The elemental concentration of Cr contained in soil is measured with laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). As the LIBS laser power, the laser wavelength is of 1 064 nm with pulse width of 8 ns and laser repetition frequency of 10 Hz in this experiment and Cr 427.4 nm is selected as the analytical line of LIBS. The experimental results show that the relative standard deviation (RSD) of the detected content of Cr is 12.1% at the delay time of 4.78 μs and the soil sample surface 1 mm behind lens focal point. The limit of detection (LOD) of LIBS is 2.01 ppm. The measured relative deviation between the measured value and the nature value is 5.15%. Because the LIBS has advantages such as lower LOD and higher detection precision, LIBS has a guiding significance to detect heavy metal in soil and to monitor environmental quality precisely and rapidly.

In order to further improve the curative effect of the herb-participated moxibustion on umbilicus, we collected a wide range of literature on herb-participated moxibustion on umbilicus and then systematically arranged them to analyze and summarize the technology and operating methods of herb-participated moxibustion on umbilicus. We also briefly discussed issues on application of medicine, locust tree skin and ginger, the method of kneading dough for medical uses, and the appropriate size of moxa cone and its using frequency in order to form clear concepts and standardized operations to provide theories and operational basis for the clinical application of modern herb-participated moxibustion on umbilicus.

Objective: To compare the effect of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) with radiofrequency ablation alone for the treatment of 3 - 5 cm hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)., Methods: From January 2006 to March 2010, sixty-two HCC patients were randomly treated with RFA combined with TACE (n = 32) or RFA alone (n = 30). This group included the patients who had Child-Pugh class A or B with three or fewer tumors, in which just one tumor size was 3 - 5 cm in diameter, and no evidence of extrahepatic tumor metastasis or macrovascular invasion. The follow up ranged from 9 to 39 months. Survival probabilities were estimated with the Kaplan-Meier method, and differences between survival curves were evaluated with the Log rank test., Results: At the end of the study, the 1-, 2- and 3-year overall survival rates in the combined treatment group were 90.6%, 72%, and 53.1%, respectively, and in the radiofrequency ablation alone group were 83.3%, 56.75%, and 23.3%, respectively. The differences between the survival curves of the two groups were not statistically significant (P = 0.176). The 1-, 2-, and 3-year progress-free survival rates in the combined treatment group were 75.0%, 50.0%, and 34.3%, respectively, and in the radiofrequency ablation alone group were 63.3%, 33.3%, and 16.7%, respectively. The differences between the two groups were statistically significant (P = 0.027). The 1-, 2-, and 3-year local tumor progression rates in the combined treatment group were 12.5%, 18.75%, and 18.75% vs. 16.7%, 30%, and 36.6% in the radiofrequency ablation alone group, with a significant difference between the two groups (P = 0.047)., Conclusion: Radiofrequency ablation plus TACE is better than radiofrequency ablation alone for the treatment of 3 - 5 cm hepatocellular carcinoma.

Objective: To establish a method based on a pseudotyped virus assay for screening drugs for anti-H5N1 avian influenza virus, and then to evaluate anti-virus activity of traditional Chinese herbal compounds with the function of purgation, detoxification, cooling the blood and reinforcing the healthy qi based on seropharmacology., Methods: Pseudotyped viruses expressing H5N1 virus hemagglutinin were constructed. Herb-medicated sera were prepared by feeding Wistar rats traditional Chinese herbal compounds. Then inhibitory effects of different drug-medicated sera against pseudotyped virus were evaluated based on incubating serum with pseudotyped viruses or target cells such as Madin-Darby canine kidney cells and human embryonic kidney cell line 293T cells, and the expression of hemagglutinin (HA) protein was detected by flow cytometry., Results: Pseudotyped virus could be neutralized by specific 2B4 monoclonal antibody at doses of 50 μL (500 μg), 25 μL (250 μg) and 12.5 μL (125 μg), which showed that it was a feasible assay to screen drugs. No significant difference was observed in inhibition against H5N1 pseudotyped virus between herb-medicated sera and control serum (P>0.05), meanwhile, the herb-medicated sera also could not inhibit HA expression., Conclusion: Pseudotyped virus assay is a safe, effective, and exact method for screening anti-H5N1 avian influenza virus herbs, and herb-medicated sera prepared by administration of herbs with the function of purgation, detoxification, cooling the blood and reinforcing the healthy qi do not contain active ingredient or monomer which can inhibit HA and sialic acid-α 2,3-galatose.

Objective: To investigate the effect of opening of mitochondrial ATP-sensitive potassium channel on inducing lung protection against ischemia reperfusion injury (I/R) and the role of PKC in the protective effect., Methods: Fifty-six rats were divided into six groups, including sham-operation group, I/R group, DE (diazoxide) +I/R group, 5-HD (5-hydroxydecanoic acid) +DE+I/R group, CHE (chelerythrine) +DE+I/R group and 5-HD +PMA (phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate)+ I/R group. Pulmonary I/R injury rat models were established by 45 min of left hilar clipping followed by 180 min of reperfusion. Morphological changes in lung tissues were detected by HE staining. The wet-to-dry weight ratio of lung tissues was evaluated. Cytochrome C expression in lung tissues was assessed by immunohistochemical staining. TUNEL was used to determine apoptosis. Protein kinase C (PKC) activity in lung tissues was assessed by PepTag non-radioactive assay., Results: Compared with I/R group, the lung tissue morphology of the rats in the DE+I/R group was preserved well and the wet-to-dry weight ratio, expression of cytochrome C and apoptosis index decreased significantly (P < 0.05). The PKC activity in the lung tissues of the rats in the DE+ I/R group increased dramatically. Both pretreatment with 5-HD and CHE blocked the protective effect induced by DE preconditioning. There were no differences between 5-HD+PMA+I/R group and I/R group in the above indicators except for PKC activation. These results showed that blocking of mitochondrial ATP-sensitive potassium channel by 5-HD did not protect lung from ischemia reperfusion injury even though PKC were activated., Conclusion: Opening of mitochondrial ATP-sensitive potassium channel plays an essential protective role in pulmonary ischemia reperfusion injury. The pulmonary protection appears to be dependent on PKC activation.

Objective: To compare the protective effects of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) alone and TMP and L-arginine (TMP-LA) combination on rats with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and to explore its mechanism., Methods: The rat model of AMI was established by via caudal vein injection of pituitrin. Experimental animal groups of normal, model, TMP treated and TMP-LA (via abdominal cavity and caudal vein respectively) treated groups were established. Expression of P- and E-selectin, serum creatine phosphokinase (CK) and troponin T (TnT), and marrow peroxidase (MPO) concentration in myocardial tissue were determined by immunohistochemical stain., Results: As compared with the normal group, serum CK and TnT level, and MPO concentration in myocardial tissue were significantly higher in the model group (P < 0.01), with P- and E-selectin significantly up-regulated (P < 0.01). As compared with the model group, the above-mentioned parameters in the TMP or TMP-LA treated group was significantly lower (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Combined use of TMP and LA showed obvious synergism in treating AMI, by way of multi-link inhibition on expression of adhesive factors and decrease of leucocyte infiltration.
