The development and introduction into clinical practice of non-pharmacological methods for the prevention and treatment of arterial hypertension is a primary objective of modern physical therapy, especially as regards the neurotropic influences. This article was designed to report the results of the investigation into the hypotensive effect of transcerebral magnetic therapy obtained during the treatment of 60 patients presenting with arterial hypertension. The study included the comparative examination of two randomly formed groups containing 30 patients each. The patients of the main group received transcerebral magnetic therapy (to the frontal region) while those in the group of comparison were given magnetotherapy at the collar region. The study has demonstrated that transcerebral magnetic therapy given to the patients of the main group was a more efficient treatment than magnetotherapy at the collar region since it produced a more pronounced hypotensive effect irrespective of the initial hemodynamic type.

The present study included 94 patients presenting with bronchial asthma (BA) who underwent the controlled treatment during one year. The treatment consisted of basal anti-asthmatic therapy in combination with acupuncture reflexotherapy or a complex of non-invasive reflexotherapeutic methods (CNIRTM) designed to increase the effectiveness of correction of asthma, to improve the clinical status of the patients, to decrease by more than two-fold the frequency of unstable episodes of the disease showing the well-apparent seasonal dependence, and to diminish the consumption of pharmaceuticals (reduction of the mean daily dose of prednisolone by 31% and 37% in comparison with its 79% increase in the patients receiving the standard treatment). Moreover, it was shown that the achievement of clinical and preventive effect of the application of non-pharmacological methods may be associated with the activation of the mechanisms of adaptation to the stress factors (such as correction of the cortisol blood level and parameters of the immune status, etc.) and the increase of the patient's tolerance to their influence.

Clinical studies involving 67 patients with arterial hypertension (AH) have demonstrated that a single course of trans-auricular low-frequency electrical puncture produced a marked stress-relieving effect that was manifested as the decreased anxiety level, normalization of neurohumoral regulation of arterial pressure and central hemodynamics, improved tolerance of controlled psycho-emotional loading, beneficial effect on cerebral blood circulation, lipid and electrolyte metabolism. In addition, the proposed therapeutic modality resulted in substantial reduction of arterial pressure. Taken together, these observations give reason to consider it as a promising tool for the treatment of patients presenting with arterial hypertension.

This paper describes the method and results of application of the pulsed low-frequency electrostatic field (PLFESF) to the lower extremities of the patients who underwent surgical treatment for the correction of valgus deformation of the first toe. The efficiency of the method used in the early period of rehabilitative treatment was estimated at 93.3% compared with 96.7% in the patients who were managed by the same therapy in combination with polyoxdonium.

Amplipulse-magnetotherapy was used as monotherapy and in combined treatment of 110 patients with chronic nonspecific salpingo-oophoritis (CNSO). Clinical assessment shows that transcerebral amplipulse-megnetotherapy (TAMT) has a positive effects on the course of CNSO, reproductive system and psychoemotional status of the patients. The addition of physical and balneological factors to TAMT enhances and prolongs neurotropic, endocrine, analgetic and anti-inflammatory effects of TAMT.

Laser Doppler flowmetry discovered microcirculatory disorders in acne patients. Affected are arterioles as well as capillaries and venules. Combination of magnetotherapy with medication improves microcirculation in acne patients. More marked positive changes occurred in the microcirculatory system due to combined treatment compared to medication therapy only. Thus, laser Doppler flowmetry is a new, noninvasive method of assessing microcirculation in acne patients and can serve an objective criterion of treatment efficacy.

Cryotherapy was combined with interference currents in the treatment of 93 patients with mild and moderate hypertension. Compared to single use of these factors, their combination potentiates hypotensive effect, i.e. lowers systolic and diastolic pressure already after the first procedure, stabilizes it after 3-4 procedures.

75 clinical cases of acute impairment of cerebral circulation treated with sinusoidal modulated currents in combination with transcerebral magnetic field have been analysed. Functional and clinical findings indicate that the above combination is much more effective than magnetic field and sinusoidal modulated currents alone: 62% against 35% and 33%, respectively.

Among cardiovascular diseases registered in the Chernobyl wreckers neurocirculatory dystonia and hypertension occur most frequently. Combined treatment including electric sleep, iodinebromine baths, therapeutic exercise, massage relieves clinical symptoms, promotes positive rearrangement of hemodynamics, a decrease in myocardial hyperkinesis and vegetative dysfunction, an increase in cardiovascular reserves, correction of hypersympathicotonia and immune disorders.

44 boat-racing sportsmen entered the study which aimed at elucidation of electric sleep action on restoration of muscular performance and relief of psychoemotional stress. The electric sleep procedures were found to stimulate regeneration processes, improve cardiovascular function and myocardial contractility, normalise arterial and capillary tonicity, to potentiate muscular performance and aerobic power of the body.

The effects of physiotherapeutic factors such as electric sleep, sinusoidal modulated currents. UV radiation, interference currents, decimeter waves, laser radiation were studied in 600 sportsmen active in cyclic and acyclic sports. Recommended are both single and course procedures because the above factors are found to diminish immunodeficiency and to increase muscular performance in sportsmen.

A comparative study has been made of the effects which might be produced on body functions of athletes by electric sleep. The induction of the sleep was conducted using square electric pulses with 10 and 100 Hz frequencies. The latter frequency (8-10 sleep procedures) stimulated the examinees somatically and psychologically, whereas electrotherapeutic sleep procedures at 10 Hz displayed sedative effects and thus were indicated for overstrained sportsmen and in some diseases.

The function of humoral regulatory systems was studied in hypertensive patients. Relevant dysfunctions appeared related to hemodynamic types. In the hyperkinetic hemodynamic type the greatest benefit for pressor and depressor regulation was achieved with square-wave impulse 10 Hz currents under the orbital method, in the hypokinetic--with sinusoidal modulated currents at 100 Hz modulation frequency. 30 Hz sinusoidal modulated currents under orbital method are able to bring about a marked decrease in both pressor and depressor hormones levels in hypokinetic pattern of hemodynamics producing short-term hypotensive effects. Humoral action of low-frequency impulse electrotherapy depends on the current characteristics, frequency and site of exposure.

The study in 100 patients with stage II essential hypertension showed the validity of introduction of sinusoidal modulated currents into the technique of electric sleep. The results obtained served the basis for creation of the optimal therapeutic regime associated with a 94% response marked in hypertensive patients subjected to correction of systemic and cerebral hemodynamics.
