The purpose of this study is the investigation of craniofacial structures by the help of frontal and lateral ce-phalometric radiograms in 13 adult individuals with congenital aural atresia. Frontal and lateral cephalometric measurements are evaluated using biostalistical methods. There are no significant findings except the decrease in Cg-Ag distance of anomalic side. There are no changes in craniofacial structures and mandible which bases from the same branchial arch with the external auditory canal. There aren't any similar findings about dentoalveoler charecteristics of congenital unilateral aural atresias and there is no corelalion between the craniofacial findings and the severity of anomaly.

Orthodontic implication of temporomandibuler joint dysfunction has been a concern of orthodontists in the recent years. As the orthodontist maintains the capability of restructuring the functioning occlusion, orthodontic application in TMJ instances are notably increased. In this case report two instances are presented who are treated orthodontically particularly through the implementation of the Progressive Extrusion Mechanics. Initial splint therapy and incidrental multiband mechanoterapy is proved to be an effective remedy in TMJ dysfunction cases.

Controlled retraction of canines is an essential biomechanical requirement for planned tooth movement. The PG canine retraction spring is a fairly new configuration of segmental arch mechanics that is faciliated in edgewise technique. In this case report, the PG canine retraction spring is utilized in the retraction of upper and lower canines in two instances. The clinical management of the PG spring is determined to be highly precise yet effective in the closure of extraction spaces providing bodily movement of the canines.

In patients with maxillary horizontal deficiency, maxillary collapse, nasal stenosis, arch length problem, temporomandibuler disorders and arch coordination prior to orthognathics the use of rapid maxillary expansion (RME) has become an accepted initial step in comprehensive orthodontic treatment. On the other hand, in adults where maxillary horizontal deficiency is present, the application of RME is controversial Generally, it has been widely believed that females 16 or older and males 19 or older with maxillary constriction require a surgical maxillary expansion or must be compromised with buccal flaring. However, there are views stating that if a % 5 closure is set as a limit for splitting the intermaxillary suture, this will not be reached in most patients younger than 25 years of age. Based on this opinion, in our clinic we attempt to split the midpalatal suture with non surgical means in adult patients. In this paper, four instances of adult rapid maxillary expansion is presented and significance of conservative RME approach in adult orthodontics is emphasized.

The purpose of the study was to find out the mechanisms that took part in the correction of deep-bite malocclusion of which bite opening is quite difficult and relapse is a common phenomenon. The study group was comprised of 24 female, 10 male subjects of whom 19 was rendered extraction and 15 non-extraction orthodontic treatment. The longitudinal research was carried out on lateral cephalograms which were taken prior to and subsequent to orthodontic treatment. The skeletal and dental measurements were obtained from cephalometric tracings and evaluated by Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney-U statistical analysis. In conclusion, it was determined that the correction of deep-bite was attained solely in the dentoaelveolar level and the position of lower incisor was crucial in this process. The result of the study pointed out the key role of lower incisor position in the treatment of deep-bite.

In the reestablishment of the impaired function and facial esthetics of the cleft lip and palate patients, orthodontic and maxillary orthopedic treatment has a determinant contribution within a multidisciplinary team approach. This philosophy of therapy is rendered in two time periods, a) Preoperative maxillary orthopedic treatment or infant orthopedics, b) Postoperative maxillary orthopedic and orthodontic treatment. Currently the benefits of early rnaxillary orthopedic treatment are still controversial The objective pursued here is to help establish a maxillary arch form as a fundamental base prior to the closure of the lip without the formation of the scar tissue. There is substantial evidence that the main factor restraining the development of the maxilla is not the early palatoplasty but failure of the lip construction. In the postoperative period, treatment is concentrated on the expansion of the collapsed rnaxillary arch and/or anterior maxillary growth stimulation via orthopedic force application. The intention of this paper is to present the pre and post operative treatment rationale of our clinic in CLP patients.

Y-plate or sagittal appliance has been widely used in our clinic in patients who portray maxillary arch deficiency associated with class III tendency in order to regain the required space particularly for the accomodation of upper cuspids. This study is carried out on initial and final cephalograms of 16 cases who were utilized with maxillary sagittal appliance. The skeletal, dental, and soft tissue profile cephalometric evaluation indicated statistically significant upper molar distalization and concurrent labialization of upper incisors.

The recent novelties in orthodontic materials and mechanics have enhanced the indication of non extraction treatment procedures as it not only provides a functional and stable occlusion but also is an easier treatment of choice in the eye of patients and parents. Furthermore, it substantially reduces treatment time in a majority of malocclusions. This article has demonstrated various non extraction instances and mechanics along with their clinical management.

The Delaire-Verton type face mask is an efficient extra-oral orthopedic appliance used in protraction of the maxilla. In our clinic, we use this orthopedic face mask in order to stimulate maxillary development, especially in cleft palate cases. The main purpose of this article is to introduce a practical and economical fabrication technique which we have developed by taking impressions from the individual. This technique consists of an extra oral appliance which is custommade for each patient and an easily applied anchorage system. We feel that these will make the treatment more tolerable for the patient.
