In view of the global and long-term nature of the cause of environmental protection, the precautionary principle retains its topically, despite the fact that it was originally formulated about five decades ago. Like the majority of principles, this one too stands attractive but is also rather general. The article is an attempt at analysing specifically its practical realization following the example of the GMO environmental policy in the EU and Bulgaria, and their built-in aspects of effectiveness and justice.
