Programmed cell death is an important biological process, including apoptosis, autophagy and other modalities, which is essential for maintaining homeostasis of tissue and organ. In recent years, several studies have shown that aberrant regulation of programmed cell death plays an important role in the development of colorectal cancer. Therefore, it is important to reveal the fine-turned regulatory network of programmed cell death in colorectal carcinogenesis and progression to develop new clinical treatment strategies for colorectal cancer. This paper aims to review the research progress of programmed cell death in colorectal cancer, and provide new ideas and approaches for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer.

Background The burden due to influenza-related hospitalization is heavy in children under 5 years old, a high-risk group of severe influenza, but there is little research on the risk factors for such hospitalizations. Objective To explore the risk factors for influenza A variant virus-related hospitalization in children under 5 years old. Methods A retrospective design was used. Children under five years old (n=1 450) with influenza A virus infection were selected from Emergency Department, Beijing Ditan Hospital Capital Medical University during December 2018 to February 2019. Clinical data were collected, including age, sex, baseline chronic disease, time from onset to first contact, time from onset to initiation of antiviral therapy, main clinical features and prevalence of hospitalization. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the risk factors of hospitalization. Results The median age for the children was 2.5 (1.1, 3.9) years, and males outnumbered females (56.5% vs 43.5%) . Thirty-eight (2.6%) had baseline chronic diseases, and 155 (10.7%) were hospitalized. 【Objective】 Water balance in a region is jointly controlled by land usage, precipitation and evapotranspiration. All these are modulated by soil texture. Taking the sandy areas in Horqin of Inner Mongolia as an example, this paper analyzes how land usage affects evapotranspiration and its consequence for water balance. 【Method】 The analysis was based on MODIS and meteorological data, and the evapotranspiration during crop growth season in Naiman Banner was retrieved by the SEBAL model. Using these data, we calculated the response of water balance to land usage across the region. 【Result】 The maximum daily evapotranspiration was 3.74 mm/d occurring in July, and the least was 2.35 mm/d occurring in September. Spatially, the evapotranspiration was high in the south and low in the center of the region. It was found that the evapotranspiration was negatively correlated with land surface temperature and reflectance with R2=0.94 and 0.44, respectively, while positively correlated with the normalized vegetation index with R2=0.4. Daily evapotranspiration from different land usage was ranked in the order: land for construction> woodland > cultivated land > grassland > bare soil. On average, the water deficit in the sandy region is 121 mm but varies spatially with land usage. Water deficit in the woodland and the cultivated land in the south was more than 100 mm. In some areas, part of the evapotranspiration emanated from groundwater or runoff; and the water deficit in some woodland could be as high as 204.7 mm. The water surplus in areas with bare soil was 16.8 mm, indicating that regions with bare soil functioned as the water source discharging to groundwater. 【Conclusion】 Large-scale afforestation in this region is not recommended because of its high demand for water. It is beneficial to keep soil surface in some areas bare to maintain stability of ecological functions in Horqin while in the meantime ensuring its productivity.

The topological Kondo insulator (TKI) is an intrinsic electronic correlated topological system in which the bulk bandgap is originated from the Kondo correlation. Since the theoretical idea of TKI was proposed in 2010, SmB6 was predicted to be the first candidate topological Kondo insulator. In the last decade, SmB6 was investigated extensively by various experimental methods, and the accumulated evidence confirmed that SmB6 is a topological Kondo insulator. This review article presented some key experimental evidence, including electronic transportation measurements, ARPES study of low-energy band structure, and STM characterization of the surface. We also discussed how these experimental results establish the topological narrative of SmB6. Meanwhile, some extremely exotic properties like the 3D quantum oscillations and the bulk-surface valence seperation of SmB6 are exhibited. Objective: To investigate the effects of electron beam irradiation on the physicochemical properties and antioxidant activity of non-waxy and waxy proso millet. Methods: waxy (‘Yushu 1’) and non-waxy (‘Yumi 2’) proso millet were subjected to electron beam irradiation at different doses of 0 (control), 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 kGy and were evaluated for physicochemical properties, bioactive substances and antioxidant capacity. Results: After electron beam irradiation, the color, starch content, ash content, phenolic content and antioxidant activity of non-waxy and waxy proso millet changed significantly (P 0.05). In addition, electron beam irradiation treatment significantly increased the contents of total phenols and total flavonoids, antioxidant activity and individual phenolic contents in non-waxy and waxy proso millet; the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging capacity increased up to 78.01% and 70.22%, and the 2,2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) radical cation scavenging capacity increased up to 61.51% and 50.57%, respectively. The contents of gallic acid, caffeic acid, resveratrol, catechin and kaempferol in proso millet extract increased, while the contents of protocatechuic acid and epicatechin remained relatively stable. The correlation analysis suggested that the total phenolic content had a significantly positive correlation with the contents of catechin and quercetin (P < 0.01), the total flavonoid content had a significantly positive correlation with the contents of rutin and gallic acid (P < 0.01), and the antioxidant activity was positively correlated with the catechin content. Compared with the control, proso millet treated with electron beam irradiation exhibited stronger antioxidant properties and higher phenolic contents, which would be worthy of further research and development.

