Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in treatment of postpartum depression. Methods Pubmed database and Embase database were retrieved online in English, and China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI), China Biology Medicine disc (CBM), VIP database and Wanfang Data were retrieved in Chinese. Literature in recent 10 years relating to clinical randomized controlled trials of acupuncture in treatment of postpartum depression were collected, and Meta analysis was performed by adopting RevMan5.3. Results Fourteen articles were included in the study in total; it was shown from HAMD result that after combination, WMD=−1.27, 95%CI (−2.55, 0.01); according to Z-test, Z=1.95, P=0.05, and the difference in efficacy between treatment group and control group was statistically significant. It was shown from EPDS result that after combination, WMD=−0.53, 95%CI (−0.92, −0.03); according to Z-test, Z=2.08, P Conclusion Acupuncture treatment for postpartum depression is effective, but more clinical randomized controlled trials with high quality and large sample size are still needed to verify the result.

Objective To explore the effect of acupuncture combined with Chinese medicine on expression of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC), substance P (SP) and nerve nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in diabetic gastroparesis mice. Methods Eighty Kunming male mice were randomly divided into normal group (group A, 15 mice), diabetic gastroparesis model mice group (group B, 12 mice), acupuncture combined with Chinese medicine group (group C, 12 mice), Chinese medicine group (group D, 13 mice) and western medicine group (group E, 13 mice). The mice were intraperitoneally injected with steptozotocin and fed with high-fat diet-induced irregular except the normal group mice, that made mouse model of diabetic gastroparesis. And then, the ACM group were treated by acupuncture at the acupoints of Housanli ( ST 36) and Zhōngwan ( CV 12) combined with Chinese medicine, the CM group were only treated by Chinese medicine; the WM group were treated by domperidone and vitamin B 6. Numbers and expression of ICC, SP and nNOS were detected by immunohistochemical methods. Results After treatment, compared with normal group, ICC and SP indexes of model group were significantly reduced. Compared with model group, all indexes in ACM and CM groups were improved significantly (P 0.05), but expression of nNOS were increased markedly (P Conclusion Acupuncture combined with Chinese medicine have much better therapeutic effects for diabetic gastroparesis mice, which may be due to repairing ICC damage, upregulating the expression of SP and lowering the expression of nNOS.

Objective To observe the efficacy of treating tinnitus with electrical stimulation on acupoint in the distribution area of ear vagus nerve by combining with sound masking. Methods Sixty-three volunteers suffering from tinnitus were randomly divided into a treatment group (32 cases) and a control group (31 cases) according to envelope method. The treatment group was given the treatment with electrical stimulation on acupoint in the distribution area of ear vagus nerve by combining with sound masking while the control group was given the treatment by taking flunarizine hydrochloride capsules and oryzanol orally. The treatment for both groups lasted for eight weeks. The efficacy was evaluated before treatment, 4 weeks and 8 weeks following the treatment respectively according to “Tinnitus Handicap Inventory” and “Tinnitus Dysphoria Inventory”. Results It was revealed from the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory that the differences were not statistically significant by comparing the two groups after treatment for 4 weeks (χ2=1.981, P=0.16); After 8 weeks of the treatment, patients with mild tinnitus and severe tinnitus were significantly improved in the treatment group compared with those before treatment (χ2=25.01, P

Objective To explore the best therapeutic method in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis. Methods One hundred and twenty cases were randomized into a conventional acupuncture group [Yangbai ( GB 14), Sibai ( ST 2), Yingxiang ( LI 20), etc.], a Ranying ( ST 9) acupuncture group and an operation + acupuncture group [acupuncture at ST 9 as the main acupoint and the stellate ganglion block (SGB)], 40 cases in each one. The treatment was given once a day, 7 treatments made one session. After 3 sessions of treatment, the latency and the amplitude of the direct stimulation evoked potential of the facial nerve (ENoG) were compared before and after treatment in three groups, as well as R1 and R2 values of blink reflex (BR). The total clinical efficacy was assessed. Results The latency of ENoG was shortened and the amplitude was increased significantly in three groups. After treatment, ENoG latency was lower significantly in the operation + acupuncture group as compared with that in the conventional acupuncture group (P ST 9) acupuncture group, the amplitude of ENoG was increased as compared with those in the other two groups (all P ST 9) acupuncture group and the operation + acupuncture group before and after treatment were bigger than those in the conventional acupuncture group (all P ST 9) acupuncture group (P ST 9) acupuncture group and higher significantly than 65.0% (26/40) in the conventional acupuncture group (P Conclusion Compared with the conventional acupuncture, the efficacy on peripheral facial paralysis is much better in the Ranying ( ST 9) acupuncture group and the operation + acupuncture group. Moreover, the early reflex function of the damaged facial nerve is much better recovered in the operation + acupuncture group as compared with that in the Ranying ( ST 9) acupuncture group.

Objective To compare the difference in the clinical efficacy on the different frequency hearing damages for the patients with sudden deafness between the comprehensive therapy of electroacupuncture and western medicine and the simple western medicine comprehensive therapy. Methods Fifty-eight cases were randomized into an acupuncture plus medication group (28 cases, 32 damaged ears) and a western medicine group (30 cases, 34 damaged ears). In the acupuncture plus medication group, the comprehensive therapy of electroacupuncture and western medicine was used. The main points were Ěrmen ( TE 21), Tīnggōng ( SI 19), Tīnghui ( GB 2), Yifāng ( TE 17), etc. The western medicine therapy was the comprehensive treatment with vasodilators, the medicines for promoting nerve function and releasing inner ear edema and hyperbaric oxygen. In the western medicine group, the western medicine comprehensive therapy was adopted. 10-day treatment made one session. Two sessions of treatment were required. In 1 or 2 sessions of treatment, the efficacy was observed, the electric audiometry was evaluated. Additionally, the blood routine and liver and kidney functions were detected. Results The total effective rate was 50.0% (16/32) in the acupuncture + medication group and was 55.9% (19/34) in the western medicine group. The efficacies were similar between the two groups ( P >0.05). In 1 and 2 sessions of treatment, at 250 Hz, 500 Hz and 1 kHz, the electric audiometry values in either group were recovered significantly as compared with those before treatment (all P P P P >0.05). There were no abnormalities in the blood routine and liver and kidney function detections before and after treatment in either group. Conclusion Either the comprehensive therapy of electroacupuncture and western medicine or the simple western medicine comprehensive therapy is effective in the treatment of low frequency hearing damage of sudden deafness. Either of them has no effect on high frequency hearing damage. But for the middle frequency hearing damage, the efficacy of the comprehensive therapy of electroacupuncture and western medicine is superior to that of the simple western medicine comprehensive therapy.
