The growing trend of using artificial intelligence tools in education, such as language models for generating natural text, brings numerous new possibilities and challenges for educational institutions. With the potential for personalized learning, improved administrative processes, and advancements in research, the application of artificial intelligence in education opens doors to innovative teaching methods and provides new perspectives for the development of educational systems. In the context of rapid technology development and increasing integration of artificial intelligence into everyday life, it is important to understand how these changes are reflected in the educational sector. This particularly pertains to the use of the ChatGPT artificial intelligence tool in the learning and teaching process. The aim of this paper is to explore the level of usage of the ChatGPT artificial intelligence tool among students and teachers at the Šibenik University of Applied Sciences. The paper presents the results of two survey questionnaires. The first questionnaire was intended for students, while the second one was directed towards academic teachers. The results revealed that the majority of students at the Šibenik University of Applied Sciences are familiar with and use ChatGPT, and they rate the received responses as highly useful, but there are different opinions regarding trust in those responses. On the other hand, academic teachers are acquainted with ChatGPT, use it for various purposes, but there is diversity in their attitudes towards trusting ChatGPT’s responses. It is important to note that the majority of academic teachers do not encourage students to use ChatGPT and have not taught them about its usage.

While the university of today, as a significant institution whose appearance is associated with the Middle Ages, can be considered in the context of the emergence of classical university education, the modern age is facing this institution with new requirements and expectations. This paper aims to consider the changes in the concept of the university, which are accompanied by classical ideals (enlightenment) to all the major influences of the economy and the requirements for the development of innovation and entrepreneurship. The paper aims to concretize the following tasks: to analyze the classical model of the university and its philosophy of education, to analyze the model of higher education that is primarily based on economic criteria, and to consider the need for actualization and development of the third mission. It is concluded that in modern circumstances, the university is facing the challenge of finding a balance between preserving institutional autonomy, independent social criticism, and academic freedom of professors and students, on the one hand, and connecting with the world of work to become a relevant factor in economic development. Within this framework, discussions on the further direction of the development of higher education should be directed at examining the possibilities for the encouragement of humanistic values, for higher education institutions act as a generator of overall social development.

The COVID-19 crisis had a huge impact on education and became the subject of many scientific studies. The purpose of the paper is to investigate the opinions of professors and students on the quality of teaching and satisfaction with e-learning during the COVID-19 crisis. The aim of the research is to answer the question to what extent professors and students are satisfied with the quality of e-learning in higher education institutions, as well as their expectations in the future. The research was created on the research platform 1KA and conducted in the period from November 12, 2021 to February 12, 2022 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A survey questionnaire was used as a research instrument, which was sent to 192 addresses, 101 publics and 91 private faculties in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and included 132 professors and 202 students. The results of the research showed that the quality of teaching is positively influenced by the satisfaction and level of usefulness of the tools used among professors, but also among students. The results also confirmed that more work experience leads to lower e-learning expectations in the future. The paper presents empirical research that was conducted on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina about the impact of COVID-19 on the quality of e-learning. The scientific contribution of the paper is reflected in the fact that it can be used in research related to the impact of crises on teaching in higher education institutions, as well as potential future emergency situations of crisis and uncertainty that result in new models of teaching that combine classroom and e-teaching.

Uncertainty, unfolding in the most extreme forms in the period of one of the greatest global challenges– a threat to the health and wellbeing of people, caused by the pandemic, is gaining a form difficult toconceive in temporal and conceptual terms. In the perception of students, the young people on the brinkof the first employment, the uncertainty primarily reflects in the estimate of possibilities of finding ajob and opportunities to construct a professional identity. This paper examines the potential role ofpersonal branding in the improvement of student opportunities to find the desired job, as well as theimportance of higher education institutions as strategic partners in the process. This paper, among others, also emphasizes the importance of empowering students towards the recognition of the role of theirknowledge and competencies acquired during the studies; the role which does not correspond to banal, oversimplified reduction of the role of education as means to meet the labour market needs.

