doped Ni(II) complex was recorded at room temperature. The vibrational investigation has been carried out by considering the characteristic bands related to the functional groups of the complex. The electrochemical behavior of Ni(II) ions in the presence and in the absence of smz and dien were studied by square wave and cyclic voltammetry. A well-defined irreversible peak at -1.112V different from those of the Ni(II)-smz (-0.876V) and the Ni(II)-dien complex (-1.064V) was observed in the solution containing Ni(II) ions, which was attributed to the formation of the new mixed ligand complex of Ni(II) with smz and dien., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier B.V. Some transition metal complexes of phenylalanine of general formula [M(C9H10NO2)2]; where M=Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) are prepared in aqueous medium and characterized by spectroscopic, thermo-gravimetric (TG) and magnetic susceptibility analysis. Density functional theory (DFT) has been employed calculating the equilibrium geometries and vibrational frequencies of those complexes at B3LYP level of theory using 6-31G(d) and SDD basis sets. In addition, frontier molecular orbital and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations are performed with CAM-B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) and B3LYP/SDD level of theories. Thermo-gravimetric analysis confirms the composition of the complexes by comparing the experimental and calculated data for C, H, N and metals. Experimental and computed IR results predict a significant change in vibrational frequencies of metal-phenylalanine complexes compared to free ligand. DFT calculation confirms that Mn, Co, Ni and Cu complexes form square planar structure whereas Zn adopts distorted tetrahedral geometry. The metal-oxygen bonds in the optimized geometry of all complexes are shorter compared to the metal-nitrogen bonds which is consistent with a previous study. Cation-binding energy, enthalpy and Gibbs free energy indicates that these complexes are thermodynamically stable. UV-vis and TD-DFT studies reveal that these complexes demonstrate representative metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) and d-d transitions bands. TG analysis and IR spectra of the metal complexes strongly support the absence of water in crystallization. Ni(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes of 5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole-3-imine-2'-hydroxynaphthaline have been isolated and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, (1)H NMR, EI-mass, UV-vis, molar conductance, magnetic moment measurements and thermogravimetric analysis. The molar conductance values indicated that the complexes are non-electrolytes. The magnetic moment values of the complexes displayed diamagnetic behavior for Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes and tetrahedral geometrical structure for Ni(II) complex. From the bioinorganic applications point of view, the interaction of the ligand and its metal complexes with CT-DNA was investigated using absorption and viscosity titration techniques. The Schiff-base ligand and its metal complexes have also been screened for their antimicrobial and antitumor activities. Also, theoretical investigation of molecular and electronic structures of the studied ligand and its metal complexes has been carried out. Molecular orbital calculations were performed using DFT (density functional theory) at B3LYP level with standard 6-31G(d,p) and LANL2DZ basis sets to access reliable results to the experimental values. The calculations were performed to obtain the optimized molecular geometry, charge density distribution, extent of distortion from regular geometry, the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO), Mulliken atomic charges, reactivity index (ΔE), dipole moment (D), global hardness (η), softness (σ), electrophilicity index (ω), chemical potential and Mulliken electronegativity (χ)., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier B.V. Novel Schiff's base ligand, benzil bis(5-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thiol) was synthesized by the condensation of benzil and 5-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thiol in 1:2 ratio. The structure of ligand was determined on the basis of elemental analyses, IR, (1)H NMR, mass, and molecular modeling studies. Synthesized ligand behaved as tetradentate and coordinated to metal ion through sulfur atoms of thiol ring and nitrogen atoms of imine group. Ni(II), and Cu(II) complexes were synthesized with this nitrogen-sulfur donor (N2S2) ligand. Metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, electronic spectra, EPR, thermal, and molecular modeling studies. All the complexes showed molar conductance corresponding to non-electrolytic nature, expect [Ni(L)](NO3)2 complex, which was 1:2 electrolyte in nature. [Cu(L)(SO4)] complex may possessed square pyramidal geometry, [Ni(L)](NO3)2 complex tetrahedral and rest of the complexes six coordinated octahedral/tetragonal geometry. Newly synthesized ligand and its metal