Svetislav Stančić (1895-1970), a piano pedagogue, pianist, composer, and founder of the Zagreb Piano School, was considered a central musical and cultural figure in the former Yugoslavia from late 1920s until his death in 1970. During the five decades of artistic and pedagogical work, he taught several generations of piano pedagogues and performers. His valuable personal library (the Svetislav Stančić Library), and personal papers (Personal papers of S. Stančić) provide information on his personal, artistic and pedagogical interests and connections. After his death in 1970, his widow Linda Stančić-Carnelutti donated this entire collection to the Piano Department of the Zagreb Academy of Music. The Stančić Library was stored in room 21, and the Personal papers are stored in the archive of the Croatian Music Institute. In 2015, the Academy of Music Library, which moved to a new building in 2014, received all of the materials of the Stančić Library (648 books, 2261 printed music, 188 gramophone records, 25 manuscripts of other composers and some periodicals), and in 2021 his personal papers were also transferred to the Academy of Music Library. In 2022, the processing of the Stančić Library was completed, making it available to all users and researchers in the Academy of Music Library. Information about the titles in the Stančić Library is available through the Academy of Music Library online catalogue. The value of this collection comes from the variety of materials, themes, authors, composers, editors, performers and editions represented. A variety of topics and approaches to the problem of piano technique is represented in the books, and the Stančić Library contains a wide range of editions of the piano repertoire. Stančić’s hand-written comments and notes in the books and sheet music enable a detailed analysis of his critical attitude towards the methods of other piano pedagogues of his time. They also provide insight in his pedagogic and methodological approach, technical solutions (fingerings, pedal), his approach to interpretation and his redactions of works by other composers. Also of great importance is the collection of 25 autographs of Croatian and Slovenian composers, some of which are the only existing copies (part of the Stančić Library), as well as the collection of Stančić autographs (part of the Personal papers of Stančić). The diverse material of the Stančić Library and Personal papers is a very valuable source of information, important for piano pedagogues as well as performers, musicologists and other interested researchers. The collections can form the basis of research on Stančić’s approach to technical and pedagogical issues, on his place as a composer in Croatian music, on history of the piano department of the Academy of music, and on the general history of Croatian cultural and musical life of Stančić’s time. The Library of the Academy of Music of the University of Zagreb keeps a particularly valuable collection of personal papers – personal documents, manuscripts and other archives created and collected by local musicians, conductors, music teachers and music historians during the performance of their duties. In many cases, those materials came into the Library’s possession as a part of private donations and legacies. Recently, the librarians at the Library of the Academy of Music have started to arrange and describe those materials according to the principles of archival arrangement and description, and so far the personal papers of Theo Tabaka, Ivan Pinkava, Petar Dumičić and Zinka Kunc (Milanov) have been processed. Objective. The author explains the notion of archival processes and material, showcases the catalogue of archival values, and deconstructs the relationship between archival material and act, history, identity, and other signifieds. The value of archival material directs the user's interpretation of various signifieds, creating chains of supplements and forming possibilities for usage, understanding, and accepting archival material. Approach/methodology/design. The author analyses the definition of archival material, appraisal, values of archival material, and related archival processing tasks. The author uses archival literature and dictionaries to analyse the appraisal, acquisition, arrangement, and description process. The author uses the literature of various disciplines and sciences, such as anthropology, archival science, deconstruction, linguistics, logic and semiotics, to analyse the notion of value and conduct deconstruction and semiotic analysis of archival material. Results. The author explains the archival appraisal process and the relationships with other processes in archives and defines and categorises the notion of the value of archival material. The paper also showcases the deconstruction of conceivable relationships of appraised archival material and its use and the mechanism of functioning of archival material as a semiotic sign. Originality/value. The originality of the paper consists of an additional reflection on archival terms related to appraisal, archival material and the interpretative potential that comes from its values for different uses and users. Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to compare and correlate ways of creating access points for corporate bodies in the ALM community in accordance with current practice and the Code for Description and Access to Resources in Libraries, Archives, and Museums (LAM Code), and identify the advantages of applying the LAM Code and data standardization, as well as possible difficulties and challenges. Methodology. The first part of the paper presents the rules and standards for creating access points for corporate bodies which are currently used by the heritage community. It explains the international standards incorporated in the LAM Code and presents the LAM Code as a standard for data content to be used by the heritage community in creating access points for corporate bodies. The second part analyses a sample of access points for corporate bodies, and provides the findings of a survey answering the following questions: a) What is the current practice of selecting and creating access points for corporate bodies used by the three LAM institutions included in the sample and what are the differences between them? b) How will the same access points for corporate bodies be created in accordance with the LAM Code? c) What are possible advantages of applying the LAM Code and what are possible difficulties and challenges? Findings. The survey provides an insight into the current practice of creating access points for corporate bodies in all three LAM institutions. It shows to what extent these institutions adhere to their rules and standards, as well as possible advantages and disadvantages of data standardization and the use of the LAM Code as the common standard. Originality. The paper contributes to the LAM