Internal communications strategy influences and determines the way employees behave, observe, and maintain good vibes in their respective workplace. No company should allow the occurrence of inefficient communication between their workers and the management bodies, otherwise, it is doomed for failure. What happens inside organizations in terms of administering good communication channels, affects their business success equally so as to what happens outside them when public relations staff brings forth all the successful results to the society at large. Internal communication is very often neglected, which only shows the immaturity and lack of knowledge or incompetence of the leading figures in an organization about effective communication. This paper deals with the efficient execution of internal communication and its importance for the successful ranking and positioning of any business, whether it be small or big. First, it examines the main prerequisites for success such as trust and connecting with the employees and their establishment in big and small businesses as well, because small organizations find it easier to implement good internal communications than the big ones. Second, the paper explores higher education organizations and their ways to achieve excellent results through the positive impact of running good internal communication to the satisfaction of their employees, management bodies, and their wider community. The paper also argues that the essential preconditions of the organization’s good positioning are mutual trust, stemming from the efficient internal communication strategy implementation, and the creation of a good business climate. Labour market as a catalyst and a sieve distinguishes good from bad, recognizes good social interrelating competencies focusing on perceiving identities and favourable working contexts. Third, the paper deals with the working place language knowledge which facilitates human resources management, enables efficient implementation of the internal communication strategy, and provides for the efficient running of the organization. Conclusions are that the successful implementation of the all above said will consequently result in a good positioning and high ranking of the organization on the volatile labour market.

Rezultati su pokazali da studenti iz ovog istraživanja, baš kao i studenti iz drugih istraživanja, ne poznaju i ne razumiju dovoljno dobro koncepte kritičkoga mišljenja i kritičke pedagogije i odnose među njima, što upućuje na potrebu ostvarivanja transformirajućega visokoškolskog obrazovanja koje povezuje znanje i iskustvo studenata i potiče njihovo kritičko mišljenje i djelovanje., Critical pedagogy and critical thinking are two prominent concepts that share the common notion of “criticality” as a starting point, while at the same time branching off in different directions. Differences are hidden in the philosophies of these concepts, which results from the fact that the very concept of criticality is understood differently in the humanities compared to the social sciences. The comparative analysis of these two concepts perfectly illustrates the layering of the concept of criticality and its original, i.e., practical, useful effect. The aim of the theoretical part of the work is to present and critically compare the main features of two traditions: critical pedagogy and critical thinking. Therefore, the paper offers a brief historical overview of the development of both traditions, referring to their different perspectives and main definitions. Furthermore, the concept of criticality is analysed and interpretations of this concept are presented within different schools of thought, relying primarily on the pedagogue Andrew Stables (2003). The concept of criticality was explained separately through the prisms of critical thinking and critical pedagogy in order to determine their connections, as well as the reasons for their disagreement. Paul Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed (2002) is taken as a starting point for the analysis of critical pedagogy, and the differences and similarities in the practical application of the principles of these two traditions are explained through the prism of the tradition of general pedagogy. The empirical part of the paper presents the research conducted with pedagogy students of the Faculty of Philosophy in Split, the aim of which was to determine how pedagogy students understand the concepts of critical pedagogy and critical thinking and their relationship. The results showed that students from this research, just like students from other researches, do not know and understand the concepts of critical thinking and critical pedagogy and the relationships between them well enough, which points to the need to achieve a transforming higher education that connects the knowledge and experience of students and encourages their critical thinking and action.

