The article explores the hip-hop culture in the U.S. It was in the 1980s that hip-hop started in Bronx, New York and after a decade, it moved to the West Coast to gain more popularity. In the 2000s, southern Americans took the hip-hop culture by storm with rappers like Young Jeezy, Rick Ross and Ludacris and singers like T-Pain, The Dream and Usher. According to the author, the distinct characteristic of southern rap is that it is full of hyper-regional slang and the dominance of chants, grunts and shouts instead of the usual metaphor-heavy rhymes.

The article discusses the impact of the death of Osama bin Laden. According to the author, he cannot seem to understand the reason for joy of Americans after hearing about the death of bin Laden, but is glad that he is no longer a threat to the country. He adds that he was surprised to find out that the wounds of the September 11 attack was still so fresh, which may be the cause as to why Americans were not able to recognize the association of medievalist tyranny with the principles of the conflict.
