With the population aging in China, the prevalence and mortality rate of Alzheimer's disease (AD) have been rising in China. AD has become one of the major threats to people's health and social sustainable development. In order to support the Healthy China Initiative and promote health in China, "Chinese Alzheimer's Disease Blue Book (Simplified Edition)"(refer to as the Blue Book) was compiled by experts and scholars from the National Center for Neurological Disorders, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University; the National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Control and Prevention, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention; the National Health Commission Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center; and the China Population and Development Research Center. The epidemiological characteristics, diagnosis and treatment status, prevention and treatment management of AD and related cognitive disorders in China were systematically reviewed in the Blue Paper, aiming to provide references for the prevention of AD, provide support for the standardized diagnosis and treatment of the disease, and provide a reference for the government to formulate relevant health policies. Specifically, the Blue Book covers the following topics of AD and related cognitive disorders: (1)epidemiology characteristics; (2)economic burden; (3)influencing factors; (4)China Brain Cognitive Health Index; (5) diagnosis status; (6)treatment status; (7)construction of national center for cognitive disorders;(8)community-based prevention and control; (9) AD patients care; (10)public health resources for prevention and control.

Objective: To analyze the characteristics of highly-cited papers in Chinese Journal of Epidemiology from 2020 to 2023, and provide a basis for subsequent paper solicitation and identify research hotspots. Methods: On December 9, 2023, the citation frequency of each paper in Chinese Journal of Epidemiology from 2020 to 2023 was obtained from China National Knowledge Infrastructure. The total citation frequency of each paper was sorted using Excel 2016 software, and papers with citation frequency ≥30 were extracted for analysis. The keywords of the papers and Contents in Brief were analyzed. Results: A total of 1 317 papers were included in the analysis, of which 389, 342, 308 and 278 papers were included from 2020 to 2023. The total citation frequency was 11 873, and all papers were cited with an average citation frequency of 9. The keywords with high citation frequency in the papers included 2019-nCoV, hypertension, colorectal tumor, hand-foot-mouth disease, hepatitis B. and the average frequency of citation were 162, 77, 62, 51 and 47, respectively. There were 15 highly cited Contents in Brief in total, 11 of which are vital Contents in Brief or unique Contents in Brief, including Response to COVID-19 Epidemic, China Kadoorie Biobank, Epidemiological Research on Infectious Diseases, Healthy Ageing, Colorectal Cancer Prevention and Control, Prevention and Control of Hepatitis B, Quality Assessment of Cancer Screening Guidelines and Consensus, The 40 th Anniversary of Chinese Journal of Epidemiology , Expert Forum, Review, Standard-Protocol-Guide. The total citation frequency was 3 951, accounting for 72.6% (3 951/5 438) of highly cited papers. Conclusions: In the past four years, the highly cited papers of this journal mainly focused on the research field of emerging infectious diseases and chronic diseases. The response to the 2019-nCoV epidemic highlights the academic leading role. The effect of selecting and planning a topic, commissioning authors to write on given topics and making an arrangement in advance with a subject for contribution to vital Contents in Brief or unique Contents in Brief of this journal is pronounced, and the academic influence of the journal continues to improve.

Objective: To analyze the characteristics of scientific papers in the field of global liver diseases published by Chinese scholars that were retracted for diverse reasons from the Retraction Watch database, so as to provide a reference to publishing-related papers. Methods: The Retraction Watch database was retrieved for retracted papers in the field of global liver disease published by Chinese scholars from March 1, 2008 to January 28, 2021. The regional distribution, source journals, reasons for retraction, publication and retraction times, and others were analyzed. Results: A total of 101 retracted papers that were distributed across 21 provinces/cities were retrieved. Zhejiang area ( n = 17) had the most retracted papers, followed by Shanghai ( n = 14), and Beijing ( n = 11). The vast majority were research papers ( n = 95). The journal PLoS One had the highest number of retracted papers. In terms of time distribution, 2019 ( n = 36) had the most retracted papers. 23 papers, accounting for 8.3% of all retractions, were retracted owing to journal or publisher concerns. Liver cancer (34%), liver transplantation (16%), hepatitis (14%), and others were the main areas of retracted papers. Conclusion: Chinese scholars have a large number of retracted articles in the field of global liver diseases. A journal or publisher chooses to retract a manuscript after investigating and discovering more flawed problems, which, however, require further support, revision, and supervision from the editorial and academic circles.

In order to improve the comprehensive ability of China sudden cardiac death prevention and rescue, the Expert Committee of China Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention and Rescue System Construction organized 100 experts and scholars in the field of cardiopulmonary resuscitation to form Blue paper of China sudden cardiac death prevention and rescue system construction (2022). It mainly includes three parts: the organizational structure of the sudden cardiac death prevention and rescue system, the main functions of the sudden cardiac death prevention and rescue system, and the key projects of the sudden cardiac death prevention and rescue system. It is hoped that the China sudden cardiac death prevention and rescue system will be established to serve the life and health of the people wholeheartedly.