complexes were examined against the opportunistic pathogens. The metal complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) have been synthesized from 6-formyl-7,8-dihydroxy-4-methylcoumarin with o-toluidine/3-aminobenzotrifluoride. The synthesized Schiff bases and their metal complexes were structurally characterized based on IR, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, UV-visible, ESR, magnetic, thermal, fluorescence, mass and ESI-MS studies. The molar conductance values indicate that complexes are non-electrolytic in nature. Elemental analysis reveals ML2·2H2O [M = Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II)] stoichiometry, where 'L' stands for a singly deprotonated ligand. The presence of co-ordinated water molecules were confirmed by thermal studies. The spectroscopic studies suggest the octahedral geometry. Redox behavior of the complexes were confirmed by cyclic voltammetry. All the synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas auregenosa, klebsiella, Proteus, Staphylococcus aureus and salmonella) antifungal (Candida, Aspergillus niger and Rhizopus), anthelmintic (Pheretima posthuma) and DNA cleavage (Calf Thymus DNA) activity., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier B.V. In the present work, pure and metal substituted L-Prolinium trichloroacetate (LPTCA) single crystals were grown by slow evaporation method. The grown crystals were subjected to single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), powder X-ray diffraction, FTIR, UV-Visible-NIR, hardness, photoluminescence and dielectric studies. The dopant concentration in the crystals was measured by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analysis. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies of the pure and metal substituted LPTCA revealed that the grown crystals belong to the trigonal system. Ni(2+) and Co(2+) doping slightly altered the lattice parameters of LPTCA without affecting the basic structure of the crystal. FTIR spectral analysis confirms the presence of various functional groups in the grown crystals. The mechanical behavior of pure and doped crystals was analyzed by Vickers's microhardness test. An unexpected Schiff base-type Ni(II) complex, [Ni(L(2))2]⋅CH3OH (HL(2) = 1-(2-{[(E)-3, 5-dibromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene]amino}phenyl)ethanone oxime), has been synthesized via complexation of Ni(II) acetate tetrahydrate with HL(1) (2-(3,5-dibromo-2-hydroxyphenyl)-4-methyl-1,2-dihydroquinazoline 3-oxide) originally. HL(1) and its corresponding Ni(II) complex were characterized by IR, (1)H NMR spectra, as well as by elemental analysis, UV-Vis and emission spectroscopy, respectively. Crystal structures of the ligand and complex have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Each complex links two other molecules into an infinite 1-D chain via intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. Moreover, the electrochemical property of the nickle complex was studied by cyclic voltammetry. An efficient method for the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue in an aqueous medium was developed using metal-organic complexes. Two novel complexes were synthesized using, Schiff base ligand, N'-[(E)-(4-ethylphenyl)methylidene]-4-hydroxybenzohydrazide (HL) and Ni(II) (Complex 1)/Co(II) (Complex 2) chloride respectively. These complexes were characterized using microanalysis, various spectral techniques. Spectral studies reveal that the complexes exhibit square planar geometry with ligand coordination through azomethine nitrogen and enolic oxygen. The effects of catalyst dosage, irradiation time and aqueous pH on the photocatalytic activity were studied systematically. The photocatalytic activity was found to be more efficient in the presence of Ni(II) complexes than the Co(II) complex. Possible mechanistic aspects were discussed., (Copyright © 2014. Two new heterodinuclear Schiff base complexes, [Hg(L)NiCl2(DMF)2] 1, and [Zn(L)NiCl2(DMF)2] 2, where H2L = N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,3-diaminopropane and DMF = dimethylformamide have been synthesized and characterized using elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction. Structural studies on 1 and 2 reveal the presence of a heterodinuclear [Ni(II)Hg(II)] unit and [Zn(II)Ni(II)] in which the central metal ions are connected to each other by two phenolate oxygen bridges. For complex 1 the Ni(II) ion adopts an elongated octahedral geometry (NiN2O4) while the Hg(II) ion assumes a distorted tetrahedral arrangement (HgO2Cl2) whereas for complex 2 the Zn(II) ion adopts an elongated octahedral geometry (ZnN2O4) while the Ni(II) ion assumes a distorted tetrahedral arrangement (NiO2Cl2). A novel visible light active and magnetically separable nanophotocatalyst, Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4/Zn0.95Ni0.05O (denoted as NZF@Z), with varying amount of Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4, has been synthesized by egg albumen assisted sol gel technique. The structural, optical, magnetic, and photocatalytic properties have been studied