To make full use of the resource-rich domestic kapok fiber and turn waste into wealth, the kapok fruit, fiber morphology and oil sorption abilities of Quanzhou kapok were studied in comparison with Indonesia kapok. Comparing to Indonesia kapok, Quanzhou kapok has the similar fruit shape and internal structure. The fiber length of Quanzhou kapok is concentrated in 14.5-27.5 mm which is slightly shorter than Indonesia kapok fiber, but the length distribution is more uniform; the fiber fineness centers around 15-35 µm. Epidermis wax mass fraction of Quanzhou kapok fiber was about 1.660%. The average oil sorption capacity of Quanzhou kapok fiber assembly in soybean oil is 41.05 and the average retention rate is 97.48%. The average oil sorption capacity and retention rate in engine oil is 37.85 and 97.97% respectively, higher than that of Indonesia kapok. Kapok fiber assembly could be recirculated fewer than SIC Times for better oil-absorption. The result show that Quanzhou kapok fiber has more excellent oil-absorption ability and can be used as oil-sorbing material. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Natural fiber is a sustainable bio-renewable resource, which can improve the overall road performance of asphalt mixture, especially the anti-cracking and anti-fatigue performance. It delays the early disease of asphalt pavement and has good application prospect. The article introduces the characteristics of natural fibers and the performance enhancement mechanism of fiber asphalt mixtures, reviews the latest research results of natural organic plant fibers and inorganic mineral fibers in asphalt mixtures. In the future, the research and application of plant fibers such as waste fibers and non-wood fibers in pavement should be strengthened, and the problems of compatibility, hydrophilicity and thermal stability of plant fibers should be explored from the surface modification of fibers; in addition, basalt fiber is a high-performance natural inorganic mineral fiber, and its enhancement mechanism and effect on asphalt concrete performance should be studied from the aspects of composite modification, and the research on ceramic fiber or other non-polluting mineral fiber should be strengthened to broaden the choice of polluting high-performance fibers for road, to promote the development of high-performance asphalt mixtures and achieve long life of asphalt pavement. The development of functional fibers has been making remarkable progress. Simultaneously, more novel fiberprocessing methods have become necessary. We developed a fabrication method that gives functionality in side of existing porous fibers. Functional particles can be fabricated in-situ in the central part of the fiber by absorbing the raw material solution and be applying microwave heating in a state where the raw material solution is pressed with immiscible liquids. We demonstrated the synthesis of silver nano particles inside the cotton cloth. In additi on, cons idering the contact of the synthesized fibers with the human skin, it was con firmed that not only organic solvents but also vegetable oils can be applied as immiscible liquids used during synthesis. The present method is widely applicable to various natural porous fibers. It is applicable irrespective of the fiber or fabric form. Moreover, the applicable fun ctional particles are of a wide range from inorga nic materials to various metal nan oparticles, which are expected to be used in various situations in our lives. In recent years, noise pollution is one of the serious social problems, and many efforts have been paid to the development of efficient sound absorbing material. Normal sound absorbing materials are made of inorganic fibers, and inorganic fiber has difficulty with processing after the disposal. From the viewpoint of environmental protection, therefore, sound absorbing material made of natural fiber is expected. Furthermore, normal sound absorbing materials consist of single-layered structure and the sound absorbing properties have a limit level of frequency. Now, it is expected that the multi-layered structure improve the sound absorbing properties. Under these circumstances, eco-friendly and also high performance sound absorbing material with density graded structure was developed by using wool fibers in this study. According to the market demands of high quality, thin and light, natural fiber fabric, with natural fiber as raw material, combined with the unique advantage of Siro-fil yarn, we design and develop a light-weight worsted fabrics. According to the characteristics of raw materials and product requirements, from raw material selection, spinning, weaving process and post finishing aspects, it respectively introduces the production process and key points of product formation. The type of thin compact Siro-fil worsted fabric has the style of elegant, lively hand, good elastic characteristics. This paper expounded both advantages and disadvantages of four methods for using nanomaterials in fiber modification, including the blended spinning method, finishing method, the grafting modification and the in-situ formation method. Under the condition of remain the advantages of natural fiber, the author put forward two ways of functional finishing by using nanomaterilas, namely, introducing discontinuous nanomaterials on the surface of fiber and embedding nanomaterials inside the fiber, and the effectiveness of these methods was verified by testing samples.