Higher education, compliant with the new trends, expects students to have a more active and individual engagement in the learning process. Collaborative learning, research-based teaching and learning, and constructive approach are being promoted. Students are expected to demonstrate critical thinking, creativity, and resourcefulness to be qualified for the labor market as well as lifelong learning. The education process at higher education institutions is enriched with collaborations with important institutions that serve as a teaching base aiming to create diverse learning and teaching opportunities. This paper aims to investigate students' opinions about using resources of the University of Sarajevo's teaching base – a museum. Students are asked about the museum as a learning place, their experiences when visiting a museum, and the reasons and frequency of their museum visits. The question is if the students visit museums to explore certain topics for assignments during their studies and how they perceive such forms of learning. 65 students of the University of Sarajevo participated in the research. The results point to the importance of generating a new audience for museums, maintaining the existing one by creating stimulating activities, and designing such a teaching process that would prompt students to return to, explore and learn in museums.

Ustvrdili smo da kod treće misije dobrim djelom postoji neravnoteža, tj. da se posebno promiču ekonomske aktivnosti i komercijalna suradnja s industrijom, a civilne su aktivnosti unutar sveučilišta prilično marginalizirane., The paper deals with the origin, development and main features of European universities from the Middle Ages to the present day. The author explores the centuries– old tradition in the work and activities of a university, which is especially evident in teaching and scientific research. University professors have been engaged in teaching since the Middle Ages, but it was not until the 19th century that scientific research came to be the second mission of the university, primarily due to Wilhelm von Humboldt. The scientific research carried out at universities has contributed significantly to the development of modern science and new scientific fields of specialization. Humboldt emphasized that higher education ought to promote a person’s integral development, the search for truth and the synthesis of knowledge. The paper also analyzes the university’s third mission which became evident in the 1980s. The two basic priorities of the third mission are to encourage universities to contribute their intellectual capital to 1)the economic and 2)the social development of society. Although both are important for the promotion of a democratic and an economically stable society, it is apparent that the third mission promotes, in particular, the economic activities and commercial cooperation between universities and industry, while civic engagement is somewhat neglected.

This paper provides an overview of the theoretical and empirical framework of the debate on widening participation in higher education and explores to what extent the lessons learnt in this field have been applied in the field of public policy. Widening participation is based on the assumption that the probability of entering and successfully completing higher education is contingent on a complex range of social, economic and cultural characteristics of potential students, and that the measures aimed at widening participation must acknowledge the multi-faceted nature of inequities in education. In this context, this paper analyses the extent to which international stakeholders in higher education acknowledge widening participation as a priority. Special attention is given to the question of whether their policy documents take into account the results and implications of empirical research in this field. Finally, the paper assesses the potential impact of these documents on the debate on this topic in Croatia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Također, s obzirom na sudjelovanje sve brojnijih interesnih grupa u okviru realizacije treće misije sveučilišta, neminovno je razvijanje stavova o vrijednostima i načelima treće misije kod svih onih koji su uključeni u proces visokog obrazovanja., The traditional and basic missions of the university, teaching and research are expanding. Terminology on the third mission of the university is gaining wide scope at the global level. The aim of this paper is to study basic similarities and differences in approach to the third mission of the university by comparing American to European universities. The starting point for comparing these approaches is the fact that the third mission of the university has its origins in the American continent, while the creation of the university is linked to Europe. The aim of this paper is to specify the following tasks: to examine the impact of global education policies on approaches to the third mission of the university; to examine the differences in the way European universities operate in relation to American universities; to explain the educational implications of the implementation of the university’s third mission at European universities. In conclusion, it is necessary to understand the global socioeconomic impacts on the process of higher education in order to approach educational reforms and ways of implementing them more comprehensively. Also, given the growing number of the participating interest groups in the implementation of the third mission of the university, it is inevitable to develop attitudes about the values and principles of the third mission among all those who are involved in the process of higher education.