by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) techniques. Powder XRD, TEM, FTIR and energy dispersive spectroscopic (EDS) analyses confirm coexistence of Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 and Zn0.95Ni0.05O phases in the catalyst. Crystallite sizes of Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 and Zn0.95Ni0.05O in pure phases and nanocomposites, estimated from Debye-Scherrer equation, are found to be around 15-25 nm. The estimated particle sizes from TEM and FESEM data are ∼(22±6) nm. The calculated energy band gaps, obtained by Tauc relation from UV-Vis absorption spectra, of Zn0.95Ni0.05O, 15%NZF@Z, 40%NZF@Z and 60%NZF@Z are 2.95, 2.72, 2.64, and 2.54 eV respectively. Magnetic measurements (field (H) dependent magnetization (M)) show all samples to be super-paramagnetic in nature and saturation magnetizations (Ms) decrease with decreasing ferrite content in the nanocomposites. NiO/nano-clinoptilolite (NiO-NCP) was prepared by ion exchanging process of the prepared ball-mill nano-clinoptilolite particles with nickel(II) chloride aqueous solution. The prepared composite was characterized by XRD, UV-Vis DRS, TEM and FT-IR and then used as a catalyst in the photodegradation of cefuroxime (CF) using Hg lamp. The best experimental parameters were obtained as: 0.025 g L(-1) of the photocatalyst containing 13.3% NiO, 50 times diluted cefuroxime solution at pH 5. The degradation extent was monitored by UV-Vis spectroscopy and the results were confirmed by HPLC and COD. Seven complexes of a new dithiocarbamate ligand (ftpedtc = (furan-2-yl)methyl(2-(thiophen-2-yl)ethyl)dithiocarbamate) namely [Ni(ftpedtc)2] (1), [Ni(ftpedtc)(NCS)(PPh3)] (2), [Ni(ftpedtc)(PPh3)2]ClO4 (3), [Zn(ftpedtc)2] (4), [Zn(ftpedtc)2(py)] (5), [Zn(ftpedtc)2(1,10-phen)] (6) and [Zn(ftpedtc)2(2,2'-bipy] (7) have been prepared. The complexes were characterized by IR, UV-Vis and NMR ((1)H and (13)C) spectroscopy. Single crystal X-ray structural analysis was carried out for complexes 5 and [Zn(ftpedtc)Cl(1,10-phen)] (8). Electronic spectral studies suggest square planar geometry for nickel complexes. The (13)C NMR peaks of the group N(13)CS2 are found in all the cases, at around 205.0 ppm, which indicates the bidentate character of the dithiocarbamate ligand. X-ray structures of 5 and 8 show bidentate coordination by dithiocarbamate ligands and a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry for zinc, defined by NS4 and ClN2S2 donor sets, respectively. Complexes of nickel(II), and copper(II) were synthesized with pantadentate ligand i.e. 3,3'-thiodipropionicacid-bis(5-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thiol) (L). The ligand was synthesized by the condensation of thiodipropionic acid and 5-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thiol in 1:2 ratio, respectively. Synthesized ligand was characterized by elemental analysis, mass, (1)H NMR, IR, and molecular modeling. All the complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic moment, IR, electronic spectra, ESR, and molecular modeling. The newly synthesized complexes possessed general composition [M(L)X2] where M = Ni(II), Cu(II), L = pantadentate ligand and X = Cl(-), CH3COO(-). The IR spectral data indicated that the ligand behaved as a pantadentate ligand and coordinated to the metal ion through N2S3 donor atoms. The molar conductance value of Ni(II), and Cu(II) complexes in DMSO corresponded to their electrolytic behavior. On the basis of spectral study, octahedral and tetragonal geometry was assigned for Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes, respectively. A novel multi-metal nanocomposite, NiO⋅CeO2⋅ZnO has been prepared by co-precipitation of their carbonates from aqueous solutions of the metal nitrates following calcination and annealing 5 h at 450°C and 10 h at 950°C. NiO⋅CeO2⋅ZnO has been characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, IR and PL spectra. The crystallite size of the as-synthesized sample varies in the range of 14-23 nm and those of the annealed sample in the range of 17-50 nm. Emissions of NiO⋅CeO2⋅ZnO have been observed in UV (NBE emission) and visible region at different excitations. Excitation wavelength dependent PL behavior of NiO⋅CeO2⋅ZnO has been observed in acetone at room temperature. This PL property is in disagreement with Kasha's rule of excitation wavelength dependence of emission spectrum. New metal complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Pd(II) and Hg(II) with 2,3-butanedione isonicotinylhydrazone [BINH] have been prepared and investigated. Single crystal for BINH is grown and solved as orthorhombic with P 21 21 2 space group. The formula of the ligand was assigned based on the elemental analysis, mass spectra and conductivity measurements. The complexes assigned the formulae [M(BINH-H)Cl]⋅nH2O (MCo(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II); n=0 or 1); [Hg(BINH-H)(H2O)2Cl]; [Cd(BINH)Cl2]⋅2H2O and [Pd(BINH)Cl2]⋅H2O. All complexes are nonelectrolytes. BINH acts as a tridentate ligand in [M(BINH-H)Cl]⋅nH2O and [Hg(BINH-H)(H2O)2Cl] coordinating through