The effects of hot air drying (60, 70 and 80 ℃), freeze drying and natural air drying on the volatile flavor compounds in the pileus and stipe of Hypsizygus marmoreus were investigated by headspace solid phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) and an electronic nose, and the contribution of flavor compounds to the overall flavor of dried samples was analyzed by relative odor activity value (ROAV). Results showed that there were marked differences in the electronic nose data of the ten dried samples; therefore, the electronic nose could effectively distinguish their volatile flavor. Moreover, 32, 41, 40, 53 and 48 volatile flavor compounds were identified in dried pileus obtained by hot air drying at 60, 70 and 80 ℃, freeze drying and natural air drying, respectively, and 34, 33, 33, 43 and 44 volatile flavor compounds in dried stipe obtained by hot air drying at 60, 70 and 80 ℃, freeze drying and natural air drying, respectively. The content of volatile flavor compounds in dried pileus was higher than that dried stipe with the same drying treatment, and hot air drying produced higher contents of new flavor compounds compared with natural air drying and freeze drying. In addition, 25 flavor compounds were obtained from ROAV analysis, among which trimethylamine, iso-valeraldehyde, and 1-octen-3-ol contributed more to the overall flavor. Furthermore, principal component analysis (PCA) was carried out on these 25 flavor compounds to generate a quality evaluation model. It was found that the pileus sample obtained by hot air drying at 80 ℃ had the highest score, indicating it had the best flavor quality.

Objective: To observe the effects of acupuncture on swallowing function and quality of life for patients with dysphagia in Parkinson's disease (PD)., Methods: A total of 60 patients of PD with dysphagia were randomly divided into an observation group (30 cases, 2 cases dropped off) and a control group (30 cases, 3 cases dropped off). The control group was given conventional medication therapy and rehabilitation training. On the basis of the treatment as the control group, the observation group was given acupuncture at Fengfu (GV 16), Baihui (GV 20), Shenting (GV 24), Yintang (GV 24 + ), Yansanzhen and bilateral Fengchi (GB 20), 30 min each time, once a day, 6 times a week for 4 weeks. Before and after treatment, the Kubota water swallowing test, standardized swallowing assessment (SSA) and swallowing quality of life (SWAL-QOL) were used to evaluate the swallowing function and quality of life of the two groups., Results: After treatment, the Kubota water swallowing test grade, SSA scores in the two groups were decreased compared with those before treatment ( P <0.05, P <0.001)，the SWAL-QOL scores were increased compared with those before treatment ( P <0.001); in the observation group，the Kubota water swallowing test grade and SSA score were lower than those in the control group ( P <0.05)，the SWAL-QOL score was higher than that in the control group ( P <0.001)., Conclusion: On the basis of conventional medication therapy and rehabilitation training，acupuncture could improve the swallowing function and quality of life for patients of PD with dysphagia.

Yarrowia lipolytica is a non-conventional yeast with unique physiological and metabolic characteristics. It is suitable for production of various products due to its natural ability to utilize a variety of inexpensive carbon sources, excellent tolerance to low pH, and strong ability to secrete metabolites. Currently, Y . lipolytica has been demonstrated to produce a wide range of carboxylic acids with high efficiency. This article summarized the progress in engineering Y . lipolytica to produce various carboxylic acids by using metabolic engineering and synthetic biology approaches. The current bottlenecks and solutions for high-level production of carboxylic acids by engineered Y . lipolytica were also discussed, with the aim to provide useful information for relevant studies in this field.