community by focusing on the issue of selecting and creating authorized access points for corporate bodies in all three communities, comparing them and bringing them under the LAM Code as the common denominator, which enables standardization, sharing and reuse of data on corporate bodies. Purpose. The aim of the paper is to analyze the participation and satisfaction with training courses for the application of the LAM Code that were held from 2018 to 2022 within the Training Center for Continuing Professional Development of Librarians in Croatia (CSSU). In addition, the paper provides an analysis of the attendance of regional workshops (held independently of the CSSU) on the topic of the application of the LAM Code. The workshops were organized by the Working Group for Education of The Standing Committee for the Development and Maintenance of the LAM Code in cooperation with the main public libraries and the Advisory Council of Museum and Documentation Center. Approach/methodology/design. The paper analyzes data on the training courses for the application of the LAM Code, more precisely the topics, formats, duration, number of participants, and the results of evaluation questionnaires, i.e. the satisfaction of the participants with educational content and lecturers and applicability of training courses in the workplace. Findings. During the five-year period, the majority of librarians, but also a significant number of attendees from archives and museums, participated in the training on the LAM Code. By holding training courses online and making webinar recordings publicly available from 2020, wide availability of educational content has been made possible. The participants expressed an excellent level of satisfaction with the quality of lecturers and educational content, and a very high level of satisfaction with the applicability of education in the workplace. By holding regional workshops, the practical application of the LAM Code was brought to the wider professional community. Research limitations/implications. From 2018 to 2020, the participants from archives and museums were not offered the option of choosing their own type of institution when applying and the category named "Other" was provided for them. However, the subsequent analysis revealed that some of the aforementioned participants were placed in the "Special Libraries" category (based on self-registration). Therefore, for the purpose of this paper, these participants were subsequently separated into separate categories according to the type of institution they come from. Practical implications. The results presented in this paper will be taken into consideration when planning new CSSU education programs in the context of cataloging and bibliographic control as well as new educational activities for the application of the LAM Code in general. Originality/value. The paper presents trends in the field of professional development of experts from libraries, archives and museums on application of the Code for Description and Access to Resources in Libraries, Archives, and Museums. Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to present the operational ontology of the Code for description and access to resources in libraries, archives, and museums - LAM Code (Pravilnik za opis i pristup građi u knjižnicama, arhivima i muzejima - KAM), version 1.0, 2021, as a complementary standard to the textual version of the LAM Code. Methodology. The introduction defines the concept of ontology and the RDF - Resource Description Framework model for description of resources as semantic linked data. This standard framework is used as a technical model for the LAM Code as well as for the conceptual models IFLA LRM, RiC and CIDOC-CRM, the implementation of which is the LAM Code. The second part of the paper consists of the short description of the ontologies used in the heritage sector, while the third, main part is dedicated to the detailed description of the LAM Code ontology as an operational ontology. Findings. The ontology of the LAM Code fully complies with its textual version. Certain adjustments were made to conform to the requirements of the ontology as an operational one. Limitations. The described ontology of the LAM Code has been adopted as a final version for testing in 2023, so some minor adjustments can be expected. To start using the ontology it is necessary to publish it in the official registry of namespaces, preferably a national one. Practical implications. The implementation of the LAM Code ontology is seen in encoding metadata for machine processing in relational database or linked data environments, for the purpose of their content designation, storage, machine reasoning, retrieval and display, as well as for metadata exchange and re-use at the national and international levels. Social implications. The implementation of the LAM Code ontology is seen in enhancement and development of information systems, and interoperability of metadata in the heritage sector and with other stakeholders in a contemporary environment of information management at the national and international levels. Goal. The goal of the paper is to show the implementation of library services in the homes for older adults in the city of Zagreb during the COVID-19 pandemic from March 2020 to June 2022. Approach/methodology/design. Library services in homes for the older adults in the city of Zagreb are implemented within the Books at your door programme of the 65 plus project at the Zagreb City Libraries. The COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions have made it difficult to design and implement library services for older people in libraries. Due to the protection of health, particularly large restrictions have been placed on contacts with elderly people in homes for the older adults. As a result of this challenge, the librarians have devised ways to stay in touch and provide library services to the home users during periods of greater and lesser restrictions on access to the homes. Results. The paper describes in detail the implementation and the results of the Books at your door programme from March 2020 to June 2022. Library services and various cultural programs that were carried out during the pandemic in homes for the older adults, organized by the Zagreb City Libraries, are presented and described. The results are based on and supported by the statistical data from the annual reports of the 65 plus project. Originality/value. The cultural activities that are carried out for the older adults by the libraries, sometimes in difficult business circumstances, are examples of good practice aimed at sensitizing the public and increasing care for the well-being of the elderly people. The experiences gained during the implementation of the Books at your door programme in difficult conditions during the pandemic can help experts and practitioners in designing library services