Istraživačkim pitanjima nastoji se analizirati koliko su ishodi učenja odabranih studijskih programa Sveučilišta u Splitu jasno i transparentno napisani prema smjernicama izloženima u teorijskom dijelu, te koliko su ti ishodi usporedivi sa deskriptorima 7. razine HKO., The mission of modern higher education is to create competent individuals who can access and move in the labour market at a time of globalization and internationalization. This is what European and Croatian education policies are focused on. In the background of modern higher education is the competency-based education approach. Education policy documents highlight the concepts of labour market, employability, learning outcomes and transversal competences. In the theoretical part this paper aims to analyze educational policies in Europe and the Republic of Croatia that focus on the needs of the labour market. An overview of the guidelines for writing learning outcomes is provided. The paper presents measures of strategic documents focused on improving learning outcomes and higher education in general according to the needs of the labour market and society brought by the education policies in higher education. Research questions aim to analyze how clear and transparent the learning outcomes of selected study programs of the University of Split are according to the guidelines outlined in the theoretical part, and how comparable these outcomes are to the descriptors of level 7 of the CROQF.

The Humanities at a Crossroads: Challenges and Prospects in the (Post-)COVID-19 World The widespread social and political changes at the end of the 20th century influenced and reshaped higher education and, consequently, research in and the position of the humanities at universities around the world. This paper examines the much-debated crisis in the humanities and poses questions on its course in the light of the global COVID-19 pandemic. It argues that the COVID-19 pandemic might be an opportunity for reflections that may lead to changes in higher education that aim to revive humanistic research, which provides people with tools such as critical thinking, which has proved to be crucial in times of crisis, like pandemics. We consider the example of the Faculty of Philology at the University of Belgrade, the most prominent place for language, culture and literature research in Serbia, as this is an institution that faces many challenges, primarily a decline in enrolment in certain programmes. Finally, we analyse this Faculty’s strategies to cope with both internal and external problems and to revitalize the interest of prospective students in philological studies.

Electoral geography is a part of political geography that tries to find and explain the connection between elections and other spatial phenomena. Electoral geography tries to explain how a certain environment, interests and the characteristics of the population can and do affect electoral behaviour, i.e. voting results. This paper analyses the presidential elections in the Republic of Croatia in the 21st century. The election results are presented on both the municipality level, as well as county level, and the results are further explained and analysed. Also, this paper is trying to examine the connection between the spatial identity of certain regions, average and higher education on the results of the presidential elections.

Gledajući kroz povijest, svaki val pokazuje svoju jedinstvenu uzročnost između inovacije, difuzije, institucionalne promjene, promjene produktivnosti, promjene u broju tvrtki i zaposlenika i relativne cijene čimbenika (Lundquist, Olander i Svensson Henning, 2008). U istraživanju su primijenjene induktivna i deduktivna metoda, kao i metoda analize i sinteze., Looking through history, each wave shows its unique causality between innovation, diffusion, institutional changes, productivity changes, changes in the number of companies and employees, and relative price factors (Lundquist, Olander and Svensson Henning, 2008). An increasing number of technological innovations requires the current workforce to continually update their skills to be ready to respond to new roles in the sectors in which they operate, and which are influenced or will be influenced by new technologies. The paper will show the initiatives taken by individual governments and companies, starting from education, especially higher education, adapting curricula, participating in the new curricula development, and ultimately creating a new workforce that is ready to respond to the work demands of the digital economy market. Effective skills in using technology, combined with knowledge and innovation competencies, can increase the digital skills compatibility with the needs of the digital economy. Most industries and sectors recognise that, as more and more digitalizations are made, there will be more and more demand for employees with different levels of digital skills. An overview of the definition of digital skills with detailed insight into the areas that they encompass is made, and the differences between the terms related to digital literacy, such as information and communication technology literacy, information, media and Internet literacy are listed. It is of the utmost importance to ‘jump’ into the wave of digital changes on time. How many great major powers have succeeded at this, such as the United States, China, Australia, and what is the situation in Europe and Croatia when it comes to adaptation in the times of digital transformation. These are the primary questions and the purpose of this paper. The answer to these questions is presented in terms of formulations, definitions, statistical data, investment strategies and analysis of many relevant sources. Inductive and deductive methods, methods of analysis and synthesis were used.

