This paper introduces the current status of domestic and international research on PHA synthe¬sis by organic acid compounding, elucidates the metabolic pathway of PHA synthesis by VFAs, and concludes that the monomeric composition of PHA is directly influenced by the odd-even number of acids in VFAs. The change pattern of VFAs components during anaerobic fermentation of organic waste was discussed, and the performance and yield changes of PHA synthesized by different VFAs components were summarized, pointing out that increasing the masa fraction of odd-numbered acids and increasing the proportion of HV monomers are important ways to optimize the performance of PHA. By summarizing the various regulatory strategies of VFAs, the research directions for the synthesis of high-quality PHA were clarified.
