To investigate the sensitivity of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum to novel fungicide cyprodinil, 53 isolates of S. sclerotiorum were collected from different regions in Jiangsu province of China, and tested by employing mycelial growth rate method. Results revealed significant sensitivity difference to cyprodinil among 53 isolates with EC50 ranging from 0.034 2 to 1.087 6μg/mL. Then 10 isolates with different sensitivity to cyprodinil were used for cross - resistance tests to other fungicides with diverse action mechanisms. The fungicides included carbendazim, procymidone, iprodione, dimetachlone, tebuconazole and prochloraz. PURPOSE; To investigate the condition of four kinds of noncarious hard tissue lesions of the teeth in teachers of one university in Shanghai municipality and provide guidance about oral health care. METHODS: The table and the standard on oral health survey authorized by WHO were adopted, condition of four kinds of noncarious hard tissue lesions of teeth in 776 teachers of East China University of Science was investigated and analyzed using SPSS16.0 software package. RESULTS: The average wedge-shaped defect teeth was 5.54±3.87, the incidence was 30.41%, caries incidence of the first bicuspid was the highest (29.52%). The incidence of tetracycline pigmentation teeth was 3.09%, the incidence of enamel hypoplasia was 2.06%, and the incidence of dental fluorosis was 1.55%. CONCLUSIONS: The average wedge-shaped defect teeth is higher than the data over the country, the incidence of dental textural anomaly is lower. Different treatments of harvest residues will change the quantity and quality of soil organic matter, with direct or indirect effects on the composition and content of soil nutrient. Nitrogen is one of the most important soil nutrients. However, the response of soil organic nitrogen fractions to different harvest residue treatments is still unclear. In this study, harvest residue treatments, including harvest residue removed, residue retained and residue burnt, were set up after clear-cutting a 50-year-old mature Cunninghamia lanceolata forest in Sanming City, Fujian, China. The H 2 SO 4 hydrolysis method was used to determine soil organic nitrogen fractions and their driving factors in the 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm soil layers after 5 years of harvest residue treatments. The results showed that residue retained treatment significantly enhanced the contents of soil organic nitrogen and its liable fractions. In the 0-10 cm soil layer, soil organic nitrogen content under residue retained treatment (3.36 g·kg -1 ) was 1.5 and 1.3 times as those of residue removed and residue burnt treatments, respectively. Residue retained treatment had the highest contents of labile nitrogen Ⅰ and Ⅱ fractions. In 10-20 cm soil layer, the contents of soil organic nitrogen and labile nitrogen Ⅱ fraction were also significantly higher in residue retained treatment (2.20, 0.73 g·kg -1 ) than that in residue removed and residue burnt treatments. The labile nitrogen index Ⅱ in residue retained treatment (33.9%) was significantly higher than in residue burnt treatment (26.1%). The contents of total carbon, dissolved organic carbon, dissolved organic nitrogen, microbial biomass under residue retained treatment were the highest in both soil layers. Compared with residue removed treatment, residue retained treatment significantly enhanced the abundance of soil bacteria (Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria) in 0-10 cm soil layer. In 10-20 cm soil layer, residue retained treatment had the highest content of fungi and the lowest content of actinomycetes. Pearson analysis showed that there were significant positive correlations of labile fractions of soil organic nitrogen with total carbon, dissolved organic carbon, dissolved organic nitrogen, microbial biomass carbon, microbial biomass nitrogen, bacteria (Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria), and fungi, and negative correlations with actinomycetes. It was concluded that the retention of harvest residue was beneficial to increase the content of soil organic nitrogen and labile fractions, improve soil biochemical properties and had a positive effect on soil microbial community composition. Retention of harvest residue was an effective management measure to maintain soil fertility and improve forest productivity.

Forest harvesting changes the quantity and quality of organic matter inputs into soil, and thus would alter soil nutrient content and availability. Phosphorus (P) is a key element affecting plant growth. The effects of harvest residue treatments on soil P fractions and availability had not yet been evaluated. In this study, harvest residue retainment (RR), residue removal (R) and residue burning (RB) treatments were manipulated after clear-cutting in a mature Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) plantation at the Sanming Forest Ecosystem and Global Change Research Station in Fujian, China. This study focused on the dynamics of soil P fractions and their driving factors in the 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm soil layers after 4-year residue treatments. The results showed that, in RR treatment, the contents of easily-available P, moderately-available P and non-available P at the 0-10 cm soil layer were all significantly higher than those in R treatment, while the contents of moderately-available P and non-available P at the 10-20 cm soil layer was significantly higher than those in RB treatments. The ratios of soil organic carbon (C) to organic P (C:Po) in both layers were over 200 for all the three treatments, with ratios in RR treatment being significantly lower than those in RB and R treatments, indicating that RR could alleviate P limitation in this ecosystem. Moreover, results of the redundancy analysis showed that changes in P fractions were mainly affected by dissolved organic C, free Fe and noncrystalline amorphous Fe. The results suggested that soil organic P and available P were mainly from the decomposition of plant residues, which supported continuous P supply for plant growth. RR could enhance soil P content, thereby improve soil P availability and mitigate P limitation in Chinese fir plantation.

Residential area, usually consisting of buildings and vegetation, is one of the dominant land use types and an important kind of habitat in the urban area. Therefore, it plays an important role in urban biodiversity conservation. Previous studies found that plant diversity abroad in urban residential areas was influenced by socioeconomic factors. However, it is not clear whether this result hold for Chinese cities which have completely different urban management regime. In this study, we investigated plant species diversity in 39 residential neighborhoods in Shanghai. Biodiversity indexes, regression analysis, and partial least square regression analysis were employed to estimate the relationships between plant diversity and socioeconomic factors of population density, house price, house age and greenspace coverage. Our results showed that socioeconomic factors did affect plant diversity in urban residential areas in Shanghai. The effects varied with plant species, population density, house price, house age, and greenspace coverage. The house age had the strongest effect on most plant taxa, then followed by population density, house price, and greenspace coverage. We tested the hypotheses of "luxury effect" and "legacy effect", and found that they only partially explained the spatial distribution of plant taxa in Shanghai. These results could provide insights for management and conservation of plant diversity, as well as urban landscape planning and design in Shanghai.