in times of crisis. The data recorded in this paper also represent a kind of public archive on the cooperation between libraries and homes for the older adults in the Zagreb area during the COVID-19 pandemic. Research projects concerning informational and heritage resources accumulated in the Croatian diaspora communities are becoming a growing interest in Croatian academia. This paper is a contribution to illuminate content and significance of resources which are necessary in the research of the history and the present Croatian emigration. In the introduction we bring a short history of St. Anthony Croatian Catholic Church and Croatian community that gathered there since the founding of the parish in 1910. The second part of the paper explains the role of the church archives on an example of St. Anthony Croatian Catholic Church in relation to the community, analysing its structure and signi- ficance and reviewing the methodology used and shown in the research. By analysing the content of the documents the emphasis is put on the importance of archival sources for the historical research of the Croatian community in Los Angeles. Until now the Parochial Archives of St. Anthony Croatian Catholic Church has been unknown to the professional and scientific public, therefore, this paper is also a contribution to the research of the Croatian cultural and archival heritage in diaspora. The paper presents and describes archival records about Croats in Brazil and consequently on emigrants from Croatia in relation to that country, with the aim to enable easier access to future researchers and interested readers of this subject matter. The starting hypothesis is that the Croatian emigrant community is still relatively invisible in the context of migratory studies, as well as in general terms within the recipient country and the Croatian homeland. This is due to various reasons: the quantity and the accessibility of written records, possibilities of research and financing academic journeys to Brazil or Croatia, presence and activities of emigrants with the purpose of connecting and maintaining relations with the homeland, decreased emphasis on the national identity or lesser awareness of it with many emigrants, economic and political structural imbalance of the community in the new homeland in relation to other ethnic groups, relations of the local leaders and representatives of institutions, late opening and unstable work of consulates and embassies, the ideology of racial mixing and the conceptualization of identity according to the ius solis principle as the dominant model of Brazil's national policy towards immigrants and their integration into the Brazilian national corpus. Also important in that regard is the emigrational policy of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy which mostly favoured emigration of Slavic population, as is that of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia that strived to decrease the number of other minorities that were not part of the contemporary Yugoslav national corpus by favouring the departure for Brazil as a melting pot country. Besides outlining the particularities of the relations between these two countries in which migrations are salient for understanding and closer ties, the paper puts special emphasis on the invisibility of archival records i.e. sources. The invisibility is explained as the result of poor archival policy and failure to register information on immigration, both of which are necessary in order to acquire and preserve records, as well as the result of the forced national cohesion in the 1930s, which became instrumental in shutting down all institutions with ethnic features. Selfcensorship appeared after 1964 due to the policy of Brazilian nationalism, which forced immigrant communities to hide or not to care for their joint and/or institutional past and memory. Bearing all that in mind, this paper can serve as a starting point for future research that will cast light on the complex history of immigrant Croats and their progeny in the largest South American country and at the same time serve as a point of contact between the two countries, since there is a general view that such points do not exist. The paper starts with a brief introduction, followed by three projects that charted and systematised archival records as the first step in creating a consistent database which will be accessible in the future. The main ideas and the context of the creation of the most important scientific works for this subject matter are explained next, ending with the description of archival records relevant for the history of Croatian immigration i.e. immigration from Croatia to Brazil, with the special emphasis on the correlation between primary and secondary sources, as well as the contributions of the community/homes and academic research. The paper presents existing projects, books and papers and by analysing them strives to demonstrate how to reverse the invisibility of the Croatian immigrant community and sources. It also delineates the institutional projects created via different collaborations, including the one between the community and the Unicentro University, archival records that became available because of that, as well as academic papers that deal with records in critical and analytical manner. These records also contain sources that are not widely accessible or quotable. Researching and understanding this topic is a formidable task regarding the approach (both in terms of language and physicality), but it is at the same time very promising. A certain amount of conducted scientific research does exist, but the large part of the records has not yet been systematised and processed. Purpose. Crowdsourcing has been used in libraries and archives all over the world for more than a decade, but it has not yet become popular in Croatia. The aim of this paper is to investigate to what extent the Croatian professional community is familiar with this concept of work in heritage institutions, and also if there is any potential for implementing crowdsourcing in Croatian archives and libraries. Approach. The answers to these questions were obtained through a mixed research approach with predominantly quantitative characteristics on a random sample of 201 patrons and 23 employees of libraries and archives in the city of Zagreb. The research was conducted in situ with surveys for the patrons consisting of 17 questions and semi-structured interviews with the employees. In addition to examining the overall interest for participation in crowdsourcing projects and the employees' desire to supervise them, the respondents were questioned about their familiarity with the term "crowdsourcing", and their own thoughts and ideas on this topic. Findings. According to their answers, although patrons were not familiar with the term 'crowdsourcing' and its meaning before, they have shown interest