The paper presents the conventions set by the International Labor Organization with special emphasis on those conventions covering the issues of health and safety at work as universal, written sources governing modern-day (collective and individual) work relations. It is a natural right (human right, right of man) to enjoy just and favorable working conditions that ensure: the rights to pay and compensation, equal for equal working conditions, i.e. of equal value without any discrimination, equality of men and women, decent life of the workers and their families, safe and healthy working conditions, equal opportunities for promotion, limited working hours, the right to rest and holidays, paid holidays and other rights. Despite the variations in the classification of the conventions, the paper presents the conventions of the International Labor Organization that the Republic of Croatia has ratified, (in the chronological order in which they were adopted, for it is the sequence in the passing of the conventions that testifies to the development of the labor law and the care for the working and living conditions of workers. A separate section of this paper addresses the convention in the field of safety and health at work [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Aim: Hyperkalemia, due to its consequences and accompanying mortality, is an emergency condition that should be recognized and treated as soon as possible. This paper aims to present some of the available diagnostics and treatment methods for hyperkalemia, but also to point out the illogicalities of the insurance fund, which can indirectly lead to fatal consequences for patients. Case report: The patient presented in this paper arrived in time at the Integrated Emergency Hospital Admission where, due to the present symptoms and electrocardiogram findings, hyperkalemia was suspected. The above was confirmed in a short time with the “point of care” device and the treatment was started. The initial treatment consisted of appropriate drug therapy and transcutaneous electrostimulation, then a temporary cardiac electrostimulator was placed and emergency dialysis was performed. Later, heteroanamnesis revealed that the patient mistakenly took two bags of potassium citrate in the morning and in the evening, which consequently led to iatrogenic hyperkalemia. On the discharge letter, just four days before the mentioned event, along with the remaining therapy, the generic name of the drug Kalinor was stated: potassium citrate / potassium hydrogen carbonate 2/2 g 2 eff. and 1 eff. alternately daily. The patient interpreted the effervescent mass as the prescribed morning and evening dose, and the general practitioner had previously replaced the prescribed formulation with potassium citrate produced by JGL. Conclusion: Iatrogenic hyperkalemia is a rare condition, but like many other complications, it can occur due to the incorrect use of the prescribed therapy. In order to improve patient adherence, the use of brand names of drugs that are more understandable to patients should be considered. A general practitioner or a pharmacist must certainly choose a brand medicine when prescribing and dispensing, and the question arises as to why this is not allowed for a hospital doctor. - Abstract
The paper explores the concise genealogy of the political liturgy of the contemporary democratic constitutional state, demonstrating how the symbolic and ritual, mythical and hierophanic feature of premodern political forms persists in transformed social and political conditions as a key element of the contemporary political order. Following the research into the political liturgy of Georges Balandier, Claude Rivière and Roger-Gérard Schwartzenberg, as well as classical sources on the theory of the myth and ritual, such as the research of Mircea Eliade and Ernst Cassirer, the paper attempts to describe some of the key formative elements of political development, especially the transposition from premodern political forms towards the creation of modern political institutions, and their ritual and mythical foundation. In the paper, this shift and political change is compared with the concept of conversio morum, as a translatio religiae, and their use in a new political context and narrative. The author argues that modern democratic politics is strongly marked by the mythical and the ritualistic, despite the notion that the role of the mythical and the ritual had ended with the establishment of a political order that is legitimized through the rational realization of political goals and which does not seek reasons for its legitimation outside the political context. In doing so, the influence exerted by the Christian liturgy on the formation of the political liturgy of both pre-modern and modern political orders is particularly valued. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
According to the 2011 and 2021 population censuses, the Archdiocese of Đakovo-Osijek lost 78,885 Catholic believers or 16.88%. The demographic decline is particularly evident in rural parishes. The demographic decline, the rural exodus, i.e., the mass departure of the rural population to the cities and richer countries of the European Union, have been greatly changing and influencing the value-identity-religious structure of rural parishes. The paper starts with an exploration of the demographic breakdown and goes on to identify the emerging characteristics of parishes in the countryside and points to new circumstances in pastoral work. Thus, the third part of the paper elaborates on four pillars around which and on which it is necessary to build contemporary pastoral care in rural parishes; insufficient number of priests, synodality, subsidiarity and co-responsibility, and fostering a culture of meeting in pastoral activity, specifically the design of new pastoral units structured by several rural parishes that have become active centres of socio-cultural, neo-traditional »new-rural« religious life, based on capillary and categorical pastoral approach, to create religious cohesion and new religious identification. - Abstract
