Objective: To explore the effect of simulated gas of thermobaric bomb charge explosion on cognitive function and the related mechanism of damage. Methods: In January 2022, thirty-two SPF rats were selected and randomly divided into control group, exposed group 1, 2 and 3 (the exposure time of the simulated gas of the explosion of the thermobaric bomb charge was 5 min, 10 min and 15 min, respectively) according to random number table method, with 8 rats in each group. The simulated gas of the explosion of the thermobaric bomb charge were CO 0.15%, CO(2) 3%, NO 0.1%, O(2) 15%, and the rest were N(2). After 30 days of exposure, water maze was used to detect the learning and memory function of rats. Golgi staining was used to observe the number distribution and morphological structure of hippocampal neurons in rats. Western blot was used to detect the expression of Tau-5, pSer262, pSer396, pThr181 and pThr231 proteins in rats. Repeated measure ANOVA was used to compare the design data of repeated measure, one-way ANOVA was used for multi-group mean comparison, and LSD method was used for pound-wise comparison. Results: There were significant differences in the results of repeated measurement ANOVA of the water maze localization navigation test ( F =80.98, P <0.001), and there was an interaction between the group and the training days ( F =2.16, P =0.022). There were significant differences in escape latency of rats at the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th days among all groups ( P <0.05). The results of spatial exploration showed that the frequency of rats crossing the platform was significantly different among all groups ( F =4.49, P =0.011). The frequency of rats crossing the platform in exposed group 2 and exposed group 3 was lower than that in control group, and the frequency of rats crossing the platform in exposed group 3 was lower than that in exposed group 1 ( P <0.05). With the increase of exposure time, the number of hippocampal neurons decreased, and the dendrite spine density of neurons in CA1 region decreased ( P <0.05). Compared with the control group, there was no significant difference in the relative expression level of Tau-5 protein in all exposed groups ( P >0.05), but the expression level of pSer262 protein was significantly increased ( P <0.05). Compared with the control group, the protein expressions of pSer396, pThr181 and pThr231 in exposed group 2 and exposed group 3 were significantly increased ( P <0.05) . Conclusion: The simulated gas of the explosion of the thermobaric bomb charge may contribute to the development of cognitive dysfunction by damaging hippocampal neurons with aberrant phosphorylation of Tau proteins.

No systematic research has been reported on the correlation between different ecological factors and the effective component content, flower, and leaf traits of Epimedium pubescens. In this study, 21 kinds of E. pubescens in different regions were investigated, and the content of two effective components of icariin(I) and Epimedin C(C), as well as six leaf traits and 12 flower traits were determined. The correlation between 11 ecological factors and the above traits in different regions for five consecutive years was explored. The results showed that no significant correlation was observed between the ecological factors and the total content of two effective components(I+C) of E. pubescens. Latitude and temperature(including annual average temperature, annual average minimum temperature, and soil temperature of each soil layer) were significantly positively and negatively correlated with the ratio of the content of the two effective components(C/I)(P&lt;0.01), respectively. There was a significant correlation between ecological factors and flower traits, and the annual average soil temperature of each soil layer, annual average temperature, and annual average minimum temperature were significantly correlated with most flower traits in multiple years(P&lt;0.01). However, a weak correlation between ecological factors and leaf traits was detected. A significant positive correlation of the annual average soil temperature of each soil layer and annual average humidity(P&lt;0.01) with the width of nutrient leaf in only a few years was detected. Therefore, it was concluded that the total content of effective components of E. pubescens was determined by genetics, with a slight influence of ecological factors. The annual average temperature, annual average minimum temperature, and soil temperature of each soil layer were the ecological factors that had the most significant impact on flower traits, which showed significant differences in different regions, and similar results were not found in leaf traits. Overall, this study systematically conducted a correlation analysis between ecological factors and the effective components, as well as flower and leaf traits, providing guidance for the quality improvement, introduction, and domestication of E. pubescens.

Objective: To explore the effect of nerve injury in rats by neurobehavioral experiments, in order to provide a model and idea for further clarification of the traumatic brain injury mechanism under explosion exposure. Methods: From May 2021 to August 2022, 160 SPF male rats were randomly divided into four groups, including control group, 60 kPa group (low intensity group), 90 kPa group (medium intensity group) and 120 kPa group (high intensity group). The blast induced traumatic brain injury (bTBI) model of rats was established by using the shock tube platform to simulate the shock wave parameters of the explosion overpressure of 60 kPa, 90 kPa and 120 kPa. Acute observation was carried out after 24 h and 7 d of explosive exposure, and chronic recovery observation was carried out after 28 d and 90 d. The time effect of shock wave brain injury in different situations was discussed by open field, light dark test, active avoidance test. Finally, the results of brain injury in rats were detected by pathological tissue staining. Results: After 24 h explosion exposure, compared with the control group, the rest time of rats in low and high intensity groups increased, the total movement distance decreased, and the number of visits to the camera obscura decreased, with statistical significance ( P <0.05). After 7 days of exposure, compared with the control group, the rest time of rats in high intensity group increased, and the number of visits to the obscura decreased, with statistical significance ( P <0.05). After 28 and 90 days of exposure, compared with the control group, there were no significant differences in rest time, total exercise distance and times of visiting the camera obscura in all intensity groups ( P >0.05). After 24 h of explosive exposure, compared with the control group, the cell morphology of rats in each intensity group was normal, and no inflammatory cell infiltration was observed. Conclusion: In the acute phase (24 h) of blast exposure, rats have no desire to explore the outside world, and shock wave exposure may damage the neurological function of rats.

Objective: To evaluate the value of the 2020 diagnostic criteria (Cellucci criteria) for pediatric autoimmune encephalitis (AE) in children with suspected AE in a single center. Methods: The clinical data of 121 children hospitalized at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from October 2019 to October 2021, with a diagnosis of suspected AE, were retrospectively collected and analyzed. The children were divided into definite antibody-positive AE (dAPAE), probable antibody-negative AE (prANAE), possible AE (pAE) and non-AE groups according to the Chinese expert consensus and the Graus criteria. A new diagnosis was made according to the Cellucci criteria which was compared with the clinical diagnosis to evaluate the diagnostic value of the Cellucci criteria. The Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and χ 2 test were used to compare the differences among groups. The sensitivity and specificity were used to evaluate efficacy of the Cellucci criteria. Results: Among the 121 children, 72 were males and 49 were females, with an age of 10.3 (6.5, 14.0) years at disease onset. There were 99 cases diagnosed as AE according the clinical diagnosis (58 males and 41 females), of which 43 cases were diagnosed as dAPAE, 14 cases as prANAE and 42 cases as pAE, and the other 22 cases were not AE (14 males and 8 females). The top 2 initial symptoms in the 99 children with AE were seizures (53 cases, 53.5%) and abnormal mental behaviors (35 cases, 35.4%). And the most common symptoms during the course of the disease were abnormal mental behaviors (77 cases, 77.8%) and seizures (64 cases, 64.6%). There were statistically differences in the incidence of consciousness disorders, autonomic dysfunctions during the course of the disease and the length of hospitalization among the 4 groups (χ 2 =21.63, 13.74, H =22.60, all P <0.05). Ninety-six of the 121 children were tested for AE-related antibodies, of which 45 cases (46.9%) were antibody-positive. According to the Cellucci criteria, 42 cases were diagnosed as dAPAE, 34 cases as prANAE and 14 cases as pAE. Compared with the clinical diagnosis, the sensitivity of the Cellucci criteria for the diagnosis of the 3 types of AE were 93.02%, 92.86% and 87.88%, and the specificity were 96.23%, 74.39% and 86.36%, respectively. Conclusions: The Cellucci criteria has a high sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of pAE and dAPAE in the clinical management of children with suspected AE, while a high sensitivity but low specificity for the diagnosis of prANAE. Therefore, it is recommended to apply the Cellucci criteria selectively in clinical practice according to the actual situation, especially in the diagnosis of prANAE.

