A letter to the editor is presented in response to an article by Jonathan Coe about the state regulation of counselling and psychotherapy by the Health Professions Council (HPC) in Great Britain.

The author comments on the possible contribution of psychotherapy and counselling to the transformation of politics. Topics covered include the links between the internal life and political and social issues, the need to revise the notions of citizenship and the experience of recalling the emotional, fantasy and physical responses to riots. Also mentioned is the potential of psychotherapists in contributing a view of human nature that speaks with authority about benevolence and altruism.

The article presents an interview with psychotherapist Andrew Samuels who uses a combination of Jungian, humanistic, and relational psychoanalytic approaches. When asked about giving his life a function, he answers that by feeling connected to his love ones, his inner self, and more-than-personal world. Samuels says that his friends and his wife are helping him. His greatest achievements are creating connections between therapy and politics, and co-founding Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility.

A letter to the editor is presented in which the authors mention that a rally and conference on "The future of counselling and psychotherapy," is to be held in London on December 2, 2012 to discuss issues facing counselling and psychotherapy professionals.