There is no clear boundary between university and professional studies in higher education in the Republic of Croatia because universities can organize both types of studies, university and professional. This paper has determined differences between university and professional studies on the example of economic studies in Republic of Croatia. It will also explore how much students are familiar with differences in university and professional study programs. Therefore, the difference between university and professional studies was analysed by the survey on students of the first years at the Faculty of Economics in Split. Two hypotheses have been made in this paper. The first hypothesis reads: Professional study programs are essentially different from related university studies. The results of the research showed that the first hypothesis is accepted. The second hypothesis of this paper reads: The expectations of future students from the chosen study program were not realistic due to the real difference between professional and university studies. It is concluded that the other hypothesis is not accepted. Namely, most of the respondents are enrolled in the desired direction, and by agreeing with the statements it is visible that differences to the various study programs were well known.

The aim of this study was to determine the sources of stress in the work of university teachers working in Croatia and to construct a questionnaire that would enable quantitative studies in this area. A qualitative study, aimed to determine the sources of stress at work, was conducted on a convenience sample of 34 higher education teachers in different academic ranks (assistants and professors), working in twelve faculties of the University of Zagreb and University in Split. Using the method of guided group discussions, we identified 125 characteristic sources of stress in the work that are logically categorized into nine content groups. Based on a qualitative study, we have constructed Questionnaire of Exposure to Stress in the Work for University Teachers and apply it on a sample of teachers (N=388) from three Croatian universities. After the implementation of confirmatory factor analysis procedures, the final questionnaire contains 68 items, which define the seven latent dimensions of sources of stress: Teaching and students, Consequences of the Bologna reform, Scientific-research work, Role-conflict, Remuneration and recognition, and Interpersonal relationships. The paper presents data on the metric characteristics of the structured questionnaire, and descriptive results of the pilot application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this paper is to establish if the Higher Education reforms, so-called Bologna process, have led to changes in attiude towards learning. Research was carried out on a total sample of 216 students, male and female, from the University of Juraj Dobrila in Pula, 93 of whom had studied under the pre-Bologna process and 123 students who were studying under the new Higher Education program based on the principles of the Bologna Declaration. A questionnaire with sub-scales assessing organisation, fl exibility in learning, manner of processing information, use of aids, active participation in class, motivation and anxiety, was employed in order to examine their learning strategies. The results of the analysis point to the existence of statistically signifi cant differences between the groups in favour of students following the new system of studying: students who are studying under the Bologna system use aids significnatly more often, process the subject matter more thoroughly, are more flexible in learning, more active and more motivated than their predecessors. The differences obtained are examined in the context of modified conditions of studying and the new system of Higher Education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HIGHER education , *SOCIAL status , *ECONOMIC conditions of students , *EDUCATIONAL finance , *EDUCATIONAL benefits , *SCHOLARLY method - Abstract
The need for the higher education process to be economically efficient, together with the need for equity and equality in access to higher education services for everyone represents the starting point of this paper. The analysis was conducted using data from a survey on a random sample of young people who recently finished their education using three criterion variables: completion of the study, study success, and the speed of study completion. These variables were chosen because all three individually and in total indicate the efficiency of the process of higher education, but taken together with the data about students and their form of study, other costs of study, family socio-economic background, and eligibility for indirect state financial assistance, also indicate the problems of equality in access to public higher education in Croatia. The obtained results show that the chances for completion of the study are primarily related to the socio-economic status of students. Completion is especially low for students from lower socio-economic strata who do not pay tuition fee, which suggests that the existing instruments of financial aid for non-academic costs are not sufficient for this group. The speed of study completion is primarily influenced by the costs students have to pay for tuition, lower socio-economic status of the students, and eligibility for financial aid conditioned by the dynamics of the study (scholarships). SERVICE learning , *HIGHER education , *EXPERIENTIAL learning , *STUDENT participation , *COLLEGE curriculum , *CIVIC improvement - Abstract