Objective: To investigate the protective effect of edaravone on chlorpyrifos-induced neuronal apoptosis and its mitochondrial mechanism. Methods: Under the principle of randomization and double-blindness, the rats were divided into control group, chlorpyrifos group, and edaravone group ( n =6). The rats in edaravone group were treated with edaravone (10 mg/1.6 ml/kg, ip.) 1 h after chlorpyrifos injection. After continuous injection of chlorpyrifos and edaravone for 28 days, the learning and memory abilities of the rats were tested by open field and water maze tests. The rat brain tissue was collected after cardiac perfusion, and the neuronal damage in the hippocampus of the brain was detected by HE staining and the mitochondrial and nuclear damage were observed by transmission electron microscopy. The contents of Na + -K + -ATPase and ATP were measured to evaluate mitochondrial damage. The expression of mitochondrial fission protein DRP1 and phosphorylation at Ser 637 of DRP1 were determined by immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting. Results: Compared with the control group, the total movement distance and average speed of the rats in the chlorpyrifos group were decreased significantly within 3 minutes of the open field test ( P ＜0.01), and the escape latency within 1 minute of the water maze test was prolonged significantly. The number of platform crossings was reduced significantly ( P ＜0.01), the activity of ATPase in brain tissue was decreased significantly ( P ＜0.01) , the content of ATP and the phosphorylation level of Ser637 of mitochondrial DRP1 were decreased significantly ( P ＜0.05, P ＜0.01). After edaravone treatment, the total movement distance and average speed of rats in the open field test were increased ( P ＜0.05), the latency in the water maze test was decreased, and the number of crossing platforms was increased ( P ＜0.01), brain pathological sections showed that nerve cells were arranged neatly, nucleus and mitochondrial damage was significantly improved, the activity of ATPase in brain tissue was increased ( P ＜0.01), the levels of ATP and mitochondrial DRP1 Ser637 phosphorylation increased ( P ＜0.05, P ＜0.01). Conclusion: Edaravone alleviates chlorpyrifos-induced brain injury in rats by promoting the phosphorylation of DRP1 at Ser637.

Objective: To evaluated the potential developmental toxicity and teratogenicity of ammonium dinitroamide (ADN) by micromass test (MM Test) and embryonic stem cell test models. Methods: In September 2018, rat embryos were isolated and limb bud cells were collected. The limb bud cells were treated with different concentrations of ADN (0, 312.50, 625.00, 1250.00, 2500.00, 5000.00, 10000.00 μg/ml) . Half proliferation inhibitory concentration and half differentiation inhibitory concentration were calculated and the teratogenic effects were evaluated according to the criteria. For the embryonic stem cell test, the effects of different concentrations of ADN (0, 39.06, 78.13, 156.25, 312.50, 625.00, 1250.00, 2500.00 μg/ml) on the differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) into myocardial cells and the cytotoxicity of mESCs and 3T3 cells were detected. The embryonic toxicity was evaluated according to the criteria. In this study, both 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) , a known strong embryonic toxic drug, and penicillin-G (P-G) , a non-embryonic toxic drug, were used to verify the effectiveness of the model, and the validated test model was applied to evaluate the embryonic toxicity of ADN. Results: In the MM Test, the inhibition rates of proliferation and differentiation of limb bud cells in ADN groups were higher than that in control group ( P <0.05) . And the half proliferation inhibitory concentration and half differentiation inhibitory concentration of ADN on limb bud cells were 7480.32 and 4526.09 μg/ml, respectively. ADN was determined to be non-teratogenic by standard. In the embryonic stem cell test, the inhibition rates of mESCs proliferation in ADN groups were higher than that in control group, and the inhibition rates of 3T3 cells in 156.25, 312.50, 625.00, 1250.00, 2500.00 μg/ml ADN groups were higher than that in control group ( P <0.05) . The half proliferation inhibitory concentration and half differentiation inhibitory concentration of ADN on mESCs were 1851.73 and 1796.39 μg/ml, respectively, and the half proliferation inhibitory concentration on 3T3 cells was 3334.35 μg/ml. ADN was determined to be non-embryotoxic by standard. Conclusion: After evaluation by MM Test and embryonic stem cell models, ADN has no embryo toxicity and is a non-teratogenic substance.

Objective: To analyze the academic thought, medication experience and prescription rules of Academician Wang Qi in the treatment of premature ejaculation (PE) using the TCM inheritance support platform (V2.5)., Methods: We collected and sorted out the medical records on the treatment of PE from Academician Wang Qi's Clinic. We established a database of medical records on the TCM inheritance support platform, analyzed the drugs and prescriptions in the database and explored new prescriptions using "statistical reports" and "data analysis" systems on the platform., Results: A total of 91 effective prescriptions were recorded, involving 148 TCM drugs, with Phellodendron, Amomum Villosum, Polygala Tenuifolia, Tuckahoe, Lodestone, Oyster, Acanthopanax Senticosus, Uncaria, Tribulus, and Keel as the top 10 with the highest frequency of use, which were featured mainly by "warm" and "cold" concerning the four natures, "sweet", "bitter" and "pungent" relating to the five flavors, and acting on "kidney meridian", "liver meridian" and "heart meridian" in terms of the meridian tropisms. In addition, 5 new prescriptions were obtained through unsupervised entropy hierarchical clustering., Conclusions: In the treatment of PE, Academician Wang Qi employs tranquilizing the mind and consolidating the kidney (An Zhi Gu Shen) as the primary strategy, taking into account the three organs of heart, liver and kidneys, focusing on the phase of calming the mind or regulating the liver or clearing the kidney or controlling fire, and adding or reducing drugs according to different conditions and syndromes, which conforms to his diagnosis and treatment mode of "body differentiation－disease differentiation－syndrome differentiation". The analysis of the potential new prescriptions also accords with Academician Wang Qi's rules of medication, which can provide some ideas for the clinical treatment of and scientific researches on premature ejaculation in the future.

In recent years, microplastics (MPs), a new type of pollutant, have been widely dispersed in aquatic ecosystems. Compared with typical MPs (PVC, PP, PE, and PS), tire wear particles (TWP) exhibit significant differences in composition, additives, and characteristics. In this study, the adsorption and desorption of organic pollutants were compared between the typical MPs and TWP. With TWP and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) particles as adsorbents, oxytetracycline (OTC) and sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) as adsorbates, the adsorption and desorption of organic pollutants by TWP and PVC particles before and after aging were studied. Correctly understanding the behavior of MPs in an aquatic environment is of great significance. The results indicated that during the UV aging process, both TWP and PVC exhibited cracks, pits, and bulges on the particle surface, increased specific surface areas, increased strength of oxygen-containing functional groups, and enhanced hydrophilicity. The adsorption modes of TWP and PVC before and after aging were in two stages:surface adsorption and liquid film diffusion. TWP has a better fit for the Freundlich model, belonging to multi-layer adsorption, while PVC has a better fit for the Langmuir model, belonging to monolayer adsorption. The carrier effect of TWP on antibiotics was better than that of PVC, with the adsorption capacity of OTC on virgin TWP and PVC reaching 5.14 mg·g -1 and 1.38 mg·g -1 , respectively. Additionally, the adsorption capacity of OTC on the aged TWP and PVC reached 5.82 mg·g -1 and 2.13 mg·g -1 , respectively, which was better than with the virgin samples. The desorption capacity of aged TWP and PVC for antibiotics was better than the virgin materials, while the desorption rate was lower. In the same desorption solution, the desorption effect of TWP on antibiotics before and after ageing was better than that of PVC. The desorption effect of TWP and PVC on antibiotics in a simulated intestinal fluid environment was significantly better than that in an ultra-pure water environment.

Objective: To analyze the medication rules for oligoasthenozoospermia (OAZ) observed by Wang Qi, an academician, master of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and initiator of andrology in TCM., Methods: We collected the outpatient cases of OAZ treated by Wang Qi and established a database of clinical medical records using the TCM Inheritance Auxiliary Platform. Employing the integrated rule-based system for analysis of the software, we modified the mutual information method, complex system entropy clustering analysis and other data mining methods, and summarized the medication rules Wang Qi followed in the treatment of OAZ., Results: A total of 134 prescriptions made by Wang Qi for the treatment of OAZ were collected, involving 110 TCM drugs, which are mainly neutral and warm in nature and taste sweet and mostly act through the liver and kidney meridians. The core formula ingredients of the prescriptions included Morinda officinalis, Cuscuta chinensis, Lycium barbarum, Mulberry, Angelica sinensis, Astragalus mongholicus and Fish Maw, and most frequently Morinda officinalis, Cuscuta chinensis, Lycium barbarum and Mulberry., Conclusions: Wang Qi holds that kidney deficiency, dampness-heat, blood stasis and toxin are the main pathogenic factors for OAZ. The basic treatment of OAZ is to invigorate the kidney and replenish the essence, and meanwhile activate blood circulation, dissipate stasis and eliminate dampness-heat.

