Biohydrogen production from marine macroalgal biomass by advanced pre-treatment strategies is considered a clean energy technology. The present study focuses on investigating the effects of sonication pre-treatment (SP) and saponin coupled sonic pre-treatment (SSP) on Ulva fasciata for enhancing the production of biohydrogen. The SP and SSP were optimized to improve the hydrolysis process during digestion. The optimized time and sonication power were found respectively as 30 min and 200 W. A high concentration of biopolymer release was noticed in SSP than SP at optimized conditions. The surfactant dosage in SSP was optimized at 0.0036 g/g TS. The effect of SSP process was assessed by estimation of COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and SCOD (Soluble Chemical Oxygen Demand) release. The study revealed that, at a specific energy of 36,000 KJ/Kg TS, the SCOD release was higher in SSP (1900 mg/L) than SP (1050 mg/L). The SSP process could improve the COD solubilization to 15 % more than the SP. Carbohydrate and protein release are also more in SSP than SP. The use of biosurfactants significantly reduced the energy utilization in the hydrolysis process. The SSP pre-treated Ulva fasciata biomass has yielded a higher biohydrogen of 91.7 mL/g COD which is higher compared to SP (40.5 mL/g COD) and Control (9 mL/g COD).

In this article, we studied the effect of acoustic cavitation on the physicochemical and organoleptic parameters, the microstructure of Adyghe cheese made from cow's and goat's milk, and their mixture. The experimental conditions, optimal modes of ultrasonic cavitation treatment of cow and goat milk, and their mixtures are determined. It was found that high-frequency acoustic cavitation improves the physico-chemical and organoleptic indicators of cheese. Ultrasound induced cavitation (acoustic cavitation) process is found useful in various applications. Scientists from various disciplines have been exploring the fundamental aspects of acoustic cavitation processes over several decades. It is well documented that extreme localised temperature and pressure conditions are generated when a cavitation bubble collapses. Several experimental techniques have also been developed to estimate cavitation bubble temperatures. Depending upon specific experimental conditions, light emission from cavitation bubbles is observed, referred to as sonoluminescence. Sonoluminescence studies have been used to develop a fundamental understanding of cavitation processes in single and multibubble systems. To acquire substantial electrochemical signals of guanine-GUA and adenine-ADE present in deoxyribonucleic acid-DNA, it is critical to investigate innovative electrode materials and their interfaces. In this study, gold-loaded boron-doped graphene quantum dots (Au@B-GQDs) interface was prepared via ultrasound-aided reduction method for monitoring GUA and ADE electrochemically. Transmission electron microscopy-TEM, Ultraviolet-Visible spectroscopy-UV-Vis, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy-XPS, cyclic voltammetry-CV, and differential pulse voltammetry-DPV were used to examine the microstructure of the fabricated interfaceand demonstrate its electrochemical characteristics. The sensor was constructed by depositing the as-prepared Au@B-GQDs as a thin layer on a glassy carbon-GC electrode by the drop-casting method and carried out the electrochemical studies. The resulting sensor exhibited a good response with a wide linear range (GUA = 0.5-20 μM, ADE = 0.1-20 μM), a low detection limit-LOD (GUA = 1.71 μM, ADE = 1.84 μM), excellent sensitivity (GUA = 0.0820 µAµM -1 , ADE = 0.1561 µAµM -1 ) and selectivity with common interferents results from biological matrixes. Furthermore, it seems to have prominentselectivity, reproducibility, repeatability, and long-lastingstability. The results demonstrate that the fabricated Au@B-GQDs/GC electrode is a simple and effective sensing platform for detecting GUA and ADE in neutral media at low potential as it exhibited prominent synergistic impact and outstanding electrocatalytic activity corresponding to individual AuNPs and B-GQDs modified electrodes., (Copyright © 2022 The Author(s). Glutathione (GSH) is the most abundant antioxidant in the majority of cells and tissues; and its use as a biomarker has been known for decades. In this study, a facile electrochemical method was developed for glutathione sensing using voltammetry and amperometry analyses. In this study, a novel glassy carbon electrode composed of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) embedded on amine-functionalized silica nanoparticles (SiNPs) was synthesized. GQDs embedded on amine-functionalized SiNPs were physical-chemically characterized by different techniques that included high resolution-transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), and Raman