Aeolian sandy soil was collected at depths of 0 to 100 cm at intervals of 0-10, > 10-20, > 20-30, > 30-40, > 40-60, > 60-80, and > 80-100 cm from under the cover of psammophilous shrubs Ammopiptanthus mongolicus, Hedysarum scoparium, Oxytropis aciphylla, Nitraria tangutorum and Haloxylon ammodendron and from a mobile dune in the Ulan Buh Desert. Multi-fractal theory was used to determine the soil particle size distribution (PSD), which measured the fractions of ω (Mn), ω (Zn), ω (Cr), ω (Cu), ω (Pb), ω (Ni), ω (As), and ω (Cd), as well as their distribution status in the laboratory and analyzed correlations between the PSD and heavy metal content to identify the relationship between soil structure and heavy metal pollution. This result shows that a range of different types of shrubs can increase the distribution of fine soil particles, and specifically Ammopiptanthus mongolicus and Hedysarum scoparium can increase range, heterogeneity and degree of dispersion of the PSD. The heavy metal content in the soil under the different shrubs is ranked as ω (Mn) > ω (Zn) > ω (Cr) > ω (Cu) > ω (Pb) > ω (Ni) > ω (As) > ω (Cd). In the first 10 cm of the soil under the shrubs, the concentration of all heavy metals are higher than samples from the mobile dune except for Cr and Cu. Average value of ω (Mn) and ω (Cd) is 354.899 and 1.429 mg·kg -1 under Ammopiptanthus mongolicus and Hedysarum scoparium respectively. Concentrations of Mn and Cd under Ammopiptanthus mongolicus and Hedysarum scoparium shrubs are significantly higher than those of mobile dune ( P <0.05), and the concentration of both is significantly various between each soil layers ( P <0.05). The highest value for ω (Mn) is in soil layer between 30 and 40 cm below the surface and the highest for ω (Cd) appears between 10 and 20 cm below the surface. The average ω (Pb) under Hedysarum scoparium is 13.556 mg·kg -1 which is the highest among all the shrubs, exceeding 3.24% under Ammopiptanthus mongolicus and higher than samples from mobile dune. However, average ω (As) under Hedysarum scoparium is exceeded 0.37% under Ammopiptanthus mongolicus but still higher than samples from mobile dune. The grain size of φ (silt) and φ (medium coarse sand) are determining factors for heavy metal concentrations in fine and coarse particles of aeolian sandy soil. Heavy metal measurements all positively correlate with φ (silt) and φ (clay), however, they negatively correlate with φ (medium coarse sand), except for ω (Cr). The correlation coefficients between heavy metal contents and the multifractal parameters are similar for φ (clay), φ (silt), and φ (medium coarse sand). Therefore, multifractal parameters can describe the correlation between heavy metals and their determinant soil grain size. This study shows that, Ammopiptanthus mongolicus and Hedysarum scoparium can entrap and deposit fine particles from the sand flow to surface soil layers around shrubs and improve the condition of PSDs for different soil layers with respect to heavy metals. Hence, in aeolian sandy soil these concentrations are higher than for mobile dunes after planting Ammopiptanthus mongolicus and Hedysarum scoparium . Therefore both should be used to promote good soil structure of particular areas to entrap and in-situ control heavy metals to decrease heavy metal pollution in downwind cities.

Purpose: To compare the detection rate of HBV antigens in different samples, and to explore the significance of saliva transmission in the spread of HBV., Methods: Eight hundred and ninety-one ordinary saliva samples, 578 bloody saliva samples and 450 serum samples of dental patients were collected from Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital and Dahua Hospital, and HBsAg, HBsAb, HBeAg, HBeAb and HBcAb were detected by ELISA method. SPSS19.0 software package was used for chi-square test., Results: There was no significant difference in gender, age and household registration between three types of saliva sample: ordinary saliva, bloody saliva and serum (P>0.05). Eight, 11 and 12 of HBV-M combination modes were detected from the above three samples. Six "HHAs" were detected from the normal saliva samples (0.67%), and the detection rate was similar to bloody saliva samples (0.87%) and serum samples (1.56%) (P>0.05). HBsAg detection rate in serum samples was significantly higher than bloody saliva and ordinary saliva (P<0.001). The difference between ordinary saliva and bloody saliva and between different age-group, sex-group, and census register group in serum samples was of no significant difference (P>0.05), and so was HBeAg., Conclusions: Saliva is an important transmission route of hepatitis B, and should be taken seriously. When the infectivity is strong, the virus content in saliva is high. Hepatitis B virus in saliva may come from other than sources except blood.

The medical assistance to advanced schistosomiasis patients established by the Chinese government is a major public facility for patients with advanced schistosomiasis. Since the medical assistance to advance schistosomiasis patients in Hunan Province started ten years ago, a set of mature and operable programs with whole program management and related technologies has been developed. The author investigated the data on medical assistance to advanced schistosomiasis patients in Hunan Province during the last 10 years (from 2006 to 2015) retrospectively, and found that the program had high therapeutic effect and high satisfaction degree of both patients and the society. In order to improve the management of the medical assistance to advanced schistosomiasis patients and share our experiences of the whole program management and related technologies with the colleagues of other provinces, this paper mainly illustrates the experiences of the program, as well as the existing problems and related strategies.