Objective: To examine the results of surgical treatment for endograft infection after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEAVR). Methods: Clinical data of 7 patients underwent surgical treatment for endograft infection after TEAVR at Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Changhai Hospital, the Navy Medical University between January 2016 and December 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. There were 6 males and 1 female, aging (51.5±16.7) years (range: 25 to 68 years). The origin of the aortic disease was descending aortic aneurysm in 5 cases, and Stanford B aortic dissection in 2 cases. Abdominal aorta below the level of the diaphragm was not involved in all patients. Two patients received "chimney technology" for left subclavian artery procedures. Time to infection was 5(3) months ( M ( Q(R) )) (range: 1 to 24 months). Aortic endograft infection was diagnosed with a combination of microbiology (positive blood cultures, except one with mycotic), radiological evidence and clinical evidence of sepsis. Two patients suffered from aorto-esophageal fistula received emergency surgery, others were treated with elective surgery. Extra-anatomic prosthetic graft bypass was used for reconstruction of aorta, infected endogarft and aorta was removed, sac drainage was performed. Aorto-esophageal fistula was procedured according to the degree of lesions. All patients received antibiotics with specialist advice for 6 to 8 weeks. Results: One patient died due to septic shock. In the follow-time (range: 6 to 24 months), 1 patient suffered from thoracic infection in 3 months after surgery, an other patient got iliac abscess after a month. Conclusions: Endograft infection after TEAVR is high risk but may be curative. Appropriate selection of patients for infected endograft explantation could get a satisfied results.

The PK-PD correlation models by using pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics were applied to study the material basis of Naomaitong,a clinical empirical prescription for the treatment of cerebral apoplexy,in inhibiting the death of PC12 nerve cells induced by Na&#95;2S&#95;2O&#95;4 and Glu. In this experiment,PC12 cell death models induced by Na&#95;2S&#95;2O&#95;4 and Glu were established respectively.With LDH lateral leakage and NO content as pharmacodynamic indexes,PK-PD model was established by SVM algorithm to evaluate the effective components of Naomaitong in inhibiting neural cell death. The results showed that the positive correlation of emodin methyl ether-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside,aloe emodin,chrysophanol,rhein,emodin,ginsenoside Rg1,ginsenoside Rc,3'-methoxypuerarin and ligustilide was significant,obviously improving the LDH release and NO content. The results indicated that the contribution of Radix Puerariae Lobatae Radix and Rhei Radix et Rhizoma in Naomaitong could protect the nerve cell death induced by Na&#95;2S&#95;2O&#95;4 and Glu respectively. PK-PD model was used to screen the neuroprotective components in Naomaitong,revealing the possible pharmacodynamic material basis of Naomaitong in the treatment of cerebral ischemia injury.

Objective: To investigate the current situation of exposure of solid particles in medical staff and the occurrence of related diseases, and to understand the distribution characteristics of occupational exposure and the influencing factors. Methods: In August 2016, the stratified cluster sampling method was adopted to select three tertiary general hospitals with different regions, different administrative levels and departments in Shandong Province. A face-to-face questionnaire survey was conducted on the basic situation of the staff of the hospital, the status of exposure to occupational hazards and the health effects. Two-class logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the relationship between medical staff's solid particle contact and occupational health effects. In August 2016, the stratified cluster sampling method was adopted to select three tertiary general hospitals with different regions, different administrative levels and departments in Shandong Province, which were in contact with the basic conditions and occupational hazards of the staff of the hospital. Current situation and health impacts were conducted face-to-face questionnaires. Two-class logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the relationship between medical staff's solid particle contact and occupational health effects. Results: The overall contact rate of solid particles of medical staff was 41.5% (1843/4 446) , and the solid particles with the highest contact rate were 28.2% (1254/4 446) of talc dust. There was a statistically significant difference in the contact rate of solid particles between medical staff of different occupations, current working age, education and hospital type (χ(2)=76.30, 41.26, 26.16, 188.97, P <0.05) . There were significant differences in the conditions and types of solid particles in different departments (χ(2)=740.23, P <0.05) . Compared with the control group, the incidence of allergic asthma, chronic tracheobronchitis and dermatitis was higher in the contact group medical staff ( P <0.05) . Contact with zirconia dust, talc dust, cotton dust is a risk factor for dermatitis in medical staff ( OR =2.09, 1.45, 1.34) ; exposure to zirconia dust and cotton dust is a risk factor for chronic tracheobronchitis in medical staff ( OR =2.38, 1.66) ; exposure to zirconia dust, gypsum dust is a risk factor for allergic asthma in medical staff ( OR =3.90, 1.52) . Conclusion: The contact rate of solid particles in medical staff is high, and there are many types of contact. Frequent contacted with solid particles is a dangerous cause of related diseases. The working environment of medical staff should be further monitored and be strengthen the targeted protective measures and regulatory systems for the exposure of medical personnel to solid particles.

Heavy pollution events frequently occur during fall and winter seasons in northern areas. In order to understand the characteristics and chemical composition of PM 2.5 during heavy pollution in winter in Liaocheng City, ambient PM 2.5 samples were collected between January 7-11,2016. Mass concentration, water-soluble ions, carbonaceous species, and elements were analyzed, as well as the causes of pollution. Results showed that PM 2.5 mass concentration was 238.3 μg·m -3 with the trend clearly that of an inverted V; this concentration represents exceedance of the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (GB 3095-2012) by more than 2.2 times. NO 3 - , SO 4 2- , and NH 4 + (SNA)were the main water-soluble ions. As pollution increased or decreased, NH 4 + , SO 4 2- , NO 3 - , and Cl - exhibited the same trend, which contrasted with that of Ca 2+ . During the peak of pollution, NH 4 + , NO 3 - , and SO 4 2- concentrations were 48.96, 68.45, and 80.55 μg·m -3 , with these representing levels 6.29, 7.31, and 7.84 times those of the initial stage, respectively. During the pollution event, OC and EC concentration variation ranges were 20.8-60.2 μg·m -3 , and 3.0-7.5 μg·m -3 , respectively. The concentration of OC was significantly higher than that of EC and the variation amplitude was significantly larger. During the event, the mass concentrations of 27 inorganic elements on each day were 10.2, 22.4, 16.0, 19.6, and 8.2 μg·m -3 , respectively. Enrichment factors (EF) of all elements were less than 10, indicating lack of enrichment and showing that sources were mainly natural. PM 2.5 mass concentration reconstruction results showed that organic matter (OM), SO 4 2- , and NO 3 - were major components, followed by NH 4 + , crustal material, and other ions. EC and trace element content was relatively low. As PM 2.5 pollution worsened, secondary inorganic salt (NH 4 + , SO 4 2- , NO 3 - ) concentrations and proportions increased, OM concentration increased but its proportion decreased, while crustal material concentration and proportion both decreased, showing that secondary inorganic conversion was the main cause of this pollution event, mainly driven by coal and motor vehicle emissions.

Objective: To understand the prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in children aged 0-6 years old and influencing factors in Hainan province. Methods: A total of 37 862 children aged 0-6 years were selected from 18 counties in Hainan province for a screening by using questionnaire of"warning signs in child development", then field diagnosis was made, and general descriptive statistic analysis was conducted. The prevalence of ASD and related factors were analyzed with χ (2) test and unconditional logistic regression model. Results: Among 37 862 children aged 0-6 years, 235 were diagnosed with ASD, the prevalence of ASD was 0.62 % (0.99 % in boys, 0.17 % in girls), the differences was significant ( χ (2)=101.91, P =0.000). The prevalence of ASD increased with age ( χ (2)=288.62, P =0.000). The prevalence of ASD was significantly higher in urban area than in other areas ( χ (2)=114.77, P =0.000). Factors such as full term pregnancy or not, neonatal asphyxia, father's characteristics, father's habit of chewing areca or smoking, mother's general mood, and mother's induced abortion history were the influencing factors for ASD. Conclusion: The prevalence of ASD in children aged 0-6 years was high in Hainan and was influenced by genetic factors, pregnancy and delivery process, parents unhealthy habit before and during pregnancy and other factors.