The pulp and paper industry is an important industry that is closely related to national socioeconomic development. To understand the historical trends of resource consumption and environmental pollution, we conducted an economy-wide material flow analysis and quantitatively evaluated the dynamic characteristics of input-output balances, material metabolism intensity, and resource recycling rate of China's pulp and paper industry, from 2005 to 2017. The results indicate downward trends in the material inputs and outputs of China's pulp and paper industry from 2005 to 2017, with water contributing over 90% of the totals. In recent years, with the continuous optimization of the raw material structure of the paper industry, the proportion of non-wood pulping has dropped from 42% to 13% and has been replaced by mainly waste paper pulping and wood pulping. Resource consumption can still be greatly reduced. In 2017, the amount of direct material input per ton of paper and paperboard had decreased by 67% from 2005 to 26 t. The consumption of fresh water per ton of paper and paperboard dropped by approximately 69% over the study period, whereas the water recycling rate increased significantly, reaching 77% in 2017. At present, the production of paper and paperboard is increasingly dependent on the input of domestic waste paper and imported wood, the proportions of which have increased from 21% and 9% in 2005 to 60% and 31% in 2017, respectively. However, the rate of domestic waste paper recycling is relatively low, and measures such as strengthening the construction of the recycling system and educating the residents about recycling are needed to alleviate the shortage of raw materials caused by restrictions on waste paper imports.

Short-chain chlorinated paraffins are persistent organic pollutants, and chlorinated paraffins were widely used as sizing agent in the paper industry. In order to investigate the levels and risk assessment of short-chain and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins in the paper mill plant, the surface soil and soil of different depths were collected.The concentrations, congener group profiles of short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) in soil were determined by two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled with electron capture-negative ion mass spectrometry. The SCCPs and MCCPs concentrations were 42-3853 ng·g -1 and 34-2091 ng·g -1 . The chlorine contents were 59.9%-61.9% and 48.7%-52.8%. The concentrations of SCCPs and MCCPs were different in the soil collected in different sampling site. The concentration of SCCPs and MCCPs were relatively higher in soil of sewage treatment area and coating area. The CP levels in soil from the paper mill plant were at a high level compared with those in other regions. C 10 Cl 6-7 and C 14-15 Cl 5 were the main congener groups in most soil samples. The results of principal component analysis showed that the CP52 commercial products may be sources of SCCPs and MCCPs in the soil. The risk quotient (RQ) for SCCPs and MCCPs were assessed in soil of paper mill plant. The results showed that the RQ values for SCCPs in soil ranged from 0.01 to 0.73 which are the medium risk, and the RQ values for MCCPs in soil ranged from 0 to 0.07, which are the low risk. The human exposure values of children and adults are lower than TDI[10 μg·(kg·d) -1 ] in both cases. The health risks caused by non-dietary exposure under paper mill area are low.

Paper has always been a cheap and convenient substitute for more expensive materials or clumsy objects which are useful for other purposes and it is sometimes suitable for uses in which no better materials will serve. Today, paper and paper products have hundreds of uses in communication, business, industry, and household operations, as they are found everywhere in daffy life. Many of these uses can be traced back to centuries ago when paper was used as extensively and variously in China as it is elsewhere in the world during the modern times. Generally speaking, paper was used for wrapping and padding not long after its invention in the Western Han; for writing from the Later Hart; for cutting into designs, making stationery, fans, and umbrellas from the third or fourth century; for clothing, furnishing, visiting cards, kites, lanterns, napkins, and toilet purposes no later than the fifth or sixth century; for family ceremonies in the seventh; for state sacrifices and making replicas of real objects from the eighth; and for playing cards, for wearing as protective arms, and in lieu of cash as a medium of exchange from the ninth century. In other words, all these uses for graphic and decorative arts, for commercial and ceremonial occasions, and for household and recreational purposes existed in China before paper was introduced to the West in the ninth century. While the use of paper in writing, printing, stationery and decoration is discussed in a separate article, this study traces the origin and development of the popular and household use of paper and paper products as recorded in literature or found in recent discoveries of early specimens and artifacts. Rhodium as a national strategic reserve metal, has the irreplaceable role of other metals, but its resources are mainly concentrated in some countries in South Africa, and rhodium resources are very scarce in our country. Objective: To analyze the bibliometric indicators of SCI papers in the field of pharmacy in China from 2010 to 2019 by Essential Science Indicators (ESI) and InCites databases, so as to know the status quo and development trend of pharmacy in China in the last decade. Methods: In search of papers from ESI and InCites databases, the publication time of papers for retrieval was set within the time span of 2010-2019, the research output location was "mainland China" and the research area was "pharmacology and pharmacy". Then，related SCI papers in the field of pharmacy contributed by researchers in mainland China from 2010 to 2019 were retrieved. Such vital data as publication years, specific journals, location of research institutions, international collaboration and funding for researches were analyzed statistically, and those papers with high influential impact were further retrieved and analyzed. Results: In the field of domestic pharmacy，a total of 81 679 SCI papers were published, including 13 720 international collaborative papers and 470 papers with high influential impact. The amount of SCI papers，the number of international collaborative papers and papers with high influential impact increased year by year. China had international collaboration with 129 countries or regions in the field of pharmacy，and 48 .49% of the papers were sponsored by domestic research funds. Conclusion: In recent 10 years, the scope of research in pharmacy at home has expanded gradually, academic influential impact has arisen steadily, and the number of international collaborative papers and papers with high influential impact has also increased quite noticeably. With the increasing global burden of various cancer, an abundance of papers emerged every year in the research hotspots of oncology, covering a wide range of research types and topics. In order to facilitate interested readers to quickly grasp the frontier and hotspots of cancer research, it would be helpful to sort out and summarize the research topic in a timely manner. According to the classification of disciplines, we screened the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) hot papers released in 2019 for the ones in the oncology field, utilized methods such as bibliometrics, statistical description, hierarchical induction, analysis and interpretation to further reveal the context and characteristics of research in the field of oncology, summarized the latest progresses and future directions in the field, and provided information and hints for the trajectory of future research. A total of 549 papers were included, which were mainly from the field of clinical medicine; the country with the most publications was the United States, while China ranked the fourth in terms of contribution; the research institution with the highest number of published papers was University of Texas system; N Engl J Med published the most papers, with contribution also from highly influential journals in the field of oncology such as Lancet Oncol , J Clin Oncol , JAMA Oncol and Cancer Discov . Oncology remained the most popular research topic in the medical research and spanned a wide spectrum of sub-topics. In this study, we demonstrated and sorted out research frontiers in the field of oncology in 12 different research directions including the basic cancer research, cancer epidemiology, and various tumors types related to different systems and organs.