COketonic, COamedic and CNhy and as a neutral bidentate through COketonic and CNhy in [Cd(BINH)Cl2]⋅2H2O and [Pd(BINH)Cl2]⋅H2O; the pyridine nitrogen has no rule in coordination. The data are supported by NMR ((1)H and (13)C) spectra. The magnetic moments and electronic spectra provide a tetrahedral structure for the Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes; square-planar for the Pd(II) complex and octahedral for the Hg(II) complex. The TGA of the complexes depicted the outer and inner water molecules as well as the final residue. The cobalt and cadmium complexes ended with the metal while the Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pd(II) complexes ended with complex species. [Hg(BINH-H)(H2O)2Cl] has no residue. The ligand is inactive against all tested organisms except for Bacillus thuringiensis. The Hg(II) complex is found more active than the other complexes. The flotation technique is found applicable for the separation of micro amount (10ppm) of Zr(4+) using 10ppm of BINH and 1×10(-5)molL(-1) of oleic acid at pH 6 with efficiency of 98% with no interferences., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier B.V. A new Salen-type bisoxime ligand, 2,2'-[ethylenedioxybis(nitrilomethylidyne)]dinaphthol (H2L) and its corresponding cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes, [{CoL(DMF)}2(OAC)2Co] and [{NiL(H2O)}2(OAc)2Ni]⋅2C2H5OH have been synthesized, and characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra, UV-vis spectra, TG-DTA and molar conductance measurements, etc. The X-ray crystal structure studies reveal that the cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes are symmetric trinuclear structures. β-Nickel hydroxide (β-Ni(OH)2) was successfully synthesized using precipitation method. The structure and property of the β-Ni(OH)2 were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform infra-red (FT-IR), Raman spectra and thermal gravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The results of the FTIR spectroscopy and TG-DTA studies indicate that the β-Ni(OH)2 contains water molecules and anions. The microstructural and composition studies have been performed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. A pasted-type electrode is prepared using β-Ni(OH)2 powder as the active material on a nickel sheet as a current collector. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies were performed to evaluate the electrochemical performance of the β-Ni(OH)2 electrode in 6M KOH electrolyte. CV curves showed a pair of strong redox peaks as a result of the Faradaic redox reactions of β-Ni(OH)2. The proton diffusion coefficient (D) for the present β-Ni(OH)2 electrode material is found to be 1.44×10(-12) cm(2) s(-1). The single crystal of guanidine carbonate doped nickel sulfate hexahydrate was grown from solution for ultraviolet filters. The single crystal XRD confirms that the grown single crystal belongs to the tetragonal system with the space group of P4₁2₁2. The crystallinity of the grown crystal was estimated by powder X-ray diffraction studies. The optical transmission and thermal stability of as-grown guanidine carbonate doped nickel sulfate single crystals have been studied. The optical transmission spectrum demonstrates the characteristics of ultraviolet filters. The TG/DTA studies confirm the thermal properties of grown crystals. Thermo-gravimetric analysis showed that the dehydration temperature of the guanidine carbonate doped nickel sulfate crystal is about 100 °C, which is much higher than that of pure nickel sulfate hexahydrate (NSH) crystals which is 72 °C. A series of diacetylmonoxime n-alkanoylhydrazones (H₂L(n), n=4, 5, 6, 12 and 16) were prepared by the condensation of diacetylmonoxime with the corresponding n-alkanoylhydrazine in ethanol. The X-ray crystal structure of diacetylmonoxime octadecanoyl hydrazone has been solved and its molecular and supramolecular structures have been discussed. Both neutral dinuclear Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes, [{M(L(n))}₂] (M=Cu, Ni and n=4, 5, 6, 12 and 16) as well as cationic dinuclear Cu(II) complexes, [Cu₂(L(n))(HL(n))]NO₃ (n=12 and 16) have been also prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, FD- and ESI-mass spectra as well as IR, UV-Vis, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR spectra. Chitosan (a biopolymer) anchored Cu(II) and Ni(II) Schiff base complexes, [M(OIAC)Cl2] (M: Cu/Ni and OIAC: ([2-oxo-1H-indol-3-ylidene]amino)chitosan) were electron beam irradiated by different doses (100 Gy, 1 kGy and 10 kGy). The electron beam has shown potential impact on biopolymer's support, in detail chain linking and chain scissoring, as evidenced by viscosity studies, FT-IR and X-ray diffraction spectroscopic techniques. Due to these structural changes, thermal properties of the complexes were found to be changed. The surface of these heterogeneous complexes was also effectually altered by electron beam. As a consequence, pores and holes were created as probed by SEM technique. The catalytic activity of both non-irradiated and irradiated complexes was investigated