In order to further standardize the diagnosis and treatment of schistosomiasis japonica in China, on the basis of evidence-based medicine, the experts on schistosomiasis control from Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces summarized their consensuses on the disease after the discussion on the current situation and progress of clinical diagnosis and treatment of schistosomiasis in China, with the reference to the Diagnostic Criteria for Schistosomiasis (WS261-2006), which aimed to establish the therapeutic standards or guideline of schistosomiasis in China.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of a novel molluscicide, the salt quinoid-2', 5-dichloro-4'-nitrosalicylanilide from niclosamide (LDS), with 10% wettable powder, in main schistosomiasis epidemic areas of China, including Hunan, Jiangxi, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Yunnan and Zhejiang Province., Methods: In the immersion test, 6 effective concentrations of 10% LDS were tested respectively: 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 g/m3 in the field; at the same time, 50% wettable powder of niclosamide ethanolamine salt (WPN) with effective concentrations of 1.0 g/m was used as the molluscicide control, and the fresh water as the blank control, then the mortality rates of 0. hupensis snails were recorded at 24 h, 48 h and 72 h after the immersion. In the spraying test and powder-spraying test, 5 effective dosages of 10% LDS were tested respectively: 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 g/m2, while 50% WPN 1.0 g/m2 was used as the molluscicide control, and the fresh water as the blank control in the field for 1 d, 3 d and 7 d, then the mortality rates of O. hupensis snails were recorded at 1 d, 3 d and 7 d after the spraying and powder-spraying., Results: The snail mortality rates of LDS using the immersion test for 72 h were more than 95% in the field of eight provinces (0.1 g/m in Sichuan, Jiangxi, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, 0.2 g/m3 in Yunnan, Hunan and Hubei provinces, and 0.4 g/min Anhui Province); the snail mortality rates of LDS using the spraying test for 7 d were more than 85% (0.2 g/m2 in Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi and Zhejiang provinces, 0.4 g/m2 in Sichuan and Anhui provinces, 0.6 g/m2 in Yunnan and Jiangsu provinces). The snail mortality rates of LDS the powder-spraying test for 7 d were more than 85% (0.6 g/m2 in Yunnan, Sichuan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces). According to the standards of "Efficacy test methods and evaluation of molluscicide for pesticide registration (NY/T 1617-2008)", LDS is a qualified molluscicide., Conclusions: LDS has good molluscicidal effects through the immersion, spraying and powder-spraying test in the fields. It is suitable for a variety of environments to control O. hupensis snails of schistosomiasis endemic areas in China. The recommended dosages of LDS are 0.1-0.2 g/m3 by the immersion method, 0.2-0.4 g/m2 by the spraying method, and 0.4-0.6 g/m2 by the powder-spraying method in the fields.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs6007897 of CELSR1 and acute ischemic stroke in Western China Han population., Methods: All subjects (759 acute ischemic stroke patients and 786 controls) were genotyped using ligation detection reaction (LDR). We analyzed the differences between SNP rs6007897 genotypes and allele frequencies between two groups., Results: Two genotypes (AA, AG) of rs6007897 were found in both stroke and control group. There was no statistically significance between two groups about genotype and allele frequency. After adjusting for risk factors, we found there was no significant association between rs6007897 and ischemic stroke CP = 0.797, odds ratio (OR) = 0.886, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.352-2.227)., Conclusion: SNP rs6007897 of CELSR1 was not significantly associated with ischemic stroke in Western China Han population.

Objective: To investigate the status of Cryptosporidium infection in the population in the local area of Anhui Province, and discuss the risk factors of the infection, so as to provide the evidence for the prevention and treatment of cryptosporidiosis., Methods: Qianshan County and Lingbi County of Anhui Province were selected as investigation spots, and the oocysts of Cryptosporidium in the feces of the investigation objects and the specific IgG antibody against Cryptosporidium in the serum were checked by using the pathogenic modified acid fast staining method and ELISA, respectively, so as to determine the status of Cryptosporidium infection in these investigation objects. At the same time, the questionnaire surveys were conducted in the investigation objects so as to know about the risk factors of Cryptosporidium infection., Results: A total of 668 people were investigated in the two counties, 635 people received etiological examinations, and 15 people were positive with the positive rate of 2.36%; 642 people received serological examinations, and 140 people were positive with the positive rate of 21.81%; 628 people received pathogenic and serological examinations at the same time, and the examination results of the both methods showed that 12 people were positive (there were 4 people in Qianshan County and 8 people in Lingbi County) , and the positive rate was 1.94%. The rates of Cryptosporidium infection in the population of Qianshan County and Lingbi County were 1.24% (4/322) and 2.71% (8/295) respectively, and the difference had no statistical significance (P > 0.05). The single factor analysis found that the rate of Cryptosporidium infection was higher in the children and diarrhea patients; the multivariate logistics regression analysis indicated that the rate of Cryptosporidium infection was higher in the people who bred poultry and the diarrhea patients., Conclusions: The positive rate of serum antibody of Cryptosporidium in the population of the local area of Anhui Province is higher, which indicates that the previous infection is serious, and the rate of Cryptosporidium infection in human is relative to the age, diarrhea and whether there are poultries to be bred in the family, which is worthy of attention in the future prevention and treatment.

The combination of Danggui and Honghua (GH) is a popular herb pair commonly used in clinic for the treatment of blood stasis syndrome in China. To evaluate the activating blood circulation and dissipating blood stasis effects of the combination of different proportions of Danggui and Honghua on acute blood stasis rats, and optimize the proportion of GH to have the best activating blood circulation and dissipating blood stasis effect. Acute blood stasis rat model was induced by subcutaneous injection of adrenaline and ice water bath. The blood stasis rats were administrated intragastrically with GH (1 : 0, 4 : 1, 2 : 1, 3 : 2, 1 : 1, 2 : 3, 1: 2, 1 : 4 and 0 : 1) extracts. The whole blood viscosity (WBV), plasma viscosity (PV), and high shear whole blood relative index (HSWBRI), low shear whole blood relative index (LSWBRI), and erythrocyte aggregation index (EAI) were tested to observe the effects of GH on hemorheology of blood stasis rats. And the maximum aggregation induced by adenosine diphosphate (ADP) was tested to observe the effect of GH on platelet aggregation index of blood stasis rats. In addition, the prothrombin time (PT), thrombin time (TT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and plasma fibrinogen (FIB) were tested to observe the effects of GH on blood coagulation function of blood stasis rats. Then principal component analysis and multi-attribute comprehensive index methods were both used to comprehensively evaluate the total activating blood circulation and dissipating blood stasis effects of GH. The results showed that the hemorheological indexes and coagulation parameters of model group both had significant differences with normal group. Compared with model group, GH (1 : 0, 4 : 1, 2: 1, 3 : 2, 1 : 1, 2 : 3, 1 : 2, 1 : 4 and 0 : 1) could improve all the blood hemorheology indexes and regulate part indexes of blood coagulation function and platelet aggregation in acute blood stasis rats. Based on principal component analysis and multi-attribute comprehensive index methods, GH 1 : 1 and GH 3 : 2 both had the best effect of blood circulation and dissipating blood stasis, and the effect of GH 1 : 1 was slightly better than GH 3 : 2. These results suggest that GH could obviously ameliorate the abnormality of hemorheology and blood coagulation function in acute blood stasis rats. The optimized proportion of GH was consistent with regulations of medicine usage that GH 1 : 1 had the highest frequency used in traditional Chinese formulae. It could provide scientific basis for more effective application of the compatibility between Danggui and Honghua in modern clinic medicine.