The paper analyses the connection between the civic mission of the university, higher education teaching (as one of the basic academic activities) and the education of socially responsible and active citizens. It presents one of the most current models of experiential learning at the university level, originally called service-learning. The model in question relies on the integration of the curriculum and active involvement of the students in the community with the aims of ensuring their better understanding of the academic discipline, the needs and problems of the community and encouraging their (further) civic involvement. The international academic community is increasingly regarding this model as a mechanism that successfully contributes to the realisation of certain aspects of the civic mission of the university. With the purpose of contributing to the conceptual analysis, the concepts and approaches to the definition and theoretical origins are presented. Opening the area of the discussion about the challenges of the integration of this model into higher education curriculum at our universities, the Croatian equivalent of the term service learning is offered and explained. EDUCATION policy , *GOVERNMENT policy , *HIGHER education , *POSTSECONDARY education , *COMMERCIALIZATION - Abstract
Factual evidence is a necessary precondition for efficient creation of any public policy, and education policies are not an exception. This paper portrays changes in participation, completion, duration and structure of fee regimes in Croatian tertiary education system, based upon the data collected by Croatian Central Bureau of Statistics. During the past two decades Croatian higher education system went through the greatest transformation in last fifty years. Considerable massification and commercialization of tertiary education ensued. Both processes reached their full pace well before adoption of the Bologna process, and are most visible in professional studies, and academic courses in business, economics and law faculties. Despite expansion of system and prolongation of average study duration, completion rate has somewhat increased during the past decade. Taken together, this was reflected as considerable increase in number of students and proportion of cohort that successfully completes tertiary education. Though, with about 40% of students failing to graduate, Croatia still lags behind majority of EU and OECD countries, both with regard to proportion of cohort which graduates and number of students who drop out of tertiary education. Ableism, being considered a disciplining-normative imperative of ability, is an oppressive paradigmatic position which, by using the power derived from socially constructed normative dichotomies, such as normal/abnormal, ability/disability, and valid/invalid, evaluates and categorizes persons, marginalizing ones and privileging others. In the context of higher education, as well as other social institutions, has ableism been inscribed into the fundamental educational premises, thus forming and organizing the entire relation between higher education and disability, ie, students with disabilities, through official higher education policy documents, among other things. Therefore was the aim of this paper to use the theoretical knowledge of critical disability studies, studies of ableism and critical sociology of disability and the method of critical discourse analysis, to gain a deeper insight into the discourses that, through linguistic forms and practices of normative texts of higher education policy documents, regulate, shape and reproduce disability, and form students with disabilities as policy objects. The final part of the paper shows four constituing discourses that have emerged from the analysis of the texts: the social, medical and neoliberal discourse of disability, and the discourse of human rights and humanitarianism. These discourses, albeit contradictory, operate in harmonized and mutually complementary ways, both on the level of documents as well as on the level of each definition. However, in spite of the principle orientation of the legislative framework towards a socially just perspective emphasizing the need for social change, these discourses primarily point to the consistency of the medical perspectives of disability and the neoliberal approach to body and education, which places persons with disabilities into the framework of personal inadequacy, insufficiency and impairment.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the innovative practices that can be used as a tool for quality enhancement in higher education. More specifically, the paper seeks to examine how specific innovation contributes to the achievement of strategic goals and to reveal the most influencing practices for higher education institutions. The study included two phases: a survey and structured interviews with the management of the higher education institutions. A survey was conducted to determine the level of innovativeness and strategic planning in Croatian higher education institutions. In total, 135 managers’ replies were collected. Second phase included structured interviews with managers from 11 higher education institutions. The research revealed that, although majority of Croatian higher education institutions (HEIs) implemented strategy and plans for enhancing teaching quality, it doesn’t fulfil their aim to motivate students and to enhance their teaching and learning practices. This paper integrates different approaches in analysis of teaching and learning quality. It combines strategic and innovation management with quality management practices and provides comprehensive framework for investigating teaching and learning (T&L) quality. The study draws attention to the importance of innovative practices as a tool for quality enhancement in higher education and suggests a set of guidelines for HEI’s management to enhance teaching and learning quality., Svrha ovog rada je istražiti inovativne prakse koje se mogu koristiti kao alat za unaprjeđenje kvalitete visokog obrazovanja.