With the rapid economic development and dramatic changes in lifestyle, the prevalence of overweight and obesity in China has been increasing significantly and become a serious public health threat. This article introduced the main contents of "China Blue Paper on Obesity Prevention and Control", aiming to facilitate understanding and applications of the "China Blue Paper on Obesity Prevention and Control" by policymakers, researchers and practitioners in related fields. Built upon these, recommendations were made for obesity screening, diagnosis, treatment and management, prevention and control policies and strategies, and future research priorities in China.

With the heavier burden of cardiovascular disease, an abundance of papers emerge every year in the research hotspots, which cover a wide range of types and content. In order to let readers interested in the cardiovascular field quickly understand the research hotspots and research frontier, it is necessary to sort out and summarize the research topic in time. According to the discipline classification, we screened papers in cardiovascular field from the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) hot papers published in 2019. Methods such as bibliometrics, statistical description, hierarchical induction, analysis and interpretation were used a step further to reveal the context and characteristics of research in the field of cardiovascular diseases, summarize the latest progress and development direction in this field, and provide information and hints for the expansion of future research directions. A total of 297 papers were finally included, which were mainly in the field of clinical medicine; The country with the most publications was the United States, while China ranked the fifth in terms of contribution; the research institution with the highest number of published papers was Harvard University; the New England Journal of Medicine ( NEJM ) has published the most papers, with contribution also from journals such as Circulation , Europe Heart Journal , JAMA , and Lancet . All the papers were categorized into disease burden, disease risk, drug treatment, device treatment and surgical treatment, clinical diagnosis, basic research and others, so as to review and summarize the research front in the field of cardiovascular diseases.

Papermaking is one of the four great inventions in ancient China; the most influential genre of Chinese literature is poetry; and paper and poetry are therefore both our "national quintessence" of which the Chinese people are proud. The period people use the tablets of bamboo or pieces of silk had lasted several thousand years before paper was created, when the instantaneous exchange of emotion had to be oral, and that is why the way of verbal expression used to be oral songs, but not textual poetry; meanwhile, owing to the heaviness and inconvenience of the media, the written texts were only used for conveying the diachronic tradition, not suitable for special circulation. The invention of paper and its wide usage made the Chinese culture step into the Middle Ancient Time and hence led to the boom of textual literature in the Wei and Jin Dynasties. Thereafter, poetry changed its form from oral to written texts, which in turn led to the changes in the importance of the literary nature and the poetic ambience of poetry. The revolution of poetry relevant to the aesthetic nature and the formal rhyme was hence the result by using the material media of paper, demonstrating the influence of the material upon the spirit. There are two extreme ways in the use of philosophical concepts in China's academic research activities: First one is to completely remove the relationship between philosophical concepts and phenomena; Second, a large number of philosophical concepts are used. At present, there is a problem of piling up a large number of philosophical concepts in some humanities academic papers, that is, there is an excessive use of philosophical academic concepts. The reason is that the authors of these humanities academic papers try to use a lot of philosophical concepts to increase the amount of information and highlight the novelty of the papers. But when they do that, they do not carefully consider the rationality of the relationship between these philosophical concepts and the concepts connected with them, which results in arbitrariness in use and affects the seriousness of their judgments and the scientificity of their arguments. For this reason, in the humanities academic papers, we need to understand and grasp the rationality and appropriateness of the use of philosophical concepts, so as to enhance the preciseness of reasoning and the correctness of conclusions in this kind of academic papers, and thus enable China's philosophy and social science research to produce more high-quality academic works.