Objective: To investigate the association between single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs12740374 and acute ischemic stroke in Chinese Han population., Methods: All subjects (778 ischemic stroke patients and 602 controls) were genotyped using ligation detection reaction (LDR). We analyzed the differences among all genotypes in two groups, as well as the association between rs12740374 and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)., Results: All three genotypes (GG, GT, TT) of rs12740374 were found in both stroke and control group. After adjusting for risk factors, although there was a trend that participants with a minor allele T of rs12740374 (GT/TT) had lower LDL-C concentration, no significant association was found between rs12740374 and ischemic stroke, and also no significant association between different genotypes and LDL-C was found., Conclusion: SNPs of rs12740374 was not significantly associated with ischemic stroke in the Chinese Han population.

With the fast economic development in China in recent years, air pollutions are becoming increasingly serious. It is, therefore, imperative to develop new technology to solve this issue. Due to the wide spatial coverage of satellite remote sensing, along with the relatively lower cost compared to ground-based in situ aerosol measurements, satellite retrieved aerosol optical depth (AOD) is widely recognized as a good surrogate of surface PM2.5 concentrations. In this study, two years (2007-2008) of AOD data from moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard Terra at five observational sites of China (Benxi, Zhengzhou, Lushan, Nanning, Guilin), combined with five meteorological factors such as wind speed, wind direction, temperature humidity and planetary boundary height, were used as important input to establish the Back Propagation (BP) neural networks model, which was applied to estimate PM2.5. Afterwards, the model estimated PM2.5 was validated by in situ PM2.5 measurements from the five sites. Specially, scatter analysis showed that the linear correlation coefficient (R) between ground PM2.5 observation and model estimated PM2.5 at Lushan was the highest (R = 0.6), whereas the R values at the four other sites were lower, ranging from 0.43 to 0.49. Time series validations were performed as well, indicating that the R value significantly varied from day to day. However, the R value could be significantly improved by fitting the five-day moving average ground observation values against the model estimated PM2.5 data. Also, the R value at Lushan was the highest (R = 0.83), suggesting that MODIS AOD can be used to monitor PM2.5 by the BP networks model developed in this study.

This paper analyzed the spatiotemporal patterns of thermal resources and of temperature suitability of maize at its different growth stages in Northeast China, based on the 1951-2100 daily mean and minimum air temperature from RegCM3. In 1951-2100, the thermal resources in Northeast China had an obvious persistent increase, the first day of temperature > or = 10 degrees C continued to be advanced, and the north boundary line in the zone of the first date of temperature > or = 10 degrees C before April 25th moved eastward and northward. In 2071-2100, the first date in some areas of Liaoning Province would advance to March 26th, and the areas with active accumulated temperature > or = 10 degrees C more than 3000 degrees C x d, the length of growth season, and the areas suitable for late-maturing maize planting in Northeast China would increase persistently. In the region, the mean annual temperature in 2011-2100 would be 3.34 degrees C higher than that in 1981-2010. In 1951-2100, there was and would be an increasing temperature suitability of maize at its sowing-heading stage. In 1951-2040, the maize temperature suitability at heading-maturing stage and in whole growth season was and would be higher in Liaoning Province than in Heilongjiang Province; in 2041-2100, the maize temperature suitability at heading-maturing stage and in whole growth season would decrease gradually in Liaoning Province but increase gradually in east Jilin Province and Heilongjiang Province.

Objective: To understand the epidemiological characteristics of co-infection of HIV and Blastocystis hominis and its risk factors., Methods: A total of 309 people with HIV positive in the development zone of Fuyang City were recruited, and the face to face questionnaires were conducted to collect the information of behavioral characteristics and sociodemographic data of the participants. Meanwhile, the samples of stool and blood were collected to test B. hominis, cytokines and CD4+/CD8+ T-lymphocyte. The influencing factors of co-infection of HIV and Blastocystis hominis were analyzed by the single factor analysis and Logistic regression analysis., Results: Among the 309 people involved, 302 accepted feces examinations, 286 accepted the questionnaire investigation, and 263 accepted both of them. The infection rate of B. hominis was 17.11%, that of the female was 21.90%, which was significantly higher than that of the male (11.90%) (P < 0.05). The results from the multivariate Logistic regression model showed that good nutrition was significantly associated with the co-infection of HIV and B. hominis (OR = 0.263, 95% CI: 0.073, 0.945)., Conclusions: The infection rate of B. hominis is high in people with HIV positive, and the nutrition situation of individuals may be one of the important risk factors associated with co-infection.

Objective: To screen for potential mutations of LKB1 gene in Chinese familial Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) patients and analyze their clinical manifestations., Methods: Eleven PJS families were collected and genomic DNA of peripheral blood was extracted. Typically mucosal pigmentation and hamartomatous polyps were present in all 11 probands. Mutation screening of the probands were carried out by PCR and direct sequencing. Two hundred and fifty healthy adults were enrolled as normal controls, for whom genomic DNA of peripheral blood was also extracted. PCR-denaturing high performance liquid chromatography was carried out to verify the mutation identified in the patients., Results: Nine germline mutations were identified in eight PJS patients, which included 7 point mutations, 1 deletion and 1 insertion. Among these, 4 were considered to be pathogenic, of which 2 were de novel, 4 were considered to be polymorphism, and 1 was uncertain., Conclusion: LKB1 gene mutations with pathogenic effect are a common cause of familial PJS in Chinese patients. Most mutations are point mutations.