Viral pneumonia is caused by a spreading of lung infection caused by respiratory viruses. Some virus infections were found to be highly aggressive, leading to lung inflammation and severe damage in respiratory system with high fatality rate. Currently, there is no effective therapeutic drugs in the clinic. The common clinical symptoms of viral pneumonias include fever, rhinitis, runny nose, nonproductive cough, fatigue, myalgias and headaches after the immune system being tricked by driving cytokines and overactivated immune response induced by cytokine storms. Patients with severe symptoms could get persistent high fever, dysfunctional breathing, consciousness disorders and even respiratory failure, post-inflammatory pulmonary fibrosis, multi-organ damages, shock and so on. Most clinical treatments are used to inhibit virus replication, relieve symptoms, inhibit excessive inflammatory response, regulate immune balance and protect organs. Both applied and basic research demonstrate that Chinese patent medicine has certain anti-viral effects, effectively inhibiting viral pneumonia transiting from mild to severe, rapid relieving of patient symptoms because of their multi-component and multi-target integrated roles. This review has summarized the reports on the treatment of viral pneumonia. Based on the pathogenic characteristics of viral pneumonia, this paper summarizes the diverse roles of the marketed Chinese patent medicine, such as their effects in inhibiting the progress of viral replication and overactivated inflammatory response, regulating immune balance, attenuating pulmonary fibrosis and so forth. Our paper summarizes the advantages of Chinese patient medicine in the treatment of viral pneumonia, based on which improvements of clinical therapy are expected to be made soon.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of endoscopic purse-string suture (EPSS) with metallic clips and endoloop for the gastric wall defect after postoperative perforation., Methods: Clinical data of 25 patients with gastric tumors(1 of gastric adenocarcinoma, 24 of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumor, GIST) undergoing EPSS in Jiangsu Province People's Hospital and The Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2013 to May 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. During the procedure, EPSS was performed in 8 cases with perforation after endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD), and in 17 cases with active perforation after endoscopic full-thickness resection., Results: Twenty-five patients underwent EPSS successfully. The procedure time was 35.0-75.0(49.8±10.1) min. No severe operational and postoperative complications occurred. Tumor resection margin were all negative. Time to withdraw gastrointestinal decompression drainage tube was 1-3(1.3±0.8) d. Postoperative hospital stay was 2-10(4.8±2.1) d and total cost was 10-31(19±0.5) thousand Yuan. One month after the procedure, all the patients received follow-up with no complaint of discomfort, and endoscopy confirmed that all the lesions healed., Conclusion: EPSS with metallic clips and endoloop is effective and safe to close the gastric wall defect after full-thickness resection.

Objective: To explore the memory consolidation related role of gene Arc in amygdala-kindled rats., Methods: A total of 60 male amygdala-kindled rats were divided equally into 3 groups: 0.9% sodium chloride injection, null vector lentivirus injection and silencing lentivirus injection. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and Western blot were performed to confirm the silencing efficiency of Arc. And the passive avoidance test and Morris' water maze were used to test the memory consolidation ability of rats in three groups., Results: The memory consolidation ability became significantly impaired in the Arc silencing group in both of passive avoidance test and water maze comparing to the other groups. And no significant difference existed in memory consolidation ability between 0.9% sodium chloride and null vector lentivirus injection groups., Conclusion: The ability of memory consolidation is impaired in Arc silencing amygdala-kindled rats and Arc may play a significant role in the consolidation of memory in amygdala-kindled rats.

