Objective To explore the effect of Huashi Tongbi formula (HTF) in treating erectile dysfunction (ED) in rats and its therapeutic mechanism. Methods SD rats were divided into control group, sham surgery group, model control group, sildenafil group, and HTF low, medium, and high dose group, with 7 rats in each group. The sildenafil group was gavaged with sildenafil aqueous solution, the HTF group was gavaged with low, medium, and high doses of HTF aqueous solution, and the other three groups were gavaged with physiological saline for 6 weeks of intervention. ICP and MAP were measured, ICP/MAP was calculated, and serum TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, CRP, IL-6, and NO. Results Compared with the control group, the model control group showed a decrease in penile erection frequency, a decrease in ICP/MAP (P <0. 05), an increase in TC and LDL-C, a decrease in HDL-C (P <0.05), an increase in CRP, IL-6, and a decrease in NO (P <0.05). Compared with the model control group, the moderate dose group of HTF increased the number of penile erections ( P < 0. 05 ), while the various dose groups of HTF decreased LDL-C and increased HDL-C (P < 0.05), decreased CRP and IL-6, and increased NO (P< 0.05). Conclusion HTF improves dyslipidemia, inhibits inflammatory reactions, and increases serum NO levels for the treatment of ED in rats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
