- Abstract
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is а relatively recently discovered and ubiquitous respiratory pathogen. Epidemiologic studies showed that HMPV is an important cause of upper and lower respiratory infection in people of all ages, especially in young children. It’s considered, that in mostly causes symptoms similar to the common cold. НMPV is associated with more severe course and hospitalization in high risk populations, mainly infants, people over 65 years, patients with chronic lung diseases and immunocompromised status. HMPV contributes significantly to cases bronchiolitis and pneumonia in childhood. HMPV antibodies detected in over 90% of children by 5-10 years of age. Тhe prevalence of HMPV has seasonal and geographical variations. Data of currently this review aim to raise awareness among clinicians about the impact of HMPV on respiratory morbidity among pediatric population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
