The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of polyherbal formulation (PHF) as an adjunct therapy in diarrhoeic neonatal cattle calves with reference to the clinical markers, hepatorenal biomarkers and hydro-electrolyte imbalance. We examined whether supplementation of PHF will leads to better resolution of clinical symptoms, improvement in hepatorenal biomarkers and hydroelectrolyte imbalance. Diarrhoeic calves<6-week age were randomly assigned into two groups. One (Group-II) was treated with intravenous fluid therapy along with ofloxacin-ornidazole antibiotic while other (Group-III) was treated with intravenous fluid therapy along with novel polyherbal formulation. Six healthy calves kept under identical condition taken as healthy control (Group-I) for comparative evaluation. Results imply better recovery in term of total clinical score; hepatorenal biomarkers and hydroelectolytic imbalance in group-III calves than group-II on day 5 post treatment. Current study was performed to evaluate the alteration in coagulation profile parameters and platelet indices in canine ehrlichiosis. A total of forty two dogs were included in this study of canine ehrlichiosis based on confirmed standard diagnostic test by blood smear examination and nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Significant decrease (Mean±SEM) in platelet count (0.48±0.01×105/μL) and plateletcrit (0.03±0.00%) while significant increase in APTT (23.79±0.26 sec) were recorded in diseased group as compared to healthy group. The findings of the study suggested that measurement of activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) provides an important clue for the detection of coagulopathies associated with clinical ehrlichiosis. Among the platelet index parameters mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width are not helpful for laboratory diagnosis of ehrlichiosis in dogs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Present study was carried out to access alteration in hematobiochemical parameters in dogs affected with canine monocytic ehrlichiosis. Forty two ehrlichiosis positive dogs, presented to TVCC, DUVASU, Mathura, were sampled for hematobiochemical parameters study. Haematology revealed significant (Mean±SE) decrease in Hb (5.57 ±0.54g/dl), PCV (22.97 ± 0.60%), TLC (5.12 ±0.32×103/μL), TEC (2.58 ± 0.12×106/μL), platelets (0.48 ±0.01×105/μL), lymphocytes (5.58 ± 0.30%) and significant increase in neutrophils (82.64 ±0.40%). Biochemical analysis revealed significant increase in ALT (79.95 ±0.48IU/L), AST (78.01 ± 1.91 IU/L), ALP (88.00 ±4.53IU/L) and BUN (42.16 ±1.13) while significant decrease in total protein, albumin and globulin in diseased group. Ultrasonography is an important non-invasive technique to find our abnormal findings (size, consistency and focal or generalized lesions) in visceral organs associated with various infectious and non-infectious diseases. Canine monocytic ehrlichiosis is one of the infectious, multisystemic disease of canines causing widespread pathological abnormalities in various body organs/tissue. Most common organs affected are liver, spleen and kidney which can be assess by the ultrasonographic technique in order to find out extent of damage and stage of disease progression. In present study, 30% of cases has been detected with hepatic enlargement with normoechoic and hypoechoic consistency in 53.33% and 46.67% of total cases respectively. Splenic USG detected spleenomegaly in 33.33% cases with hypoechoic and heteroechoic consistency in 26.67% and 6.67% cases respectively. Renal ultrasonography revealed loss of corticomedullary distinction in 10% cases with 23.33% cases showed hypoechoic consistency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study was performed in thirty dogs naturally infected with Ehrlichia canis. The confirmation of canine monocytic ehrlichiosis(CME) was done by nested PCR, and blood and serum samples of all the diseased and healthy dogs were analyzed. Complete blood count and serum biochemical analysis of diseased animals were done and results were compared with control group. Present study was carried out in 30 ehrlichia positive dogs to analyze the risk factors associated with ehrlichiosis in dogs. Study revealed that over all prevalence of CME was highest in summer season as compare to winter, higher in GSD breed and lowest in pug, saint Bernard and spitz, more in male as compare to female and in age wise prevalence maximum cases was found in above 12 months of age of dogs. For the study 71 cattle calves were screened for theileriosis on the basis of classical clinical symptoms of theileriosis in calves. All screened calves underwent for PCR analysis, which revealed positive result in 12 calves. Clinical data of theses 12 calves were recorded separately and serum and blood samples of these 12 calves were investigated for haematology, serum biochemistry and bovine specific cardiac biomarkers i.e. cardiac troponin I and CPK-MB. Conventional therapeutic management with buparvoquone, oxytetracycline, and vitamin and iron supplementation was done in these 12 theileriosis affected calves and revaluation was done in recovered calves (8) after 15 days to assess the treatment response in terms of clinical recovery, haematobiochemical parameters and cardiac health evaluation through cardiac biomarkers.