Objective: To explore the effects of low-frequency electric stimulus (LFS) on hippocampal of α5 subunit of extrasynaptic GABAA receptor in kainic acid-induced epilepsy rats and explore the possible mechanism of LFS on hippocampus to treat epilepsy., Methods: A total of 32 male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided randomly into 4 groups:epileptic, pseudo-surgery, LFS treatment and control. The expression of α5 subunit of extrasynaptic GABAA receptor and the association with the curative effects of LFS were evaluated by behavioristics, real-time fluorogenic quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Western blot., Result: After treatment, the number of seizures in LFS group were significantly lower than that in the epileptic and pseudo-surgery groups (2.88 ± 0.83 vs 8.50 ± 0.93 and 8.88 ± 0.83) (P < 0.01). The results of real-time PCR demonstrated that the expression of mRNA of α5 subunits in LFS treatment group was obviously higher than that in epileptic and pseudo-surgery groups (0.74 ± 0.20 vs 0.30 ± 0.16 and 0.31 ± 0.16) (P < 0.01), but was lower than 1.10 ± 0.23 in control group. Western blot demonstrated that the protein expression of α5 subunits in LFS (0.75 ± 0.09) and control (0.88 ± 0.09) groups were dramatically higher than that in epileptic (0.22 ± 0.08) and pseudo-surgery (0.26 ± 0.08) groups (P < 0.01)., Conclusion: Low-frequency electric stimulus on hippocampus is effective in controlling epileptic seizures. And the mechanism may be related with the expression level of α5 subunits of extrasynaptic GABAA receptor.

Objective: To explore the expression of α(5) subunit of extrasynaptic GABA(A) receptor in insular electrical kindled rats and analyze its significance., Methods: A total of 96 male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided randomly into kindled, sham-operated and control groups (n = 32). And each group was further divided into 2 sub-groups at different time points. Kindled group: insular electrical kindled via chronic electrical stimulation; Sham-operated group: electrode implantation without electrical stimulation;, Control Group: no operation at all. The number of hippocampal neurons was detected by Nissl staining; the mRNA of α(5) subunit of hippocampus by quantitative-polymerase chain reaction (q-PCR); the expression of α(5) subunit of hippocampus by immunohistochemistry., Results: No significant difference existed in the number of hippocampal neurons between epileptic and normal rats (P > 0.05). The mRNA levels of α(5) subunit of hippocampus in the sham-operated and control groups were much higher than that of the kindled group at Day 1 and 7 post-sacrificing (P < 0.01). And the hippocampal expressions of α(5) subunit were much more in the sham-operated and control groups than that of the kindled group at Day 1 and 7 post-sacrificing (P < 0.01)., Conclusion: The hippocampal expression of α(5) subunit decreases markedly in insular epilepsy. And α(5) subunit may play an important role in the occurrence and development of insular epilepsy.

Objective: To investigate the incidence and prognosis of drug-induced acute renal failure (ARF) in Shanghai., Methods: The registration forms of ARF patients admitted in 17 hospitals of and over the middle class in Shanghai from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2006 were screened prospectively. The data, such as epidemiology, survival, mortality, and morbidity were analyzed., Results: 347 of the 1200 ARF patients (28.9%), 224 males and 123 females, aged (58+/-20), suffered from drug-induced ARF. 51.0% of the 347 patients were older than 60. 60.2% of the drug-induced ARF in the non-surgical departments were community-acquired, while 55.7% of the drug-induced ARF in the surgical departments were hospital-acquired. Among the non-surgical departments, the incidence of hospital-acquired drug-induced ARF was the lowest in the department of nephrology (9.5%), while higher in the departments of hematology, cardiology, and neurology, and among the surgical departments, it was the lowest in department of renal surgery, while higher in the departments of liver transplantation, neurosurgery, and cardiovascular surgery. The most common complication was chronic kidney disease (CKD) (n=69, 19.9%), followed by cerebrovascular disease (n=59, 17.0%), diabetes mellitus (n=43, 12.4%), and hypertension (n=41, 11.8%). Renal biopsy showed acute tubular necrosis (18, 37.5%), acute interstitial nephritis (11, 22.9%), and acute infectious tubulo-interstitial nephritis (6, 12.5%). Antibiotics (47.8%) were the head causes of drug-induced ARF, especially aminoglycoside (17.0%) and cephalosporins (12.7%), followed by diuretics (22.2%) and radiocontrasts (13.3%). 22.5% of the drug-induced ARF patients had used two or more drugs. 119 patients (34.3%) needed renal replacement treatment. 100 of the 347 patients (28.8%) died. 188 of the surviving patients (54.2%) had their renal function recovered completely, the renal function of 42 of them (12.1%) was recovered partially, and 17 of then (4.9%) required dialysis when discharged., Conclusion: Drug-induced ARF is common with higher incidence in the patients with complications. Antibiotics, diuretic agents, and contrast medium are the main causes.

