Visual question answering(VQA) is a multi-modal task that combines computer vision and natural language proces-sing,which is extremely challenging.However,the current VQA model is often misled by the apparent correlation in the data,and the output of the model is directly guided by language bias.Many previous researches focus on solving language bias and assisting the model via counterfactual sample methods.These studies,however,ignore the prediction information and the difference between key features and non-key features in counterfactual samples.The proposed model can distinguish the difference between the original sample,the factual sample and the counterfactual sample.In view of this,this paper proposes a paradigm of contrastive learning based on counterfactual samples.By comparing these three samples in terms of feature gaps and prediction gaps,the VQA model has been significantly improved in its robustness.Compared with CL-VQA method,the overall precision,average precision and Num index of this method improves by 0.19%,0.89% and 2.6% respectively.Compared with the CSSVQA method,the Gap of the proposed method decrease to 0.45 from 0.96.

An experimental device of belt centralized control system was developed by use of AT89S52 single-chip microcomputer and(VB6.0) software development platform under background of design and application of belt centralized control system of coal mine.The experimental device has a friendly monitoring interface of upper computer,and the upper computer can communicate with the single-chip microcomputer by RS232C and real-timely monitor faults of belt deviation,over speed,temperature,tearing and others.The experimental device reproduces actual working environment and process of belt transport system of coal mine in laboratory,it not only can be applied in actual production,but can train students' innovation awareness and capacity through the secondary development.

investigate the dependence between the temperature field distribution and ampacity of submarine umbilical cables and improving the reliability of operation, the finite element method was used in this paper to solve the limitation of traditional thermal circuit analytical method. The software of ANSYS was used to analyze the submarine umbilical cables models with complex structure, and results of the whole temperature field distribution were shown in the paper. Finally, the most appropriate configuration of umbilical cable is decided by comparing the difference of temperature field distribution in different cables, and by comparing the effect of different insulating and sheath materials on distribution of temperature field and ampacity of umbilical cable. Various derivative technologies based on PCR for nucleic acid detection have emerged with the continuous development and the diverse needs of molecular biology technology. Digital PCR (dPCR) is a nucleic acid detection method for large scale amplification based on a single molecular template, which runs an individual PCR reaction using chambers/wells or droplets. dPCR can be used for absolute quantification for the initial concentration of samples without calibrator and drawing standard curve, showing the characteristics of high sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. In this review, we introduce the history of technology development, principle, and instrument platform types of digital PCR in detail. Then, we summarize the application of this technology in GMO quantification, disease diagnosis, environment and food supervision. Finally, we describe the application prospect of dPCR, providing a reference for the development and utilization of this technology in the future.

Objective: To determine the associations between stress coping strategies and perceived social support in young patients with gynecologic cancers., Methods: The study was conducted in young patients with gynecologic cancers who were admitted to the West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University from January 2014 to January 2015. Data were collected using three questionnaires, tapping into clinical features, multidimensional scales of perceived social support (MSPSS), and coping strategies with stress [including effective coping ways (ECW) and ineffective coping ways (ICW)]., Results: A total of 236 patients completed the questionnaires. Those with a job, fare incomes, or higher levels of education were more likely to get higher total MSPSS scores and lower ICW scores compared with those unemployed, less than expenditures or primary school level (P < 0.05). ECW scores increased with increasing levels of total MSPSS scores (r = 0.247, P < 0.05) and support from family (r = 0.324, P < 0.05), friends (r = 0.172, P < 0.05), and significant others (r = 0.183, P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Social support from family members is the main source of young women with gynecologic cancers in coping with stress.

Objective: To identify risk factors for Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC-Kp) colonization in neonates hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)., Methods: A case-control study was conducted. The case group included nine patients colonized with KPC-Kp between 1 August 2012 and 31 April 2013 and the controls were selected randomly from patients without KPC-Kp colonization during the same period. Univariable analysis and multivariable logistic regression analysis were conducted to identify risk factors for KPC-Kp colonization., Results: The univariable analysis showed 11 factors associated with KPC-Kp colonization: gestational age, birth weight, length of hospital stay, duration of mechanical ventilation, congenital heart disease, peripherally inserted central catheter, surgical operation, duration of intravenous nutrition, carbapenems use, duration of carbapenems use and glycopeptides use. The multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that exposure to more than 4 days of carbapenems use (OR=18.7, 95%CI: 1.98-175.5, P=0.01) was an independent risk factor for KPC-Kp colonization. The intervention to control KPC-Kp colonization included contact isolation, active surveillance, and rational use of antibiotics., Conclusions: Exposure to prolonged use of carbapenems is an independent risk factor for the development of KPC-Kp colonization in neonates hospitalized in the NICU.