for participating and gave positive feedback on crowdsourcing projects after reading a short explanation. They generally opted out for participating in purposeful games and projects of text correction and/or transcription. The results of this research have shown that, in addition to the willingness of patrons to participate as potential volunteers, there is also certain interest among employees as potential organizers of such projects. The employees have expressed concerns about the quality of that kind of amateur work, and emphasized the necessity of project supervision and work results monitoring as key elements for a successful project. In conclusion, a successful crowdsourcing project needs to be organized with the content and activities that would be appealing to potential volunteers and target the enthusiastic patrons who have shown interest in participating in various heritage institutions' activities and projects. Research limitations. This research was conducted only in the city of Zagreb, and although it included a number of city's archives and libraries, its results cannot be generally applied to other regions of Croatia. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct further research in order to gain more insight into the potential and possibilities for implementing crowdsourcing in heritage institutions in all parts of Croatia. This paper provides better insight into the potential for implementation of crowdsourcing projects in Croatia based on findings of the research conducted among users and employees of archives and libraries in the city of Zagreb. Purpose. The goal of the paper is to identify, investigate and present the official ways of controlling the press in Australia in the 1930s and the ways in which editors and publishers of Croatian newspapers in Australia avoided censorship. This was the time when publications in foreign languages were checked before granting permission to publish, and within the Australian Croatian community the primary language of communication was Croatian. Based on the research, a list of all Croatian newspapers that were published in Australia in the early 1930s is compiled. Approach/methodology/design. The methods used in the research are the method of structured search of online public institutions' catalogues (primarily libraries and archives in Australia), content analysis of archival sources and publications, and the method of involving the Croatian community in Australia. Results. The research resulted in new findings about publications and their editing in the observed period. The social framework for publishing newspapers was researched and presented, and ways to avoid censorship were identified. Each way to avoid censorship is documented and described on the basis of archival sources or a few preserved publications. The research has identified publications that were published in the observed timeframe; the basic data on their publication and editing practices have been investigated. Originality/value. Two publications discovered during the research are described in the paper (Oganj and Iskra). In addition, one publication (one issue of Borba) was found, which was mentioned in the literature, but the bibliographic elements and technical characteristics have never been analysed and the place of storage was not known. All three publications have been digitized and are freely accessible at the links provided in the paper. Furthermore, the research has shown that one publication, which has so far been cited as the publication of Croats in Australia, was not actually published in Australia (Proleter). A list of publications published by Croats in Australia in the early 1930s was compiled on the basis of archival documents, and the ways of conducting and avoiding censorship were presented. Purpose: The aim of this paper is to present the treatment and procedure with joint pseudonyms in standards and cataloguing codes: from the Paris Statement of principles, AACR, the Croatian cataloguing code PPIAK by Verona, IFLA bibliographic models to RDA standard, IFLA LRM model and the new Croatian Resource Description and Access Code for Libraries, Archives and Museums (KAM). Approach/methodology: The comparison of the relevant parts of the above-mentioned standards and cataloguing codes, followed by an analysis that reveals similarities and differences in order to critically presents an overview of the development of international theory and practice of cataloguing regarding joint pseudonyms. Findings: The research has detected vagueness and certain inconsistencies in the analysed standards and cataloguing codes. A proposal for a further refinement of IFLA LRM model and the Croatian Code KAM has been outlined. Originality/value: The contribution of this paper is in better understanding of this marginal and less familiar segment of the bibliographic universe, as well as understanding of difficulties in defining and treatment of joint pseudonyms in cataloguing theory and practice. The Croatian historiography has only few periodicals that were founded i.e. started back in the 19th century, but more importantly, that have been published continually in the following periods, until today. Extremely important place among such periodicals belongs to the Vjestnik Kr. hrvatsko-slavonsko-dalmatinskog Zemaljskog arkiva (The Herald of the Royal-Croatian-Slavonian-Dalmatian Land Archives) in Zagreb, which was founded in 1899 by the honourable Ivan Bojničić-Kninski (1858 -- 1925), with the help of Emilij Laszowski. Bojničić was also its first editor-in-chief. The periodical changed its name several times and since 1958 it has been published under the name Arhivski vjesnik -- Bulletin d'archives (Archival Herald), as a scientific and professional annual i.e. a specialised periodical of archival institutions in the Republic of Croatia for the fields of archival science, auxiliary sciences of history, information science and communication science, as well as related sciences. Since the publisher and the headquarters of this journal has always been associated with our most important national archival institutions i.e. the Croatian State Archives, the journal is the source of numerous studies and articles from the wide field of historical science, particularly from the auxiliary sciences of history. This was also emphasized in the first editorial of the journal ("Naša zadaća" ("Our task"), I/1899, p.2) with the following words: "(...) 