The aim of this paper is to reflect on the essence (nature) of democracy, which is widely considered the best form of government. Although democracy is generally considered to be a kind of unquestionable value, there is no agreement on the answer to the question of its essence. The author seeks to outline the answer to that question in the light of the philosophy of Jacques Maritain, a great French philosopher and one of the most famous Thomists and personalists of the 20th century. Maritain also considered democracy to be the best form of government because it is the most adequate to the dignity of the human person, which is created in the image of God. For Maritain, democracy therefore reflects trust in human nature, and he sees the Gospel’s spirit of freedom and the hope of the Gospel’s brotherhood as the essence of democracy. The paper assumes that the true knowledge about the nature of democracy is a kind of antidote to antidemocratic and totalitarian aspirations. Maritain calls for democracy of a personalistic and pluralistic type, and opposes it to the modern, liberal and individualistic understanding of democracy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The paper explores contemporary challenges related to the development of artificial intelligence and its influence on theological-anthropological reflection. The main idea is oriented to the analysis of the transhumanist movement with its promises of cybernetic immortality and the enhancement of the human species. Starting from some characteristics of that movement, the author analyses its implications for Christian anthropology. The paper is divided into three parts. The first chapter, »Some characteristics of the transhumanist era«, analyses transhumanism as a transhumanism as a melioristic philosophy in which the Promethean challenge can be easily recognized. The second chapter entitled »Artificial intelligence and/for a new understanding of man« explains the monistic and dualistic approach to human reality and seeks to answer the question of whether a machine can think. The issue of dataism as the belief that organisms are algorithms that can be controlled is highlighted here. The power of data would lead to the supremacy of artificial intelligence that is attributed with divine properties. The third chapter, »Man’s creation in the image of God versus the creation of artificial intelligence in man’s image« deals with the key theological-anthropological question about man’s value and specificity. Various interpretations of man’s creation in the image of God are firstly explored, followed by an analyses of the sense in which artificial intelligence can be considered as a creation in man’s image. The concluding part brings some theological thoughts, at the centre of which is the danger of idolatry and the question of the inviolable dignity of man. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The subject of the paper is the consideration of the criminal offence of violent behaviour in the criminal material law of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the theoretical, normative, and practical aspects. The paper first analyses the historical development of the criminal offense of violent behaviour in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The central part of the paper is a detailed analysis of the criminal offence of violent behaviour in Bosnia and Herzegovina from de lege lata aspect. Special reference is given to the semantic contextual analysis of the provision and the presentation of possible modalities of actions for committing this criminal offence, the consequences of the offence and the presentation of the legal position of court practice. The paper presents a criticism of certain court decisions in which the significance of the consequences of the “act of threat to civil peace“ have been unjustly reduced. Finally, de lege ferenda proposals are presented with the aim of more fully regulating the criminal offence of violent behaviour in Bosnia and Herzegovina. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The paper deals with certain aspects of consumer protection under misdemeanour law in the Croatian law. In general, consumer protection in the Croatian law is achieved through different legal sources and several different consumer protection mechanisms. By analysing these regulations and methods of consumer protection, one tries to conclude on the adequacy of consumer protection through misdemeanour sanctions, bearing in mind the protected legal good and the purpose of sanctions. The paper is based on the fact that the general norms of misdemeanour law derive from the Misdemeanour Act and that the goal is to investigate the peculiarities deviating from the existing regulation. The research reveals some specificities and distinctive features of misdemeanour sanctions and misdemeanour proceedings aimed at protecting consumers. Firstly, the focus of protection is on the consumer, who is not uniformly defined in all regulations that foresee misdemeanours. Furthermore, the permissibility of protecting certain legal interests (life, health) by misdemeanour regulations that govern consumer protection is analysed. Additionally, attention is drawn to the shortcomings of the existing framework of misdemeanour sanctions, arising from the implementation of various directives and other European sources aimed at protecting consumers that aim to introduce effective, appropriate, proportional, and deterrent sanctions into national law. Further harmonisation of the sanction framework has been achieved through the recent transposition of Directive (EU) 2019/2161, which introduces new criteria for determining sanctions. It also emphasises the application of the non bis in idem principle, which is relevant to national