Objective: To study the dynamic changes in macronutrients and energy in human milk from mothers of premature infants., Methods: A total of 339 human milk samples were collected from 170 women who delivered preterm or full-term infants in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital between November 2012 and January 2014. Macronutrients (proteins, fats and carbohydrates and energy were measured using a MIRIS human milk analyzer and compared between groups., Results: In milk samples from premature infants' mothers, the protein levels were the highest in colostrum (2.22±0.49 g/dL), less in transitional milk (1.83±0.39 g/dL), and the least in mature milk (1.40±0.28 g/dL) (P<0.01), and the levels of fats (2.4±1.3 g/dL vs 3.1±1.1 g/dL; P<0.01), carbohydrates (6.4±0.9 g/dL vs 6.6±0.4 g/dL; P<0.05) and energy (55±9 kcal/dL vs 62±8 kcal/dL; P<0.01) were significantly lower in colostrum than in transitional milk. The protein levels in colostrum from premature infants' mothers were significantly higher than those in colostrum from term infants' mothers (2.22±0.49 g/dL vs 2.07±0.34 g/dL; P<0.05). The colostrum from mothers of premature infants with a gestational age of ≤30 weeks had significantly higher protein levels than those from mothers of premature infants with gestational ages of 30(+1)-33(+6) weeks and ≥34 weeks (2.48±0.68 g/dL vs 2.11±0.25 g/dL and 2.22±0.39 g/dL respectively, P<0.05); the energy levels in colostrum from mothers of premature infants with a gestational age of ≤30 weeks group (51±6 kcal/dL) were significantly lower than those in colostrum from mothers of premature infants with a gestational age of 30(+1)-33(+6) weeks (58±8 kcal/d; P<0.05). The carbohydrate levels in transitional milk from mothers of premature infants with a gestational age of ≤30 weeks were significantly higher than those in transitional milk from mothers of premature infants with gestational ages of 30(+1)-33(+6) weeks and ≥34 weeks (P<0.05). The protein levels in mature milk from mothers of premature infants with a gestational age of 30(+1)-33(+6) weeks were significantly higher than those in mature milk from mothers of premature infants with gestational ages of ≤30 weeks and ≥34 weeks (P<0.05)., Conclusions: The levels of macronutrients and energy in milk from mothers of premature infants vary significantly between colostrum, transitional milk, and mature milk. Protein levels are significantly higher in colostrum from premature infants' mothers than in colostrum from term infants' mothers, but the significant difference is not seen for mature milk. Macronutrient and energy levels show significant differences between milk samples from mothers of premature infants with different gestational ages, so as to meet different needs of premature infants.

Objective: To observe the effect of electrocupuncture (EA) intervention at different time-points of post-modeling on behavior and hippocampal monoamine neurotransmitter noradrenalin (NE), dopamine (DA) and 5-hydroxytrypamine (5-HT) contents in vascular dementia (VD) mice, so as to study its mechanism underlying improvement of VD., Methods: A total of 60 Kunming mice were randomized into sham-operation control (n = 20), VD model (n = 20), EA-day (D)-1 (EA treatment was given from the 1st day on after modeling, n = 10), EA-D-3 (EA was given from the 3rd day on after modeling, n = 10) groups. VD model was established by occlusion of the bilateral cervical common arteries and reperfusion. EA (2 Hz/80 Hz) was applied to "Baihui" (GV 20), "Dazhui" (GV 14),"Zusanli" (ST 36) and "Geshu"(BL 17) for 10 min, once daily for 15 days. Hippocampal NE, DA and 5-HT contents were assayed by fluorospectrophotometry. The mouse's learning-memory ability was assessed by step-down tests., Results: In comparison with the sham-operation control group, the learning-memory ability (marked increase of reaction time and error times, decrease of step-down latency) was apparently lowered in the model group (P < 0.01). The hippocampal NE, DA and 5-HT contents were significantly lower in the model group than in the sham-operation group (P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, the mice's learning-memory ability (marked decrease of reaction time and error times, increase of step-down latency) was significantly increased in EA intervention groups (P < 0.01), and hippocampal NE, DA and 5-HT levels were significantly increased (P < 0.01), and the effect of EA-D-3 group was obviously better than that of the EA-D-1 group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01)., Conclusion: EA can improve the VD mice's learning-memory ability, which is closely related to its effects in up-regulating hippocampal NE, DA and 5-HT contents, and the effect of later EA intervention after modeling is better.