3. This also includes the scientific interpretation of archival records i.e. the entire vast and interesting field of palaeography and diplomatics. It also includes heraldry, genealogy and sphragistics, if they are of use to the domestic history". Since the auxiliary sciences of history in Croatia did not have their own unique specialized publication (for a short while and only for some of them there existed Vitezović -- mjesečnik za genealogiju, biografiju, heraldiku i sfragistiku I/1903-1904, II/1905; and Glasnik heraldike -- časopis za grboslovlje, rodoslovlje, životopis i pečatoslovlje, I/1937, II/1938), it meant that journal was the focal point for publishing papers regarding epigraphy, palaeography, diplomatics, chronology, egdotics, sphragistics, genealogy, heraldry etc. This paper will examine and present the heraldic themes in The Herald of the Royal Croatian-Slavonian-Dalmatian Land Archives i.e. Archival Journal during a very wide timeframe from the 19th to the 21st century. Contemporary information and communications technologies pose complex challenges to public institutions and other legal persons which create, own or possess records and archives. The problems generated by these challenges are even more acute when one considers that most of the public institutions and legal persons in Croatia still predominantly rely on "paper" i.e. analogue documentation in their everyday business. In that regard the recent Act on Archives and Archival Institutions (Zakon o arhivskom gradivu i arhivima), the Regulation on Records Management of the Public Authority Bodies (Uredba o uredskom poslovanju) and the Ordinance on the Management of Records Outside the Archival Institutions (Pravilnik o upravljanju dokumentarnim gradivom izvan arhiva) laid out a robust foundation for the gradual digital transformation of the records management system. However, the provisions of all these regulations addressing these questions are not always self-explanatory and simple, especially if one takes into account the conditions set by other relevant regulations which affect the area of records management of creators and owners or possessors of records and archives. That is why this issue needs to be considered in a thorough, systematic fashion over the long-term period. In other words, public institutions and other legal persons which create, own or possess records and archives should define a strategy on how to implement a transition to digital recordkeeping, which will allow for more efficient management of both analogue as well as digital records. The paper analyses a sample of internal normative acts of creators, owners or possessors of records and archives approved by Croatian State Archives since recent Act on Archives and Archival Institutions, and other relevant regulations came into force. The indicative examples of these acts (Rules for the Records Management and Records Disposal Schedules) singled out from the sample illustrate the possibilities offered by recent legislation and regulation on how to support the transition to digital records management system. That said, the paper argues that these acts can (and must) become an integral element of abovementioned transition strategy in the period when paper documentation is still very much in circulation at the same time when digital records are inexorably becoming the new norm. Second goal of the analysis is to consider how much are the creators and owners or possessors of records and archives in Croatia prepared to adopt the described solutions offered by the regulations when it comes to implementation of the digital transformation. The paper argues that there are noticeable advances in this area, but that many still prefer to think about records management along traditional patterns related to conventional records "on paper". The gradual process in which the medieval commune of Dubrovnik developed into a classical city-state in the first half of the 16th century was related both to the outer and to the inner elements. Among the latter the most important role belonged to the establishment of a firm, reliable and well organised web of clerks. Since their work would have been impossible without a continuous supply of paper and parchment, the Government signed several contracts with various entrepreneurs who were undertaken to fulfil all such needs, including also the book binding. The primary sources always describe them simply as librarii. They were coming from various backgrounds, including native people and Italians, priests and laity, nobles and commoners. Although they had never formed a proper corporation, their profession enjoyed a particular status due to a relatively small, but regular income, their mutual connections (including education of apprentices) and particular professional knowledge they had, especially that of making parchment. The first decades of the 16th century witnessed to a severe restriction imposed to all civil servants, but since 1540s sources are particularly abundant with news concerning the parchment and paper supply. Therefore we traced the roots of paper from Venice and Ancona to Dubrovnik and, occasionally, to the Ottoman Empire afterwards. We are precisely informed about the prices, careers of several librarii who worked in a span of several decades and their mutual relations. Also, as there were various kinds of paper being supplied to the State offices, it is easily possible to perceive their value. Towards the end of the Republic the flourishing days gradually disappeared and 1790s brought just a single request from a local priest to learn the service of bookbinding in Rome. However, thousands of books kept today in the State Archives of Dubrovnik undoubtedly testify about the quality of the late librarii and their work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In addition to central institutions such as state archives, many other types of archives that are covered by archival legislation have recently been increasingly promoted and developed, such as private archives and special collections of individual institutions, community archives, etc. However, the fact is that due to various obstacles many such places are not officially registered in the mentioned categories, even though they correspond to them in terms of character and activity. Such archives, whether they are registered or only operate nominally in one of the legislative frameworks, often differ from state archives in the priorities according to which they define their methodology. For example, many adapt the methodology of describing archival records and working with users in accordance with the logic and dynamics of the environment in which they exist. In addition, in such places, the roles of the creator and owner of the material are mostly intertwined. Historically speaking, special collection departments were more focused on internal users, often also the creators of the materials, than on external users -- individuals, groups, institutions or associations. However, in the last few decades, the number of external users of private and special, especially research archives, has been increasing, which is why it was necessary to re-examine the dynamics of the archival staff's relationship with all types of users and propose certain improvements. In the context of contemporary digital technologies and social networks, special librarians and