The study aims at investigating the role of social networks in meeting the needs of the Jordanian youth, and the differences between these needs, depending on some demographic and functional variables. The study relies on descriptive analytical method. The sample consisted of 286 individuals from Yarmouk University students, and to achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was designed consisting of five sections. Results were analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, and the study resulted in the following: * The ratio of the use of social networking among Jordanian youth increased by 93.7%. * Facebook is the first in the use of social networking with a ratio of 72.4% among the sample compared to other networks. * The use of social networking daily comes in the first place with a general ratio of 50.0% * The daily use of social networking for 1-2 hours among Jordanian youth was rated 38.1% * The general trend of the use of social networking among the youth is using it at home, as they use it there with a ratio of 86.4%. * There are five needs achieved by Jordanian university students by using social networking, and these needs in order of priority of use are: 1. The needs of knowledge/ information 2. Psychological/ emotional needs 3. Personal/ pragmatic needs 4. Social needs 5. Needs to escape from reality / fill the void. * There were no statistically significant differences between the needs achieved by Jordanian youth to use social networking related to gender (male/ female). * There were significant differences between cognitive needs, emotional needs, needs to escape from reality, and the needs combined achieved by Jordanian youth by using social networking related to the extent of use. * The differences in use between always and rarely are in favor of always, and between rarely and sometimes are in favor of sometimes at the level of cognitive needs, emotional needs, needs to escape from reality, and the needs combined.
