The regulation of the cell cycle is essential for maintaining normal cellular function, especially in the development of diseases such as lung cancer. The cell cycle consists of four major phases (G1, S, G2 and M phases), which are characterized by a series of precise molecular events to ensure proper cell proliferation and division. In lung cancer cells, cell cycle dysregulation can lead to disordered proliferation and increased invasiveness of cancer cells. G2 and S-phase expressed 1 (GTSE1) is a regulatory protein found in the cytoplasm of the cell, which plays a key role in the cell cycle distribution of a wide range of cancer cells and is involved in life processes such as cell proliferation and apoptosis. GTSE1 affects cell cycle progression by interacting with cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1A (p21) and maintaining the stability of p21, which in turn inhibits the activity of cyclin-dependent kinase 1/2 (CDK1/2). In addition, GTSE1 is also involved in the regulation of tumor protein 53 (p53) signaling pathway. With the assistance of mouse double minute 2 homolog (MDM2), GTSE1 is able to transport p53 from the nucleus to the cytoplasm and promote its ubiquitination and degradation, thus affecting cell cycle and cell death-related signaling pathways. This paper reviews the expression of GTSE1 in lung cancer cells and its effects on lung cancer, as well as its potential mechanisms involved in cell cycle regulation.

As the utilization of computed tomography in lung cancer screening becomes more prevalent in the post-pandemic era, the incidence of multiple primary lung cancer (MPLC) has surged in various countries and regions. Despite the continued application of advanced histologic and sequencing technologies in this research field, the differentiation between MPLC and intrapulmonary metastasis (IM) remains challenging. In recent years, the specific mechanisms of genetic and environmental factors in MPLC have gradually come to light. Lobectomy still predominates in the treatment of MPLC, but the observation that tumor-specific sublobar resection has not detrimentally impacted survival appears to be a viable option. With the evolution of paradigms, the amalgamated treatment, primarily surgical, is an emerging trend. Among these, stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) and lung ablation techniques have emerged as efficacious treatments for early unresectable tumors and control of residual lesions. Furthermore, targeted therapies for driver-positive mutations and immunotherapy have demonstrated promising outcomes in the postoperative adjuvant phase. In this manuscript, we intend to provide an overview of the management of MPLC based on the latest discoveries.

Lung cancer associated with cystic airspaces (LCCA) is a type of lung cancer characterized by the presence of cystic cavities in or around the tumor on imaging. Due to its high potential for misdiagnosis or underdiagnosis, the prognosis of LCCA patients is poor, necessitating further large-scale clinical studies to elucidate its characteristics. Currently, four imaging classification systems exist, and there has been a progressive increase in attention towards LCCA, particularly with regard to the study of its imaging features. The results indicate a correlation between the pathological features and imaging findings of LCCA; however, research on driver gene mutations and molecular subtyping associated with lung cancer remains insufficient. Due to the challenges associated with early diagnosis and the poorer prognosis compared to general types of lung cancer, this paper comprehensively reviews the research progress on LCCA, including its definition, etiology, pathogenesis, imaging features, histological and pathological features, treatment, and prognosis, aiming to serve as a valuable resource for clinical decision-making.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the world today, and adenocarcinoma is the most common histopathological type of lung cancer. In May 2021, World Health Organization (WHO) released the 5th edition of the WHO classification of thoracic tumors, which classifies invasive non-mucinous adenocarcinoma (INMA) into lepidic adenocarcinoma, acinar adenocarcinoma, papillary adenocarcinoma, solid adenocarcinoma, and micropapillary adenocarcinoma based on its histological characteristics. These five pathological subtypes differ in clinical features, treatment and prognosis. A complete understanding of the characteristics of these subtypes is essential for the clinical diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis predictions of patients with lung adenocarcinoma, including recurrence and progression. This article will review the grading system, morphology, imaging prediction, lymph node metastasis, surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy of different pathological subtypes of INMA.

