In order to further clarify the key factors affecting the performance of natural fiber flexible actuators, four kinds of fibers with excellent hygroscopic properties, cotton fiber, alginate fiber, viscose fiber and wool fiber, were used as raw materials to prepare a spiral coil structure blended yarn actuator by twisting method. The contraction ratio and work capacity of the actuator were tested by a self-made wet stimulation actuator platform. The actuator performance of stretch responding with wet stimulation prepared from blended yarn was evaluated. Univariate analysis of variance and Plackett-Burman test were designed to study the effects of each factor. The test results show that compared with pure cotton yarn, the actuator contraction ratio of viscose fiber/cotton blended yarn and alginate fiber/cotton blended yarn increases from 11.8% to 21.8% and 20.0% respectively. Compared with wool yarn, the contraction ratio of wool/viscose fiber blended yarn increased from 17.55% to 28.00%. Yarn type, coil number and twist have significant effects on contraction ratio, while load mass, coil yarn number and yarn type have significant effects on work capacity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