in the aerobic oxidation of cyclohexane using hydrogen peroxide oxidant. The catalytic ability of the complexes was enhanced significantly after irradiation as the result of surface changes. The reusability of the complexes was also greatly affected because of the structural variations in polymeric support. In terms of both better catalytic activity along with the reusability, 1 kGy is suggested as the best dose to attain adequate increase in catalytic activity and good reusability., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier B.V. Testosterone thiosemicarbazone, L and its nickel (II) complex 1 were synthesized and characterized by using FTIR, CHN, (1)H NMR, and X-ray crystallography. X-ray diffraction study confirmed the formation of L from condensation of testosterone and thiosemicarbazide. Mononuclear complex 1 is coordinated to two Schiff base ligands via two imine nitrogens and two tautomeric thiol sulfurs. The cytotoxicity of both compounds was investigated via MTT assay with cisplatin as positive reference standard. L is more potent towards androgen-dependent LNCaP (prostate) and HCT 116 (colon). On the other hand, complex 1, which is in a distorted square planar environment with L acting as a bidentate NS-donor ligand, is capable of inhibiting the growth of all the cancer cell lines tested, including PC-3 (prostate). It is noteworthy that both compounds are less toxic towards human colon cell CCD-18Co. The intrinsic DNA binding constant (Kb) of both compounds were evaluated via UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Both compounds showed Kb values which are comparable to the reported Kb value of typical classical intercalator such as ethidium bromide. The binding constant of the complex is almost double compared with ligand L. Both compounds were unable to inhibit the action topoisomerase I, which is the common target in cancer treatment (especially colon cancer). A new imidazole-based Schiff base, 2-((1H-imidazol-4-yl)methyleneamino)benzylalcohol (HL) and corresponding analogous bis(2-((1H-imidazol-4-yl)methyleneimino)benzylalcohol)metal(II) perchlorates (M: Co(1), Ni(2), Cu(3)) have prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, ESI-MS, IR, UV-Vis spectroscopies and conductivity measurements. X-ray single crystal structures of 1 and 2 have been also determined. Elemental analyses, spectroscopic and conductance data of 3 demonstrated similar structural features with these of crystallographically characterized complexes and based upon this relevances, HL ligands are neutrally coordinated to metal(II) ions in tridentate mode and all complexes are isostructural, dicathionic, contain perchlorate anions as complementary ions and, are in octahedral geometry with the formulae of [M(HL)2](ClO4)2 (for 3) and [M(HL)2](ClO4)2·H2O (for 1 and 2). Radical scavenging activities of the complexes have been evaluated by using DPPH, DMPD(+), and ABTS(+) assays. We report here the synthesis of three new nickel(II) complexes: [Ni(PzTA)2CO3]·5H2O (PzTA=2,4-diamino-6-(2'-pyrazin)-1,3,5-triazine) in 1, [NiQ(PyTA)(H2O)2]Cl·H2O (HQ=8-hydroxyquinoline, PyTA=2,4-diamino-6-(2'-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine) in 2, [NiQ(PzTA)(H2O)2]Cl·H2O in 3, and they were characterized by UV spectroscopy, elemental analysis, molar conductivity and X-ray single crystal diffraction. Binding of the complexes to ct-DNA was investigated with electronic spectroscopy, ethidium bromide displacement from DNA, viscometry and cyclic voltammetry. The results depicted the DNA binding mode of the three complexes was intercalation, and complex 1 together with external static-electricity. Moreover, the three complexes also presented potential anti-oxidant activity. Interestingly, we found 1 was sensitive to oxygen and to the polarity of nonaqueous solvents in fluorescence spectroscopy. Fluorescence of 2 and 3 is weak in neutral aqueous solvents, but is greatly enhanced by addition of ct-DNA. Thus, 2 and 3 can be used to DNA detection as DNA fluorescence probes with a LOD of 1.61 ng mL(-1), 4.90 ng mL(-1) for the relative wide linear range of 0.01-20 μg mL(-1), 0.02-30 μg mL(-1), respectively. Novel tetranuclear nickel(II) Schiff base complex having symmetric Ni4O4 cubane-core, [Ni4O2(OAc)2(L)2] (1) has been synthesized. Single crystal of the complex exhibits four nickel atoms in the alternate corner of the cubane and other four sites are occupied by phenolate-O and μ3-O(2-). Variable temperature magnetic moment data suggests the Ni centres are weakly antiferromagnetically coupled with J1=-4.82cm(-1) and J2=-4.83cm(-1). A novel trinuclear Ni(II) complex [{NiL(n-PrOH)(μ-OAc)}2Ni]·n-PrOH·H2O with an asymmetric Salamo-type ligand, 5-methoxy-4'-bromo-2,2'-[ethylenedioxybis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenol (H2L), has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra and molar conductance measurement. The crystal structure of the Ni(II) complex has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Two acetate groups coordinating to three Ni(II) ions through NiOCONi bridges and four μ-phenoxo oxygen atoms from two [NiL(n-PrOH)] units also coordinating to Ni(II) ions. In the Ni(II) complex, two n-propanol molecules are coordinated to the two terminal Ni(II) ions having slightly distorted octahedral coordination geometries and form a trinuclear structure, There are also one non-coordinated n-propanol and one non-coordinated water molecule. 