law. Additionally, as a special feature of misdemeanour consumer protection, the principle of opportunity has been analysed in the study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The concept of usufruct as an independent right, ius in re aliena, was not questioned in Justinian’s sources, while on the other hand, its systematisation, development, and legal nature in analyses of classical law were the subject of serious debates among Romance experts, mainly in Italian Romance studies from the beginning of the 20th century. Some experts in Romance studies understood usufruct as pars dominii, i.e. part of the property right that the owner retains for himself, thereby denying him the position of a special right. Such a concept originates from the glossator and post-glossator schools and, the paper analyses strong reflections of their teaching on contemporary legal doctrine. The paper deals with the concept and definition of usufruct and conducts analysis into the legal sources and reasons that led to differences in the understanding of the legal nature of the institute in the Roman legal tradition. - Abstract
Looking into recent literature and relevant ethnological material, this paper aims to present the traditions and customs of »ljelje« - queens from Gorjani. It is about the processions of girls through rural areas and the performance of dance and song choreographies characteristic of Slavonia but also some other European localities. The spring procession of ljelje/queens from Gorjani has a long tradition, and it is considered that in Gorjani, compared to other places, the custom has been well preserved and documented, and it is included on the UNESCO representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. There are various theories about the origin of the ljelje/queens custom, but there is still no fully verified answer to its origin and meaning. Regarding the custom of ljelje/queens from Gorjani, we distinguish between two periods, the first until 1966 and the second after 2002. The reason lies in the thirty-six-year break in the performance of the custom and the slightly adapted performance in today's times. The credits for reviving and promoting the ljelje/queens go to the members of the cultural and artistic society »Gorjanac.« Since 2006, the society »Gorjanac« has been continuously staging performances in the village of Gorjani and on world stages. In addition to the custom itself, the symbol of identity and recognition of ljelje/queens is their folk costume with associated props. The paper brings detailed descriptions of customs, folk costumes, and other specificities of the ljelje/queens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose. The aim of this paper is to present example of good practice implemented by the Public Library „Petar Preradović“ in Bjelovar. In the context of Sustainable Development Goals, the library designed a local community based program „Go Green“ that includes workshops, exhibitions and lectures. The program emphasizes the important role that libraries have in promoting sustainable development and providing educational content for citizens. Approach/methodology/design. Relevant best practice examples show practical implementation of programs promoting sustainable development and designed for the entire local community. Practical use. Activities carried out through the „Go Green“ program are designed for the entire local community, not just library users. Based on the examples presented, other libraries can develop their own green programs with the aim of promoting environmental literacy within their local community. Originality. As part of the „Go Green“ program in 2022, „The Seed Library“ was launched as the first of its kind in Croatia within a public library. There is no previous mention of such activities in public libraries in domestic professional literature, making this paper useful for further research and education of librarians on green literacy through biological diversity. - Abstract
Purpose. The purpose of the paper is to promote the travelogue as a literary genre and form with cultural context, using it as a literary template for sensitizing children and young people to multiculturalism and culturally diverse society through an innovative program entitled „Children of the World“ designed by the Ivan Goran Kovačić Library. Approach/Methodology/Design. Motivated by the sensitive issue of migrations, the changing demographic structure of the population and the responsibility to participate in the process of creating a culturally diverse society, authors present a program that was designed, developed and implemented by Children's department of the Ivan Goran Kovačić Library, Zagreb City Libraries. Social significance. The social significance of the paper implies the promotion of equality in the provision and adaptation of library services according to the needs of the changing structure of the population, emphasizing the role of the library as a space that welcomes the concept of multiculturalism and cultural diversity while acting from the position of a mediator between the individual and society, i.e. as support for the creation of a cohesive society. Results. Specially designed travel lectures confirmed the need for services and programs that encourage cultural tolerance, indicated the positive aspects of cooperation with local community and supported the goals and mission of the Zagreb City Libraries by promoting critical thinking and emphasizing the right to free access to information as a way of supporting personal and social development through non-formal and informal learning. - Abstract
