Acetophenones with a variety of substituents could be converted to diacylfuroxans in a solvent-free reaction by combining the reagents Fe(NO3)3·9H2O and P2O5 under high-speed ball milling. This reaction was facile and eco-friendly, and exhibits advantages in terms of better toleration, safety, and easier operation. The nitrate acid and nitrogen dioxide generated in situ should play a major role in this mechanochemical reaction.

A variety of deactivated arenes were nitrated to their corresponding nitro derivatives in excellent yields under high-speed ball milling condition using Fe(NO3)3·9H2O/P2O5 as nitrating reagent. A radical involved mechanism was proposed for this facial, eco-friendly, safe, and effective nitration reaction.

A variety of substituted diarylsulfones could be synthesized by simple arenes and 3CdSO4·xH2O in the presence of P2O5 under high-speed ball milling. It was suggest the aromatic sulfonation was performed by arene and in situ generated H2SO4, following-up by electrophilic substitution with another arene to give diarylsulfone.

A novel class of crown ether-bearing [60]fulleropyrrolidines containing a benzothiazolium styryl dye has been synthesized. The compounds have been characterized by FT-IR, NMR and mass spectra. The UV-vis absorption spectra of the compounds have also been studied.

Efficient syntheses of naphtho- and biaryl-fused 1,8-diaza-14-crown-4 macrocycles 4a, 4b, 7a , and 7b and related oligomeric systems 11 and 15 are described. An X-ray structure determination for the N,N -dicyanomethyl substituted macrocycle 8 is reported.