U prvom dijelu rada, teorijskom, opisani su odnosi s javnošću, društvene mreže, struktura obrazovanja, a u drugom dijelu rezultati provedenog istraživanja. Public relations has become extremely important for any organization, company or individual that wants to compete in the market nowadays. Public relations is a part of strategic management, and its goal is to create and maintain a company's reputation and to increase recognition by maintaining a constant and consistent dialogue with the community. Nowadays, at the time of modern technologies, more and more organizations use social media for the purpose of public relations. Without public relations, there is no quality or successful organization. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how many institutions of higher education in Croatia use modern technologies as a tool in public relations, or whether social media affect students' selection of studies. In the first part of the paper, public relations, social networks and education structures are described theoretically, and in the second part the research is conducted

(Model 1) i 2016. (Model 2). The main goal of this research was to explore and analyse the efficiency of public expenditures on higher education in the EU – 28 countries using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and rank countries from the most efficient ones to the inefficient ones as well as to try to determine the reasons for (in)efficiency. Considering that the main problem of this paper was researching the efficiency of public expenditure on higher education, there were two hypotheses. The first hypothesis suggested that all of the countries members of EU will achieve high coefficient of technical efficiency of public expenditure on higher education; the second hypothesis assumed that countries with greater public expenditures on higher education will achieve a higher coefficient of technical efficiency in using their resources. DEA is a non-parametric method that uses linear programming and combines multiple inputs and multiple outputs with ease, which makes it suitable for this research. DEA assigns weights to inputs and outputs and by doing so, after the scores are calculated, it ranks the decision making units by their efficiency coefficient. The analyzed models that were used in this paper were models of variable returns to scale with three inputs (number of students enrolled, academic staff and public expenditure on higher education per student in EUR) and two outputs (number of graduates and employability) in two years: 2013. (Model 1) and 2016. (Model 2). These models were, also, output oriented. We have reached the following conclusions: the countries of European Union, indeed achieve high coefficient of technical efficiency, however, second hypothesis showed that almost half of the countries in both observed models were in the bottom half when analyzing public expenditure on higher education per student (in EUR). In Model 1, 16 out of 28 countries managed to achieve maximum technical efficiency, while 15 countries achieved it in Model 2. The country with the weakest score from Model 1, Greece, was amongst the most efficient ones in Model 2, whilst certain countries that were efficient in Model 1, did not reach maximum coefficient in Model 2, although their score is, nevertheless, high.

Rad donosi rezultate istraživanja provedenog u okviru istraživačkog projekta »Izazovi studiranja i podrške studentima odraslima u javnoj skrbi« financiranog od strane Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. S ciljem opisa specifičnosti i doživljaja studentskog života, provedeno je kvalitativno istraživanje s 23 mlade osobe s iskustvom života u alternativnoj skrbi. U tu svrhu, važno je planirati suradnju između sustava socijalne skrbi i sustava odgoja i obrazovanja na svim razinama., Based on the perception of higher education system as a public good and the importance of the social aspect of education, this paper focuses on children from care, for whom mere participation in the education process, and especially in higher education, is a significant factor of social inclusion. The paper presents the results of research carried out as part of “The challenges of pursuing studies and providing support to students brought up in public care”, a research project financed by the University of Zagreb. The aim of qualitative research carried out on 23 students with in-care experience was to describe the particularities and experience of their student life. Five focus groups were held in five university cities: Zagreb, Rijeka, Split, Osijek and Pula. The collected data was processed and grouped according to the analysis of the (thematic) framework in the following themes: motives for enrolment, characteristics of studying, perception of self and other peers, facilitating factors in the studying process and social network. The results of this research indicate the need to provide targeted, systematic support in order for this group to improve and realize their potential and more easily overcome the unfavourable circumstances that have characterised their educational path. Hence, it is important to plan cooperation between the social care system and education system on all levels.

