Chinese scholars have studied Bakhtin focusing on his Dialogue Theory, Polyphonic Novel and Carnival Poetics. With the prosperity of Cultural Studies, Bakhtin's Carnival Theory become a hot topic in the study of popular culture. From the perspective of theory genetics, Carnival Theory can't be directly used as effective discourses for the study of popular culture. Hence, it is of great importance to understand the reasonable relationship between Carnival Theory and popular culture, and also show the enlightening significance of Carnival Theory with the reflection of present Chinese popular culture. In his study on Rabelais, Bakhtin put forward the concept of earnivalization as a new critical method and perspective, which lays foundation for the carnival poetics. Bakhtin's carnival theory proves to be very effective and revealing for our understanding of Miss Julie under the pen of Strindberg. The carnival atmosphere and emotion plays an important role in the degradation of Miss Julie. The carnival temporarily subverts the usual relationships of class and gender, but it cannot completely transform the old concepts and ideas in people's minds.