Objective: To analyze the clinical features and influential factors of parenteral nutrition associated cholestasis (PNAC) in preterm infants., Method: A total of 159 infants with birth weight less than 2000 grams and/or gestational age less than 34 weeks were exposed to parenteral nutrition for longer than 14 days in NICU during the period from July 2007 to June 2009. Of these infants, 40 cases who had PNAC were aligned into the PNAC group, and the other 119 cases without PNAC were aligned into the non-PNAC group. PNAC occurring time, duration, the degree of PNAC and hepatic injury were observed. Logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the correlative factors of PNAC., Result: PNAC occurred about (3.3 ± 1.6) weeks after beginning PN, usually lasted for (13.3 ± 5.4) weeks. The maximum direct bilirubin was (135.2 ± 65.5) µmol/L. Of the PNAC patients, 73.7% suffered from hepatic injury. Hepatic injury usually occurred (6.6 ± 3.0) weeks after beginning PN, and lasted for (9.5 ± 5.4) weeks. The highest alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was (121.5 ± 48.4) U/L. The logistic regression of the possible correlative factors showed that time to start enteric feeding, persistence time of PN, asphyxia, small for gestational age, intracranial hemorrhage, were related to PNAC., Conclusion: The prognosis of PNAC was good. Early enteral feeding, shorter time of PN, avoidance of the complications such as asphyxia and sepsis, were the important measures to lower PNAC.

Objective: To review the clinical data of enteral feeding of extremely low birth weight infants (ELBWI), and analyze the influencing factors., Method: From Jan. 2000 to Jan. 2010, data of 31 ELBWI from Peking Union Medical College Hospital were retrospectively collected. ELBWI were assigned to different groups according to the time achieving full enteral feeding, comparison was done between two groups for enteral feeding., Result: Twenty-four infants were analyzed, their mean gestational age was (29.0 ± 1.8) weeks (26.14 - 34.43 weeks), birth weight (882 ± 67) g (730 - 970 g), there were 11 infants in group A, whose time for achieving full enteral feeding was (27 ± 6)days, there were 13 infants in group B, whose time achieving full enteral feeding was (46 ± 10)days. The ratio of asphyxia (18.2% vs. 61.5%, P = 0.047), duration of umbilical vein catheterization longer than 10 days (18.2% vs. 61.5%, P = 0.047), and duration of mechanical ventilation longer than 14 days (27.3% vs. 76.9%, P = 0.038) in group A was higher than in group B. The milk volume on the 21st and 28th day in group A was much more than that in group B [(88.9 ± 35.4) ml vs. (37.4 ± 34.9) ml, P = 0.002; (121.1 ± 37.4) ml vs. (53.2 ± 33.1) ml, P = 0.000]. There were no significant differences between the two groups in gestational age, birth weight, patent ductus arterious, erythrocytosis, dysglycemia, sepsis, the time to begin enteral feeding, the beginning milk volume, the adding milk volume in the 1st, 2nd week, and the milk volume on the 3rd, 7th, 14th day., Conclusion: Asphyxia, duration of umbilical vein catheterization, and duration of mechanical ventilation are likely to influence the enteral feeding of ELBWI, ELBWI with successful enteral feeding could show good tolerance in the 3rd week. But individual program should be made for enteral feeding of ELBWI, because enteral feeding could be influenced by multiple factors.

