Abstract

The energy efficiency and productivity impacts of embodied and unembodied technological developments is analysed using data from the different industries of the US, Canada and France. Six models, exhibiting alternatives of factor augmenting technical progress, for embodied and unembodied change are tested for the three countries and it is shown that the specification parameters are imprecisely estimated. It is also found out that embodied technical progress accounted for a very small portion of the total estimated technical progress in the three countries from 1965 to 1987.
