According to the author, out of 429 responses, 44 percent said that they read two to four books for pleasure every month, 23.76 percent said that they read seven or more books for pleasure every month, while 10.59 percent said that they read zero to one book per month. The article discusses findings of the author's survey of readers of adult graphic novels in the Octagone Library in Montreal, Quebec. The public library has 25,113 active users in 2002. The library has a total of 5,500 titles in its adult collection as of 2003. Fifty-nine percent of respondents stated that graphic novels are the main reason why they visit the library. Eleven percent of those who replied are male users aged 29 or younger. Nineteen percent of respondents stated that they read only manga.

The article discusses advantages and disadvantages of common young adult (YA) models of service in public libraries in the United States. A survey of service models showed that eleven percent of all public libraries had the specific YA specialist title which was related to the size of those libraries as measured by the number of patrons per week. According to the author, creating a nonfiction collection, one of the most significant aspects of a YA librarian’s job, helps meet their emotional, intellectual, and physical needs. Acknowledging what is popular, what is needed for school, and what practical reference materials are available can help individuals create a nonfiction collection. Furthermore, by taking the time to appraise nonfiction books, creating a special space for them and listening to YAs, will be helping these patrons to become healthy adults, able researchers, and lifelong library users.

The article focuses on the collection of Spanish comics in American libraries. Graphic novels and comic books have contributed in attracting young patrons to libraries. Comic books serve different types of readers, including reluctant and gifted and adult readers. Several institutions have implemented projects to improve their comic collections and develop programs that work with comics. These projects are "Comicteca de la Biblioteca Regional de Murcia," "Biblioteca Tecla" and "Entre Viñtas".

In this article the author discusses diversity in a library setting. It is noted that U.S. libraries have met the challenge of diversification by adding to their collections and by diversifying their staff and programs in response to the needs of library users. Diversity measures undertaken by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) are examined including an attempt to recruit more library personnel from diverse backgrounds, the establishment of the Diversity Taskforce, and the awarding of the YALSA Conference Scholarship.