Objective: To evaluate the effect and results of short and medium periods of follow-up of percutaneous balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty for critical pulmonary stenosis of neonates and infants under 6 months of age., Methods: Between January 2002 and December 2008, 34 consecutive patients aged from 13 to 175 days with critical pulmonary valvular stenosis underwent percutaneous balloon valvuloplasty. Patients records, catheterization data, angiograms and echocardiograms were reviewed. Patients were followed up for 6 months to 4 years (mean 25.5 months) by means of clinical examination and Doppler echocardiography., Results: The pulmonary valvuloplasty was accomplished in 32 (94%) of 34 attempts. Immediately after dilation, right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP) decreased from (96 ± 28) mm Hg (1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa) (49 ± 20) mm Hg (P < 0.01), the transvalvular peak to peak systolic gradient (ΔP) decreased from (89 ± 25) mm Hg to (25 ± 12) mm Hg (P < 0.01), and the right ventricular/aortic systolic pressure ratio decreased from 1.2 ± 0.5 to 0.7 ± 0.3 (P < 0.01). One patient died because of cardiac tamponade following rupture of the pulmonary valve annulus, 2 patients developed pericardial effusion, 3 patients had infundibular spasm, 3 patients had a pre-dilation by small balloon and 1 patient had weakened femoral artery pollex. After a follow up period of 6 months to 4 years 3 of 31 patients lost to follow-up. Repeat valvuloplasty was performed in 5 patients (3 neonates), no patient required surgery, and the other 23 patients did not undergo further intervention, a mean peak systolic Doppler gradient of (20 ± 13) mm Hg was found and no significant pulmonary regurgitation was seen., Conclusions: Percutaneous balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty was effective and safe for the treatment of critical pulmonary stenosis of neonates and infants under 6 months of age with good short and medium term results.

Objective: To analyze and summarize clinical manifestation of maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) of neonates., Methods: Data of two cases with neonatal MSUD and the reports of 15 cases seen in the past 15 years in China were reviewed and analyzed., Results: There was an increasing number of reports of cases with neonatal MSUD. All the 17 cases had the symptom of poor feeding between 3 h and 8 d after birth; 7 cases had family history; 14 cases showed progressive neurologic signs. Odor of maple syrup occurred in 8 cases. Blood levels of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) significantly increased in 13 cases and 6 neonates were diagnosed using tandem mass spectrometry. Urinary levels of BCAA and metabolite elevated in 12 cases and 5 neonates were diagnosed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. MRI/CT demonstrated abnormal signal in 10 cases. Twelve cases died or their parents gave up treatment and one case had cerebral palsy; 4 cases were treated with BCAA-free formula milk and showed improved outcome., Conclusion: Newborns with MSUD often had early appeared non-specific symptoms with poor feeding and lethargy, most cases later showed an odor resembling maple syrup and neurologic signs. For patients who were suspected of having MSUD, blood and urine concentrations of BCAA should be tested for early diagnosis. Specific MRI edema signal from brain suggests the possibility of MSUD. Early intervention and treatment after diagnosis, with compliance of parents, would improve the patient's outcome.

