The prepositions pose major problems during translation. The use of prepositions is often difficult to be translated exactly. The paper studies the English translation of prepositions of the Quran while highlighting the diverse implications that a solo proposition might have. Further, the study designed to identify the complications concerning prepositions, the study investigates the connotation of a preposition in constructing different shades of meaning. In specific, the study looks at the meaning of a specific preposition to achieve accuracy in the purified meaning upon the selection of a preposition from the source to the target language. The present study emphasizes the translation of the prepositions in general and those of the Holy Quran in particular. In doing so, the paper has looked into two of the translations of the Holy Quran: Marmaduke Pickthall and Mohammad Asad. The study has found that a proposition could be translated into one of five ways i.e.: either be translated literally or by an alternative preposition or swapped by a noun or by a verb or omitted. The study has also highlighted the role a verb plays in the kind of preposition to be utilized. Finally, the research has focused on the need to counsel the accessible analyses of the Holy Quran to decide the import of the refrain being referred to and the unique significance of the relational word utilized; and subsequently, select the suitable comparable to the recommendation to be interpreted.