2,2'-[(1E,2E)-hydrazine-1,2-diylidenedi(1E)eth-1-yl-1-ylidene]diphenol and its dimeric, binuclear Ni(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II) metal complexes were synthesized. Hydrazine derivative and its complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, LC-MS, IR, electronic spectra, (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra, conductivity and magnetic measurements. 1H and 13C shielding tensors for crystal structure were calculated with GIAO/DFT/B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) methods in CDCl3. The vibrational band assignments were performed at B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) theory level combined with scaled quantum mechanics force field (SQMFF) methodology. The antibacterial activities of synthesized compounds were studied against some Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by using the microdilution and disk diffusion method. The reaction between 2,5-hexanedione and salicylic acid hydrazide produced two compounds: 2,5-hexanedione bis(salicyloylhydrazone) [HDSH] (ethanol insoluble) and N-(2,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-2-hydroxybenzamide [DPH] (ethanol soluble). HDSH formed complexes with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II) and Pd(II) which are characterized by elemental analyses, spectra (IR, (1)H NMR, ESR and MS), thermal and magnetic measurements. The crystals of [Ni(HDSH-2H)(EtOH)(H2O)] and [Cu(HDSH-2H)] were solved having octahedral and square-planar geometries, respectively. The other complexes have the formulae [Co(HDSH-2H)(H2O)2], [Cu(HDSH-H)2], [Zn(HDSH-2H)(H2O)2], [Cd2(HDSH-4H)(H2O)4], [Cd2(HDSH-2H)(H2O)4Cl2]; [Hg(HDSH-2H)] and [Pd2(HDSH-4H)(H2O)4]. The obtained complexes are stable in air and non-hygroscopic. The magnetic moments and electronic spectra of the complexes provide different geometries. The ESR spectra support the mononuclear geometry for [Cu(HDSH-2H)] and [Cu(HDSH-H)2]. The thermal decomposition of the complexes revealed the coordinated waters as well as the end product which is in most cases the metal oxide. Planar (N-benzyl-N-furfuryldithiocarbamato-S,S')(thiocyanato-N)(triphenylphospine)nickel(II), [Ni(bfdtc)(NCS)(PPh3)], (1) was prepared from bis(N-benzyl-N-furfuryldithiocarbamato-S,S')nickel(II), [Ni(bfdtc)2], (2) and characterized by elemental analysis, cyclic voltammetry, electronic, IR and variable temperature (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra. For complex 1, the thioureide vCN value is shifted to higher wavenumber compared to 2 and N(13)CS2 carbon signal observed for 1 is additionally shielded compared to the parent complex 2, suggesting increased strength of the thioureide bond due to the presence of the π-accepting phosphine. In the room temperature (13)C NMR spectrum of 1, two pseudo doublets are observed in the aliphatic region. Variable temperature (13)C NMR spectral studies suggest that the fast thiocyanate exchange appears to be responsible for the appearance of pseudo doublets. Single crystal X-ray structural analysis of 1 and 2 confirm the presence of four coordinated nickel in a distorted square planar arrangement with the NiS2PN and NiS4 chromophores, respectively. The NiS bonds are symmetric in 2 (2.1914(14) and 2.2073(13)Å). But significant asymmetry in NiS bond distances was observed in 1 (2.2202(8)Å and 2.1841Å). This observation clearly supports the less effective trans effect of SCN(-) over PPh3. 4-Phenyl-1-(3-phenylallylidene)thiosemicarbazide (HL) and its metal complex of NiL2 have been synthesized. For them, elemental analysis, IR and X-ray single crystal diffraction have been carried out. In complex NiL2, the central Ni(2+) ion coordinates with two deprotonated ligands of L(-) and adopts a distorted square planar configuration with the Ni(2+) ion being located at the inversion center. The thermal analyses result shows that complex NiL2 undergoes two decomposition processes. For the title compounds, DFT calculations of the structures and natural population analysis (NPA) have been performed at B3LYP/LANL2DZ level of theory. The predicted geometric parameters are compared with the experimental values and they are supported each other. By using TD-DFT method, electron spectra of ligand HL and complex NiL2 have been predicted, which suggest the B3LYP/LANL2DZ method can approximately simulate the electron spectra for the system presented here. The NPA results indicate that, for ligand HL, the electronic absorption spectra are mainly assigned to n-π(∗) and π-π(∗) electron transitions, while for the complex NiL2, the electronic transitions are mainly derived from the contribution of an intra-ligand (IL) transition, a metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) transition and a d-d