Surgery is currently the most appropriate treatment for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Increasing unilateral or bilateral multiple primary lung cancer being found, segmentectomy has attracted wide attention for its unique advantages in the treatment for such tumors. Ground glass opacity dominant early-stage NSCLC is associated with a good prognosis and can be cured by segmentectomy, however, the treatment of solid-dominant NSCLC remains controversial owing to the invasive nature. With the in-depth study on the lymph node metastasis pathway, radiological characteristics and molecular biology of NSCLC, a large part of solid nodules with certain characteristics can also be cured by segmentectomy. This paper reviews the research status and progress about the indication of segmentectomy.

Backgroud and objective Lung cancer is the most common neoplasmas with a poor prognosis and a low 5-year survival rate. Early screening is an important measure for the prevention and treatment of lung cancer. At present, different countries have issued corresponding lung cancer screening guidelines, but China still lacks guidelines based on Chinese population research. Therefore, the National Cancer Center launched a Multi-center Cancer Screening Program in Urban China. This study analyzed the evaluation of lung cancer risk assessment model and screening effect in urban China of Yunnan, so as to explore the evaluation model of high-risk lung cancer population suitable for China's national conditions and develop lung cancer screening guidelines for Chinese. Methods A questionnaire survey and lung cancer risk assessment were conducted on 165,337 people in 36 street offices in 4 main urban areas of Kunming, Yunnan Province, using cluster sampling method from January 2015 to December 2019. People with high-risk of lung cancer conducted low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening of chest. What’s more, all participants were followed up by active or passive follow-up. Results There were 264 patients were diagnosed lung cancer by pathology, and the overall incidence of lung cancer was 0.16% (264/165,337). Background and Objective Yunnan is a country with a high incidence of lung cancer in China and all over the world, and its morbidity and mortality are still rising. With changes in lifestyle and environment, the clinical epidemiological characteristics of lung cancer are converting. However, the trend of clinical characteristics of lung cancer in Yunnan has not been reported in the past 10 years, and we should start further research. The aim of this study was to explore the clinical characteristics and changes of lung cancer in Yunnan from 2005 to 2014, and to provide a theoretical basis for lung cancer prevention and treatment in this region. Methods A retrospective survey was used to extract the cases of lung cancer patients who were treated in our hospital from 2005 to 2014 by simple random sampling. The sociodemographic and clinicopathological characteristics of the patients were extracted by using a unified and standardized questionnaire. And the statistical analysis of the data was performed. Results A total of 1,000 patients with lung cancer were enrolled, with an average age of (58.1±10.1) years, and the ratio of male to female was 3.08/1.00. The proportion of male patients decreased from 75.0% in 2005 to 66.0% in 2014, while female patients increased from 25.0% to 34.0% (P=0.007). The proportion of patients aged ≥60 years increased from 30.0% in 2005 to 39.0% in 2014, and the proportion of patients under 60 years of age decreased, but there was no statistical difference (P=0.532). Background and objective Lung cancer rates among women in rural Xuanwei and Fuyuan counties in eastern Yunnan province, China, are among the highest in the world, even though almost all women are non-smokers, and they tend to develop lung cancer at a younger age than other locations by roughly 5 yr-10 yr. This study investigated the survival of lung cancer patients among female never-smokers. Methods The female never-smokers, who had lived for many years in Xuanwei and Fuyuan counties, with lung cancer newly-diagnosed between July 2006 to March 2010, were followed up through the end of 2016. Age-standardized relative survival for all cases was calculated using local life table. The Kaplan-Meier method and Log-rank test were used to analyze the relationship between the variables and the prognosis in univariate analysis. Cox regression analysis was employed in the multivariate analysis. Results Among 1,250 total subjects, 1,075 died and the remaining 175 were censored during the follow-up, with a median follow-up period of 69 months (95%CI: 61.9-76.0). Overall, the mean age was (54.8 ±10.9) yr, with variable clinical stages: 3.5% of cases were stage I, 8.7% stage II, 20.7% stage III, 29.7% stage IV, and 37.4% stage unknown. The 645 patients(51.6%) with cyto-histological diagnosis contains 303 with Squamous cell carcinoma, and 231 with adenocarcinoma, 24 with small cell, 43 with other specified type and 39 with unknown histological type. Only 215 (17.2%) patients received surgery, 487 (39.0%) were treated without surgery, and 548 (43.8%) did not receive any specific anticancer therapy. The 5-year observed survival rate and age-standardized relative survival were 8.9% (95%CI: 7.0-10.6), and 10.1% (95%CI: 3.7-20.5) respectively, with a median survival of 13.2 months. The 5-year survival rates were 41.1% for stage I, 22.4% for stage II, 5.3% for stage III, 1.3% for stage IV, 11.2% for missing stage, 17.9% for adenocarcinoma, and 5.6% for squamous cell carcinoma respectively. Background and objective Lung cancer screening is an effective measure to reduce lung cancer mortality. Currently, lung cancer screening is recommended internationally and nationally. China had launched a large-scale early diagnosis and early treatment of rural and urban lung cancer in 2009 and 2012. Yunnan Province participated in related projects in 2009 and 2014, but the results of large-scale lung cancer screening have not been reported in Yunnan Province. In this study, we participated in the National Key Public Health Program, Cancer Screening Program in Urban China and analyzed the results of lung cancer screening in 10,154 urban residents in Kunming, Yunnan Province from 2014 to 2018, and evaluated the screening effect of early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer in urban. Methods A total of 31,824 people with high risk of lung cancer were evaluated with 40-74 year-old population in Kunming. A high-risk group underwent low-dose spiral computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest, and analyze the high risk rate and detection rate. A total of 150,535 questionnaires were completed in 5 years, and 31,824 people with high risk of lung cancer were evaluated. Results The high-risk rate was 21.14%. A total of 10,154 low-dose spiral CT screenings were performed, with a participation rate of 31.91%. Background and objective Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in China. The results from a randomized controlled trial using annual low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) in specific high-risk groups demonstrated a 20% reduction in lung cancer mortality. The aim of tihs study is to establish the China National lung cancer screening guidelines for clinical practice. Methods The China lung cancer early detection and treatment expert group (CLCEDTEG) established the China National Lung Cancer Screening Guideline with multidisciplinary representation including 4 thoracic surgeons, 4 thoracic radiologists, 2 medical oncologists, 2 pulmonologists, 2 pathologist, and 2 epidemiologist. Members have engaged in interdisciplinary collaborations regarding lung cancer screening and clinical care of patients with at risk for lung cancer. The expert group reviewed the literature, including screening trials in the United States and Europe and China, and discussed local best clinical practices in the China. A consensus-based guidelines, China National Lung Cancer Screening Guideline (CNLCSG), was recommended by CLCEDTEG appointed by the National Health and Family Planning Commission, based on results of the National Lung Screening Trial, systematic review of evidence related to LDCT screening, and protocol of lung cancer screening program conducted in rural China. Results Annual lung cancer screening with LDCT is recommended for high risk individuals aged 50-74 years who have at least a 20 pack-year smoking history and who currently smoke or have quit within the past five years. Individualized decision making should be conducted before LDCT screening. LDCT screening also represents an opportunity to educate patients as to the health risks of smoking; thus, education should be integrated into the screening process in order to assist smoking cessation. Conclusion A lung cancer screening guideline is recommended for the high-risk population in China. Additional research , including LDCT combined with biomarkers, is needed to optimize the approach to low-dose CT screening in the future.