Liver fibrosis in schistosomiasis is a serious pathological consequence from immune reactions to schistosome infection. The progression of liver fibrosis depends on the state of immune response. Recent studies have found that Th17 and Treg cells are two subsets of CD4+T cells. The Th17 cells are mainly involved in inflammatory responses, while the Treg cells mainly mediate downregulation of the responses. Under normal conditions, the differentiations of the two subsets are inhibited by each other, and they function oppositely. The balance between Th17 and Treg cells, as well as the balance between them, play an important role in the maintenance of homeostasis and are involved in inflammatory responses, tissue trauma, fibrosis and development of many diseases. This paper reviews the role of Th17/Treg cells and their imbalance in liver fibrosis in schistosomiasis.

Objective: To study the change in serum intestinal fatty acid binding protein (IFABP) in children with pneumonia and its correlation with gastrointestinal injury., Methods: A total of 82 children with community-acquired pneumonia who were treated from January to October, 2015 were enrolled, among whom 34 had mild pneumonia and 48 had severe pneumonia. According to pediatric critical illness score (PCIS), the children with severe pneumonia were further divided into non-critical group (25 patients) and critical group (23 patients). Thirty healthy children who underwent physical examination at outpatient service were enrolled as the control group. ELISA was used to measure serum IFABP level, and the acute gastrointestinal injury (AGI) grade was determined for children with severe pneumonia. Serum IFABP level was compared between groups, and the correlations of IFABP with AGI grade and PCIS were analyzed., Results: The severe pneumonia group showed a significantly higher serum IFABP level than the control group and the mild pneumonia group (P<0.01), and the mild pneumonia group also showed a significantly higher serum IFABP level than the control group (P<0.01). The critical group showed a significantly higher serum IFABP level than the non-critical group (P<0.01). The patients with grade I-IV AGI had significantly higher serum IFABP levels than the control group (P<0.01), and the serum IFABP level increased significantly with the increasing AGI grade (P<0.01). Serum IFABP level was positively correlated with AGI grade (P<0.01) but negatively correlated with PCIS (P<0.01)., Conclusions: Children with pneumonia experience an increased serum IFABP level which can be used as a sensitive indicator for the early diagnosis of gastrointestinal injury and the evaluation of conditions in children with pneumonia.

A field plot trial was conducted at Songbai Village, Chenzhou, Hunan Province to exa-mine the effects of alkaline fertilizer with and without combination application of bacterial regent on cadmium accumulation in rice and paddy soil. Compared with the conventional fertilizer, the alkaline fertilizer reduced the available cadmium content in soil at the tillering, filling and the harvest stages by 8.3%, 6.7% and 16.4% respectively. Compared with the Cd content in soil before transplanting, it was reduced by 7.2% at harvest time in alkaline fertilizer treatment, while increased by 11.0% in the conventional fertilizer treatment. The available cadmium content in soil was increased by 1.2% to 23.3% by bacterial regent. Compared with the conventional fertilizer, the cadmium content of root, stem sheath, leaf, grain and brown rice of the alkaline fertilizer treatment reduced by 54.9%, 56.6%, 41.8%, 62.7% and 67.6% respectively. The alkaline fertilizer treatment combined with bacterial regent increased the cadmium content of brown rice by 63.2%. It was concluded that the alkaline fertilizer could significantly reduce the available cadmium content in both soil and the different organs of the rice, however, when it was combined with bacterial regent together, the effect of alkaline fertilizer to reduce Cd content of brown rice would be declined.

Objective: To investigate the clinical features of Wilson's disease (WD) for the purpose of avoiding misdiagnosis and therefore improving the prognosis of this rare disease., Methods: This study enrolled all the patients diagnosed as WD who were admitted to West China Hospital, Sichuan University from Jan 2008 to Dec 2014. Their clinical manifestations, head and abdominal images data were extracted and analyzed., Results: There were a total of 126 patients of WD, male female ratio was 75 : 51, median age was 21-years old. 10.3% (13/126) of them had family history, 87.3% (109/126) patients presented with neuropsychiatric symptoms, 14.3% (18/126) patients manifested as chronic liver disease. All patients had decreased serum ceruloplasmin level < 200 mg/L, 121 (96.9%) patients had serum ceruloplasmin level < 100 mg/L. Magnetic resonance imaging and abdominal ultrasound detected structural abnormalities in 92.7% (102/110) and 88.9% (97/109) patients respectively. Kayser-Fleischer rings on slit-lamp ophthalmologic examination was found in 98.3% (115/117) patients. One patient underwent liver biopsy and the result of rhodanine stain was positive. The time from onset to diagnosis varied from 3 d to 19 years [(1.59 ± 2.66) years]. 20 (15.9%) patients were initially misdiagnosed., Conclusion: The patients presenting with neurological signs or unexplained liver disease should be assessed carefully for WD. Serum ceruloplasmin, 24-h urinary copper, Kayser-Fleischer rings and sometimes even liver biopsy could be helpful for the diagnosis.

Schistosomiasis is a chronic helminthic disease that affects about two hundred millions of people in the world. The pathogenesis of schistosome infection is primarily due to hepatic and intestinal granuloma formation around deposited eggs and subsequent fibrosis. It is known that CD4⁺ T cell subsets play critical roles in the host immunity and immunopathogenesis to schistosome infections, in which T helper 1 (Th1) and Th2 cells are major effector T cell subsets, whereas T regulatory (Treg) cells exert immunosuppressive roles in general. The recently discovered Th17 cells are also actively involved in the immune responses to the infection. During the infection, these T cell subsets cross-talk and exhibit different kinetics and roles in the control and regulation of infection progress and fibrosis. This review summarizes current findings of Th1, Th2, Th17 and Treg cells and their effector cytokines in schistosome infection.

Batch experiments were conducted to analyze the effects of pretreatment conditions, inoculum-substrate ratio (ISR) and initial pH on the hydrogen and volatile fatty acid (VFA) production from anaerobic digestion of Macrocystis pyrifera biomass. The results indicated that M. pyrifera could produce hydrogen and VFA simultaneously. In addition, thermo-alkaline pretreatment was proved as the best method for hydrogen and VFA production. The optimal pretreatment conditions, ISR, initial pH value were determined as thermal-alkaline pretreatment at 100 degrees C with 4 g x L(-1) NaOH, 0.3 and 6, respectively. Under these conditions, the maximum hydrogen production was 36.21 mL x g(-1) per unit volatile solids, which resulted in 77.82% improvement compared with the yield from untreated M. pyrifera. Furthermore, the TVFA yield under the optimal conditions was found to be 0.15 g x g(-1) per unit volatile solids and the VFAs mainly consisted of acetate and butvrate

In the present research, a novel method for quantitative analysis of multi-elements (Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, K and Na) in aquatic feed was established by using microwave plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (MP-AES) technology. The sample was pretreated by traditional dry ashing method, and then a series of methodological study experiments, such as the detection limit, the spiked recovery, the precision measurement, the method comparison with AAS and ICP-AES, the standard substance confirmation and so on, were accomplished by MP-AES. The instrument parameters of MP-AES were optimized. In the optimal con- ditions, the linear calibration curve was established for each element, and the linear regression correlation coefficient was more than 0. 999. The limit of detection (LOD) was between 0. 4 and 3. 9 mg . kg-1. The spiked recovery was between 103% and 112%. The relative standard deviation of precision measurement was between 0. 2% and 0. 6%. In the method comparison, the one way ANOVA statistical analysis yielded the p value between 0. 065 and 0. 438, which were greater than 0. 05, there was no statistically significant difference among MP-AES, AAS and ICP-AES. The FAPAS 10102 dairy ration test material and the national standard substances (GBW07602) were prepared for method confirmation in this study, and the measured values were in good agreement with the certified values. Compared with the commercial ICP-AES which typically uses argon as the plasma gas, the MP-AES relies on using nitrogen as the plasma gas, which may provide a more economical alternative to traditional ICP-AES for routine analysis in feed analytical laboratories. The established method was simple, fast, reproducible and accurate, and it was an ideal analysis technique to substitute AAS and ICP-AES for the determination of multi-elements in aquatic feed.