Objective: To investigate the prognosis after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT), and to elucidate the risk factors of poor prognosis in these patients., Methods: Adult recipients of OLT in Renji Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University were retrospectively analyzed. Data in pre-, intra- and post-OLT periods of these patients were collected. Acute kidney injury net (AKIN) criteria were used to analyze the post-OLT acute kidney injury (AKI). By following up all the patients for over a year, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to evaluate the prognosis within 28 days and 1 year. Cox regression analysis was performed to evaluate risk factors of patient death, especially the influence of AKI on patient prognosis., Results: There were 193 patients enrolled, the average age was (48.07+/-10.02) years old. The ratio of male to female was 4:1. One hundred and sixteen patients (60.1%) were found to have AKI after OLT. Twenty-eight-day mortality of post-OLT AKI patients was higher than that without AKI patients [15.5%(18/116) vs. 0, P<0.05], 1 year survival rate of post-OLT AKI patients was lower than that without AKI patients [(70.7% (82/116) vs. 90.9 (70/77), P<0.05). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed the survival rate of non-AKI (77 patients), AKI stage 1, 2 and 3 patients (58, 25 and 33 patients respectively) post-OLT were 90.9%, 81.0%, 84.0% and 42.4%, respectively. All the non-survivors were discovered to have AKI within 28 days post-OLT. Cox regression analysis showed pre-OLT hypertension [hazard ratio (HR)=4.398, 95% confidence interval (CI)ú 1.535-12.604, P=0.006], post-OLT AKI (HR=12.100, 95%CI: 1.565-93.540, P=0.017), infection (HR=4.709, 95%CI: 1.813-12.226, P=0.001) and acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II (APACHE II) score > or =10 (HR=3.627, 95%CI: 1.244-10.573, P=0.018) were risk factors of 1 year death., Conclusion: AKI is an independent risk factor of poor prognosis after liver transplantation. Prevention of AKI may improve the survival rate of OLT patients.

Objective: To compare the diagnostic value study the technique of ultrasonography, magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in common duct stones., Methods: Three hundreds and eighty-four patients suspected common duct stones from August 2005 to October 2007 were undergone abdominal ultrasonography, MRCP and ERCP., Results: There was stone in common duct in 370 and no stones in 14 of 384 patients. Ultrasonography indicated stones 268 cases, 8 false positive result was among them. MRCP diagnosed stones in 362 cases and false positive result in 6 cases, ERCP diagnosed stones 370 cases. The diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonography, MRCP and ERCP was 70.3% (260/370), 96.2% (356/370) and 100% respectively., Conclusions: The diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonography for common duct stone was little higher, US should be used as a primary checking method. There was higher concordance between MRCP and ERCP for common duct stone. Combination of MRCP and ERCP can improve diagnostic accuracy of common duct stone.

Carboxypeptidase B is a metalloenzyme, which is widely used for commercial and research purposes. Commercially available CPB purified from porcine or bovine pancreas is very expensive, and is not totally free from other proteases. In order to express the rat proCPB in Pichia pastoris, total RNA extracted from SD rat pancreas cells was reversely transcripted to synthesize cDNA, and the proCPB ORF was synthesized by PCR. After digestion with Xho I and EcoR I , the fragment was inserted into pPIC9, and the recombinant plasmid was named as pPIC9-proCPB. By digestion with Sac I , the lined pPIC9-proCPB was transformed into Pichia pastoris strains GS115 with PEG1000 and integrated into their genomes. In the inducement of methanol, recombinant proCPB was successfully expressed in Pichia pastoris, and could be secreted into the supernatant in the culture. After optimizing the fermentation conditions, a higher production could be obtained when GS115-proCPB was induced in BMGY (pH6.0) at 28CC, with addition of 0.5% casein. The yield of recombinant protein reached 500mg/L, achieving over 94% of total protein in the culture supernatant. The purity of recombinant CPB can reach 96% after two step phenyl sepharose F F purification, and 38% of total protein can obtained after optimizing the pufication method. Comparing to the specific activity 180u/mg of CPB purchased from Sigma, the specific activity of recombinant CPB is 110u/mg. Mass spectrometry analyses showed the mass of the recombinant CPB was 35.1 kD, which is very close to the theory value 35.2 kD. Amino acid sequencing of N-terminal of recombinant CPB further indicated proCPB was expressed successfully and modificated correctly after translation.
