Sperber & Wilson (2005:468) see Pragmatics as is " the study of how contextual factors interact with linguistic meaning in the interpretation of utterances". Doctors often recognize patterns in people’s speech from their utterances. These patterns may affect the medical judgements. In general, this paper presents models for describing clinical contexts and illustrates them with analysis of medical interactions associated with developmental autism disorders. This paper attempts to examine Applied linguistic impairment through (The selected situations in the Season 1, Episode 2) of medical conversations in the TV series: "The Good Doctor" in which the main character is 'Dr. Murphy' who is an autistic resident doctor. The pragmatic impairment is spread in the world and there is difficult to identify exact nature of autism. This paper also endeavors to investigate the autism through its definition and scope to achieve the needs of the interactions between the interlocutors. Generally, interlocutor with autism is possibly to exhibit pragmatic troubles along with her/his interactions, but these troubles differ extremely from one person to another. (Cummings,2017:59). This paper also attempts to shed light the applied pragmatic strategies and devices that can be exploited in three stages: launching, maintaining, and terminating of clinical conversations in the case of autism.

This paper investigates the way pragmatics and corpus linguistics can benefit from each other through tackling metaphorical language. The metaphors of COVID-19 and how they can be analyzed both qualitatively and quantitively in the realm of corpus pragmatics analysis will be focused on. Significantly, the basic aim of the paper is to shed light on the very nature and use of metaphorical concepts, particularly their pragmatic functions. Moreover, the paper seeks to uncover the fundamental similarities between pragmatics as a linguistic discipline and metaphor as a linguistic tool, since both represent the essence of a hidden or implied meaning. Pragmatic theory views metaphor as a speech act. In other words, a speaker is using signs with a literal meaning to create a new intentional structure which has no literal meaning. To answer the research questions set by the paper, the study adopts a corpus pragmatic analysis in order to trace the recent spread of metaphorical language concerning COVID-19. The combination of pragmatics and corpus linguistics in this study led to the use of methodologies from both fields. Regarding metaphorical concepts, the corpus analysis proves that there is no one-to-one relation between form and function. The speech acts as well as the politeness strategies are in constant change in accordance with their context. Yet, the metaphors expressed are most frequently based on the choice of words and their accompanying referential meaning. Most notably, the ‘War Metaphors’ and the ‘Fire Metaphors’ have been particularly appropriate and versatile in reference to the pandemic and the process of combatting it. Therefore, this research also attempts to discuss the different types of metaphors used referring to the pandemic from a corpus pragmatics perspective

This paper is primarily concerned with analysing speech acts as a sequence manifested in Reagan’s First Inaugural Speech. It aims to analyse the whole five forms of speech acts pragmatically in identified political speech, as described by Searle, 1969 (assertive, directive, commissive, expressive and declarative). To this end, a mixed method research is used. Qualitative part is used to describe and analyse types of speech acts in the selected data using a proposed model of two theories. It merges the theory of speech acts of Searle (1969) and Ferrara's theory of speech acts within sequences (1980). The quantitative part analyses the frequencies and percentages of speech acts types. The findings indicated that the assertive speech act is most frequently used by president Reagan. Thus, the findings of the present study would help researchers who are concerned with the study of language particularly people engaged within specialization of pragmatics. In addition, the study might be a useful for EFL / ESL learners since it attempts to discover speech acts' types and subtypes.
