Heath School in Essex, England has successfully followed its goals of re-integrating its emotionally and behaviorally disturbed students into mainstream schools. Deputy head Alan Turnbull initiated the policy in 1991 when he found that the children were only being made to pass their time without learning to adjust to society. Turnbull adopted the national curriculum guidelines to enable heath students to keep pace with other children of their age. The school reports that 11 of its students have transferred to nearby Stanway School and that 50 others are attending lessons as part of the reintegration process.