Methanogens play an important role in marine sediments, which are related to methane production and methane hydrate deposits. Methanogenic activity of marine gas field sediments was investigated using substrates that methanogens usually used as carbon sources. H2/CO2, methanol, methylamines and trimethylamines could support the growth and methane production of gas field sediments. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that the predominant methanogens in the enrichment cultures were related to known cultured methanogens in the family Methanosarcinaceae of the order Methanosarcinales and the family Methanomicrobiales of the order Methanomicrobiales, with genera Methanococcoides, Methanogenium and Methanosarcina as major methanogens.

Objective: To determine the distribution and sequence conservation of outer membrane protein X(ompX)gene in Salmonella paratyphi A isolates as well as the immunogenicity and immuno-protection of ompX gene products., Methods: OmpX gene in Salmonella paratyphi A isolates was detected by PCR and the amplification products were sequenced after the T-A cloning process. OmpX gene product was expressed with E. coli expression system and the expressed rOmpX was extracted by Ni-NTA affinity chromatography. SDS-PAGE and Bio-Rad Gel Image Analyzer were applied to examine the expression and yield of rOmpX. Both antigenicity and immune-reactivity of rOmpX were detected by immune-diffusion test, ELISA and Western blot assay. The immunoprotective effect of rOmpX against infection of Salmonella paratyphi in mice was determined and the agglutinative titers of sera from rOmpX-immunized mice was measured by micro-Widal's test., Results: All the tested Salmonella paratyphi A isolates had ompX gene with high nucleotide or amino acid sequence identity (99.2%-100.0% or 98.4%-100.0%). When rOmpX was induced to rabbits to produce high level antibody and combined with antiserum against whole cell of Salmonella paratyphi A, the results displayed a positive Western hybridization signal. Results from ELISA demonstrated that 95.6% (65/68) of the serum samples from paratyphoid-A patients were positive on rOmpX antibody. Mice that were immunized with 100 µg or 200 µg rOmpX displayed an immune-protective rate of 93.3% (14/15) or 100.0% (15/15). Sera from those rOmpX-immunized mice provided 1 : 10-1 : 40 agglutination titers in both H antigens of Salmonella paratyphi A and Salmonella typhi., Conclusion: The recombinant expression product of ompX gene could be used as a candidate antigen for developing genetic engineering vaccines against Salmonella paratyphi A infection.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between mRNA expression of manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) and manganese neurotoxicity., Methods: Thirty-one patients with occupational chronic manganese poisoning (case group), as well as 31 controls exposed to the same condition (control group), were included in the study. Whole blood RNA was extracted, and the mRNA expression of MnSOD was measured by RT-PCR; the two groups were compared in terms of the mRNA expression of MnSOD. PC12 cells were treated with 0, 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1000 ümol/L MnCl₂ for l, 2, 3, and 4 d; the cell viability was determined by MTT assay, and the mRNA expression of MnSOD was measured by RT-PCR., Results: The case group had significantly lower mRNA expression of MnSOD than the control group (0.390 ± 0.080 vs 0.582 ± 0.219, P < 0.05). MnCl2 had a toxic effect on PC12 cells; the concentration of MnCl₂ was positively correlated with the toxic effect but negatively correlated with the mRNA expression of MnSOD., Conclusion: MnSOD mRNA may be involved in the manganese-induced damage of nerve cells. It is hypothesized that high mRNA expression of MnSOD may play an inhibitory effect on manganese neurotoxicity.

Capsule restricts the further study on muscle spindle function and the involved mechanism. The aim of this study was to establish the isolation method of intrafusal fibres from the isolated rat muscle spindle. Intrafusal fibres were harvested from muscle spindle of soleus muscle in rats using neutrase-collagenase digestion. A variety of incubation mediums have been tested to find out an appropriate medium of intrafusal fibers in vitro. Trypan blue staining was used to detect cell death, and patch clamp was used to record resting potential. The results showed that the intrafusal fibres incubated with amine acid-saline solution were almost all dead. DMEM could maintain good condition of the fibres, but excess CO2 ventilation would induce cellular swelling or even death. While Leiboviz's 15 (L-15) medium can guarantee 1-2 h of physiological condition of the intrafusal fibres. Coverslips treated with gelatin, polylysine and serum was the better interfaces for the intrafusal fibres to adhere easily, compared with regularly treated coverslip. The resting potential of intrafusal fibres was (-45.3 ± 5.1) mV, consistent with others obtained from in vivo muscle spindle from cats and frogs. These results suggest that the isolation method of the intrafusal fibres has been successfully established in the present study, providing a new approach in better understanding of muscle spindle activities and the involved mechanism.

Methanogenic corn stalk degrading enrichment cultures were constructed using corn stalk as the sole carbon source and eight types of environmental samples as inocula. All the cultures could degrade corn stalk within 30-50 days and the total solids (TS) removal rates were in the range of 30%-40%. In six out of eight cultures, the cumulative methane yields per gram TS were 62.1-118.4 mL x g(-1), with acetate, propionate and butyrate as the major volatile fatty acids (100-500 mg x L(-1)), and the final pH were 6.5-6.7. In the other two cultures, the cumulative methane yields per gram TS were 8.5-9.7 mL xg(-1), while the concentrations of acetate were high (1200 mg x L(-1)), and the final pH were low (5.6-5.9). The bacterial and archaeal structures in eight enrichments were investigated with a 16S rRNA genes-based clone library method. Clones belonging to the bacterial phyla Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Synergistetes and Thermotogae were observed in abundance within the bacterial clone libraries, which accounted for 37.8%, 34.3%, 11.6% and 6.4% of the total number of bacterial clones, respectively. Within the domain Archaea, clones affiliated with the classes Methanomicrobia and Methanobacteria were found to be abundant in the archaeal clone libraries, which accounted for 61.1% and 38.9% of the total number of archaeal clones, respectively.

One of the most important and urgent issues in the field of space medicine is to reveal the potential mechanism underlying the disused muscle atrophy during the weightlessness or microgravity environment. It will conduce to find out effective methods for the prevention and treatment of muscle atrophy during a long-term space flight. Increasing data show that muscle spindle discharges are significantly altered following the hindlimb unloading, suggesting a vital role in the progress of muscle atrophy. In the last decades, we have made a series of studies on changes in the morphological structure and function of muscle spindle following simulated weightlessness. This review will discuss our main results and related researches for understanding of muscle spindle activities during microgravity environment, which may provide a theoretic basis for effective prevention and treatment of muscle atrophy induced by weightlessness.

Under the conditions of applying water soluble fertilizer and its bulk blending with controlled release fertilizer (BB-CRF), and by using micro-lysimeter, this paper quantitatively studied the nitrogen (N) uptake by mustard, the soil N losses from N2O emission, leaching and others, and the N residual in soil in three rotations of continuously cropped mustard. In the treatment of BB-CRF with 25% of controlled release nitrogen, the N uptake by mustard increased with rotations, and the yield by the end of the experiment was significantly higher than that in the treatment of water soluble fertilizer. The cumulated N2O emission loss and the N leaching loss were obviously higher in treatment water soluble fertilizer than in treatment BB-CRF. NO3(-)-N was the primary form of N in the leachate. In relative to water soluble fertilizer, BB-CRF altered the fates of fertilizer nitrogen, i.e., the N uptake by mustard and the N residual in soil increased by 75.4% and 76.0%, and the N leaching loss and other apparent N losses decreased by 27.1% and 66.3%, respectively. The application of BB-CRF could be an effective way to reduce the various losses of fertilizer N while increase the fertilizer N use efficiency, and the controlled release fertilizer is the environmentally friendly fertilizer with the property of high N use efficiency.

Objective: To investigate the effects of 100 Hz sinusoidal vibration on H reflex and M wave in rat soleus muscle following immobilization., Methods: The immobilization of rat soleus muscle was induced as a disuse muscle model, and 100 Hz sinusoidal vibration was generated by a vibrator and applied to the immobilized soleus muscle, then the changes of H reflex and M wave in muscle were observed after 14 d., Results: Compared to control, after 14 d of immobilization M(max) in soleus muscle decreased (P<0.01), stimulus threshold and S(max) increased (P<0.01); Hmax and H(max)/M(max) decreased (P<0.05, S(max) increased (P<0.05). Compared to immobilized soleus muscle, after 14 d of immobilization with 100 Hz sinusoidal vibration, the M(max) increased(P<0.01), stimulus threshold and S(Mmax) decreased (P<0.05), H(max) (P<0.01) increased and H(max)/M(max) increased (P<0.05)., Conclusion: 100 Hz sinusoidal vibration plays a significant antagonist role against the changes in H reflex and M wave in rat soleus muscle following immobilization.

