In order to develop an AOX-free modification technology for wool, sodium isocyanate was used to react with hydrogen peroxide to produce percarbamic acid, which can change the structure and properties of wool. Felting property, SEM and AllwÖrden reaction, whiteness, wettability and the dyeing properties of acid dyes were measured. The results showed that sodium cyanate can react with hydrogen peroxide to generate percarbamic acid, which has a strong oxidation and activate the process on oxidative modification of wool. The scales of wool fiber and the surface cell membrane were corroded and damaged after treatment, which can decline shrinkage of wool, and improve the initial dyeing rate and dye uptake, as well as the whiteness and wetting properties of wool fibers.