Background and objective Indoor air pollution induces asthma, leads to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and may promote lung cancer. Our previous studies found that the accumulation of inorganic particulate matter that is due to indoor air pollution can lead to damage to alveolar cells and activation of signaling pathway, and ultimately provoke tumorigenesis. The aim of this study is to explore the accumulation of inorganics and activation of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB)-inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) signaling pathway of lung tissue in Xuanwei lung cancer patients. Methods From December 2013 to November 2014, 48 cases Xuanwei patients with lung cancer who underwent surgical treatment from the Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University were enrolled in this study and compared with lung cancer patients from other regions. The ultrastructure of postoperative specimens was observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to explore the occurrence of inorganic particles. Serum cytokines were analyzed. Then, the expression levels of NF-κB-p65 protein and iNOS protein in postoperative specimens was explored by immunohistochemistry and Western blot. Finally, 8-OHdG accumulation in lung cancer tissues and urine was measured. Results A large number of nanoscale inorganics were observed in alveolar type II cells and macrophages located in adjacent tissues of lung cancer with Xuanwei patients. Silicon (Si) content was found in inorganic elemental analysis. Background and objective Lung cancer is the type of cancer with the highest incidence and mortality in numerous countries and regions. Establishing an appropriate animal model that can be used to simulate lung cancer etiology, pathogenesis, and similar processes, is urgent. We explore the feasibility of establishing a lung cancer model induced by Xuanwei bituminous coal dust PM10 (particulate matter with diameters of 10 μm or less), which affects bronchial epithelium of tree shrews. Methods The neck skin of adult tree shrews is dissected, and the thyroid cartilage is fully exposed. Subsequently, the weak part at the top of the thyroid cartilage is treated with intratracheal agents by perfusion via a special infusion needle puncture method. Regular X-ray examination and lung tissue biopsy were performed on the sacrificed animals to observe changes in pulmonary imaging and bronchial epithelial cells after perfusion of Xuanwei bituminous coal dust PM 10. Results The tree shrews of the experimental group (exposed to bituminous coal dust) died in a week after perfusion with PM10, whereas no animal died until the end of the experiment in the blank control and the solvent control groups. Sections of lung tissue biopsy of the regularly killed tree shrews were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The lung tissues of tree shrews in the experimental group showed a serial changes caused by bronchial epithelial hyperplasia, such as squamous metaplasia, dysplasia, and early invasive carcinoma, whereas no significant pathological changes were observed in the blank control and solvent control groups. Conclusion Endotracheal infusion of Xuanwei bituminous coal dust PM10 induces lung cancer in tree shrews. Thus, the lung cancer model was established.

