The article discusses the retirement of railroad boxcars and a subsequent shortage of boxcars along North American railroads as of mid-2015 and the shortage's potential negative impact upon the paper and lumber industries. According to the article, U.S. government regulations stipulate that boxcars must retire after 50 years of service. The article states that the number of in-service boxcars in North America declined by 41 percent between 2005 and 2015.