spectroscopy. The newly developed electrode exhibits a good response to glutathione with a wide linear range (0.5-7 µM) and a low detection limit (0.5 µM) with high sensitivity(2.64 µA µM -1 ). The fabricated GQDs-SiNPs/GC electrode shows highly attractive electrocatalytic activity towards glutathione detection in the neutral media at low potential due to a synergistic surface effect caused by the incorporation of GQDs over SiNPs. It leads to higher surface area and conductivity, improving electron transfer and promoting redox reactions. Besides, it provides outstanding selectivity, reproducibility, long-term stability, and can be used in the presence of interferences typically found in real sample analysis., (Copyright © 2021. To harvest the photon energy, a sequenceof perovskite-type oxides of LaCo x Fe 1-x O 3 (0 ≤x≤1) nanostructures with distinct 'Cobalt' doping at the position of B-site are successfully prepared via a simple ultrasonic approach as photocatalyst. The crystallinity, phase identification, microstructure, and morphology of perovskite nanocomposites were analyzed to better understand their physicochemical properties. The catalytic efficiency was assessedusing Congo Red (CR) dye by visible light irradiation for 30 min. Applying terephthalic acid as a probe molecule, the formation of hydroxyl radicals during the processes was investigated. The photocatalytic efficacy was measured by varying different Co/Fe stoichiometric molar ratios and noticed the order of sequence is 0.2 > 0.6 > 0.4 > 0.8 > 0.5 > 0 > 1 after 30 min of reaction time. Finally using LaCo 0.2 Fe 0.8 O 3 nanostructures, cycling studies (n = 3) were performed to determine its photostability and reusability. MgTi 2 O 5 (magnesium dititanate) nanoparticles were prepared by a simple hydrothermal assisted post-annealing method and characterized with various analytical techniques. The catalytic properties (sonocatalytic, photocatalytic and sonophotocatalytic activity) were evaluated using the degradation of triphenylmethane dyes (crystal violet, basic fuchsin, and acid fuchsin). The sonophotocatalytic activity of MgTi 2 O 5 nanoparticles towards crystal violet was found to be ~2.9 times higher than the photocatalytic activity and ~20 times higher than that of the sonocatalytic processes. In addition, the sonophotocatalytic efficiency of MgTi 2 O 5 nanoparticles was found to be remarkable for the degradation of basic fuchsin (cationic dye) and acid fuchsin (anionic dye). Acoustic cavitation and sonochemical reactions play a significant role in various applications of ultrasound. A number of dosimetry methods are in practice to quantify the amount of radicals generated by acoustic cavitation. In this study, hydroxyl radical (OH) yields measured by Weissler, Fricke and terephthalic acid dosimetry methods have been compared to evaluate the validities of these methods using a 490 kHz high frequency sonochemical reactor. The OH yields obtained after 5 min sonication at 490 kHz from Weissler and Fricke dosimetries were 200 µM and 289 µM, respectively. Whereas, the OH yield was found to be very low (8 µM) when terephthalic acid dosimetry was used under similar experimental conditions. While the results agree with those reported by Iida et al. (Microchem. J., 80 (2005) 159), further mechanistic details and interfering reactions have been discussed in this study. For example, the amount of OH determined by the Weissler and Fricke methods may have some uncertainty due to the formation of HO 2 in the presence of oxygen. In order to account for the major discrepancy observed with the terephthalic acid dosimetry method, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis was performed, where two additional products other than 2-hydroxy terephthalic acid were observed. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) analysis showed the formation of 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid as one of the by-products along with other unidentified by-products. Despite the formation of additional products consuming OH, the reason for a very low OH yield obtained by this dosimetry could not be justified, questioning the applicability of this method, which has been used to quantify OH yields generated not only by acoustic cavitation, but also by other processes such as γ-radiolysis. The creation of the modern world requires many industrial sectors, however, sustainability needs to be considered while developing industries. In particular, organic pollutants generated by many of these industries contaminate the environment leading to health and other issues. