RENEWABLE energy sources - Abstract
Europe and many world regions are taking climate and environmental concerns seriously, and are increasing the shares of variable renewable energy resources in the electricity generation portfolio. Digging deeper, we can distinguish time-series econometrics, spatial econometrics and statistical clustering methods on the one hand, and deterministic numerical modelling as well as stochastic simulation of energy systems on the other hand. A new method for aggregating time series is proposed which essentially consists of constructing new time series that are approximations of the original series but with fewer time slices. The construction secures that certain characteristics of the original time series (such as the minimum, maximum and average values, differences between consecutive time slices) are maintained in the aggregated time series.
