The article considers the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks. A series of personal narratives are offered by persons who recall their experiences of the attacks including a photojournalist who survived the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings, the widow of one of the passengers of the United 93 flight which crashed in Pennsylvania when passengers fought terrorists for control of the airplane, members of the New York City Fire Department, and U.S. public officers including then Vice President Dick Cheney. Two essays on the significance of the attack are offered.
