1. Research on Spatial Downscaling for Multi-year Average Monthly Precipitation Data of TRMM in East China.

The validity of Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) data has been widely verified in many areas. However, its unsatisfactory spatial resolution fails to meet the high precision requirements of precipitation data for small-scale region studies. In this paper, the geographical topographic and meteorological factors (the water vapor index from MODIS05) required by the downscaling model were obtained by integrating the data from meteorological stations, the remote sensing satellite, DEM, and other multi-source data. Based on the mechanism of topographic precipitation, the relationship between characteristic down-scaling factors and local precipitation was constructed, and the downscaling model based on water vapor index (TRMM
MOD05 ) was obtained. The average monthly precipitation data of TRMM with a resolution of 0. 25° x 0. 25° in East China from 2005 to 2015 were downscaled to a resolution of 1 km x 1 km by using TRMMMOD05 model. The accuracy evaluation of downscaling results using the observed precipitation data of the stations shows that TRMMMOD05 model not only significantly improves the spatial resolution of TRMM precipitation products, but also improves the accuracy of original data, and can better describe the spatial heterogeneity of regional precipitation caused by complex terrain. In addition, the estimated accuracy of TRMMMOD05 model is slightly higher than that of the downscaling model based on lag normalized vegetation index (TRMMLNDVI). Therefore, the downscaling method proposed in this paper can provide technical support for obtaining reliable precipitation data in areas with sparse meteorological stations or complex terrain.
