Background Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common malignant tumor of the endocrine system, and its incidence has increased rapidly in recent years. Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is the most common type of thyroid cancer, accounting for 80% of all thyroid cancers. Despite the efficacy of surgical treatment, radioactive iodine therapy, TSH inhibition therapy and novel targeted drug therapy, early diagnosis and intervention are the key to stop its occurrence and development, however, the sensitivity indexes related to PTC are still lacking in clinical practice. Objective To investigate the correlation between lipid metabolism, inflammatory markers and sex of patients with PTC. Methods The data of PTC patients (n=370) diagnosed and treated in the Affiliated Hospital of North China University of Science and Technology from January 2018 to December 2020 were selected for retrospective analysis, and the normal population of physical examination in the same period was matched according to age and gender as the control group (n=1 112). Age, gender, smoking status, BMI, peripheral blood white blood cell count (WBC), platelet count (PLT), lymphocyte count (LYM), monocyte count (MON), neutrophil count (NEU), fasting blood glucose (FBG), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total cholesterol (TC), were collected in both groups, triacylglycerol (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), urea (UREA), creatinine (Cr), and uric acid (UA), and calculate the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), and monocyte-to-HDL cholesterol ratio (MHR). Analyze the correlation between the above indicators and PTC and their diagnostic value. ObjectiveTo analyze the epidemiological features and influencing factors of rabies in Shanxi Province，and to provide evidence to further promote the elimination of rabies in Shanxi Province.MethodsThe incidence data of rabies in Shanxi from 2011 to 2022 were collected and subjected to descriptive analysis.ResultsFrom 2011 to 2022， a total of 348 rabies cases were reported in Shanxi Province， with an average annual incidence of 0.080 3/105. The incidence of rabies showed a downward trend overall. The highest incidence was in August. The cases were mainly farmers， mostly males， and most cases were reported between 50 and 69 years old. The data of cases showed that dogs were the main animals attacking human （93.96%）. The incubation period of most cases was 1‒3 months （37.37%）.The main exposure site was hand（51.33%）. Only 2.66% cases with grade Ⅲ exposure were injected with passive immune agents.ConclusionThe incidence of rabies in Shanxi Province continues to decrease， but there are still loopholes in prevention and control measures. It is necessary to strengthen the management and immunization of dogs，health education， and standardized procedures after exposure to maintain the achievements in the prevention and control of rabies.

