Myopia, especially high myopia, seriously affects the children and adolescents' quality of learning and life relating to a series of eye diseases. More and more studies show that the prevalence of high myopia in children and adolescents in China continues to rise, and gradually increases with age, showing a trend of younger age development. In this review, the existing literature was systematically reviewed to explore the differences in the prevalence of high myopia among people at different times, ages, and regions and understand the epidemiological status of high myopia in children and adolescents, so as to provide theoretical basis for further prevention and control of high myopia.

Due to factors such as medical resources, public awareness, funding for general screening, or optimized screening models, community-based screening is far from meeting the demand. Artificial intelligence (AI) can replace some of the medical work and combine it with the "Internet+" model to transfer medical resources to improve accessibility and availability. However, the application of AI technology to community-based screening still faces many challenges, such as most AI products cannot be directly applied to community-based screening, the inability to integrate multimodal information such as medical history, symptoms, and images, and the lack of relevant regulations and health policies for productization and implementation. Therefore, we suggest that the relevant departments take actions: (1) to build standardized big data sets, unlock data barriers, and accelerate the development and application of AI technology; (2) to train "AI+" medical staffs as soon as possible; (3) to establish relevant laws and regulations; (4) to establish relevant R&D plans and quality standards and regulatory frameworks for AI products; (5) to encourage more investment in medical AI infrastructure in the central and western regions and remote and poor areas.

Two adolescents with T1DM participated in the Shanghai Children and Adolescent DM Eye study (SCADE) 2017-2018. The previous T1DM history of the 2 children were 12 years and 4 years respectively. The history of optic atrophy were 8 years and 4 years respectively. The ophthalmic examination showed that there were slight posterior capsule cataract and atrophy of optic atrophy in both patients. Optical Coherance Tomographic examination showed that the choroidal thickness of the inferior inner ring of the optic nerve and RNFL layer thickness decreased markedly, perfusion density and vascular density of the optic disc area and macular decreased markedly, electrophysiological examination showed that amplitude decreased markedly, and visual field examination showed binocular extinction or tubular vision field. Now the 2 adolescents were in closely followed-up. We suggest that children with T1DM whose best corrected visual acuity decreased recently to 0.6 or lower, in addition to routine ophthalmic examination, choroidal thickness, retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, retinal blood flow, ERG and visual field examination are recommended to distinguish wolfram syndrome from T1DM. Genetic sequencing examination of WFS-1 is also recommended if possible.

Atropine is a classical drug with a wide use in clinical practice. In ophthalmology, atropine can be used for cycloplegia before optometry, and the treatment of amblyopia, iridocyclitis, malignant glaucoma, etc. In recent years, the "old drugs with new application " research and application of atropine for myopia prevention and control has become a hotspot and the efficacy of atropine has been preliminarily recognized. However, before the widely used in clinical, the safety of atropine draws attention. Researches concerning side effects of atropine were searched. The most common problem is photophobia due to dilated pupils, followed by poor near visual acuity, allergy and inflammation, local irritation. Other side effects include withdraw rebound, dry eyes, elevation of intraocular pressure, system reactions, photic damage and toxicity. Among them, some side effects are theoretical yet, and the long-term effects of some side reactions are not clear. Further research and exploration is needed to serve clinical evidence. At present, investigational usage for myopia prevention and control in clinical trials of atropine can be beneficial. Safety observation and efficacy evaluation are equally important in the course of application. ( Chin J Ophthalmol, 2021, 57: 299-304) .

Objective: To predict the prevalence of myopia among Chinese students aged 6-18 years under different intervention scenarios from 2021 to 2030. Methods: The multi-state Markov model was developed based on the transition process of study stages and myopia statuses. The development of myopia was simplified into two statuses: non-myopia and myopia. Students aged 6-18 years were also divided according to their study stages including senior kindergarten, primary school (from Grade 1 to 6), junior school (from Grade 1 to 3) and high school (from Grade 1 to 3). The parameters were extracted from the National Myopia Investigation in 2018 and published articles of cohort studies. The transition probability was applied to simulate the intervention scenarios, and sensitivity analysis was carried out. Results: The cumulative incidence of myopia among Chinese school-aged children and adolescents would increase consistently. It would be 91.3% (min to max: 83.7% to 96.7%) upon graduation from high school. Without any intervention, the myopia prevalence would increase to 61.8% (min to max: 55.4% to 69.5%) by 2030 among Chinese school-aged children and adolescents. And the myopia prevalence among students in primary schools, junior schools and high schools would be 45.6% (min to max: 40.2% to 54.3%), 81.3% (min to max: 72.6% to 91.0%) and 90.5% (min to max: 82.4% to 96.7%), respectively, all higher than the national target. If the interventions could achieve 70% of the desired effect, the myopia prevalence would be lower than the national target at each stage. Conclusions: Without effective interventions, the prevalence of myopia among students aged 6-18 years may keep increasing in the next ten years. If the interventions achieve the desired effect, the national target for myopia prevention and control could be reached. It is urgent to identify more effective interventions and call on the whole society to participate in the myopia prevention action to achieve the national goal by 2030. Objective: To determine the apoptotic effects of different chemotherapeutic agents on the retinoblastoma(RB) cell line HXO-RB44 and to establish a drug-induced apoptosis model of RB in vitro as the basis for further research on the mechanism of drug-induced apoptosis and spontaneous regression of RB., Methods: Twelve chemotherapeutic agents, including vincristine, cytarabin, methotrexate, cyclophosphamide, thiotepa, mitoxantrone, aclanomycin, pirarubicin, cisplatin, carboplatin, mitomycin, etoposide, of different concentration (10(-9), 10(-8), 10(-7), 10(-6), 10(-5), 10(-4) mol.L-1) were employed into HXO-RB44 cell line respectively for 24 hours, then apoptotic effects on it were decided by observing the DNA ladders on agarose gel electrophoresis. After that, one chemotherapeutic agent with the most evident DNA ladders was applied into HXO-RB44 cell line for 4, 8, 16, 24, 48 and 72 hours respectively, and the DNA ladders on agarose gel were also surveyed. Apoptotic cells were identified with transmission electron microscopy., Results: Typical DNA ladders were shown on agarose gel after HXO-RB44 cell line were exposed to 10(-6)-10(-5) mol.L-1 vincristine and 10(-5) mol.L-1 aclanomycin for 24 hours and the former were much clearer. No DNA ladders did emerge when the RB cells were treated by the rest ten chemotherapeutic agents. The DNA ladders began to appear when dealt with 10(-5) mol.L-1 vincristine for 8 hours, to be most obvious for 24 hours, and abated for 48 hours then disappeared for 72 hours. Amount of apoptotic RB cells were observed by transmission electron microscopy., Conclusion: Both vincristine and aclanomycin have the effect of inducing apoptosis on HXO-RB44 cell line, but that of vincristine is more forceful, which is time and concentration dependent. So vincritine is an ideal agent for establishing an apoptosis model of HXO-RB44 cell line.
