Abstract

The conductivity and magnetoresistance in a magnetic field of 0.5 T were studied for the first time in fused samples of a La[sub 0.67]Ca[sub 0.33]MnO[sub 3-α] composition with variable oxygen nonstoichiometry (0.3 ≥ α ≥ 0) modified by exposure to H[sub 2], H[sub 2]O vapor, and high vacuum (10[sup -4] Pa). Abstract

The action of water vapor on nominally pure BaCeO[sub 3] perovskite at 850 K causes hydrogen to be incorporated into the lattice and a thermally metastable state to form. The lattice symmetry changes as a result of an orthorhombic-pseudocubic transition which takes place at a temperature substantially lower than the known thermally initiated rhombohedral-cubic transition at 1173 K.