This work aims at improving the energy utilization efficiency of kilns. Magnesium aluminate spinel porous insulation materials were prepared as follows. Medium-grade magnesia fine powder and calcined alumina powder were mixed in a mass ratio of 35:65, dried, and crushed into powders of d50 =2.3 µ xm. Then different amounts of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as a foam stabilizer and 0.6 mass% potassium oleate as a foaming agent were added to obtain the foaming slurry. Finally the slurry was injected into molds of 40 mm x 40 mm x 40 mm, demolded, dried at 110 °C for 24 h, and fired at 1 500 °C for 3 h. The effects of the CMC addition (0, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, and 0.5%, by mass, extra adding) on the properties of the slurry and the fired samples were studied. The results show that: (1)when the CMC addition is higher than 0.1%, the slurry has decreased expansion ratio, increased viscosity, and less and smaller bubbles; (2) when the CMC addition is 0.2%, the slurry has the maximum Zeta potential absolute value of 18.3 mV, which is the most stable; the sample has the most pores, which are spherical and closed; the apparent porosity, bulk density, and cold compressive strength of the sample are 73.5%, 0.95 g • cm-3, and 13.1 MPa. Objective: To determine the humoral immunity in advanced maternal-age women with recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA)., Methods: A retrospective study was performed between January 2022 and October 2023 in the Department of Reproductive Immunity of Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital. Women with RSA were recruited and multiple autoantibodies were tested. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to compare the associations between different age groups (20 to 34 years old in the low maternal-age group and 35 to 45 years in the advanced maternal-age group) and multiple autoantibodies, while controlling for three confounding factors, including body mass index (BMI), previous history of live birth, and the number of spontaneous abortions. Then, we investigated the differences in the humoral immunity of advanced maternal-age RSA women and low maternal-age RSA women., Result: A total of 4009 women with RSA were covered in the study. Among them, 1158 women were in the advanced maternal-age group and 2851 women were in the low maternal-age group. The prevalence of antiphospholipid syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren's syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and undifferentiated connective tissue disease was 15.6% and 14.1%, 0.0% and 0.1%, 0.9% and 0.9%, 0.3% and 0.0%, and 23.7% and 22.6% in the advanced maternal-age group and low maternal-age group, respectively, showing no statistical difference between the two groups. The positive rates of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs), antinuclear antibody (ANA), extractable nuclear antigen (ENA) antibody, anti-double stranded DNA (dsDNA) antibody, anti single-stranded DNA (ssDAN) antibody, antibodies against alpha-fodrin (AAA), and thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) were 19.1% and 19.5%, 6.6% and 6.6%, 9.2% and 10.5%, 2.0% and 2.0%, 2.2% and 1.2%, 5.1% and 4.9%, and 17.8% and 16.8%, respectively. No differences were observed between the two groups. 1.6% of the women in the advanced maternal-age group tested positive for lupus anticoagulant (LA), while 2.7% of the women in the low maternal-age group were LA positive, with the differences being statistically significant (odds ratio=0.36, 95% confidence interval: 0.17-0.78). In the 4008 RSA patients, the cumulative cases tested positive for the three antibodies of the aPLs spectrum were 778, of which 520 cases were positive for anti-β2 glycoprotein Ⅰ antibodies (β2GPⅠ Ab)-IgG/IgM, 58 were positive for aCL-IgG/IgM, 73 were positive for LA, 105 were positive for both β2GPⅠ Ab-IgG/IgM and aCL-IgG/IgM, 17 were positive for both β2GPⅠ Ab-IgG/IgM and LA, 2 were positive for both aCL-IgG/IgM and LA, and 3 were positive for all three antibodies., Conclusion: Our study did not find a difference in humoral immunity between RSA women of advanced maternal age and those of low maternal age., Competing Interests: 利益冲突　所有作者均声明不存在利益冲突, (© 2024《四川大学学报（医学版）》编辑部 版权所有Copyright ©2024 Editorial Office of Journal of Sichuan University (Medical Sciences).)

Objective: To observe the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in regulation of cytokines response induced by Mycoplasma genitalium-derived lipid-associated membrane proteins (LAMPs) in placental trophoblast cells., Methods: Placental trophoblast cells were cultured in vitro and stimulated by 0.5-5 μg/mL LAMPs for 4 to 12 hours. Expression of HO-1 mRNA and protein, and nuclear translocation of nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) were detected by real-time quantitative PCR and Western blotting, respectively. The intracellular formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was detected by the fluorescent probe H2DCFDA. N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) and nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) siRNA were respectively used to analyze the roles of ROS and Nrf2 in mediating HO-1 expression. Finally, placental trophoblast cells were transfected with HO-1 siRNA, or preincubated by the HO-1 agonist cobalt protoporphyrin (CoPP) or its inhibitor zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP), and LAMPs-induced secretion of TNF-α and IL-1β were detected by ELISA., Results: M. genitalium LAMPs induced the expression of HO-1 mRNA and protein, the accumulation of ROS and the nuclear translocation of Nrf2 in placental trophoblast cells. NAC treatment inhibited LAMPs-induced HO-1 expression and Nrf2 nuclear translocation, and the transfection of Nrf2 siRNA significantly abrogated HO-1 expression. Furthermore, HO-1 siRNA and ZnPP treatment increased LAMPs-induced TNF-α and IL-1β secretion, while the HO-1 agonist CoPP treatment further decreased their production., Conclusion: M. genitalium LAMPs could induce placental trophoblast cells to express HO-1 through ROS/Nrf2 pathways. Up-regulation of HO-1 negatively regulates excessive production of cytokines.