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have been introduced to remove organic pollutants present in wastewater. Sonolytic degradation of organic pollutants is considered as one of the AOPs, however, this process has its limitations. In order to overcome the limitations, hybrid techniques involving ultrasound and other AOPs have been developed. That is, ultrasound combined with heterogeneous AOPs (ultrasound/metal ions, ultrasound/metal oxides, and ultrasound/photocatalysis) and homogeneous AOPs (ultrasound/ozone, ultrasound/H 2 O 2 , and ultrasound/persulfate) for the degradation/mineralization of organic pollutants. Carbon-based systems have been discussed as prospective alternatives for conventional metal-based catalysts over the past decade. These studies were motivated by the abundance, low cost, lightweight and diversity of structural allotropes of carbon. We reported here the synthesis of a new type of unzipped multiwalled carbon nanotubes/titanium dioxide (UzMWCNT/TiO 2 ) nanocomposite by the two-stage procedure. By the modified Hummers method, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were converted to oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (O-MWCNT). Then, through a facile ultrasound-assisted route prepared UzMWCNT/TiO 2 nanocomposite. For this, the oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes are treated with TiCl 4 under an ultrasonic probe for 3 h to generate UzMWCNT/TiO 2 and then explored its environmental friendliness and energy applications as a supercapacitor. This novel UzMWCNT/TiO 2 nanocomposite was characterized using XRD, TGA, FT-IR, Raman, TEM and EDX analysis. The electrochemical performance can be evaluated by using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charging-discharging (GCD) study. Here in, we report a simple and facile method to synthesis morphology oriented transition metal (Nickel) doped polyaniline (Ni 2+ /PANI) by chemical oxidative polymerization with the assistance of ultrasonic irradiation. Physicochemical property of the materials examined through XRD and FT-IR. The morphological feature exposed that the sonochemical assisted Ni 2+ doped PANI is differing from the conventional method and it reveals a notable electrochemical property as in the form of specific capacitance (370 F g -1 at 0.5 A g -1 ) with improved rate capability and sustained cycling performance due to its typical interconnected nano-fibrillar morphology than the other synthesized materials. Cu 2 O@TiO 2 heterojunction nanocomposites were prepared via ultrasonic method towards the removal of the environmental pollutant of MO by the visible light photocatalytic approach. The structure of prepared Cu 2 O@TiO 2 heterojunction nanocomposites was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, photoluminescence spectroscopy, UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy, diffused reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic degradation ability was tested using methyl orange as a model pollutant. From the observed pseudo-first order reaction, it was clear that Cu 2 O@TiO 2 nanocomposites showed enhanced photocatalytic activity (rate = 0.223 s -1 ). The formation of demethylated methyl orange as an intermediate was identified from HPLC analysis at a retention time of 3.47 min. When doped with Cu 2 O, the TiO 2 preserved the integrity of its structural, revealing the morphology there is no significant changes have been made, favoring photoelectrochemical appliances. In presence of illumination, the photocurrent of Cu 2 O@TiO 2 was 4.5 folds greater than that of TiO 2 , involving that incorporating with Cu 2 O extensively enhanced mobility of electron via reducing the recombination rate of electron-hole pairs., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier B.V. The effect of ultrasound on the increase of hydration properties of pork proteins was found positive. N/Ti 3+ co-doping multiphasic TiO 2 /BiOBr heterojunctions (NT-TBx) were prepared by one-step in situ hydrothermal processes. The crystal phase, morphology, component, and optical properties of the heterojunctions were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy techniques, respectively. The as-prepared samples exhibit better sonocatalytic activity for the degradation methylene blue, Rhodamine B, and p-Nitrophenol aqueous solution compared with pristine TiO 2 and N/Ti 3+ co-doping multiphasic TiO 2 . Especially, the highest degradation ratio of methylene blue was achieved for NT-TB 0.3 up to 98.2% after 50 min under ultrasonic irradiation. The high sonocatalytic activity has been kept after four cycles with the tiny decline, indicating the excellent stability of the as-prepared samples. The improvement of sonocatalytic activity could be attributed to the formation of doping level and multiphasic TiO 2 /BiOBr heterojunctions, which account for the absorption of long wavelength light and the electron-hole pair separation, respectively. Furthermore, superoxide radical (O 2 - ) was demonstrated to be the main reactive species for the degradation of methylene blue under ultrasonic irradiation. This study