Objective: Severe respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) caused by pulmonary surfactant (PS) deficiency is described not only in preterm infants but also in term babies delivered via caesarean section, especially before the onset of labour (elective caesarean section). Once RDS of term neonates happened, mechanical ventilation is needed, and the infants were at high risk of developing further complications such as persistent pulmonary hypertension of neonates (PPHN), pulmonary air leak and cardiovascular instability, even fatal outcome cannot be avoided. The present study aimed to analyze the association between the elective caesarean section and respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in term neonates, and to determine the related factors and outcomes of RDS cases in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and neonatology ward., Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at the NICU and the Neonatology Ward of A center (Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University) and the NICU of center B (Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Zhejiang University) on 90 term infants who were diagnosed as RDS between June 2006 and June 2008. The general clinical data, mode of delivery, severity of the radiological sign, pulmonary surfactant (PS) application, the onset time and duration of mechanical ventilation, the ratio of PaO(2) to FIO(2) before mechanical ventilation, oxygenation index (OI), duration of oxygen supplementation, the length of hospital stay and complications including pulmonary air leaks (pneumothorax, pulmonary interstitial emphysema), PPHN, systemic hypotension and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) were collected. The gestational age distribution was studied in RDS cases delivered by elective caesarean section, and the comparative analysis and non-conditional logistic regression analysis wer performed for clinical characteristics and risk factors between the RDS cases with or without complications. P < 0.05 was considered to be significant., Results: There were 88 episodes of elective caesarean section in 90 RDS patients. The proportion of elective caesarean section was 97.8% (88/90). The number of RDS cases was reduced gradually with the increase of gestational age and the constituent ratio of RDS at 39 w and at 40 w was significantly lower than that of 37 w and 38 w. By logistic regression analysis, the onset time of mechanical ventilation > 12 h independently predicted complications in RDS of term neonates (odds ratio 12.667, 95% confidence interval, i.e., CI 1.455 to 110.300, P = 0.021). Moreover, there was a significant difference in the admission age (t = 11.833, P = 0.001), severity of the radiological findings (t = 4.85, P = 0.028), PS application (t = 11.911, P = 0.002), the onset time of mechanical ventilation (t =10.051, P = 0.018), the ratio of PaO(2) to FIO(2) before mechanical ventilation (chi(2) = 4.184, P = 0.005), OI > 25 (t = 4.737, P = 0.03), duration of oxygen supplementation (chi(2) = 10.475, P = 0.001), systemic hypotension (t = 11.020, P = 0.01) and the length of hospital stay (t = 9.827, P = 0.002) between the two centers., Conclusion: Severe RDS can occur in term babies after elective caesarean section, gestational age at the time of elective caesarean section may also be important for RDS in term neonates. The onset time of mechanical ventilation > 12 h independently predicted complications in RDS of term neonates. The main complications of RDS in term neonates were PPHN, pulmonary air leaks and systemic hypotension. Early diagnosis, early intervention can significantly reduce the complications, alleviate the severity and shorten their time for oxygen therapy and their length of stay in NICU in term RDS infants.

Objective: Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) isolates are classified into two variants, HHV-6A and HHV-6B, based on distinct genetic, antigenic and biological characteristics. HHV-6 has been associated with encephalitis in children recently. This study aimed to establish a real time PCR assay for simultaneous detection of the two subtypes of HHV-6, and apply this new assay to children with suspected encephalitis, then analyze the relationship between the infection with HHV-6 and encephalitis in children., Method: The universal primers and variant-specific TaqMan probes were designed based on the highly conserved sequences of the DNA polymerase gene (U38) of HHV-6. The 5' end of the probes for HHV-6A and HHV-6B was labeled with the fluorescein reporter tetrachloro-6-carboxyfluorescein and 6-carboxyfluorescein (6-FAM), separately, while the 3' end were quenched with 6-carboxy-tetramethylrhodamine. The real time PCR assay for simultaneous detection of HHV-6A and HHV-6B was established. Then, the plasmids of HHV-6A and -6B which were diluted by a 10-fold series from 10(9) to 10(0) copies/microl, together with controls were used for testing both sensitivity and specificity of the real time PCR assay. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens from 445 cases of suspected encephalitis were tested with this real time PCR and positive samples were then sequenced., Result: Both HHV-6A (strain ZJ-159) and HHV-6B (strain GS) were positive on the real time PCR assay. There were no cross-reaction with herpes simplex virus type 1, type 2 (HSV-1, HSV-2), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), hepatitis B virus, Staphylococcus aureus, Mycoplasma pneumoniae and human DNA. A linear regression curve was obtained when plotting Ct values against the log10 of the viral DNA input for both subtypes of HHV-6. The sensitivity threshold was 10 copies/microl for the real time PCR. HHV-6 positive rate by the real time PCR assay was 4.72% (21/445), including 4 cases with HHV-6A infection, 16 cases of HHV-6B infection and 1 case with mixed HHV-6A and HHV-6B infection. The new PCR assay usually took 2 to 3 hours to provide results., Conclusion: This new real time PCR assay can simultaneously detect both subtypes of HHV-6, and have high specificity and sensitivity. It will provide an early and sensitive diagnosis of HHV-6 encephalitis in children.

