U ovom radu istražuje se veza između gospodarskog rasta i razvoja tržišta dionica u regiji GCC, a to je Vijeće za suradnju arapskih država Zaljeva, odnosno Saudijske Arabije, Bahreina, Ujedinjenih Arapskih Emirata, Omana, Kuvajta i Katara u razdoblju od 2000. do 2017. godine. Generalizirani linearni mješoviti model (GLMM) primjenjuje se kako bi se utvrdila povezanost i priroda odnosa. U usporedbi s konvencionalnim regresijskim modelima, GLMM pruža pouzdanije rezultate uzimajući u obzir podatke koji nedostaju i uklanja razlike specifične za pojedine zemlje. Ovim istraživanjem se potvrđuje značajna pozitivna povezanost između likvidnosti na burzi (SML) i realnog bruto domaćeg proizvoda (BDP) po stanovniku, kao i da je negativna povezanost između tržišne kapitalizacije (SMC) i BDP-a dugoročno beznačajna. Rezultati također ukazuju da su SML i SMC značajno i pozitivno povezani. Uzimajući u obzir da uspješne burze mogu povećati nacionalno bogatstvo, smanjiti preveliku ovisnost o nafti kao glavnom faktoru gospodarskog rasta, rezultati sugeriraju da bi kreatori politike u regiji trebali imati aktivniju ulogu u stimuliranju svojih tržišta dionica uključujući i globalnu integraciju., This paper attempts to test the relationship between economic growth and equity market development in GCC region which is the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, namely, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar over the period of 2000 and 2017. The Generalized Linear Mixed Model (GLMM) is adopted to find the nexus and the nature of the relationship. Compared to the conventional regression models, GLMM provides a more reliable conclusion accounting for the missing data and eliminate the country specific differences. The study finds a significant positive association between stock market liquidity (SML) and per capita real gross domestic product (GDP) but insignificant negative association between stock market capitalization (SMC) and GDP in the long run. The results also indicate that SML and SMC are significantly and positively correlated. Considering well-performing stock markets can enhance the nation’s wealth, reduce the over-dependence on oil as a major contributor to the economic growth, the results suggest that policy makers in the region ought to play more active role to stimulate their equity markets together with global integration.

U radu se analiziraju različite vrste inovativnog poduzetništva kao što su poduzetništvo novih proizvoda (NP), novih tehnologija (NT), visokih očekivanja rasta (HG) i prosječnih očekivanja rasta (AG) te njihov doprinos gospodarskom rastu kroz regije EU-a, koje se međusobno razlikuju u stupnju digitalizacije. Regije su stvorene primjenom klaster analize. Stupanj digitalizacije mjeren Indeksom digitalne ekonomije i društva bio je glavni kriterij za grupiranje. Hijerarhijski regresijski modeli s panel podacima za razdoblje 2010-2017 primijenjeni su s ciljem da se ispita utjecaj različitih vrsta inovativnog poduzetništva na gospodarski rast. Rezultati istraživanja potvrđuju razlike u doprinosu pojedinih vrsta poduzetništva gospodarskom rastu u regijama EU, kao i utjecaj digitalizacije na odnos poduzetništva i gospodarskog rasta. Poduzetništvo visokog rasta i poduzetništvo u razvoju novih tehnologija imaju najveći doprinos gospodarskom rastu u regijama koje karakterizira veći stupanj digitalizacije. S druge strane, prosječno očekivanje rasta poduzetništva i poduzetništvo s novim proizvodima imaju dominantnu ulogu u gospodarskom rastu u regijama s nižim razinama digitalizacije., The paper analyses the contribution of different types of innovative entrepreneurship: new products entrepreneurship (NP), new technology development entrepreneurship (NT), high growth expectation entrepreneurship (HG), and average growth expectation entrepreneurship (AG) to economic growth through the EU regions, which differ from each other on the degree of digitization. The regions were created by the application of cluster analysis. The clustering criterion was the level of digitization measured by the Digital Economy and Society Index. Hierarchical regression models were developed with purpose to investigate the effect of different types of innovative entrepreneurship on economic growth, on panel data for the period 2010-2017. The obtained results confirm differences in contribution of the certain types of entrepreneurship to economic growth in the EU regions, as well as, the influence of digitization on the relationship between entrepreneurship and economic growth. High growth expectation entrepreneurship and new technology development entrepreneurship have greatest contribution to economic growth in the regions characterized by a higher degree of digitization. On the other side, average growth expectation entrepreneurship and new products entrepreneurship have a dominant role in economic growth in the regions with lower levels of digitization.