archivists in special collections get to know users more and more thoroughly and readily respond to their specific requests. Furthermore, they also try to gather potentially interested individuals and groups, thus creating new communities of users. In any case, the appreciation of the implicit knowledge of users is valuable as a pledge in the process of ending the binary opposition of business and research value of archives. This is most visible in the example of community archives, which rely very directly on small stories. The analysis of the work of the Special Collection of Ethnographic Materials of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research in Zagreb, Croatia, served here as an example of those services that function as informal special research archives and were created for their needs by the parent institutions. It was at the same time an example of a special collection that takes over evaluation criteria from other specific forms of archives, such as community archives, precisely recognizing the aforementioned qualities as a bridge to a more inclusive archival activity. The relationship between employees and users was examined through the lens of different methodologies, projects and cooperation in approaching archival records. Special emphasis was placed on the contemporary models of community involvement. Based on the review of the record lists of external users over a period of 60 years and the management of social networks, it was shown to what extent the characteristic approach to archival records and users, more precisely, their presentation and dissemination, affects the specificity of the formal and legal status of the Institute's Special Collection. The paper also concludes that social networks are not only important for promotion, dissemination and networking, but that due to the already mentioned inclusion they represent a completely new environment. Certain individuals within this environment transform from passive followers into a new, modern type of users of institutions within the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) community. The paper studies the history of the Croatian State Archives (CSA) during the Second World War, from the establishment of the Independent State of Croatia on 10 April 1941 to its collapse in May 1945. The main goal of the paper is to outline the activities of the CSA in the mentioned period, with emphasis on the professional and conservational activity of the CSA. The political and ideological features that were part of the public life in this period are only taken into account if they had a direct influence on the CSA's activity or its employees. One chapter is dedicated to Josip Matasović, the director, who headed the CSA and whose dedication and professionalism at the same time successfully bypassed the ideological and political challenges present in those days. Matasović is particularly responsible for the modernisation of the CSA in organisational terms, and his orientation towards protecting the archives remains the heritage of the archival profession until today. His impartialness and professionalism made it possible that might had continued working after the war and establishment of the communist Yugoslavia, which was rare for the high-positioned state officials. The central part of the paper concerns the work of the CSA, which covers wider panoply of activities of the institution during the entire period. The inherited organisational structure is outlined and its further development is also shown in the context the new state- and legal framework. The problems which faced the CSA' employees are particularly emphasized, many of which were the result of the wartime- and political situation the entire state was facing. The CSA tried to meet these challenges in order to protect the archives, as well as to develop the institution itself. By outlining the turn of events it is shown how the course of the war negatively affected the activity of the CSA and the destruction of the archives. The chapter on the CSA's employees may serve as a supplement of the previous chapter, since their professionalism and dedication contributed to the more successful running of the institutional activities. The most important employees of the period are mentioned individually, with special emphasis on their involvement in important projects and daily activities, and their personal thoughts on the archival profession and organization of the CSA. The next chapter is dedicated to archives and it shows the most important acquisitions of the CSA. It also puts emphasis on the general circumstances of the archives and particularly their destruction during wartime. During the war the activities of the CSA mostly pertained to the protection of endangered materials and acquiring the archives, as the most challenging task of the CSA. The problems the CSA faced in the period were mostly a result of its augmented jurisdiction, as well as wartime events that made its professional engagement even more difficult. The activities and the dedication of the CSA's employees who tried to meet those challenges is the best indicator of the circumstances of the archival profession in Croatia of the period, but it also paves the way of its development in the post-war era. For different reasons the important records from the period of the Homeland War were also kept or are still kept by the private holders, whether these records were created by institutions or individuals, associations and organizations. By acknowledging the importance of such records and the sensitivity in its acquiring the Croatian Memorial-Documentation Centre of the Homeland War has started to collect them ever since it was established in 2005. By establishing the Centre as the central institution for archival and scientific research of the Homeland War, the Centre is recognised in the public as a trustworthy institution to which everyone interested to hand over the records can turn to. The private holders of the archives from the Homeland War can be divided into those who are the creators of archives and those who in various ways became possessors of public archives. The Centre can acquire records of private holders in two ways; mostly through donations, and partly by purchasing records that are particularly valuable and that were created as someone's authorship. After acquiring, the records are registered, appraised and classified, after which they form individual fonds or they supplement existing fonds and collections. Among the conventional archives, besides military documentation, the Centre acquired various newspapers, magazines and official papers, military maps, political and military posters, caricatures etc. The majority of the acquired records were digitized, due to a more efficient storage and keeping, as well as the desire of holders to keep the originals. The majority of archives from private holders are