provides a facile fabrication procedure for N/Ti 3+ co-doping multiphasic TiO 2 /BiOBr heterojunctions and demonstrates an efficient route to promote the application of TiO 2 in addressing environment-related issues., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier B.V. In this work, a simple sonochemical route was followed to synthesize cobalt stannate (Co 2 SnO 4 ) nanocubes using stannous and cobalt chlorides as the precursors in alkaline medium at room temperature. The structure, composition and surface morphology of synthesized Co 2 SnO 4 nanocubes have been characterized by using X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) indicates that the Co 2 SnO 4 nanocubes are crystalline, single-phase without any impurity phase; the sizes of nanocubes are ∼100 nm. The cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge cycling test, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements are carried out for the Co 2 SnO 4 nanocubes shows a specific capacitance 237 F g -1 at 0.5 mA cm -2 current density and in 1 M Na 2 SO 4 electrolyte. Co 2 SnO 4 nanocubes exhibit long cycling life with 80% retention of initial capacitance after 2000 cycles and the excellent rate capability at 15 mA cm -2 as much as 70% of that at 0.5 mA cm -2 suggest its potential use for supercapacitor applications., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier B.V. In this present study, a facile and green method to synthesize highly stable Fe 3 O 4 -guar gum nanocomposite using ultrasound was reported. Thermal gravimetric analysis, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to characterize the crystal structure, size and morphology, elemental composition, metal-metal and metal-oxygen bonds of the synthesized nanocomposites. Fe 3 O 4 -guar gum nanocomposite with a size of ∼48nm was obtained as from TEM. The physicochemical characterization supports the feasibility of guar gum as an efficient stabilizing agent for the formation of nanocomposite; guar gum acts as a capping agent with a zeta potential value of -34.8 which was found to be beneficial for achieving lower particle size. Guar gum serves as a matrix for both reduction and stabilization of nanocomposite. The HR-TEM and XPS shows that Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles are encapsulated by the guar gum polymeric networks or Fe 3 O 4 -guar gum core-shell structure. The guar gum encapsulated magnetite nanocomposite has performed better in terms of catalytic activity for the liquid phase reduction of p-nitroaniline. The simple catalytic reduction of p-nitroaniline showed an efficiency of 47% and further exceptional improvement of up to 98% reduction within 60min with the addition of sodium borohydride was achieved. The sonochemical synthesis of Fe 3 O 4 -guar gum nanocomposite does not require stringent experimental conditions or any toxic agents, and thus, a straightforward, rapid, efficient and green method for the fabrication of highly active catalysts for treating environmental pollutants., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier B.V. Developed here an eco-friendly, one-pot approach toward rapid synthesis of silver nanoparticles anchored reduced graphene oxide (AgNPs (TMSPED) -rGO) nanosheets via sonochemical irradiation method, using an aqueous solution mixture of GO and AgNO 3 in the presence of N-[3(trimethoxysilyl)propyl] ethylenediamine (TMSPED) without any reducing agent. As synthesized decorated nanosheets was thoroughly characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Pristine AgNPs (TMSPED) , pristine rGO (TMSPED) and as prepared AgNPs (TMSPED) -rGO materials were employed to modify the glassy carbon (GC) electrode and demonstrated its excellent electrocatalytic activities towards glutathione (GSH). Voltammetry and amperometry measurements were utilized to assess the electrochemical properties towards the glutathione detection. When the Ag nanoparticles were anchored onto the rGO surface, the observed results illustrated that the electrocatalytic properties of rGO might be enhanced. The resulting sensor exhibits excellent repeatability and long-term stability. Furthermore, AgNPs (TMSPED) -rGO/GC electrode able to be employed for the selective determination of GSH in amperometric analysis in the presence of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), uric acid (UA) and glucose. The ultrasonic formation of stable emulsions of a bioactive material, black seed oil, in skim milk was investigated. The incorporation of 7% of black seed oil in pasteurised homogenized skim milk (PHSM) using 20kHz high intensity ultrasound was successfully achieved. The effect of sonication time and acoustic power on the emulsion stability was studied. A minimum process time of 8min at an applied acoustic power of 100W was sufficient to produce emulsion droplets stable for at least 8days