Background and objective The high incidence of lung cancer in Xuanwei, China, has become an important restricting factor for livelihood development, thus exerting local social and economic impacts. Coal is the main fuel of the local community and also the main source of indoor pollution. This study aims to explore the coal combustion inhalable fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and its component output differences in different areas of Xuanwei, Yunnan. Moreover, the aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between inhalation of fine particles and high incidence of local lung cancer. Methods For combustion test, coal mines designated as C1, K7 and M30 were collected from LaoLin Colliery of Laibing Town, Huchang Colliery of Baoshan Town, and Taiping Colliery of Wenxing Town in Xuanwei, respectively. PM2.5 of indoor air was weighed, analyzed for elemental composition, and morphologically compared. The pathological specimen of lung cancer patients in Xuanwei who underwent operation was observed through electron microscope. Results The PM2.5 concentrations in indoor air were (8.244 ±1.460) mg/m3 (C1), (5.066±0.984) mg/m3 (K7), and (5.071±1.460) mg/m3 (M30). The differences among pairwise comparisons were statistically significant (P=0.029). The filter impurities of C1 coal seam primarily include Si- and O-enriched compounds. Moreover, three membranes that comprised other elements, including C, S, and Si, were observed. These membranes were evident from the aggregation of silica and a Ca-Al membrane. Compared with that of other coal seams, C1 coal generated a mass of impurities, in which several particles have irregular shape. We found nanoscale fine particles in some specimens of Xuanwei lung cancer patients. Conclusion The produced combustion of C1 coal was different from that of K7 and M30 coal. PM2.5 composition may be associated with the high local incidence of lung cancer.

Nano-silicon dioxide widely distributed in plastic, rubber, ceramics, paint, adhesives, and many other fields, and it is the product of coal combustion. A growing evidence shows that nano-silicon dioxide has certain correlation with respiratory system disease. In this paper, we synthesized existing researches of domestic and abroad, summarized the lung toxicity of nanoparticles. This article are reviewed from the physical and chemical properties of nanoparticles silicon dioxide, exposure conditions and environment, and the pathogenic mechanism of nano-silicon dioxide.