The mechanisms of general anesthesia, which was introduced about 170 years ago, remain poorly under- stood. Even less well understood are the effects of general anesthesia on the human body. Recently we identified 18 G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) genes of Daphnia pulex, an invertebrate model organism. Phylogenetic analysis identified these genes to be the homologs of the human γ-aminobutyric acid, type B (GABAB) receptor, metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluR), adrenergic receptor, serotonin (5-HT) receptor, dopamine receptor and muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (mAChR). Using reverse transcription and quantitative PCR techniques, we systematically measured the effects of propofol, etomidate and ethanol on these 18 GPCR mRNA expressions in Daphnia pulex.

Objective: To study the ocular manifestations in patients with Behcet's disease(BD)., Methods: Medical records at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 2002 to 2012 were reviewed to identify the patients who were diagnosed as BD with ocular involvement., Results: One hundred and eleven BD patients developed ocular involvement. Males were more frequently involved, and the male/ female ratio was 2.08: 1. The age at the onset of BD and the time of ocular involvement were (27.6 ± 10.8) and (31.5 ± 10.7) years, respectively. The median interval between the diagnosis of BD and ocular disease was 24 (0, 372) months. Ocular involvement was bilateral in 85.6% patients. About two thirds patients (66.7%) had impaired vision, for example, visual acuity of 0.1 or less was detected in 60.4% patients. Uveitis (90.1%) was the most common findings in BD patients with ocular involvement and the most frequent type of uveitis in both sexes was panuveitis (62.16%). Vision loss, proliferative retinopathy and cataract were more common in men. There was a statistically significantly higher frequency of positive human leukocyte antigen(HLA)-B51 in the male BD with ocular involvement than in the female. All BD patients with uveitis were given systemic corticosteroid or combined immunosuppressive agents. The improvement of visual acuity was seen in 77% BD patients, but the recurrent attacks occurred in 49% patients, resulting in blindness in 25.5% of them. TNFα blockers were given to 19 recurrent uveitis patients, 12 patients improved while two had no response., Conclusions: The most common ocular involvement in BD was uveitis. Males were more frequently involved with a more severe disease, higher complications and positive HLA-B51 than in females. Glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants were effective to uveitis, but high rate of recurrent inflammatory ocular attacks led to high risk of blindness. TNFα blockers may improve the outcome of recurrent BD uveitis.

pH homeostasis is essential for development, proliferation and apoptosis of cells. Once the pH balances are broken, cell functions and survival will be affected. Nevertheless, moderate acidosis could result in adaptive responses for cell survival and increase tolerance to harmful stress. Here we found that acidic preconditioning (APC) could significantly increase the survival rate of Daphnia pulex, a freshwater invertebrate, during severe hypoxic insult. Meanwhile, the acidic treatment significantly increased the gene expression of hypoxia inducible factor (HIF). Both echinomycin, an inhibitor of HIF, and compound C, an inhibitor of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), could effectively eliminate the acid-induced hypoxic tolerance and the enhanced transcription of HIF. Temsirolimus, an inhibitor of mammalian Target of Rapamycin (mTOR), though effectively abolished the increased transcription of HIF, improved the APC-mediated protection. This result suggests that the involvement of the HIF and AMPK and mTOR could signal the pathways in APC-induced protection against hypoxic insult.