Static closed chamber technique and contrast method were adopted to study the effects of three coated compound fertilizers (N:P2O5:K2O = 19:8.6:10.5, high N; 14.4:14.4:14.4, balanced NPK; and 12.5:9.6:20.2, high K) on the NO2O emission from a lateritic red soil under the condition of no crop planting, taking uncoated compound fertilizers (N:P2O5:K2O = 20:9:11, high N; 15:15:15, balanced NPK; and 13:10:21, high K) as the contrasts. Different formula of fertilizer NPK induced significant difference in the N2O emission. Under the application of uncoated compound fertilizers, the cumulative N2O emission was in the order of balanced NPK > or = high N > high K. Applying coated compound fertilizers decreased the N2O emission significantly, and the emission amount under the application of high N, balanced NPK, and high K was 34.4%, 30.5%, and 89.3% of the corresponding uncoated compound fertilizers, respectively. Comparing with the application of uncoated compound fertilizers, applying coated compound fertilizers also decreased the daily N2O flux significantly, and delayed and shortened the N2O peak, suggesting that coated fertilizers could reduce soil nitrogen loss and the global warming potential induced by N2O emission.

The aim of this study was to observe the electrophysiological characteristics of the isolated rat muscle spindle. The muscle spindle was isolated from rat soleus and the afferent discharge of the isolated muscle spindle was recorded by air-gap technique. In the basic physiological salt solution, the spontaneous impulses of muscle spindle were at a lower level with irregular intervals. The mean frequency of afferents was (51.78 ± 25.63) impulses/1 000 s (n = 13). The muscle spindle afferents were significantly increased and maintained over time by the addition of certain amino acids during the observation. The number of the action potential recorded per 1 000 s was 200-1 000 [mean: (687.62 ± 312.56) impulses/1 000 s, n = 17]. In addition to the typical propagated action potential, a large number of abortive spikes were observed. The results indicate that the activities of isolated muscle spindles in rats can be well maintained by the addition of certain amino acids. The results initially establish and provide the possibility for further research conducted in isolated rat muscle spindles.

Objective: To study the diagnostic value of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody (anti-CCP) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of metacarpophalangeal joints (MCP) and wrist in early rheumatoid arthritis (RA)., Methods: MRI of MCP and wrist joint, laboratory indices of anti-CCP and rheumatic factor (RF) were performed and recorded in the 94 early-stage RA patients, 24 non-typical monoarthritis and 35 other arthritis. The MRI findings and OMERACT (outcome measures in rheumatoid arthritis clinical trials) score were analyzed in comparison with their clinical and laboratory indices., Results: The sensitivity of anti-CCP, synovitis, bone erosion and bone erosion was 55.3%, 100%, 25.5% and 88.3% respectively in early-stage RA patients. The specificity was 88.6%, 71.4%, 94.3% and 65.7% respectively. There was significant difference between early-stage RA group and other arthritis group (P < 0.05). Bone erosion was found to be the most specific among MRI findings. And bone erosion of wrist joint had a positive correlation with anti-CCP. MRI was a more efficient supplemental modality in diagnosing early-stage RA as compared with conventional radiological films. Among 94 early-stage RA, their MRI findings and OMERACT scores of wrist joint appeared more obvious., Conclusion: Anti-CCP has a better specificity for early-stage RA than RF. But MRI may visualize the disorder of RA earlier while it is often missed by radiological films. Both have prominent diagnostic values in early RA patients. Bone erosion of wrist joint has a positive correlation with anti-CCP. MRI may help to differentiate those RA patients with negative anti-CCP.

Objective: To study the learning and memory ability, expressions of hippocampal N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA) subunit NR2A and NR2B, and EphB2 receptor in fatigue rats, and to observe effects of Sini Powder, Shenghui Decoction, and Sihui Mixture on them., Methods: The central nervous system fatigue model was duplicated by paradoxical sleep deprivation for 168 h using multiple platform method. Experimental rats were randomly divided into the normal control group, the model group, the Sini Powder group, and the Shenghui Decoction group, ten in each. Corresponding medicines and distilled water were given to them by gastrogavage at 6, 30, 54, 78, 102, 126, and 150 h after sleep deprivation. Changes of the learning and memory ability were observed using Y maze. mRNA expressions of NMDA subunit NR2A and NR2B, and EphB2 receptor in fatigue rats were quantitatively analyzed using Real-time PCR., Results: Compared with the normal control group, the Y maze correct percentage in the model group obviously decreased (P<0.05), mRNA expressions of NR2B and EphB2 obviously decreased (P<0.901), with no obvious change in NR2A. Compared with the model group, Sihui Mixture could obviously improve Y maze results and mRNA expressions of NR2A and NR2B, and EphB2 (P<0 01). No statistical difference was found between the Sini Powder group and the Shenghui Decoction group. Compared with the Sini Powder group, mRNA expressions of EphB2 obviously increased in the Sihui Mixture group (P<0 01). mRNA expression of NR2A could be more obviously increased in the Shenghui Decoction group than in the model group (P <0 01)., Conclusion: The central nervous system fatigue could result in decreased Y maze results and gene expressions of hippocampal NR2B and EphB2. Sihui Mixture could improve rats' learning and memory ability, which might be possibly achieved through up-regulating mRNA expressions of hippocampal EphB2 and NR2B.

The present study aimed to study the changes of neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) expression of intrafusal muscle fibers in rat soleus muscles under simulated weightlessness. The tail-suspension (SUS) rat model was used to simulate weightlessness. Forty mature female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to ambulatory control (CON), 3-day SUS, 7-day SUS, 14-day SUS and 21-day SUS groups. Immunohistochemistry ABC staining method and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were used to detect the NT-3 expression of intrafusal muscle fibers in rat soleus muscles. The results from the immunohistochemistry staining technique showed that the extrafusal muscle fibers did not exhibit the NT-3-like immunoreactivity, and NT-3-like immunoreactivity was mainly expressed in nuclear bag 1 and nuclear bag 2 fibers of the muscle spindles. The ELISA results showed that the expression quantity of NT-3 in rat soleus muscles in control, 3-day SUS, 7-day SUS, 14-day SUS and 21-day SUS groups were (14.23±1.65), (14.11±1.53), (13.09±1.47), (12.45±1.51) and (9.85±1.52) pg/mg of tissue respectively. Compared to the control group, the expression quantity of NT-3 was significantly decreased after 14 days of SUS (P<0.05). After 21 days of SUS, the NT-3 expression was further reduced (P<0.01). These results suggest that simulated weightlessness induces an obvious decrease in the NT-3 expression level of intrafusal fibers in rat soleus muscles. Accompanying the simulated weightlessness extension, NT-3 expression in rat soleus muscle spindles is progressively decreased. These changes may contribute to the proprioceptive adaptations to microgravity.

Objectives: To study the effect of Houxue Zhitong decoration on the expression of the mitochondria-initiated apoptosis pathway and transmembrane protein I an II of the epidural scar tissue., Methods: A total of 60 New Zealand rabbits (weight: 2.5-3.0 kg) were randomly divided into four groups, sham operation group (D, n=15), control group (B, n=14), sodium hyaluronate group (C, n=15), Houxue Zhitong decoration group (D, n=15). Except for group A, 1.0 cm x 1.0 cm dura mater uncovered area laminectomy was performed at I (4) and I(5), covered with 0.5 ml sodium hyaluronate in group C, covered with same amount of saline in group B and D. First 2 weeks after operation, animals in group D were lavaged with 2.5 ml/kg Houxue Zhitong decoction by one a day for 14 days. Five rabbits of each group selected randomly were killed in the 2,4,8 weeks after laminectomy. The specimens were prepared for determination of the expression of Fas and FasL, at scar tissue by semiquantitative reserve transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The degree of scar adhesion was evaluated according by Rydell method., Results: The adhesion area in group B was larger than of group C and D in the 4th and 8th week. However, the number of fibroblasts and inflammantory cells in group D was the least among the three groups in the 8th week. At 2, 4, 8 weeks after operation, as compared with group B the expression of Fas, FasL of group C and D were decreased (P < 0.05). Especially, at 2 weeks, as compared with group B the expression of this two cytokines of group D was significant decreased (P < 0.05), too. In group C and D the duramater adhesion was decreased (P < 0.05). The proliferation of fibroblast and fibroblastic function were inhibited (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Huoxue Zhitong is able to down-regulated the expression of Fas, FasL, which inhibited the proliferation of fibroblast, the fibroblastic function and the synthesis of extracellular matrix in the epidural scar tissue. It is an effective way of reducing peridural scar formation and prevent the failed back surgery syndrome.