Background and objective The mismatch between pleural space and remnant lung after bilobectomy has been considered as the main reason for the high incidence of postoperative complications in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. The aim of this study is to analyze the differences in postoperative complications between bilobectomy and lobectomy in the right lung of NSCLC patients. Method This study included 528 NSCLC patients who underwent right pulmonary lobectomy. A total of 352 cases that underwent upper or lower right lobectomy (108 upper and 244 lower) were the control group, and 176 cases that underwent bilobectomy (57 upper and middle and 119 lower and middle) were the observation group. A retrospective case-control study was performed on a series of matched NSCLC patients. Cases and controls were matched by age, ppoFEV1%, LEVF%, operation method, cardiac comorbidity, type of postoperative management, and pathological type at a ratio of 1:2. The prevalence of 30-day death, occurrence of cardiac-respiratory complications (hospital-acquired pneumonia, low oxygen concentration, pulmonary embolism, cerebral apoplexy, arrhythmia, myocardial ischemia or infarction, and cardiac insufficiency) and occurrence of space-related complications (atelectasis, air leak more than 5 days, and pneumothorax) were compared between the bilobectomy and lobectomy groups. Result The prevalence of 30-day death was 3.4% (6/176) in the bilobectomy group and 2.3% (8/352) in the lobectomy group. No statistical significance was observed between the two groups. The cardiac-respiratory complication rate in bilobectomy group (23.8%; 42/176) was higher than that in lobectomy group (10.7%; 38/352). The cardiac-respiratory complication rate of the lower and middle pulmonary lobectomy patients in the bilobectomy group (26.5%; 31/119) was significantly higher than that in the lower pulmonary lobectomy patients (4.9%; 12/244). The space-related complications in bilobectomy group and lobectomy group were 20.4% (36/176) and 17.3% (61/352), respectively. No statistically significant difference between the two groups was observed. Conclusion The postoperative cardiac-respiratory complications of NSCLC patients with right bilobectomy are higher than those of the right lobectomy patients, but the prevalence of 30-day death and space-related complication was not statistically different between the two groups.

Background and objective This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the accumulation-associated protein (Aap) gene and transform growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) on the biofilm formation of lung cancer-related Staphylococcus epidermidis (SE). Methods Species identification was performed to isolate SE strains from clinically implanted materials in lung cancer patients. Stable genetic aggregated proteins, which are associated with negative and positive isolates, were obtained. The biofilm-formation ability of the SE Aap gene was determined by PCR. Density gradient method was used to extract peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients with non-small cell lung cancer. After 30 h, these cells were co-cultured with A549 at different TGF-β1 concentrations. The supernatant was then combined with SE Aap+ and SE Aap- strains and co-cultured with a medical silicone rubber. A semi-quantitative adhesion test was performed for each bacterial biofilm formation. Scanning electron microscopy was also conducted to observe the microcosmic condition of this material on the bacterial biofilm surface. Results The Aap gene was closely related to SE biofilm formation. At 10 ng/mL, 20 ng/mL, and 40 ng/mL, SE Aap+ biofilm on the medical silicone rubber surface was thicker in the TGF-β1 group than in the control group. No significant differences were found between TGF-β1 groups. For the SE Aap- strains, no evident biofilm was formed in TGF-β1 and control groups. Conclusion In plant material-related infection of lung cancer patients, SE Aap+ strain easily forms biofilm. Furthermore, TGF-β1 was conducive for the biofilm formation of SE Aap+ strains.