transition. A series of dinuclear nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes (1-6) of hexaaza macrocycles of 2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenol with three different benzoyl pendant-arms, 2,2'-benzoyliminodi(ethylamine) trihydrochloride (L), 2,2'-4-nitrobenzoyliminodi(ethylamine) trihydrochloride (L') and 2,2'-3,5-dinitrobenzoyliminodi(ethylamine) trihydrochloride (L″) have been synthesized and characterized by spectral methods. The electrochemical studies of these complexes depict two irreversible one electron reduction processes around E(1)pc=-0.62 to -0.76 V and E(2)pc=-1.21 to -1.31, and nickel(II) complexes (1-3) exhibit two irreversible one electron oxidation processes around E(1)pa=1.08 to 1.14 V and E(2)pa=1.71 to 1.74 V. The room temperature magnetic moment values (μeff, 1.52-1.54 BM) indicate the presence of an antiferromagnetic interaction in the binuclear copper(II) complexes (4-6) which is also observed from the broad ESR spectra with a g value of 2.14-2.15. The synthesized complexes (1-6) were screened for their antibacterial activity. The results of DNA interaction studies indicate that the dinuclear complexes can bind to calf thymus DNA by intercalative mode and display efficient cleavage of plasmid DNA. Further, the cytotoxic activity of complexes 2, 5 and 6 on human liver adenocarcinoma (HepG2) cell line has been examined. Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of 2-carboxybenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (L) were synthesized and investigated by their spectral and analytical data. These newly synthesized complexes have a composition of M(L)X(H2O)2 (where M=Ni(II), Cu(II) and X=Cl(-), NO3(-), CH3COO(-)) and (L) is the tridentate Schiff base ligand. The ligand and its complexes have been characterized on the basis of analytical, molar conductivity, magnetic susceptibility measurements, FT-IR, ESR, (1)H NMR and electronic spectral analysis. All the compounds were non-electrolytic in nature. On the basis of spectral studies an octahedral geometry has been assigned for Ni(II) and a tetragonal geometry for Cu(II) complexes. The ligand and its metal complexes were screened for their anticancer studies against human breast cancer cell lines MCF-7 and calculated minimum inhibitory concentration and also for antibacterial activity using Kirby-Bauer single disk susceptibility test., (Copyright © 2014. The chelation behavior of 9,10-dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dicarbonyl) bis (N-ethylhydrazine-1-carbothioamide) (H6ETS)(1) towards Co(2+), Ni(2+)and Cu(2+) have been studied. The spectral data revealed that the ligand acts as a bi- and/or mono-negative multi-dentate. The isolated Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes are square-planar while the Co(II) is tetrahedral. EPR spectrum of Cu(II) complex confirmed simulated an axial spin-Hamiltonian exhibiting a four-line pattern with nitrogen super-hyperfine couplings originating from imine hydrazinic nitrogen atoms and possess a significant amount of tetrahedral distortion leading to a pseudo-square-planar geometry with unpaired electron has d(x(2)-y(2)) ground state. Also, the thermal behavior and kinetic parameters were determined. A new unsymmetrical tridentate Schiff base ligand was derived from the 1:1M condensation of ortho-vanillin with 2-mercaptoethylamine. Nickel and palladium complexes were obtained by the reaction of the tridentate Schiff base ligand with nickel(II) acetate tetrahydrate and palladium(II) acetate in 2:1M ratio. In nickel and palladium complexes the ligand was coordinated to metals via the imine N and enolic O atoms. The S groups of Schiff bases were not coordinated to the metals and S-S coupling was occured. The complexes have been found to possess 1:2 Metal:Ligand stoichiometry and the molar conductance data revealed that the metal complexes were non-electrolytes. The complexes exhibited octahedral coordination geometry. The emission spectra of the ligand and its complexes were studied in methanol. Electrochemical properties of the ligand and its metal complexes were investigated in the CH3CN solvent at the 100 mV s(-1) scan rate. The ligand and metal complexes showed both reversible and quasi-reversible processes at this scan rate. The Schiff base and its complexes have been characterized by IR, (1)H NMR, UV/Vis, elemental analyses and conductometry. Experimental Raman and IR spectra of multiferroic [(CH3)2NH2][Ni(HCOO)3] were recorded at room temperature. The three-parameter hybrid B3LYP density functional method has been used with the 6-31G(d, p) basis set to derive the equilibrium geometry, atomic spin densities, vibrational wavenumbers, infrared intensities and Raman scattering activities. Based on these calculations, the assignment of the observed bands to the respective internal and lattice modes is proposed. The performed calculations revealed that the ν(NH2) stretching, ρ(NH2) rocking and τ(CH3) torsional modes are very sensitive to formation of the hydrogen bond between the DMA(+) cation and Ni-formate framework. Therefore, these modes are suitable