Objective: To study the effect of Huoxuezhitong recipe on the pathway of mitochondrial apoptosis and the expression of related gene (Caspase-3, -9, Bax, Bcl-2) in epidural scar tissue., Methods: A total of 60 New Zealand rabbits, ranging in weight from 2.5 to 3.0 kg, were randomly divided into sham operative group (group A), control group (group B), sodium hyaluronate group (group C), Huoxuezhitong recipe group (group D, included Danggui 20 g, Chishao 20 g, Honghua 20 g, Ruxiang 15 g, Myrrh 15 g etc.) with 15 rabbits in each group. Except for group A, L4,5 vertebral plate were resected leading to 1.0 cm x 1.0 cm dura mater exposed area, which were covered with 0.5 ml sodium hyaluronate in group C, covered with same amount of saline in group B and D. At 2 weeks after operation, the rabbits of group D were administered with Huoxuezhitong recipe (2.5 ml/kg, once a day, continuous 14 d). Five rabbits of each group were selected randomly and were killed at 2, 4 and 8 weeks after operation; and the expression of Caspase-3, -9, Bax, Bcl-2 in scar tissue were surveyed by semiquantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)., Results: The results by RT-PCR showed significant different in expressions of Caspase-3, -9, Bax, Bcl-2 of group A and others groups at each period (P < 0.01). At 2, 4, 8 weeks after operation, compared with group B, the expressions of Caspase-3, -9, Bcl-2 in group C and D were decreased (P < 0.05), but the expression of Bax in group C and D were increased (P < 0.05). At 8 weeks after operation, the expressions of Caspase-3, -9, Bax, Bcl-2 in group D was significant decreased compared with group C (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Huoxuezhitong recipe can regulate the levels of expression of Caspase-3, -9, Bax, Bcl-2 mRNA and further induce the pathway of mitochondrial apoptosis, thereby, achieve the effect of prophylaxis for the proliferation and conglutination of epidural scar tissue.

It is important to identify pigments of painting and colored drawing in ancient architectures in order to restore and conserve them. The components of green pigments were detected with X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX). Twenty-seven samples were collected from painting and colored drawing in northern Chinese ancient architectures in Beijing, Shanxi province and Gansu province. The experiment results showed that emerald green [CuCH3COO]2 x Cu(AsO2)2], a complex of copper aceto-arsenite pigment, had been used as the colored component in fifteen samples, whereas organic materials synthesized in the rest. However, in all samples there were no malachite and atacamite, green pigments commonly used in ancient time a long time ago. These two pigments have been found in Qin Shihuang's Terracotta Army and the wall paintings at Mogao Grettoes, Dunhuang, and some other famous wall paintings and color pottery figurines. However, emerald green was used many years later. It was reported that emerald green was synthesized by Germany in 1814 and had been widely used in China as watercolor on pith paper works and on scroll paintings since the 1850s. Because painting and colored drawing in ancient architectures stands outside, under sunlight and rain, it must be repaired and repainted in less than fifty years. Therefore, it is not surprising that emerald green was used in them. In recent years, artificial organic materials are increasingly used in painting and colored drawing in ancient architectures. From experiments it was also showed that in the same recolored painting and colored drawing, organic materials are usually in the later layers, but emerald green is in the earlier layers. This work supplies a lot of data for the purpose of selecting restoration materials and identifying painting and colored drawing in ancient architectures with a new method.

The flame temperature was measured by the double line of atomic emission spectroscopy according to the spectra of K (766.5 and 769.9 nm) whose relative intensity was obtained by fiber spectrometer. The principles, methods and experiment system were described. The temperature measured by the double line of atomic emission spectroscopy was compared to the results measured by thermal couple under the condition of thermal equilibrium of blackbody furnace. The comparison indicated a good coherence between these two measurement methods. The method was demonstrated on coal powder and timber, and the temperature measured corresponded to reality.

Bone transplantation is widely used in orthopaedics, and allograft bone transplantation is being more and more emphasized. In this article, the allograft bone combined with growth factors transplantation for repairing bone defects were reviewed. Moreover, the way to compound many growth factors and other material is the tendency of allogenic bone grafting, which enhance the opportunity of success in bone transplanting.

4-nitrobenzoic acid and hydraxine sulfate were cyclized with H3PO4/P2O5 to afford 2,5-bis(4-nitrophenyl)-1, 3,4-oxadiazole(1), then(1)was reduced to 2,5-bis(4-aminophenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole using Zn/CaCl2 as reduction reagent, and at last, a series of novel di-schiff base derivatives containing oxadiazole ring were obtained by the reaction of 2,5-bis(4-aminophenyl)-1, 3,4-oxadiazole with aromatic aldehydes (yield: 65%-81%). The structures of these compounds were confirmed by 1H NMR, FTIR and MS. Their UV-Vis spectra as well as fluorescence spectra were studied and the electrochemical properties were tested with cyclic voltammetry. The UV-Vis spectroscopy results show that the characteristic absorption peaks of 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole unit and di-schiff base unit disappeared. The maximum absorption wavelength was detected at 345-357 nm because conjugation effect made the two energy bands partially hybrid and form a new energy band structure. Fluorescence spectroscopy results show that they emit strong blue and purple fluorescence, and the emission maximum wavelengths of di-schiff base are from 390 to 407 nm. Electrochemical properties results show that they have higher affinity energy (2.36-3.04 eV) and ionic potential (5.35-6.06 eV), which indicated that they have better electron-transporting properties than PBD except 3 a and 3 h. The results give a reference to further application to organic electroluminescent devices of the target compound.

Objective: To analyze LC-MS fingerprints of Aristolochia manshuriensis for quality assessment with two different chemical pattern recognition models., Method: LC-MS fingerprints of A. manshuriensis were established from 24 batches of samples from different habitats. SIMCA and Clustering analysis were used to compare the parameters of the 29 common peaks., Result: Two methods had good consistency, while they reflected the inherent sample information from different perspectives, respectively., Conclusion: Modern equipment analysis technology and multivariable chemical pattern recognition would be an efficient way for quality control and variety identification of A. manshuriensis.

Objective: By means of the detection of the numbers of CD34(+) cells and eosinophils (EOS), and the level of IL-5 in peripheral blood from normal controls and patients with allergic rhinitis pre- or post-treatment, the role of EOS-stem cells paths for treatment effect in allergic rhinitis (AR) was studied so as to find the convenient and quick indicators which could be used to evaluate the clinical therapeutic effect and adjust the methods of the hormone therapy., Methods: There were 2 groups. (1) experimental group: 44 patients, including 24 males and 20 females with a age range of 7 to 68 years old. The patients received the treatment of fluticasone spurt for four weeks. (2) CONTROL GROUP: 30 cases, from normal health examination. The EOS numbers, CD4(+) cell numbers and the IL-5 level were examined in control group as well as before and after therapy in experimental group., Results: The IL-5 level and CD numbers before therapy in experimental group were (88.25 +/- 33.47) ng/L, (9.24 +/- 2.15)/10(5), significantly higher than that after therapy and experimental group which were (44.34 +/- 16.32) ng/L, (6.31 +/- 1.83)/10(5) and (31.24 +/- 8.43) ng/L, (3.47 +/- 1.32)/10(5) respectively. The IL-5 level was positively correlated with the CD34(+) number pre-and post treatment in experimental group (r = 0.64, P <0.01; (r = 0.61, P <0.01). The EOS number was positively correlated with the level of IL-5 (r = 0.64, P <0.01)., Conclusions: IL-5 and CD34(+) cells can be regarded as indicators to evaluate the therapeutic effect. The EOS, CD34(+) cells and the level of IL-5 in the peripheral blood are correlated with the pathogenesis of AR, suggesting that there is a related path between the local nasal tissue of AR patients and the marrow.