Tradicionalna hipoteza životnog ciklusa vjeruje da starenje stanovništva ne samo da smanjuje razinu društvene štednje, već negativno utječe i na gospodarski rast. Međutim, čimbenik ljudskih kapitala može promijeniti mehanizam utjecaja na promjene strukture stanovništva. Ova studija pokušava se usredotočiti na specifičan čimbenik poboljšanja zdravih ljudskih kapitala (HHC), endogenim tretmanom stope plodnosti i stope preživljavanja, s obzirom na očekivanu starosnu dob racionalnog pojedinca, kako bi se, de facto, istražio njegov utjecaj na stopu štednje i gospodarski rast uz primjenu panel podataka među-provincija Kine od 1996. do 2012. godine u cilju provjere inherente logičke veze između brzog poboljšanja HHC-a i modela “visokog rasta s visokim uštedama”. Rezultati ovog istraživanja su sljedeći: poboljšanje HHC-a važan je čimbenik koji utječe na povećanje stope štednje i gospodarski rast Kine u odgovarajućem razdoblju. To znači da je poboljšanje HHC-a dovoljno da promijeni mehanizam makro-učinaka demografskih promjena, te stoga pruža ključna sredstva za dugoročnu regulaciju i kontrolu koja su izvan okvira natalitetne politike. Među njima značajnu pozornost zaslužuju promicanje javnog upravljanja zaštitom okoliša, poboljšanje sustava socijalne sigurnosti, jačanje individualnih očekivanja u svezi zdravlja i poticanje očekivanog obrasca starenja stanovništva uz postizanje povezanosti s ulaganjima u obrazovni ljudski kapital., The traditional life cycle hypothesis believes that the aging of population will not only drag down the level of social savings, but also adversely affect economic growth. However, the human capital factor may change the influence mechanism of population structure change. This study attempts to focus on a specific factor of improving healthy human capital (HHC), through endogenous treatment of fertility rate and survival rate, considering the aging expectation of rational man, to explore its effect de facto on savings rate and economic growth while using the inter-provincial panel data of China from 1996 to 2012 to verify the inherent logical relationship between the rapid improvement of HHC and the “high savings-high growth” model. The findings of this research are as follows: The improvement of HHC is an important factor to improve China’s savings rate and economic growth in corresponding period. It means that the improvement of HHC is enough to alter the mechanism of macro-impact of demographic changes, and therefore constitutes a crucial long-term regulation and control means outside the adjustment of birth policy. Among them, promoting public environmental governance, improving the social security system, strengthening individual expectations for health and driving the expected behavior of aging while achieving linkages with investment in educational human capital are worthy of attention.

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of terrorism on economic growth experienced worldwide. More precisely these terrorist incidents and its effects on economic growth in most countries are classified according to income groups. In this respect, we conduct a panel study (FE and RE models) to analyze the number of terrorist incidents in these countries and the data range from 2000 to 2015 covering a total of 115 countries. The result of the study is in line with other findings in the literature. Those terrorist attacks are causing a negative impact on the economic growth in most countries, particularly in low-income countries. Generally speaking, the findings show that low-income countries are affected about three times more than high-income countries as a result of these terrorist attacks., Cilj ovog istraživanja je ispitati učinke terorističkih aktivnosti diljem svijeta na ekonomski rast. Točnije, ovi teroristički napadi i njihovi učinci na gospodarski rast u većini zemalja klasificiraju se prema dohotku. U tom smislu, provodimo ispitivanje panela (FE i RE modeli) kako bismo analizirali broj terorističkih incidenata u tim zemljama i raspon podataka u periodu od 2000. do 2015. godine, a koji obuhvaća ukupno 115 zemalja. Rezultati istraživanja su u skladu s drugim nalazima u literaturi. Ti teroristički napadi uzrokuju negativan utjecaj na gospodarski rast u većini zemalja, posebice u zemljama s niskim prihodima. Općenito, rezultati pokazuju da su zemlje s niskim prihodima pogođene oko tri puta više od zemalja s visokim dohotkom kao rezultat tih terorističkih napada.

This paper positions the concept of regional competitiveness within theories concerning regional economic growth and stages of economic development. It examines the sources of regional competitiveness encompassing an analysis based on the particular stage of economic development that the nations within which regions are situated have reached. As a means to achieve this, the paper undertakes an empirical analysis of data stemming from the World Competitiveness Index of Regions, and identifies regional competitiveness as a dual concept that explains relative differences in rates of economic development across regions, as well as an understanding of the future economic growth trajectories of regions at a similar stage of economic development. As with endogenous growth and development theory, the notion of regional competitiveness presented here places knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurship at the forefront of conceptualisations of regional economic differentiation., U radu se postavlja koncept regionalne konkurentnosti unutar teorija o regionalnom gospodarskom rastu i fazama gospodarskog razvoja. Istražuju se izvori regionalne konkurentnosti obuhvaćajući analizu koja se temelji na određenom stupnju ekonomskog razvoja koji su narodi unutar pojedinih regija postigli. Da bi se to postiglo provodi se empirijska analiza podataka koji proizlaze iz Indeksa svjetske konkurentnosti regija i identificira se regionalna konkurentnost kao dualni koncept koji objašnjava relativne razlike u stopama gospodarskog razvoja diljem regija, kao i razumijevanje budućih putanja ekonomskog rasta regija koje su na sličnom stupnju ekonomskog razvoja. Kao i kod endogenog rasta i teorije razvoja, i u ovom radu prezentirani pojam regionalne konkurentnosti stavlja znanje, inovacije i poduzetništvo na čelo konceptualizacija regionalne ekonomske diferencijacije.