unconventional records (photographs, video and audio clips), i.e. the re-recorded and digitized conventional records. The archives acquired from individual private holders were in terms of subject and quantity appraised as a rounded off whole and after the archival processing it was decided to form personal papers. By the end of 2016 the Centre had ten of them. Besides these, the Centre also stores memoirist records of private holders, whether it concerns records created by structured interviews or written entries of the direct participants of the Homeland War. The Centre published part of these in 17 books as part of its publishing activity. Also, several photo-monographs were published based on the received or bought photographs from the private holders. Among the private holders from which the Centre got the archives are also the historians-researchers who gave or deposited in the Centre the materials they used, after finishing a certain research or a book. The majority of the acquired and processed archives of private holders are available to researchers through fonds and collections of the Centre. The basic problem regarding the acquiring of the records of private holders pertains to certain indistinctness in the Act on the Archives and the ignorance of holders regarding their obligations prescribed by the law which entails relinquishing of the public archives to the Centre. Besides ignorance, some of the holders advertently kept these records in their keeping mostly out of fear of misuse and the negative perception of the activity of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. However, after the acquittal of the generals Gotovina and Markač in late 2012 and the greater public recognisability of the Centre, the inflow of archives from public holders has been increased. Another problem in acquiring records of this kind is the parallel activity of certain individuals and associations with similar archival activities. As far as arranging is concerned, due to the large quantities of acquired records and their stockpiling in the future it will be necessary to pay greater attention to their appraisal and disposal. Still, it could be said that the archives of the private holders prominently features in the Centre's professional archival policy and that so far the important amount of such records had been acquired. Despite certain difficulties concerning their processing, these records are an important source for archivists, researchers and historians, particularly for subjects that are wider than the more usual political and military ones. We often witness the fact of knowing very little or almost nothing about private and everyday life of the people from the past. Due to the lack of reliable sources one has to be content with arid facts and information such as the year and place of birth, beginning and the end of education, service and employment, social activity, scientific work, and place and year of death. Even this basic information is sometimes hard or impossible to find. For that very reason the personal papers of the renowned intellectual and public official Emil Laszowski, stored in the Croatian State Archives, is considered particularly valuable. It features the saved diary, memoir and autobiographical data written about his life by Laszowski and they offer a first hand insight into his life in its entirety, with all the details and events that formed it. Since life of an individual is always inter- woven with fates and lives of other people, from friends and relatives to casual acquaintances, these kinds of notes also speak about persons who formed the totality of living known to us even today and which is often almost impossible to reconstruct in the past reality. What Laszowski left behind as a diligent archivist is really a document of his entire life, from its beginning to its end, with (almost) all events and persons that characterised it. Due to the amplitude of the data from his personal papers, this article shows only one of its parts, from Laszowski's birth to enrolment to the Law School at Zagreb's University. It shows in a very picturesque and "life-related" way Laszowski's origin, his next of kin, childhood, schooling, friends, first loves, facing the reality and so on. One has to bear in mind of course, that this gives a subjective (retrospective) image and that some details (including the comments by the article's author) has to be taken with a certain amount of care. On the other hand, no one knew better about the Laszowski's life and the people who characterised it than Laszowski himself and we can only be thankful that he left us such an interesting testimony about it. Croatian archival regulations (Archives and Archival Institutions Act and Ordinance on the Management of Records Outside the Archival Institutions) prescribe the procedure of the verification of compatibility of rules, technologies and procedures for conversion of archival materials into digital form. The procedure is carried out by the Croatian State Archives as the central state archives in the Republic of Croatia. It concerns a complex procedure of verification of a specific IT system for digitization which requires acceptance and implementation of appropriate standards and norms from the public authorities, other bodies or individuals in order for digitized records to be transferred in a certain way to authorised archives and consequently ensure their long-term protection. The paper provides answers to several current issues from conformity check procedures that can help public authorities and other interested parties in reconciliation of business processes and preparing documentation necessary for obtaining a certificate of conformity. The article shows, on the example of Croatian newspapers in Australia and New Zealand, the possibilities of researching the publications of Croatian emigrants. The goal of the Croatian Emigrant Press project implemented at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, is explained. The method of creating bibliographies within the project (with views in ISBD and MARC 21 formats) is also explained, as is the research methodology, which includes searching library catalogues, community engagement (crowdsourcing) and searching archival materials. The role of archives as heritage institutions that are indispensable in the research of publications is especially explained. Examples are given of New Zealand and Australian newspapers for which the only surviving sources are archival ones. One New Zealand newspaper (Glas istine, The Voice of Truth) has not been preserved in any of its copies, but documents preserved in the New Zealand archives prove that they were published. A similar example is of an Australian newspaper (Svijetlo, The Light) for which a document was found which makes it clear that the person who wrote the document had the publication in his hands. Images of documents related