Objective: To clone pIA and pIB genes of Neisseria gonorrhoeae,and to construct pIA-pIB fusion gene and its prokaryotic expression system, and to establish enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) based on rPIA-PIB for detecting serum and pus samples from gonorrhea patients and to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the ELISA., Methods: pIA-pIB fusion gene was constructed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using linking primers and a prokaryotic expression system of the fusion gene was constructed by using routine molecular biological methods. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) plus BioRad Gel Image Analyzer was used to measure the expression of the target recombinant protein rPIA-PIB. Ni-NTA affinity chromatography was performed to extract and purify rPIA-PIB. An ELISA by using rPIA-PIB as the coated antigen for detecting the specific IgG against rPIA and/or rPIB in gonorrhea patients' sera as well as another ELISA by using rPIA-PIB antiserum as the first antibody for detecting the rPIA and/or rPIB in gonorrhea patients' pus samples were established. In these experiments, ELISAs associated with rPIA, rPIB and their antisera were applied as the controls., Results: 100% similarities of the nucleotide and putative amino acid sequences of the pIA-pIB fusion gene were confirmed when compared with the original sequences. The output of rPIA-PIB was 29.8% of the total bacterial proteins. The purified rPIA-PIB only showed a single target protein segment in gel after SDS-PAGE. Using a positive rate (98.3%) of rPIA-PIB-IgG-ELISA to detect 119 cases of gonorrhea patients' serum samples was remarkably higher than that of rPIA-IgG-ELISA (30.3%) or rPIB-IgG-ELISA (66.4%) (P<0.01). The positive rate (91.6%) of rPIA-PIB-ELISA to detect 119 cases of gonorrhea patients' pus samples was also significantly higher than that of rPIA-IgG-ELISA (27.7%) or rPIB-IgG- ELISA (62.2%) (P<0.01)., Conclusion: In this study we successfully constructed pIA-pIB fusion gene of N. gonorrhoeae and its prokaryotic expression system while rPIA-PIB showed obvious superiority used as the antigen in gonorrhea associated detection kits compared to both the rPIA and rPIB.

Objective: To investigate the protective action of Epimedium against chemotherapy-induced damage to rat epididymides., Methods: Fifty 60-day-old male rats were divided into a control, a model and a treatment group. Procarbazine was injected into the abdominal cavity of the model rats at the dose of 30 mg/(kg x d). In addition to procarbazine, Epimedium was given intragastrically to the treatment group. The changes in the ultrastructure of the epididymis were observed after 10 and 20 days., Results: Electron microscopy showed that the chemotherapy-induced damages to the epididymal epithelia mainly included cell swelling, local cavitation of mitochondria, tumor-like change in nucleoli, agglutination of marginal translocation of heterochromatin and cell apoptosis. The damage to the epithelial ultrastructure was slight in the treatment group as compared with the model rats. Chemotherapy significantly affected sperm concentration, sperm viability and sialic acid (SA), which were (15.59 +/- 4.01) x 10(6)/ml, (76.71 +/- 10.11)% and (19.38 +/- 9.34) g/mg prot in the model group in comparison with (10.63 +/- 3.82) x 10(6)/ml (P < 0.01), (60.03 +/- 7.54)% (P < 0.01) and (13.62 +/- 7.81) g/g prot (P < 0.05) in the control. Epimedium significantly increased sperm viability in the treatment group (60.03 +/- 7.54)% as compared with the model rats (69.90 +/- 12.58)% (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Epimedium can lessen chemotherapy-induced damage to the epididymis and protect the reproductive function of rats.

The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of diacetyl hexamethylene diamine (CAHB) for patients with high risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), and to explore the effect of CAHB on HL-60 cells in vitro and its possible mechanism. 8 patients with high risk MDS were treated with CAHB by continuous intravenous infusion for 10 days, and repeated once after an interval of 28 days. The count of the granulo- and mono-blasts in bone marrow (BM) aspirate was measured before and after treatment. HL-60 cells were treated with different concentrations of CAHB for 72 hours in vitro. The inhibitory effect of CAHB on proliferation of HL-60 cells in vitro was measured by MTT assay. Differentiation of HL-60 cells was detected by the changes of CD11b and CD14 expression on cell surface. Apoptosis of HL-60 cells was detected by double staining of Annexin V and PI. The cell cycle distribution change of HL-60 cells was analyzed by flow-cytometry. The results indicated that the granulo- and mono-blasts in BM decreased in all the 8 patients after CAHB treatment. The main side effect of CAHB on hematological system was thrombocytopenia. After being treated with 1, 2, 3, 4 mmol/L CAHB for 72 hours in vitro, the result of MTT assay showed the inhibitory effect of CAHB on the proliferation of HL-60 cells in dose-dependent manner. After being treated manner 1, 2, 3, 4 mmol/L CAHB for 72 hours, the CD11b positive HL-60 cells were 22.39+/-3.97%, 33.12+/-4.46%, 49.25+/-5.27%, 78.05+/-5.66%, respectively, which were significantly different from the control group (CD11b positive HL-60 cells was 5.89+/-2.94%) (p<0.01). The CD14 expression was negative in all the 5 groups. These results suggested that CAHB could induce HL-60 cells to differentiate into mature granulocytes, and the effect of CAHB appeared in dose-dependent manner. After being treated for 72 hours by 1, 2, 3, 4 mmol/L CAHB, the apoptotic cells (Annexin V(+)/PI(-) cells) increased mildly, which suggested that CAHB only weakly induces HL-60 cells to apoptosis at the concentration of 1 to 4 mmol/L. Along with the concentration increase of CAHB, the ratio of cells in G(0)/G(1) phase increased, and ratio of cells in S phase and G(2)/M phase decreased correspondingly, it indicated that CAHB could arrest HL-60 cells in G(0)/G(1) phase in a dose-dependent manner. It is concluded that induction of cell differentiation may be the primary effect of CAHB on MDS. Cell cycle arrest may be essential to the effect of CAHB as well. Side effect of CAHB on platelet count may correlated with its inhibitory effect on hematopoiesis.

Objective: To clone tpn17 and tpn47 genes of Treponema pallidum and then construct their prokaryotic expression systems,to establish ELISAs based on rTpN17 and rTpN47 as antigens and to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the ELISAs for detection of serological diagnosis of syphilis., Methods: The whole length of tpn17 and tpn47 genes was amplified by PCR and then their prokaryotic expression systems were constructed. SDS-PAGE was used to measure the expression of the target recombinant proteins rTpN17 and rTpN47. Ni-NTA affinity chromatography was applied to extract rTpN17 and rTpN47, while Western blot was performed to determine the specific immunoreactivity of rTpN17 and rTpN47. By using rTpN17 and rTpN47 as the coated antigen, respectively, ELISAs (rTpN17-ELISA and rTpN47-ELISA) were established to detect serum samples from 200 healthy individuals, 25 RA patients, 17 SLE patients and 211 syphilis patients. The detection effects of the ELISAs were compared to those of TRUST and TPHA., Result: The sequence similarity of the cloned tpn17 and tpn47 genes was 100 % compared with the corresponding sequences in GenBank. The expression outputs of rTpN17 and rTpN47 were approximately 37.2 % and 26.8 % of the total bacterial proteins, respectively. Both the extracted rTpN17 and rTpN47 could take place remarkable conjugation reactions to the sera with positive antibody against Treponema pallidum.The positive detection rate of TPHA (99.1%) was the highest (P<0.001). The positive detection rates of rTpN17-ELISA (85.3 %) and rTpN47-ELISA (84.3 %) were similar (P>0.05). The positive detection rates of TRUST (72.5 %) was lower than that of rTpN17-ELISA (P=0.001) but similar to that of rTpN47-ELISA (P=0.014). The detection results of all the serum samples from healthy individuals, RA patients and SLE patients were negative, whereas 7.1 % (3/42) of the samples from RA or SLE patients were positive., Conclusion: rTpN17 and rTpN47 are still maintaining their original immunoreactivity. The ELISAs using rTpN17 or rTpN47 as the antigen are rapid, simple and convenient, higher sensitivity and specificity methods for serological screening and detection of syphilis.
