This study investigated the difficulties that Swahili-speaking students face when learning the topic of number in Arabic, namely topics of singular, dual, and plural, and what can be suggested to overcome them. The researcher used contrastive analysis, which compares the systems of the two languages to identify the similarities and differences between them toexplore the difficulties resulting from those differences and to suggest solutions to avoid them. The results revealed a few similarities, the most important of which is the presence of singular and plural in both languages. They also showed a number of differences, the most important of which are the presence of dual number as well as the multiplicity of the plural number in the Arabic language, as well as agreement between numbers and nouns in terms of masculine and feminine which don't exist in Swahili language. The researcher concluded that there may be possibility of students facing difficulties, including: the difficulty in correctly expressing the dual number, the problem of choosing the relevant type of plural when making plurals of some words, and the difficulty of taking into account the concept of masculine and feminine in expressing different numbers. It was proposed to multiply the examples and exercises, while diversifying them into subjectivity and essays. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