Objective: To understand the co-infection status of HIV and intestinal parasites in a HIV/AIDS highly endemic area in China., Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out in two villages in Fuyang City, Anhui Province, and the infection status of HIV and intestinal parasites were investigated by blood and fecal examinations., Results: A total 769 individuals were enrolled in the investigation, and 720 of whom were participated in stool examinations for intestinal parasite infections. The infection rates of parasites were as follows: 0.56% for Ascaris lumbricoides, 4.03% for Hookworm, 0.28% for Trichuris trichiura, 0.42% for Clonorchis sinensis, 21.39% for Blastocystis hominis, 3.89% for Giardia lamblia, 1.67% for Entamoeba spp., 4.44% for Cryptosporidium spp.. The overall infection rate of intestinal worms and protozoan were 4.72% and 24.31%, respectively. The prevalence rate of anemia was 34.68%. The prevalence rate of HIV was 8.10%. The co-infection rate of HIV and intestinal helminthes was 2.17%, and that of HIV and intestinal protozoan was 28.26%, of which the co-infection rate of Blastocystis hominis and HIV were 19.57%. There was a significant difference between the infection rates of Cryptosporidium spp. in the HIV-positive group (13.04%) and HIV-negative group (4.70%) (P <0.05)., Conclusions: The infection rate of intestinal protozoan is higher than that of intestinal helminthes in local residents. The HIV-positive population is more susceptible to the infection of Cryptosporidium spp.

Objective: To assess the correlation between familial clustering of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the level of anti-P53 in human serum in Guangxi., Methods: Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect anti-P53 in 164 members from 20 HCC families and 164 members from non-cancer control families. Univariate analysis was performed to assess the correlation between seral level of P53 antibody and familial clustering of HCC., Results: The level of P53 antibody was significantly higher in the members of HCC families than controls (Z=-3.04, P=0.002). After eliminating the interference of hepatitis B virus infection, this tendency still remains (P=0.011). And there was a significant difference between relatives of different degrees from HCC families (chi-square=11.593, P=0.021), with the expression of anti-P53 declining along with decrease in relationship coefficient. Furthermore, the number of individuals with high anti-P53 expression was also significantly greater in HCC families (95/164) than controls (71/164) (P=0.006). And the expression was rising along with the increasing HCC numbers (chi-square=16.068, P=0.000). Anti-P53 level was also greater in HCC families featuring sibling affection than parental affection (chi-square=12.679, P=0.002). Univariate analysis indicated that high expression of anti-P53 is a risk factor for development of HCC (OR=2.087, 95%CI: 1.270-3.431)., Conclusion: High level of anti-P53 expression may be a factor for the clustering of HCC families in Guangxi, China.

Based on the daily data under B2 climate scenario (2011-2050) and baseline climate condition (1961-1990) extracted from the regional climate model PRECIS, and by using the Agro-Ecological Zone (AEZ) model, a prediction was conducted on the possible spatiotemporal changes of the climatic potential productivity of the two crops in the Huanghuaihai Plain in 2011-2050. Under baseline climate condition, the climatic potential productivities of winter wheat and summer maize presented a regional differentiation, i.e., higher in southeast and lower in northwest regions, and higher along coast and lower in inland at the same latitudes, and fluctuated within the ranges of 3893-11000 kg x hm(-2) and 5908-12000 kg x hm(-2), respectively. Under B2 climate scenario, the climatic potential productivity of winter wheat and summer maize would have a greater inter-annual change, due to the different matching degrees of light, temperature and water during the growth periods of the crops. The climatic potential productivity of winter wheat in 2011-2030 and summer maize in 2021-2040 would have an obvious increase, with great potential for development. Under the conditions of maintaining the present production, the climatic potential productivity of winter wheat in 2011-2050 would present an overall regional differentiation of reverse change in southeast and northwest regions and the same change in coastal and inland areas, whereas the climatic potential productivity of summer maize in 2011-2050 would have little regional differentiation.

Objective: To understand the dynamic changes of the potential prevalent factors of schistosomiasis in Chaohu Lake area so as to provide forecast information on the outbreak of schistosomiasis in the area., Methods: From 2008 to 2010, fixed and mobile surveillance sites in potential endemic areas of Juchao District in Chaohu City, which was located in the southeast side of Chaohu Lake, were selected, and the schistosomiasis infection situation of local people, mobile population and livestock were investigated by immunological assays and/or stool examinations. The distribution of Oncomelania snails was surveyed in risk areas and suspicious areas, the spreading patterns of Oncomelania snails were observed in rivers that directly connected with the Yangtze River, and the Oncomelania snails were raised in the cages on the beaches of Chaohu Lake and a control area, and their survival and reproduction capacity was observed., Results: In 2008, a total of 301 local people were screened by IHA, and there were no positives. From 2008 to 2010, a total of 321, 362 and 306 mobile population were examined by IHA, respectively, and the positive rate of antibody were 3.74%, 4.97% and 2.94%, respectively. The antibody positives were tested by stool examinations, and the positive rates were 66.67%, 50% and 55.56%, respectively. A total of 91 local livestock and 92 livestock from endemic areas were examined respectively by the miracidium hatching method, and there were no positives. A total of 97.8 hm2 risk areas and 193.62 hm2 suspicious areas in the potential endemic area were surveyed respectively, but no Oncomelania snails were found. The investigation results on snail spreading patterns indicated that snails could spread into Chaohu Lake by adsorbing on floating debris. The field study revealed that Oncomelania snails could survive and reproduce in the Lake., Conclusions: The imported infectious sources of schistosomiasis have been found in Chaohu Lake area, and the higher possibility of imported Oncomelania snails spreading into the Lake and surviving and reproducing in the lake is predicted. Therefore, effective measures should be taken to decrease the risks of schistosomiasis transmission in the potential endemic area.

Objective: To describe the epidemiologic characteristics and clinical manifestations of 59 persons recruited via an internet chat group who complained of AIDS-like symptoms, so as to formulate effective intervention strategies and measures., Methods: Case was defined as onset of any three of the following self-reported AIDS-like symptoms in a member of relevant "internet chat groups": persistent low grade fever, rash, swollen lymph node, fatigue, diarrhea, weight loss and low CD4(+)T count. We administered an internet-based questionnaire, and invited 59 of the 88 case-persons for voluntary physical examination and laboratory testing., Results: The 59 case-persons came from 22 provinces; 54 (91.5%) were men; the median age was 34 (range: 22-53) years; 84.7% of them had high-risk sexual behaviors before the onset of self-reported symptoms. The median time interval from exposure to onset was 15 d (range: 1-365 d). Blood specimens for all the 59 case-persons were tested negative for HIV and syphilis antibodies. There was also no evidence of Xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus infection. One case-person was tested positive for hepatitis C virus antibody. The average CD4(+)T lymphocyte count was 707/µl. Of the 59 case-persons, 57 (96.6%) sought medical care from multiple providers; 40 were diagnosed to have no physical disorders., Conclusion: None of the 59 case-persons had any evidence of infection with HIV or any other infectious agents that could explain their self-reported symptoms.