probes for strength of hydrogen bonds in this family of metal-formate frameworks and study of their temperature dependence may provide significant information on a role of the hydrogen bonds in mechanism of the ferroelectric phase transition occurring in these compounds at low temperatures., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier B.V. In the present study, an attempt has been made for characterization and synthesis of pure and Ni-doped α-Fe2O3 (hematite) nanoparticles by chemical precipitation method. The synthesized products have been studied by X-ray diffraction (X-RD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The estimated average diameter of α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles were calculated by using the Debye-Scherrer equation and established as 31 nm. SEM micrographs showed the surface morphology as well as structures and particles distributions of synthesized samples. The UV-Vis DRS showed the indirect and direct band gap energies of pure and Ni-doped α-Fe2O3, these were reduced from 1.9847 to 1.52 eV and 2.0503 to 1.76 eV respectively. This result suggested the dopant enhanced the semiconducting behavior of iron oxide nanoparticles to an extent proportional to its nickel doped in the α-Fe2O3. Further, the magnetic properties of the pure and doped samples were investigated by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and evaluated the information of pure and doped samples exhibited saturated hysteresis loop at room temperature, which is indicating that the weak ferromagnetism in nature of our synthesized samples. In addition, it has been found from the magnetization hysteresis curves of Ni-doping, resulting from increased the saturation of magnetization and reduced the coercivity of used samples. NiSO4·7H2O (morenosite) and ZnSO4·7H2O (goslarite) are hydrogen bonded crystals having wide applications in various fields. In an attempt to understand the formation and properties of mixed crystals based on NiSO4·7H2O and ZnSO4·7H2O, we have grown by the free evaporation method at room temperature and characterized Ni(x)Zn(1-x)SO4·7H2O single crystals (with x having the values 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0). The grown crystals were characterized chemically and structurally by carrying out density, X-ray powder diffraction, and atomic absorption and Fourier transform infrared spectral measurements. The grown crystals exhibit good optical transparency in the wavelength range 210-1100 nm. The second harmonic generation measurements indicate a maximum efficiency for the mixed crystal with x = 0.5. Results of microhardness measurements follow the normal indentation size effect. Electrical (AC and DC) measurements indicate that the grown crystals exhibit a normal dielectric behavior and the electrical conduction is understood to be due to the protonic movement. The present study indicates that the mixed crystals with x = 0.2 and 0.5 are not only promising nonlinear optical materials but also useful as low dielectric constant materials., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier B.V. 1-Benzoyl-3-(4-methylpyridin-2-yl) thiourea ligand was coordinated with Ni(II) and Co(II) perchlorate salts to isolate complexes. All the prepared compounds are deliberately investigated by all possible spectral tools. A comparative study for IR spectra reveals the neutral bidentate coordinating nature of the ligand towards the two metal ions. The UV/Vis spectra of the complexes display d-d transition bands proposed an octahedral geometry for the complexes. MS analysis data are concerned especially with the base peak which is corresponding to C28H25N6O2S2 M ion. The fragmentation patterns are relatively matched with each others. Electrochemical studies were carried out using platinum wire and Ag/AgNO3 as counter and reference electrodes, respectively. The data reflect the irreversible nature of the electrode couple and showed two successive one electron transfer process. TiO2 nanoparticles doped with different weight percentages (4%, 8%, 12% and 16%) of nickel contents were prepared by a modified sol-gel method using Titanium tetra iso propoxide and nickel nitrate as precursors and 2-propanol as a solvent. X-ray diffraction studies show that the as prepared and annealed products show anatase structure with average particle sizes running between of 8 and 16 nm. FTIR results demonstrate the presence of strong chemical bonding at the interface of TiO2 nanoparticles. The optical properties of bare and doped samples were carried out using UV-DRS and photoluminescence measurements. The surface morphology and the element constitution of the nickel doped TiO2 nanoparticles were studied by scanning electron microscope attached with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer arrangement. The non linear optical properties of the products were confirmed by Kurtz second harmonic generation (SHG) test and the output power generated by the nanoparticle was compared with that of potassium di hydrogen phosphate (KDP)., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier B.V.
