To study the sloshing effect of 16 x 104m³ LNG storage tanks under the near-fault ground motions and compared the responses of tanks under near fault ground motions and common ground motions, 5 near fault ground motions with different pulse period and 4 common ground motions on site II were selected as earthquake excitation, three-dimensional tank model was established by using the finite element software ADINA, and the seismic response was carried out by the dynamic time integration method. The results are as followings: the seismic responses of storage tanks under the near fault ground motions is larger than common ground motions. Near fault ground motions will cause more severe sloshing, while the pulse period is the main influencing factor. The severe sloshing of the liquid has a great impact on the inner tank wall and dome, which leads to the sudden increase of the stress and acceleration on the upper part of the tank wall, the sudden change of the dynamic hydraulic pressure of the upper liquid, the increase of the effective stress of the dome. Therefore, the anti-sloshing device should be installed in the design and construction of the large LNG storage tanks which in the fault zone to avoid the leakage and damage of the storage tanks due to excessive sloshing.