Goal. The primary goal of the paper is to present the research methodology of lost serial publications published by Croats in Australia, using the example of the publications Dom i svijet from 1932 and Caritas Croata from the 1950s. The first publication was mentioned in the literature, but lost and unavailable to the public. The second publication was not mentioned in the literature nor could it be found by searching the catalogues of public institutions. The secondary goal of the work is to identify the reasons for the unavailability and to indicate possibilities of researching old material that is not available in libraries and other public institutions but is a significant part of Croatian heritage. Approach/methodology. Methods used in finding and researching publications unavailable in libraries include structured searches of online and offline catalogues, content analysis of primary and secondary publications and online sites, community involvement and research of private collections. Results. The paper presents the newest results of research conducted during 2023 and early 2024 as part of the Croatian Emigrant Press project, during which physical copies of two serial publications were found. These publications are included in the bibliography created as part of the project, digitized and stored in open access repository. Based on these publications, research methods are proposed that can serve as a basis for researching other similar (lost) publications. Originality/value. The serial publications described in the paper were lost and inaccessible to the public for decades. Therefore, the discovery of these publications contributes to the preservation of Croatian cultural heritage. Since the publications are digitized and available in an open access repository, they can serve as a starting point for further interdisciplinary research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose. Main objective of the paper is to present availability and loan statistics of works written by Nobel Prize laureates in Literature from 2000 to 2022 in ten Croatian public libraries but also to determine and analyze time periods during which the works were published, type and language of published materials. Methodology. Authors conducted the research in February 2023 by literature search method of library collections and library catalogues. A quantitative analysis of data on the availability and loan statistics was collected from catalogues of ten public libraries in diff erent parts of Croatia. Data collected refers to the period from February 10, 2022 to February 10, 2023. Findings. Research results show that all libraries off er a significant number of titles and copies of literature in question meaning that it is available to library users regardless of the size of the place they live in. Results also show that libraries in bigger cities have more diff erent titles and copies of works written by Nobel Prize laureates in Literature resulting in increased loan statistics. They also have more diverse collections of literature in the languages and time periods in which they were published, and regarding the types of library materials. Practical implications. Library staff can use insights gained by this research to improve collections of works by Nobel Prize-winning authors. Social significance. The paper indicates the important role public libraries have in ensuring equal access to quality literature, creating equal and favorable conditions for learning and informing their users throughout Croatia. Originality/value. Research subject and results are presented for the first time from this perspective. Further related studies are suggested, one being on whether library size can impact various features of its collections. Also, authors presented a method of collecting data on loan statistics that can be useful to other researchers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OPEN access publishing , *INTERNET surveys , *ATTITUDE (Psychology) - Abstract
Open access (OA) publishing has become the dominant form of scientific communication. According to an earlier research, the share of OA in the total number of internationally visible papers by Croatian authors is 74 %. This study investigates the attitudes and publication practices of Croatian authors towards OA through a survey conducted among members of the znanstvenici.hr mailing list in early 2023. The survey aimed to determine their support for OA publishing, recognition of its positive and negative aspects, motives for choosing OA publishing, funding sources, and preferences for certain OA publishers. A total of 1,041 participants responded to the survey, with 763 fully completing the questionnaire. The majority of respondents (over 60 %) were active in the fields of sciences, social sciences, and engineering. Analysis of their publication output during the 2021-2022 period revealed that 43.6 % of respondents did not publish a single article in a Croatian journal, with the highest proportion (71 %) observed in the sciences. In contrast, 9.7 % did not publish in foreign journals, with 32 % of these respondents coming from the humanities. Among those who published in foreign journals, approximately 50 % published at least one paper in subscription journals, and the same proportion published in fully open access journals with article processing charge (APC) payments. One-fifth of the authors published their papers for free in fully open access journals, either through invitation or by utilizing coupons for free publication. Coupons were the most commonly used source for APC payments. The majority of respondents (75 %) expressed support for OA publishing and acknowledged its advantages in scientific research and the educational process. Over 80 % of respondents agreed that OA facilitates faster and more efficient dissemination of new knowledge, and increases readership, and enhances the visibility of research papers. However, when selecting a journal for publication, respondents were primarily motivated by the journal’s reputation and impact rather than its open access status. Nearly one-third of the surveyed authors believed that OA increases the commercialization of scientific publishing and that the rising number of publications diminishes the quality of peer