OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 6 weeks of kettlebell training and kinesio taping applied to amateur baseball players on throwing velocity and isokinetic strength. METHODS The subjects of this study were 17 young men with more than 2 years of experience as amateur baseball players. To determine the effect of kettlebell training and kinesio training on throwing velocity and isokinetic strength, subject were divided into three group: kettlebell and kinesio taping, baseball training group (KTBG), kinesio taping group and baseball training (TBG), baseball training group (BG). Three groups trained three times a week for six weeks, and differences in shoulder isokinetic strength and throwing velocity were analyzes from pre to post training. RESULTS In the KTBG group, significant changes in the isokinetic muscle function of the shoulder joint were observed over time in both extensor strength (p=0.042) and flexor strength (p=0.017) at 60°/sec, as well as in extensor strength (p=0.028) and flexor strength (p=0.002) at 180°/sec. In the TBG group, only flexor strength at 180°/sec (p=0.020) showed significant changes. In the BG group, no significant changes were observed over time. The group interaction effect on isokinetic muscle function was not statistically significant. There were no significant changes in pitching velocity over time, and no group interaction was observed. CONCLUSIONS Therefore, a combination of 6 weeks of kettlebell training and Kinesio taping can improve the isokinetic extensor and flexor strength of the shoulder joint. Applying Kinesio taping during training can enhance the isokinetic extensor strength (180°/sec) of the shoulder joint. However, this exercise did not result in an increase in pitching velocity, and no interaction effect was observed, indicating the need for further research.

OBJECTIVES This study aimed to compare the functional movement screen (FMS) scores of baseball players according to their careers, for the purpose of injury prevention and healthcare programs. METHODS The study subjects were evaluated by measuring the differences in the seven fundamental movement patterns of FMS between groups according to their baseball career stages. The study included 27 college baseball players and 17 middle and high school baseball players, and analysis was conducted using STATA Version 15.0 (STATA Corp., College Station, TX, USA). This study aimed to investigate the influence of the use of yellow-tinted soft contact lenses on visual functions and batting performance among college baseball players. The subjects were 12 college baseball players (mean age 19.9±1.5 years, mean athletic career 10.0±1.9 years). The criteria used to measure visual function, which is important for playing baseball, were static visual acuity, kinetic visual acuity, dynamic visual acuity, depth perception, contrast sensitivity, and low-contrast visual acuity. Moreover, batting and bunt tests were performed to measure batting performance. Subjects measured these items with yellow-tinted and sport soft contact lenses in a random order on the same day. In terms of visual functions, there were no significant differences between the yellow-tinted and sport soft contact lenses. In addition, there were no significant differences in batting performance tests. Analysis of the subjective symptoms confirmed that the use of the yellow-tinted soft contact lenses improved symptoms, such as light aversion, better than the sport soft contact lenses in the majority of the subjects. Furthermore, none of the subjects experienced any adverse effects in batting performance from use in either the batting or bunt tests. Thus, it is suggested that the use of yellow-tinted soft contact lenses does not, at the very least, adversely affect the visual functions and batting performances in college baseball players. This study aimed to identify each angle of the shoulder complex, which consists of the glenohumeral joint, scapulothoracic joint, and thoracic joint, at the maximum external rotation (MER) of the shoulder complex during throwing in baseball players. The subjects were 19 collegiate baseball players. Throwing motion data was collected by three high-speed cameras and three-dimensional (3D) coordinates of the shoulder complex were established by the direct leaner translation method for the MER calculation. A 3D analysis was performed to obtain the external rotation (ER) angle of the glenohumeral joint, the posterior tilt angle of the scapula, and the extension angles of the thoracic at the MER of the shoulder complex. The mean (+ SD) value of the MER was 145.1±11.5°. The mean (±SD) values of the glenohumeral ER, the scapula posterior tilt angle and the thoracic extension angle at the MER were 107.2±15.8°, 22.9±13.8°, and 9.5±7.6°, respectively. The ER angle of the glenohumeral joint was just 107 degrees at the MER of the shoulder complex that apparently shows 145 degrees. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study is to examine the 180° rule that Burkhart proposed. The subjects are 166 baseball players. A total arc should be the total range of the highest motion; for smaller total arcs and for athletes who could not throw with full force, it turned out to be 180° and below. To provide professional baseball players with effective nutrition guidance, it is necessary to offer timely food servings and advice according to the yearly and daily schedules of the team. It is also important to educate them at a proper time while conforming what they want to know individually. We performed medical checks just after the end of the baseball season and discussed the scheme on health and nutrition management to prepare for the next season. Furthermore, we provided individual nutrition guidance by dividing them into three groups (dormitory inhabitants, singles and married) because eating habits and the extent of nutrient intake are different according to the dwelling circumstances of the players. For a qualified dietitian involved with professional baseball players, it is necessary to possess knowledge and technique not only to provide advice on foods and nutrition, but to maintain and coordinate their playing conditions.
