A study was conducted to investigate inbreeding depression in a population of Aster kantoensis, an endangered autotetraploidplant. The survivorship of the progeny and the number of flowering individuals per progeny array were analyzed. Results showed that the number of flowers per reproductive individual was greater in the outcrossed progeny after two years. Findings also indicated the need for more studies on seed migration to determine the population and genetic dynamics of A. kantoensis.

A study was conducted to analyze genetic recombinations between the k2 and Mdh1-n y20 loci in soybean in repulsion and coupling phases. A recombination rate was determined between the k2 and Mdh1-n y20 loci in several families with tan saddle seed coats. Results indicated an excess of the recombinants in repulsion phase that was correlated with breakage at the k2 Mdh1 Y20 chromosomal region. Findings also showed a minimized viability in the yellow follage plants resulting from cross combinations in both phases.

A study was conducted to analyze the stability of a unique multicolored flower trait in inbred and outcrossed soybean lines. The soybeans were grown under standard conditions while crosses between mutable lines were carried out in field plots. Results indicated that the colors of the soybean seed coat were produced by a pieiotropic effect on the wp/wp flower color genotype with the homozygous i/i genotype for seed color. Findings also showed that a number of loci segregated independently.

Genetic analysis of Collinsia seeds reveals the distinct inheritance profiles of the 11 Collinsia heterophylla variants that were studied. Chlorotic, tubular and yellow leaves, and virescent cotyledons are recessive monogenic traits, and two Pb loci alleles regulate the pubescence in the stem of the plants. Superflower and gynoecious monogenic characteristics account for the recessive floral ontogeny mutants, keelless and maroon.

The inheritance of the egusi seeds in watermelons is studied in crosses of normal seeded Charleston Gray and Calhoun Gray. Findings reveal that the egusi seed type is controlled by a single recessive gene.

Research has been conducted on seed color inheritance in Capsicum. The authors describe the study of this color inheritance by means of interspecific hybridization between the black seed color and yellow seed color, and the results demonstrate that the minimum number of effective genes involved in seed color inheritance is 3.