Background and objective Silicon nanoparticles are widely used in daily life. Therefore, they attract increased attention because of their potential biotoxicity to the lungs when inhaled. The aims of this study are to explore the organism distribution and genotoxicity of silica nanoparticles in human bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B). Methods The biodistribution of silica with different particle sizes in human bronchial epithelial cells was observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). DNA damage was detected by single-cell gel electrophoresis (comet assay). Results TEM revealed that SiO2 nanoparticles with different sizes can be uptaken by cells and be localized in the cytoplasm and the nucleus. Background and objective China’s Xuan Wei County in Yunnan Province have the world’s highest incidence of lung cancer in nonsmoking women-20 times higher than the rest of China. Previous studies showed, this high lung cancer incidence may be associated with the silica particles embedded in the production combustion from the C1 coal. The aim of this study is to separate the silica particles from production combustion from the C1 bituminous coal in Xuan Wei County of Yunnan Province, and study in vitro toxicity of naturally occurring silica particles on BEAS-2B. Methods ①Separating the silica particles from combustion products of C1 bituminous coal by physical method, observing the morphology by Scanning Electron Microscope, analysis elements by SEM-EDX, observed the single particle morphology by Transmission Electron Microscope, analyed its particle size distribution by Laser particle size analyzer, the surface area of silica particles were determined by BET nitrogen adsorption analysis; ②Cell viability of the experimental group (silica; naturally occurring), control group (silica; industrial produced and crystalline silica) was detected by assay used the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) method, and the reactive oxygen species (ROS), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were determined after 24 h-72 h exposed to these particles. Results ①The physical method can separate silica particles from production combustion from the C1 bituminous coal, which have different size, and from 30 nm to 120 nm particles accounted for 86.8%, different morphology, irregular surface area and containing trace of aluminum, calcium and iron and other elements; ②Under the same concentration, the experiment group have higher toxicity on BEAS-2B than control groups. Conclusion ①Physical method can separate silica particles from production combustion from the C1 bituminous coal and not change the original morphology and containing trace; ②Naturally occurring silica nanoparticles have irregular morphology, surface area, and containing complex trace elements may has greater toxicity than the silica nanoparticle of industrial produced and crystalline silica.

Background and objective The incidence of Xuanwei lung cancer ranks first in China, and its pathogenesis requires in-depth investigation. This study aims to establish an orthotopic Xuanwei lung cancer severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mouse model and to provide a basic experimental platform for further study. Methods The Xuanwei lung cancer cell line XWLC-05 was inoculated into the lung tissue of SCID mice in high and low doses. The tumor formation rates, tumor characteristics, spontaneous metastases, and survival times of the mice were observed, taking a subcutaneously transplanted tumor as control. Results The tumor formation rates of the orthotopic transplantation of lung cancer cells in high and low doses were 81% and 83%, respectively, among which mice in the high-dose group appeared cachectic on day 13. Extensive invasion and adhesion were observed in the contralateral lung and thoracic cavity, but no distant metastasis was exhibited. Mice with low-dose cells in the orthotopic transplantation group appeared cachectic and distant metastasis occurred on day 25. The tumor formation rates in the subcutaneous inoculation group by the high and low doses of cells were 100% and 94.5%, respectively, and no distant metastasis was observed. Background and objective Xuanwei is an area of the highest incidence and mortality with lung cancer in China. The aim of this study is to determine serum selenium concentrations in lung cancer patients from Xuanwei as well as selenium levels of cancerous tissues, cancer-adjacent pulmonary tissues, and normal pulmonary lung tissues from lung cancer patients, and the relationship between selenium and the high incidence of lung cancer in Xuanwei. Methods One hundred and twenty female adults from Xuanwei were enrolled in the study (60 lung cancer patients and 60 with non-tumor and non-respiratory diseases, respectively) and blood samples were collected. Sixty fresh cancerous tissues and their adjacent as well as normal tissues were collected (31 samples from lung cancer patients living in Xuanwei for more than 2 years and 29 from patients in other regions of Yunnan Province outside of Xuanwei, respectively). Serum and tissue selenium concentrations were assayed using a fluorometric method. Results Women with lung cancer had a mean serum selenium value (55.22 μg/L±13.34 μg/L) of averagely 8.47%, significantly lower than that in subjects with non-tumor and non-respiratory disease controls (60.33 μg/L±13.82 μg/L)(P < 0.05). Selenium concentrations in the tumor tissues (0.105 μg/g±0.034 μg/g) were statistically lower than that of normal ones (0.140 μg/g±0.048 μg/g)(P < 0.05) from lung cancer patients in Xuanwei. Statistical differences had not been found between the cases from Xuanwei and non-Xuanwei district, adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, among Stage I, Stage II, stage III groups. Conclusion Lower serum selenium state was negatively related to the incidence of lung cancer in Xuanwei. It was likely that lower selenium level of lung tissues was potential risk factor to lead to lung cancer.