Based on the 2011-2050 A2 climate scenario derived from the regional climate model PRECIS and the daily data of 1961-1990 baseline climate condition, this paper analyzed the possible changes of the agricultural thermal resources in China from 2011 to 2050. Comparing with the baseline climate condition in 1961-1990, the average frost-free periods in most parts of China in 2011-2050 under A2 climate scenario would have an obvious extension, mainly manifested in the advance of last frost date and the postpone of first frost date. The days with the daily average temperature stably passing 0 degrees C would also prolong significantly, and extend from 1 day to 14 days in most parts of the country. Especially from 2041 to 2050, the days with the daily average temperature stably passing 0 degrees C in most regions of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River, and western and southwestern regions of Gansu and Xinjiang could be extended by 49 days. The > or = 0 degrees C accumulated temperatures in most parts of the country would have increasing trends. In order to meet the future change trend of our agricultural thermal resources and to realize the sustainable development of agriculture in China, some countermeasures should be formulated, e.g., further adjusting agricultural cropping system, optimizing agricultural production distribution, developing biotechnology, and so on.

Objective: To investigate the association of the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) IVS10+12 G>A in hMSH2 gene with colorectal cancer in a Chinese population of Jiangsu province., Methods: A case-control study to investigate whether this SNP affects the risk of developing colorectal cancer was conducted. Subjects included 108 colorectal cancer patients and 180 healthy individuals. Peripheral white blood cell DNA was obtained from all subjects. The hMSH2 gene IVS10+12 G>A was genotyped using a PCR-based DHPLC, the existence of IVS10+12 G>A was verified by DNA sequencing., Results: The allele frequency of the IVS10+12 G>A in the hMSH2 gene in the healthy individuals was 51.7%. There was significant difference in the frequency of the IVS10+12 G>A between patients and healthy controls (P<0.05), and between familial patients and healthy controls (P<0.05). There was also significant difference of the frequency of the IVS10+12 G>A between patients younger than 50 years, and patients with high consumption of fried food and pickled vegetable and healthy controls respectively (P<0.05)., Conclusion: This SNP may be associated with colorectal cancers in Chinese. Further investigation with larger sample size is needed.

In order to reconstruct the chronology of 2,2-his (4-Chlorophenyl)-1,1,1-trichloroethane (DDT) input into the Hongfeng reservoir and assess the pollution issues, the temporal distribution of DDT in sediment core from Hongfeng reservoir was measured using GC/MS method, and the possible sources and potential risk assessment also had been identified. The DDTs (sum of p,p'- and o,p'-DDT, DDE and DDD) in sediment core were ranged from 7.6 to 23.7 ng/g, and roughly, ever decreased from the bottom to the surface sediment. In detail, a sharp decline of DDTs concentration in sediment was found from 1981 to 1983, followed by a tardy decrease trend to the present. The DDTs in sediment were mainly composed of p,p'-DDTs (sum of p,p'-DDT, DDE and DDD). The ratio of p,p'-DDTs to o,p'-DDTs (sum of o,p'-DDT, DDE and DDD) ranged from 5.1 to 8.4, which suggests that the DDTs in sediment were chiefly originated from the technical DDT. Meanwhile, the DDTs in sediments were dominated by the metabolites of DDT (DDD and DDE) and the ratio of DDT/(DDD + DDE) were between 0.31 and 0.84, indicating the DDTs in sediment were mostly stemmed from the historical usage. Besides, the vertical profile of the ratios of DDT/( DDD + DDE) and DDE/DDD indicate that possible usage of technical DDT still occurred in the drainage area of Hongfeng reservoir around 1990, although the usage of technical DDT in agriculture has been banned in 1983. The residue levels of DDE, DDD, DDT, and DDTs in surface sediment from Hongfeng reservoir were all between ERL and ERM, suggesting potential risk could occur, and the contamination of DDT in Hongfeng reservoir deserving more concerns.

Objective: To understand the changing trends of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps from 1998 to 2008., Methods: A stratified-cluster random sampling based cross-sectional NCDs survey was carried out in 2008, and using the data of NCDs from the health service surveys in 1998 and 2004, in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. The prevalence rate of NCDs was standardization according to age proportion of the population being surveyed in 1998., Results: In 1998, 2004 and 2008, the prevalence rates of NCDs in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps were 17.26%, 25.61%, 24.85% while the Standardized rates of NCDs were 17.26%, 23.54% and 20.49% respectively. The prevalence rates of NCDs were statistically significant different in 35-, 45-, 55- and over 65 age groups in 1998, 2004 and 2008 which showed an consecutive upward trend. The prevalence rates of hypertension, diabetes, cerebrovascular disease, coronary heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease increased significantly from 1998 to 2008. The prevalence rate of hypertensive disease among 25- age group, diabetes among 35- age group, cerebrovascular disease and coronary heart disease among 45- age groups showed an increasing trend., Conclusion: Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, together with diabetes were the fastest increasing ones over the past 10 years and becoming the major diseases, making the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps an aging population. NCDs should be prioritized in the health development plan. Targeted health education should be carried out in the whole population, together with other interventions as well as management programs on chronic diseases to reduce the prevalence of NCDs.

By using litter-bag method, the root decomposition characteristics of Castanopsis carlesii stand in Jian'ou Wanmulin Natural Reserve of Fujian Province were studied over two years. Three classes of roots, i.e., 0-1 mm, 1-2 mm, and 2-4 mm in diameter, were tested. During the 2-year period of decomposition, all classes roots showed a bi-phase pattern, being decomposed faster in prophase and slower in anaphase. The leaching loss of extractable substances in roots made root decomposition faster in prophase, while the increase of the acid-insoluble substances concentration in roots restrained the decomposition in anaphase. In the first year, the decomposition rate of all classes roots was controlled by the initial concentrations of their extractive substances and N; while in the second year, the decomposition rate was controlled by the initial C/N and the initial concentrations of acid-insoluble substances, N and P of the roots. During decomposition, all classes roots showed an increasing N concentration and a decreasing P concentration, and the N showed an enrichment-release pattern, while the P showed a direct release pattern.