upon storage at 4±2°C, which was confirmed through creaming stability, particle size, rheology and color analysis. Partially denatured whey proteins may provide stability to the emulsion droplets and in addition to the cavitation effects of ultrasound are responsible for the production of smaller sized emulsion droplets., (Copyright © 2016 Elsevier B.V. Porous NiTiO 3 nanorods were synthesized through the sonochemical route followed by calcination at various temperature conditions. Surface morphology of the samples was tuned by varying the heat treatment temperature from 100 to 600°C. The synthesized NiTiO 3 nanorods were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, diffused reflectance spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analyses. The characterization studies revealed that the NiTiO 3 nanomaterial was tuned to porous and perfectly rod shaped structure during the heat treatment at 600°C. The porous NiTiO 3 nanorods showed visible optical response and thus can be utilized in the photocatalytic degradation of ceftiofur sodium (CFS) under direct sunlight. The photoluminescence intensity of the porous NiTiO 3 nanorods formed while heating at 600°C was lower than that of the as-synthesized NiTiO 3 sample owing to the photogenerated electrons delocalization along the one dimensional nanorods and this delocalization resulted in the reduction of the electron-hole recombination rate. The photocatalytic degradation of ceftiofur sodium (CFS) was carried out using NiTiO 3 nanorods under the direct sunlight irradiation and their intermediate products were analysed through HPLC to deduce the possible degradation mechanism. The porous NiTiO 3 nanorods exhibited an excellent photocatalytic activity towards the CFS degradation and further, the photocatalytic activity was increased by the addition of peroxomonosulfate owing to the simultaneous generation of both OH and SO 4 - ., (Copyright © 2016 Elsevier B.V. The work explores the experimental and theoretical aspects of emulsification capability of ultrasound to deliver stable emulsions of sunflower oil in water and meat sausages. In order to determine optimal parameters for direct ultrasonic emulsification of food emulsions, a model was developed based on the stability of emulsion droplets in acoustic cavitation field. A facile one-step sonochemical synthesis of Cu2O nanocubes has been developed by ultrasound irradiation of copper sulfate in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone and ascorbic acid at pH 11. During sonication, the reaction between acoustic cavitation-generated radicals and CuSO4 produced Cu(OH)2 intermediate which then reacted with ascorbic acid to generate Cu2O nanocubes. Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and Vulcan carbon (VC) decorated with SnO2 nanoparticles were synthesized using a facile and versatile sonochemical procedure. The as-prepared nanocomposites were characterized by means of transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infra red spectroscopy. It was evidenced that SnO2 nanoparticles were uniformly distributed on both carbon surfaces, tightly decorating the MWCNTs and VC. The electrochemical performance of the nanocomposites was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge/discharge cycling. The as-synthesized SnO2/MWCNTs nanocomposites show a higher capacity than the SnO2/VC nanocomposites. Concretely, the SnO2/MWCNTs electrodes exhibit a specific capacitance of 133.33 F g(-1), whereas SnO2/VC electrodes exhibit a specific capacitance of 112.14 F g(-1) measured at 0.5 mA cm(-2) in 1 M Na2SO4., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier B.V. A sonochemical approach was employed to prepare Vulcan carbon XC-72R supported by Sn nanoparticles at room temperature in the presence of ethylene glycol. The reduction of metallic Sn ion and ethylene glycol takes place and in turn the glycolate ion as formed acts as a stabilizing agent. Transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy have illustrated that the metallic Sn nanoparticles are successfully embedded on the carbon. In this study, manganese oxide (MnO2) nanoparticles were synthesized by sonochemical reduction of KMnO4 using polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a reducing agent as well as structure directing agent under room temperature in short duration of time and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. A supercapacitor device constructed using the ultrasonically-synthesized MnO2 nanoparticles showed maximum specific capacitance (SC) of 282Fg(-1) in the presence of 1M Ca(NO3)2 as an electrolyte at a current density of 0.5mAcm(-2) in the potential range from 0.0 to 1.0V and about 78% of specific capacitance was retained even after 1000 cycles indicating its high electrochemical stability., (Copyright © 2013 Elsevier B.V. Through an ultrasound assisted method, TiO2/WO3 nanoparticles were synthesized at room temperature. The XRD pattern of as-prepared TiO2/WO3 nanoparticles matches well with that of pure monoclinic WO3 and rutile TiO2 nanoparticles. TEM images show that the prepared TiO2/WO3 nanoparticles consist of mixed square and hexagonal shape particles about 8-12nm in diameter. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2/WO3 nanoparticles was tested for the degradation of a wastewater containing methylene blue (MB) under visible light illumination. An attempt has been made to render the visible light driven photocatalytic activity to the TiO2 nanocatalysts by loading 1 wt% of rare earth (RE) nanoclusters (Gd(3+), Nd(3+) and Y(3+)) using a low frequency (42 kHz) producing commercial sonicator. The STEM-HAADF analysis confirms that the RE nanoclusters were residing at the surface of the TiO2. Transmission electron microscopic (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses confirm that the loading of RE nanoclusters cannot make any significant changes in the crystal structure of TiO2. However, the optical properties of the resulted nanocatalysts were significantly modified and the nanocatalysts were employed to study the sonocatalytic, photocatalytic and sonophotocatalytic decolorization as well as mineralization of Acid Blue 113 (AB113). Among the experimented nanocatalysts maximum degradation of AB113 was achieved in the presence Y(3+)-TiO2 nanocatalysts. The decolorization of AB113 in the presence and absence of Y(3+) loaded TiO2 ensues the following order sonolysis

TiO2-WO3 heterostructures were synthesized at room temperature, ambient pressure, and short reaction time via a sonochemical approach. TEM and EDX images show that the prepared TiO2-WO3 heterostructures consist of globular agglomerates (∼250 nm in diameter) composed of very small (<5 nm) dense particles (WO3) dispersed inside the globules. The observed less intense monoclinic WO3 diffraction peak (around 2θ=22° belonging to (001) plane) and the high intense hexagonal WO3 diffraction peak (around 2θ=28° belonging to (200) plane) in XRD indicate that there may be phase transition occurring due to the formation of intimate bond between TiO2 and WO3. In addition, the formation of such new phase was also observed from Raman spectra with a new peak at 955 cm(-1), which is due to the symmetric stretching of W=O terminal. The catalytic activity of TiO2-WO3 heterostructures was tested for the degradation of wastewater pollutant containing Tergitol (NP-9) by a process combined with ozonation and it showed two-fold degradation rate compared with ozone process alone., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier B.V. This paper describes a highly efficient and rapid approach of synthesizing different CuO nanostructures in aqueous solutions using ultrasound irradiation of copper(II) acetate with urea/sodium hydroxide in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), as stabilizing polymer. Field emission scanning electron microscope images clearly indicate the formation of CuO quasi-spherical microarchitectures and long-straw like structure in the presence of urea and sodium hydroxide. Other characterization techniques such as TEM, XRD and XPS are also provided to support the formation of such structures. One of the reasons for the formation of such CuO nanostructures may be due to the formation of a polymer-metal complex with the stabilizing polymer (PVP)., (Copyright © 2011 Elsevier B.V. Au-TiO2 photocatalysts were sonochemically prepared by three different procedures and their photocatalytic and sonophotocatalytic efficiencies were evaluated by studying the degradation of a representative organic pollutant, nonylphenol ethoxylate (NPE) surfactant in aqueous solutions. In the first procedure, Au-TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared by depositing sonochemically synthesized gold nanoparticles on Degussa P25 TiO2 by stirring in the absence of an ultrasonic field. In the second procedure, Au nanoparticles were sonochemically synthesized and simultaneously deposited on Degussa P25 TiO2 particles. In the third procedure, Au-TiO2 nanoparticles were sonochemically synthesized by the simultaneous irradiation of an aqueous solution containing AuCl4- and titanium tetraisopropoxide. The prepared nanoparticles were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The catalytic activities of these nanomaterials were compared for the degradation of a polydisperse nonylphenol ethoxylate, Teric GN9 by photocatalysis and sonophotocatalysis under visible light/high frequency ultrasound irradiation. The catalysts did not show a synergetic effect towards the sonophotocatalytic degradation of Teric GN9. This might be due to the interference of the degradation products generated during the simultaneous irradiation by light and ultrasound.