The present study was to investigate in vitro the rat cardiomyocyte injury with targeting of home-made perfluorocarbon lipid particles with avidin-biotin interaction. Neonatal rat cardiomyocytes were cultured in vitro and divided into two groups: TNF-alpha activated group and non-activated group. Those in the TNF-alpha activated group were exposed to 200 ng/ml TNF-alpha solution for 6 hours and then cardiomyocytes in both groups were pretargeted with biotinylated ICAM-1 monoclonal antibodies, and were exposed to streptavidin, and then to homemade green fluorescently-labeled biotinylated perfluorocarbon lipid particles. Cardiomyocytes nucleus stained with Hoechst. The results were detected with fluorescence microscope. As a result, in TNF-alpha activated group, around blue fluorescent cardiomyocytes nucleus, a great amount of green fluorescent particles were found, while there were few green fluorescent particles in non-TNF activated group. It has been shown that ICAM-1 is expressed in the surface of cardiomyocytes when they are stimulated by TNF-alpha. Perfluorocarbon lipid particles associated with ICAM-1 monoclonal antibodies can be targeted to injured cardiomyocytes by avidin-biotin interaction.

Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) is an important transcription factor under hypoxic condition in many organisms, and plays a key role in the induction of hypoxia tolerance. It is necessary to establish a hypoxia model for HIF and to perform further hypoxia tolerance research. To investigate the value of Daphnia as a model organism in hypoxia precondition, we developed a preconditioning protocol with a model organism, Daphnia pulex. We found that two episodes of exposure to hypoxic solution resulted in enhanced hypoxia tolerance which is dependent on HIF. Comparative genomic analysis was also made to highlight the homology of HIF-related genes among Daphnia, fruitfly and human. We found that Daphnia is suitable for the study of human hypoxic injury as a model organism.

Objective: To explore the clinical effect of different types of free tissue transplantation on repairing tissue defects and reconstructing functions., Methods: From November 2001 to September 2004, 14 types of free tissue transplantation and 78 free tissue flaps were applied to repairing tissue defects and reconstructing functions in extremities and maxillofacial region in 69 cases. Of the 69 cases, there were 53 males and 16 females (their ages ranged from 18 to 56, 31 on average). Five cases were repaired because of skin defects in foot, 22 cases were repaired because of skin defects in leg, 36 cases were repaired as the result of skin defects in hand or forearm and finger reconstruction, 3 cases were restored by virtue of ulna or radius defects, and 3 cases were repaired in maxillofacial region. There were 55 cases of open wound, in which 16 cases were infectious wound, 6 cases were osteomyelitis or pyogenic arthritis. There were 14 cases of non-infectious wound. The area of these tissue flaps ranged from 2.0 cm x 1.5 cm to 43.0 cm x 12.0 cm. The length of bone transplantation ranged from 10 cm to 15 cm., Results: Arterial crisis occurred in 2 cases, venous crisis occurred in 2 cases. Seventy-six flaps survived completely and 2 flaps survived partially which were later healed. Fifty-two cases were healed at stage I, 13 cases were healed at stage I (healing time ranged from 20 to 30 days), purulent infection occurred to 4 cases(healing time ranged from 3 to 11 months). Bone healing time ranged from 6 to 8 weeks in finger reconstruction. Bone healing time ranged from 4 to 6 months in fibula transplantation. The function reconstruction and appearance were satisfying. The functions of all regions, where free tissues were supplied, were not disturbed., Conclusion: Tissue transplantation and composite tissue transplantation are effective in repairing tissue defects and reconstructing functions.

Objective: To evaluate possible inactivating effect of recombined decoction in on mumps virus., Methods: By adopting tissue cell culturing technology, a group of viruses including the mumps virus, herpes simplex virus (type I, II), rubella virus, cytomegalovirus (CMV), herpes zoster virus, influenza virus, parainfluenza virus, adeno viruses, respiratory syneytial virus (RSV) were cultured. The cells infected with the viruses were treated with the decoction., Results: The decoction showed remarkable inhibitory and killing effects on the mumps virus while had no obvious inhibitory and killing effects on host's cells, herpes simplex virus (type I, II), rubella virus, cytomegalovirus (CMV), herpes zoster virus, influenza virus, parainfluenza virus, adeno viruses, respiratory syneytial virus (RSV)., Conclusions: The decoction had obvious inhibitory and killing effects on mumps virus during single layer cells culture.
