- Abstract
The present author explores the characteristics and functions of the concept of faith within primitive religions, and has compared them with Christianity. Firstly, it is irrationality that differentiates primitive religions from Christianity, which employs reason in many cases in order to defend and analyze her faith. Secondly, utilitarianism is the main characteristic of primitive religious faith, since it can help believers avoid harm and achieve blessing. This also differs from Christianity. However, there are also similarities between primitive religions and Christianity. For example, sharing and seeking goodness are among the eternal and universal issues which both seek. Such reflection on the faith in primitive religions can offer a theoretical reference for understanding the concept of faith in Martin Luther's formula Justification by faith. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