Background and objective The coal-fired pollution in Xuanwei area has been considered to be local main reason for high incidence of female lung cancer. The aim of this study is to explore the expression of PAH-DNA adducts in lung tissues of Xuanwei female lung cancer patients and to explore the relationship between the large number of coal-fired pollution PAHs materials and the high incidence of Xuanwei female lung cancer. Methods We totally collected each 20 cases of Xuanwei female lung cancer patients, Xuanwei male lung cancer patients, Non-Xuanwei female lung cancer patients and collect each 10 cases of Xuanwei, Non-Xuanwei female patients with benign lung lesions. The cancer tissues, adjacent cancer tissues and normal lung tissues were collected in lung cancer patients and only the normal tissues were collected in benign lung lesion patients. There were total 80 cases and 200 tissues. Immunofluorescence was used to detect the expression of PAHDNA adducts in each group. Image pro-plus 6.0 software was used to analyze the images and part quantified analysis. SPSS 13.0 statistical software was used to analyze the data. Results The positive expression of PAH-DNA adducts in lung cancer tissues, adjacent cancer tissues and normal lung tissues of Xuanwei female lung cancer patients were 90%, 80% and 65%. They were higher than the positive expression of PAH-DNA adducts in Xuanwei male lung cancer patients (35%, 30%, 30%) and Non-Xuanwei female lung cancer patients (20%, 15%, 10%)(P < 0.01). The expressions in lung tissues of Xuanwei female benign lung lesion patients (positive expression is 70%) were higher than it in Non-Xuanwei female benign lung lesion patients (positive expression is 10%). With the direction changing from cancer tissues, adjacent cancer tissues to normal lung tissues, the expressions of PAH-DNA adducts were decreased but had no statistical difference (P>0.05). Conclusion The expressions of PAHDNA adducts in lung tissues of Xuanwei female were higher than which in Xuanwei male and Non-Xuanwei female.

Background and objective Fast track surgery (FTS) is a systematical method to accelerate the recovery of surgical patients by reducing the physical and mental trauma stress of them. The research is to investigate the feasibility of FTS application in lung cancer surgery. Methods A total of 80 cases of lung cancer patients with single leaf lobotomy resection were randomized into two groups. While the experimental group was treated with the conception of FTS, and the control group was treated with the traditional methods. The incident rate of post-operation pain degrees, telecasts, pleural effusion, the post-operation time stay in hospital time and the total cost during hospitalization in two groups were compared respectively. Results In FTS group: the VAS score of post-operation pain at 1 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h and 48 h all significantly decreased compared to the traditional therapy group. The incidence rate of telecast was 10.53%. The incidence rate of pleural effusion was 26.31%. The length of stay after operation was (4±1) d and the total cost was RMB 15 600±7 600. In the control group, the above values were 77.78%, 33.33%, 22.22%, (9±1) d, RMB 23 600±5 400, respectively. The post operation pain (VAS method) of FTS group was remarkablely below the control group. There has significant difference of the incident rate of telecasts, stay time in hospital and the total cast in two groups (P < 0.05). No significant difference was observed in the incident rate of pleural effusion. Conclusion The new methods of FTS can apparently accelerates recovery after lung cancer resection, reduces complications, shorten timestay in hospital and cut down the total cost.