In order to explore the educational model of combined research aidding basic medical education and clinical practice, the educational form of combined research, teaching and clinical practice was adopted and brought into the education of medical genetics for medical students. The consequence of five-year educational practice has revealed that the educational effects and quality have been obviously increased, and the deeply activated studying initiative, self-studying ability, ability of cooperation, discovering and creative ability have been achieved in culturing practical general medical students with in-depth basic knowledge, great ability and high quality.

Objective: To explore the effects of S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) on blood lead concentration and oxidative stress of tissue in prenatal and postnatal lead-exposed rats, and evaluate the potential reparation exerted by SAM on paired-pulse facilitation (PPF) and long-term potentiation (LTP) in lead-exposed rat., Methods: Pregnant Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: control, lead-exposed and lead-exposed with SAM treatment groups. Lead-exposed rats drank 1.5 g/L lead acetate solution through pregnancy until weaning and then the pups received 20 mg/kg SAM or saline daily intraperitoneally depending on their group. Control group rats drank tap water throughout the experiment. At the postnatal 44-60 days, all the pup rats were given an extracellular recording measured in dentate gyrus (DG) area of hippocampus. The blood lead concentration and oxidative stress in liver, brain and hippocampus were also detected., Results: The blood lead concentration in lead-exposed group was higher (159. 3 +/- 10. 9 microg/L) in comparing with those of control group (27.5 +/-3.8 microg/L) and lead +SAM group (33.1 +/-9.5 microg/L) (F=213.5, P<0.01). A significant recovery of liver, brain glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) level was clearly produced in lead-exposed rats after SAM treatment (P <0.05). Chronic lead exposure during development impaired LTP measured on field excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP) [(112 +/-2.1)%] compared with control rats [(131+/-4.5)%] and the impaired LTP could be significantly increased by SAM treatment [(120 +/- 2.6)%] (F = 26. 1, P <0. 05)., Conclusion: SAM might be beneficial for treatment of lead intoxication, especially in the rescue of learning and memory impairment induced by lead and should deserve more detailed research.

Objective: To establish a restriction endonuclease pattern which could detect and differentiate four major human herpesviruses by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), DNA cloning and sequence analysis., Methods: A pair of primer, which was designed according to sequences in well-conserved regions of the DNA polymerase gene in human herpesviruses, was designed to amplify herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 (HSVI/II), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV). Sequences of the primers are as follows: P(1) (5'-CGACTTTGCCAGCCTGACC-3') and P(2) (5'-AGTCCGTGTCCCCGTAGATG-3'). DNA of four strains of standard herpesviruses were amplified by PCR, and further studied by DNA cloning, sequence analysis and RFLP. At last, the authors established the PCR-RFLP technique to differentiate the four different herpesviruses. Meanwhile, 75 clinical blood specimens from infants with suspected viral infection and 38 blood specimens from healthy children were evaluated for herpesviruses DNA or virus-specific IgM antibody by PCR-RFLP or by ELISA., Results: The PCR amplified products of four human herpesviruses were from 510 bp to 592 bp in length and were analyzed for herpesvirus types with restriction endonuclease technique. The specificity and sensitivity of this PCR-RFLP were examined. There was no cross-reaction with Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, hepatitis B virus (HBV), Clostridium neoformans and human-genomic DNA and the lowest detection level was 0.1 fg DNA. Among 75 specimens, 23 were positive by PCR and the positive rate was 30.7%, including 13 for CMV, four for EBV, five for HSVII and one for HSVI after restriction enzyme digestion with BamHI and BstUI, while 10 were positive by ELISA and positive rate was 13.3%. All ELISA-positive specimens were likewise positive by PCR. Thirteen of 65 specimens that were ELISA-negative were tested positive by PCR. An infant with CMV infection was determined with viral DNA and virus-specific IgM antibody in blood at 3, 4 and 6 months after birth, respectively. The result showed that she was still CMV DNA-positive in blood whereas IgM antibody was positive only at month 3 after birth. None of the 38 control blood specimens was positive for herpesvirus by this PCR-RFLP or by ELISA., Conclusions: This PCR-RFLP technique was specific, sensitive, rapid and accurate in diagnosing herpesviruses infection in infants, and it could detect herpesviruses DNA in specimens which were negative for IgM antibody by ELISA.