Objective: To invesigate the molecular pathogenesis of deafness among the youth by means of genetic testing so as to provide pre-marriage genetic counseling and instruction for the deaf youth., Methods: 217 deaf young people, 126 males and 91 females, aged 18.9 (16 - 26), from Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, underwent history taking, auditory testing, and collection of peripheral blood samples. Genomic DNA and mitochondrial DNA were extracted to undergo sequence analysis of the entire gene GJB2, common point mutation of SLC26A4 gene, and mutation of mtDNA A1555G. Genetic prediction and marriage instruction were provided to each subject based on these results., Results: Twenty-three of the 117 persons (10.5%), 13 males and 10 females, were mtDNA A1555G mutation carriers and they were instructed that they, their maternal relatives, and the offspring of the female carriers, should they be born, should strictly avoid the administration of amino glycoside antibiotics. Twenty eight of the 115 persons (12.9%), were confirmed to carry homozygous or compound GJB2 mutations, 5 individuals (2.3%) carried heterozygous GJB2 mutation, 19 (8.8%) carried homozygous or compound SLC26A4 mutations, and one (0.5%) carried heterozygous SLC26A4 mutation. The suggestion for them was to avoid getting married with deaf partners caused by the same deaf gene or with individuals carrying mutations in the same deaf gene. Meanwhile, suggestions such as avoiding aggressive exercises and head injury were provided to the deaf young people with SLC26A4 mutations., Conclusion: Genetic testing can provide more accurate and useful genetic counseling and instruction to deaf young people for their partner selection and eugenics.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of GJB2 mutations in Uigur and Han ethnic groups in Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region, China and to understand the mutation spectrum and frequency of the GJB2 gene in these 2 ethnic groups., Methods: Questionnaire survey was conducted among 61 Uigur deaf-mute students, 60 Han deaf-mute students, and 98 normal Uigurs and 301 normal Han people as controls. Peripheral blood samples were collected to undergo PCR and sequencing of GJB2 gene., Results: The GJB2 mutation rate of the Uigur deaf-mute students was 19.7%, not significantly different from that of the Han deaf-mute students (17.2%). GJB2 35delG was found only in the Uigur deaf-mutes with a carrier rate of 11.5%, whereas 235delC was identified in both Uigur and Han deaf-mutes. The allelic frequency of 35delG mutation in the Uigur and Han deaf-mutes and the Uigur controls were 7.4% (9/122), 0 (0/128), and 0 (0/196) respectively. The allelic frequencies of the GJB2 235delC mutations in the Uigur and Han deaf-mute students were 5.7% and 9.8%, and the allelic frequencies of 299 - 300delAT were 0.8% and 5.5%. V27I and E114G were the most frequent types of polymorphism., Conclusion: There is a rather high mutation rate of GJB2 gene in Xinjiang. The carrier frequency of 35delG of the Uigurs is significantly higher than that of the Han population. 235delC is common in both Uigur and Han people.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of a common GJB2 mutation in a big Chinese population of deaf children and the features of its distribution in regions all over the nation and to provide epidemiology data and expertise for genetic testing of deafness in China., Methods: The DNA samples of NSHI patients and normal controls were collected from different typical areas of China. The method of polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) with ApaI was used to determine the genotype of GJB2 235 site., Results: Totally 16.3% of patients carried at least one 235 delC mutant allele. Among them, 7.8% was homozygous and 8.5% was heterozygous. The prevalence of GJB2 235delC mutation in China was evident, and the significant difference of 235delC mutation frequency was found in sub-population from different areas and different ethnic groups., Conclusions: Based upon the result of this screening as stated, Chinese NSHI patients appear to have 235delC frequency and the number of GJB2 related deafness was estimated to be huge. The testing of GJB2 235delC mutation would play an important role in genetic diagnosis and screening in China. As high as 15% of patients could be diagnosed as GJB2 caused deafness (bi-allelic mutation) only by means of this simple, fast and economic assay. In addition, patients were negative for 235delC mutation would be candidates for further mutational analysis of GJB2 or other deafness related genes.

Objective: To investigate the acceptability and influential factors of Voluntary HIV Counseling and Testing (VCT) among the Chinese and Ethiopian peacekeepers in Liberia so as to conduct more effective health education of AIDS and enhance the acceptance of VCT., Methods: An anonymous questionnaire was used to investigate the attitudes to VCT among 518 Chinese (aged 23-51) and 648 Ethiopian (aged 25-49) peacekeepers in Liberia., Results: The rates of those who claimed to have never heard of HIV/AIDS were 8.1% and 7.9% in the Chinese and Ethiopian subjects respectively, with no significant differences (P > 0.05) in between. Among those who had heard of HIV/ AIDS, 407 (85.5%) Chinese and 449 (75.2%) Ethiopians expressed their willingness to accept VCT, with a significant difference (P < 0.05) between the two groups. Statistic analysis indicated that the acceptance of VCT was as- sodiated with schooling and knowledge on HIV/AIDS in both groups as well as with the susceptibility to HIV among the Ethiopian subjects., Conclusion: The acceptability of VCT is obviously lower among those with less schooling and less knowledge of HIV/AIDS. It is important to carry out information-oriented education to increase VCT acceptability among the peacekeepers in the area with a high incidence of AIDS.

Purpose: To investigate the relationship between age and maturation of cervical vertebra in 216 adolescents in Shanghai municipality., Methods: 216 adolescents from 10 to 20 years old were investigated by lateral cephalometric radiographs. The growth status and the relationship of C2- C5 cervical vertebra were evaluated by SAS 6.12 software package with Fisher's test., Results: The shapes of cervical vertebra bodies varied in regular manner. Although female went into the young quick growing period 2 years earlier than male, the shape changes had no significant difference between gender.The beginning and the peak of the puberty spurt was with great individual diversity., Conclusion: The morphological variation of cervical vertebra can be used as an indicator of skeletal age to determine adolescents' growth and development status.