Background and objective To research the effect and practicalbility of lobectomy with bronchoplasty and reconstruction of pulmonary artery by minitrauma-technique for lung cancer. Methods We retrospectibely reviewed our experience on 61 cases being lobectomy with bronchoplasty and bronchoplasty with or without video assisted thoracic small incision surgery for lung cancer from July 2005 to June 2009 from Shandong Provincal Hospital and 46 cases simultaneously by routine posterolateral incision. All patients whose bronchus and/or pulmonary artery were involved underwent the operation and experienced the bronchial sleeve/wedge resection or reconstruction of the pulmonary artery. Results All patients were done operation successfully and there were no operative mortality and no occurrence of anastomosis stenosis as well as fistula. The small incisions’ length was from 8 cm-15 cm while the routine posterolateral incision’s length was 25 cm-35 cm. The patients done the operation of small incision had less postoperative shoulder joint dysfunction and had better quality of life compaired to the patients done the routine posterolateral incision. Conclusion Lobectomy with bronchoplasty and reconstruction of pulmonary artery by minitrauma-technique for lung cancer could finished the same work with the traditional thoracic lateral incision and had less trauma, less pain, less recovery time.

Background and objective The interaction of cell and medical biomaterial is one of the significant factors to affect clinical application of medical biomaterial. This research is to investigate three of suture lines how to affect the proliferation and cell cycle of Lung Adenocarcinoma cell A549. Methods Three of suture lines are respectively cultivated with Lung Adenocarcinoma cell A549, after of 72 hours, to detect absorptance of each groups by MTT method in order to reflect the proliferation of Lung Adenocarcinoma cell A549 and to detect percentage of G1 period cell and S period cell of each of groups by flow cytometry. Results Different of suture lines have effect differently on the proliferation and cell cycle of Lung Adenocarcinoma cell A549 (P < 0.05). The effect of absorbent suture line on the proliferation and cell cycle of Lung Adenocarcinoma cell A549 is strong, the effect of chorda serica chirurgicalis is medium, the effect of slide wire is poor. Different length of each suture line have effect differently on the proliferation and cell cycle of Lung Adenocarcinoma cell A549 (P < 0.05). Conclusion Three of suture line materials have different effect on the proliferation and cell cycle of Lung Adenocarcinoma cell A549, to reflect dose-effect relation.

Background and objective The therapeutic efficacy of late lung-cancer was very poor, and cytokine-induced killer cells (CIK) were paid more attention to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The aim of this study is to get insight into the role of bronchial arterial infusion bronchial arterial infusion (BAI) plus CIK about NSCLC by comparing therapeutic efficacy among BAI, traditional vein chemotherapy and BAI plus CIK, for late NSCLC. Methods A total of 120 patients were enrolled in this study, dividing randomly into three groups: bronchial arterial infusion (BAI), traditional vein chemotherapy and BAI plus CIK. Clinical effects and side effects were estimated after two period of therapy. Results The effective rate (CR+PR%) of combined group is higher than the traditional vein chemotherapy group (66.67%, n=39) and there are significant differences (χ2=4.721, P=0.03); The side effect of rate of BAI plus CIK group is significantly lower than the traditional vein chemotherapy group, and so did the non-bone marrow inhibition side effects (P < 0.05). The tumor progression rate (PD%) of bronchial arterial infusion (BAI) group is higher than combined group (χ2=4.287, P=0.038). There was no difference between the traditional vein chemotherapy group and combined group (χ2=0.082, P=0.775). Conclusion Bronchial Artery Infusion combined with cytokine-induced killer cells is an ideal, safety, effective comprehensive treatment method for late stage lung cancer.

Background and objective Selenium is an essential micronutrient for mammals but toxic in large amounts. Most studies indicate that selenium has inhibitory effect on cancer. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of selenium and reduced glutathione (GSH) combined application on the proliferation and apoptosis of human lung adenocarcinoma cell line XWLC-05. Methods XWLC-05 cells were respectively treated in vitro by four factors (sodium selenite, GSH, sodium selenite+GSH and blank control (RMPI-1640 +10% calf serum) in different concentrations for 24 h. Cell growth inhibition rates were determined by MTT assay, cytomorphology was observed under inverted phase contrast microscope and changes of cell cycle were detected by Flow Cytometry (FCM).
