Objective To investigate the post-traumatic growth and illness perception among patients after surgical treatment of oral cavity cancer. Methods: A sample of 110 patients after surgical treatment of oral cavity cancer were investigated by self-made general information questionnaire, Chinese version of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory(C-PTGI)and Brief Illness Perceptions Questionnaire(BIPQ). Results: Of the 110 sending questionnaires, totally 105 questionnaires were retrieved. The overall score of C-PTGI was(50.02±9.79)points, indicating a moderate level of post-traumatic growth among patients. The score of C-PTGI was negatively correlated with overall score of BIPQ(r=-0.301, P<0.01), dimension of cognition(r=-0.270, P<0.01), dimension of emotion(r=-0.302, P<0.01)and dimension of understanding ability(r=-0.193, P<0.01). Conclusion: Higher level of patient's illness perception was related to lower level of post-traumatic growth among patients after surgical treatment of oral cavity cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The relationship between areca nut as a primary carcinogen and oral cancer has been widely concerned. Areca can change the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and autophagy in cells, and the levels of ROS and autophagy are closely related to the occurrence and development of tumors. This paper reviewed the relationships among areca nut, intracellular ROS, and autophagy.

Saliva is being attached great importance for its application in illness diagnosis and have more advantage on the diagnose in oral cavity cancer (OCC). Studies have showed that interleukin (IL) in the saliva could be used as a potential biomarker for OCC diagnosis. Moreover, they have a close connection with tumor genesis, invasion, and metastasis in OCC. Therefore, we reviewed research progress on the relationship between salivary interleukins and OCC.