Crofton weed, Ageratina adenophora,a troublesome weed in the world,is an invasive organism in China. Genetic diversity of thirty-two Chinese populations of A. adenophora from different areas was analyzed with the inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) technique. It indicated that its genetic diversity was rich. Nei's gene diversity and Shannon's information index were 0.235 and 0.372 at species level respectively. Genetic variation of Crofton weed mainly existed in the population, and about 34.5% of the total variance was attributable to population divergence and 65.5% to individual differences within populations. The Mantel Z-statistic test showed that the genetic distance between populations generally increased with geographic distance (r=0.542,p< 0.001),which indicated that isolation by distance is one of the blocks of gene flow of A. adenophora. Genetic diversity level of Crofton weed had the trend to decrease along with the increased altitude (r=0.368,P<0.001), and the mean of Nei's gene diversity and Shannon's diversity indices both decreased with the increased altitude.

Objective: To understand the immune level of the purified protein derivative (PPD) and the present conditions of the tuberculosis among the collegians., Methods: Standardized tuberculin testing with PPD 5 IU, social-demographic and epidemiological feature of tuberculosis were conducted in 105,239 freshmen from 33 universities in Beijing., Results: The scar rates of freshmen were 72.21%. The rates coming from cities were higher than those from countries. The scar rates were near equal for freshmen in different ages. However the rates were different evidently with the region where the students come from. The scar rates of freshmen from cities were 75.84%. The scar rates of the freshmen from countries were 62.78%. Tuberculosis infection rate of the freshmen was 51.99% and the strong positive rate was 14.63%. Tuberculosis positive rate of city students was obviously higher than that of rural ones. Tuberculosis positive rate of city students was 55.17% and the strong positive rate was 15.37%. Tuberculosis positive rate of rural students was 44.69% and the strong positive rate was 12.70%. There appeared great difference between them. Moreover, Tuberculosis infection rate was varied with age and region. The tuberculosis positive rate of students from north-east areas was the highest (72.10%, 7,746/10,744), and those come from the middle-north areas were the lowest (41.50%, 6,560/15,808). The tuberculosis positive rate (62.49%, 47,489/75,992) of the freshmen with the scar was higher than that of those without the scar (24.72%, 7,230/29,247). The tuberculosis positive rate of the freshmen having a touch with the tuberculosis cases (60.75%) was higher than those having not (51.96%)., Conclusion: As students in universities are susceptible population of tuberculosis, it should be emphasized to find out tuberculosis in university and to treat them early for the purpose of preventing the episode and explosion of the disease.

Objective: To investigate and analyze AIDS knowledge of the Chinese peacekeepers in Liberia and to evaluate the effects of AIDS education in order to conduct more effective health education of AIDS and increase AIDS knowledge among the Chinese peacekeepers in the areas with a high incidence of AIDS., Methods: A questionnaire was designed on the basis of that recommended by WHO to investigate the knowledge of AIDS among the 528 Chinese peacekeepers in Liberia respectively before and after relevant health education, and the results were compared., Results: There was an obvious deficiency in AIDS knowledge among the subjects before the education and an evident increase after it, and the difference was significant (P <0.01)., Conclusion: The Chinese peacekeepers are deficient in AIDS knowledge, and the deficiency can be effectively improved by relevant health education, which is essential for the health of the Chinese peacekeepers in the areas with a high incidence of AIDS.

Objective: This study is to understand the difference of semen quality among the different areas and the related factors., Methods: Five hundred and sixty-two people were under from seven provinces., Results: Results showed that the quantity and density of semen, the rate of moving forward semen, livability, percent age of normal formed semen and the total number of semen were statistically different among the seven areas. The difference was ranged as 28.82%, with the highest 2.95 ml in Shanxi province and the lowest 2.29 ml in Henan province. Geometric mean of semen density was found the lowest 36.27 x 10(6)/ml in Guizhou province, next to it was 42.52 x 10(6)/ml in Shandong province and the highest was 74.77 x 10(6)/ml in Hebei province. The percent age with forward progression of semen was seen the lowest 44.40% in Henan province, followed by 51.88% in Hebei province and 52.88% in Zhejiang province and the highest were 76.50% in Shanghai, 75.24% in Shanxi province, with a range of 72.30%. The highest semen viability was 85.89% in Shanghai, while the lowest 72.35% in Henan, with a range of 18.71%. Normal sperm morphology was seen the lowest 68.45% in Hebei province, with the highest 88.06% in Guizhou province, and the range was 28.65%. The geometric mean of total sperm count was seen the highest 204.23 x 10(6)/ml in Hebei province and the lowest 77.69 x 10(6)/ml in Guizhou province. Results showed through analysis of variance that some indexes were different in some provinces., Conclusion: The results indicated that the semen quality was different in different regions in China and its influential factors may be region and geography environment.

Objective: To evaluate the current situation of corneal donors and possible way to improve the corneal donation program in the city of Chongqing., Methods: (1) The 1,400 residents of Chongqing were randomly surveyed to understand their ideas and attitudes towards corneal donation and to evaluate the correlation between their knowledge and their participation in the program in May - December, 2001. (2) The sociology data of 1,278 registered donors in the Chongqing Eye Bank were analyzed from March 1999 to December 2001.(3) The social-medical data of 37 eye donors were analyzed from March 1999 to December 2001., Results: (1) Results of the random survey: the response rate was 79.14% (1,108/1,400), 1,072 (76.57%) questionnaire met the criteria for further analysis.47.20% of 1,072 persons would like to be eye donors, 62.69% supported eye donation, 32.55% would only donate their cornea, but 90.49% did not register to be a donor at present. Of those surveyed, about 2/3 were not familiar with the Chongqing Eye Bank, most did not know how to become an eye donor, and 75.28% supported local legislation to regulate donation. (2) Data of 1,278 registered eye donors: 550 were males and 728 were females, 61.89% were 30 years old or younger, most were students, teachers, medical staff or white-collared workers in general, and more than half had a university level education. (3) Data of 37 eye donors: 25 were males and 12 were females, age range was 20 - 88 years old, the main causes of death were malignant tumors and cardio-cerebral vessel disorders, 59% had nine or less years of education while only 11% had a university level education, and nine were also cadaver donors. The clinical utilization rate of eyes was 73%., Conclusions: (1) There are a significant number of people who are willing to be eye donors. Education level and age do not affect their decision to become donors. (2) Only a small percentage of the mass are registered eye donors. (3) Legislation regarding eye donation should be enacted as soon as possible. (4) Corneal donations could be higher than those at present.