review. Attitudes towards publishing in fully open access journals operating exclusively with the APC financing model varied among respondents. Those with a positive attitude were motivated by the speed of peer review and publication process, while those with a negative attitude believed that publishers of APC-charging OA journals prioritize profit over the quality of published articles. Additionally, some respondents mentioned that they could not afford to pay APC, or chose not to pay due to their opposition to any obstacles hindering the publication of scientific results. The survey results indicate that Croatian authors, even when lacking sufficient means, are more inclined to pay publication costs rather than ensuring open access through archiving their papers in public digital repositories. This paper primarily aims to address aspects related to regional development in Romania, which has become a challenge both at the national and global level. The way regional development is approached is different, depending on the particularities of each country, as well as the governing ideologies in each state. However, the goal is common, one aims at shaping a competitive and strong economy, a high standard of living, access to education and medical assistance. The purpose of the paper is to compare socio-economic indicators from two time periods, to highlight similarities and differences and to observe their evolution within a 10-year timespan. The method used is Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to identify groups of statistical indicators (variables) that explain the level of development within a sample, in our case the development regions of Romania. In the context of regional development, PCA can be applied to extract relevant information about economic, social or demographic variability in different regions of the country. Several objectives of regional development analyzed through the lens of this method were pursued: identification of regional disparities, optimization of resource allocation, evaluation of the determining factors of economic development, monitoring of the impact of regional policies. Following the PCA analysis, it was observed that regional development cannot be evaluated by means of variables belonging to a single sector. This method allowed the identification of the variables that have the greatest weight describing economic, social, educational and infrastructure aspects. PCA was applied for two time periods and similar situations were obtained, the first main component called by the authors the economic statistics includes for both periods the indicators: Gross average nominal salary gain, GDP by development regions, Employees from research and development activity at the end of the year, Beds in health facilities (state and private). The second component was called social statistics and includes the indicator Employment rate in working age (15-64 years), and the third component called agricultural statistics includes the indicator Population served by the public water supply system. As a conclusion, we consider that the situations are not overlapping because there are indicators that have undergone changes during the 10 years, which is expected and normal in regional development. For example, the number of graduates decreased due to the continuously decreasing birth rate, the vacancy rate decreased in 2018-2019 compared to 2008-2009 because Romania went through the financial economic crisis.

When Austria-Hungary occupied Bosnia and Herzegovina, it brought many social and cultural changes. One of them was suppressing the widespread culture of holding and carrying arms that existed in Ottoman Bosnia. Holding arms was still possible but under strict control. Firearm holders were, therefore, a very tiny, privileged group inside society. In this paper, we analyze the ethnic/religious and social structure of this group in the case of the Tuzla Circle in 1904. How large was this group? Were there differences along ethnic and social lines in terms of firearm holding rates? These are the key questions we are seeking answers to in this paper, with an aim to get the first insight into the broader picture of firearm holding in the entire province under the Monarchy’s control.

WOMEN patients , *NASAL septum , *OTOLARYNGOLOGY - Abstract
Aim: We present a case of a female patient diagnosed with inverted papilloma of the nasal septum and retrospective analysis of previous experiences in the treatment of patients with sinonasal inverted papilloma. The patients were treated at the Clinic for Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in the Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka. Case report: A 30-year-old patient with difficulty in breathing through the nose and frequent epistaxis came for an otolaryngological examination in 2022. Nasal endoscopy revealed a perforation in the anterior regions of the septum. Diagnostic process included mucosal biopsy, imaging, and blood tests to screen for c-ANCA and p-ANCA autoantibodies, as well as an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) test. Pathohistological analysis established the diagnosis of inverted papilloma and surgical treatment was performed. After this case we did a retrospective analysis and established that in the period from April 2014 to March 2022, 22 patients with sinonasal inverted papilloma were treated in the Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, Rijeka Clinical Hospital Center. Experiences with their treatment are also presented in this paper. Conclusion: Patients with sinonasal inverted papilloma are successfully treated in our institution. Differential diagnosis of this tumor should be considered in young patients with atypical disease presentation. Further research is needed in order to clarify etiology and predict the possibility of recurrence and/or malignant alteration of these tumors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