Purpose – The purpose of this empirical research is to adapt and adopt a measurement tool that will accurately assess students’ perceptions of higher education (HE) service quality (SQ), as well as the students’ overall satisfaction (SS) and their word-of-mouth (WoM) behavior. The target groups are information communication technology (ICT) and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students. Design/Methodology/Approach – The paper introduces the process of adaptation, adoption, and psychometric validation of the proposed ICT & STEM SQ-SSWoM measurement scale, consisting of the following sections: students’ demography, perceptions of SQ, and WoM intentions survey. After the initial administration of tests, followed by the pilot testing and scale purification, quantitative data were collected from 214 ICT and STEM students. Statistical tests were applied in two stages, involving an analysis of the scale’s validity, followed by that of its reliability and dimensionality. Findings and implications – The confirmatory factor analysis yielded 24 SQ items, categorised under 5 factors, 4 SS items, and 3 items measuring students’ positive WoM intentions, which confirmed all the scale’s psychometric characteristics except its discriminant validity. Limitations – Besides the unconfirmed discriminant validity, this student-focused study used a sample of 4 public ICT and STEM HE settings in Croatia and was confined to the students’ perspective; thus, the results obtained should be interpreted within its limitations. Originality – The results of this research suggest an acceptable model fit, thus proposing the usability of the adapted measurement scale and contributing to the extant literature reporting findings on SQ, SS, and positive WoM intentions within the ICT and STEM HE context.

The paper aims to study European and Hungarian organisations and institutions that are related to the terminology of education. Then we analyse glossaries, dictionaries and databases that can be found online at the webpages of UNESCO and the European Union, and also those that contain education terminology in Hungarian (online and offline). Finally, we are going to introduce our planned database. The terminology of education is a key area at the national level and in the context of the European Union equally. There are existing word lists, glossaries and dictionaries in certain languages that contain the terminology of education in one or more languages. Our aim is to design and prepare a multilingual terminology database in the field of education terminology. The languages we plan to work with are Hungarian, English, and the official languages (Romanian, Slovak, Ukrainian, Croatian, German, Serbian, Slovenian) of the territories in the neighbouring countries where there is a substantial Hungarian minority, who attend school either in the official language of that country or in Hungarian.

Dodatna vrijednost ovog diplomskog rada bit će i prikaz postojećih studijskih programa koji u svojim kurikulumima imaju integrirano i društveno korisno učenje što može poslužiti i kao primjer dobre prakse za organizaciju i unapređenje takvog oblika učenja na Edukacijsko-rehabilitacijskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu., Universities today don't benefit society purely by their proffesional influence but also by increasing the general quality of life of the people in the local community. To achieve this beneficial influence, it is necessary to depart from what's considered to be the „classic“ educational model and start working on including university students in solving various problems that burden the local community. There are various methods of doing this, however the most acclaimed and recognized method worldwide is educating socially responsible and active citizens by integrating the model of service learning in the universities’curriculums. The aim of this paper is to provide a different view of programs and models that help universities to develop a more civilized society by coordinating and enabling activities of university students in the community through service learning programs. This paper gives an insight in the way afore mentioned programs can increase and develop professional competence among students of humanities and social sciences. An added value to this paper is an overview of various educational programs that already include service learning in their curriculums. In that sense, this paper contributes to the development and improvement of such programs at University of Zagreb.
