- Abstract
The goal of this paper is twofold: first, to provide an analysis of the potential of Information Visualization as a tool in discourse analysis research, and second, to express the need for greater integration within other approaches to language and knowledge comprehension. It is illustrated in this paper how the integration of content analysis techniques, Network Theory, Information Visualization and Corpus Linguistics contribute to detect certain patterns in the discursive configuration and interaction network of the characters in Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment. The visualizations (e.g., graphs and word clouds) not only prove to be an excellent (and necessary) tool for testing previous theoretical hypotheses made by Dostoevsky scholars, but they also demonstrate the extensive possibilities to reveal patterns and singular textual phenomena that serve to be the base for future empirical approaches to the study of linguistic data and literary text.