to the research of Croatian newspapers are also presented in the paper. One of these documents is related to the implementation of censorship in Australia in the 1930s and indicates that it were the Croatian newspapers Iskra (The Sparkle) and Oganj (The Flame) that influenced the amendments to regulations in order to control press as effectively as possible. The importance of private archives and community archives within Croatian associations is pointed out, and new possibilities for researching Croatian publications in archives in countries where emigrated Croats live are also emphasized. Archival public relations are defined as a complex communicational process (by focusing on the coordination of the public and private interests) whose purpose is supposed to manage the archives' public image and, depending on the possibilities, support its marketing (advertising) activities. The special emphasis within analysing possibilities of the applicability of public relations in the activities of contemporary archives is put on publications, since they are one of the best known and most popular archival programs. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the historical development of publishing activities of Croatian archives, as well as the contemporary managerial process of archival publishing as a promotional tool and in the context of the public relations. The analysis of the historical development of the publishing activities of Croatian archives had been based on the available literature, as well as documents of the individual archives and Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia. The research in the network of the state archives (regional archives and the Croatian State Archives) on managing the publishing activities had been conducted on a onetime basis via the questionnaire in the period from the 2nd to 7th March 2022. The main finding of the analysis is that the Croatian archives soon became aware of the techniques of early public relations' models and tried to implement them to the publishing activities. The strategic planning of their publishing activities, including the analysis of preferences of archival public based on the continuing interpersonal communication between archives and users, as well as the analysis of the communication with potential media and wider general public, can be considered as the important segment of public relations, whose purpose ought to be part of the archival management. The specified models imply a two-way symmetry of the public relations. Due to the fact that already in the mid-20th century the planning of publishing activities included interpersonal communication with actual users of archival services, it implies an early implementation of informational-communicational aspects in the strategic planning of archival program activities meant for their users i.e. the attempt of integration of the discipline of the public relations in archival project management. The publishing activities within the primary tasks of the archival network of state archives in independent Republic of Croatia formally kept continuity based on the existing Archives and Archival Institutions Act. Publishing of archival publications is stimulated by users' needs for better understanding and finding of archival records, as well as by archives' endeavours to increase as much as possible the sales of their services. According to the available information on the websites of the Croatian archives, and catalogues of the National and University Library in Zagreb on their publications from 1991 to 2022 (published on their own or co-published with other institutions), it can be concluded that archival publishing activities have gone into full swing after democratic changes. Still, the publishing policy did not undergo major changes compared to the earlier period. After 1991 the publishing activities are still mostly focused on publication of archival sources with the aim of increasing their availability. Apart from that, the results of research concerning the contemporary archival publishing activities in Croatia as promotional tools and in the context of the public relations indicate the need for their reorganisation, especially in the phase of strategic planning and evaluation, with additional stimulation of the development of digital versions of archival publications. The Bulletin d' archives from 2021 published the results of a survey on participants in public consultations (e-counsellings) on regulations and planning documents on public archival service in Croatia. The subject was suited for a complete elaboration, since in the period from 2017 to 2020 the competent Ministry of Culture (renamed in July 2020 into Ministry of Culture and Media) had carried out counsellings via the central internet portal on eight legal acts (two laws, five ordinances and one planning document). Apart from the new ordinance on registers and other official archival documentation that has yet to be regulated, this constitutes a comprehensive normative and planning framework of the public archival service. Inter alia, the results of that research indicated a rather low level of interest of the general public, as well as the professional archival community for the normative infrastructure of the public archival service. The lower turnout was put into context of influences of the e-counsellings that had so far taken place, regarding the formation of the final proposals of legal acts in terms of the level of acceptance of the sent suggestions (comments). Analysis of this segment, i.e. the status with which the comments were marked after the e-counsellings (accepted, partially accepted, not accepted, duly noted, unanswered) are presented in this paper. This seeks to encourage scientific interest in further research on this topic, especially within the ALM community (archives, libraries, museums). The results of the research show that the Ministry of Culture and Media, as the competent state administration institution, fully or partially accepted 79 or 19.1 % of the total of 412 sent comments. This percentage is slightly lower than the average percentage of accepted and partially accepted comments on e-counsellings at the state level (24 %). Analysis of the structure of comments by two groups of participants (professional archival community, general public) showed an equal share of accepted and partially accepted comments in the total number of comments submitted by each group (18.8 % of comments of the professional archival community and 20 % of comments of the general public). Accepted and partially accepted comments were also analysed according to their content and classified into two basic categories: technical and professional comments. The share of unaccepted comments turned out to be very high (201 comments or 48.8 %). Nevertheless, as a kind of incentive for participation on future e-counsellings, it should be noted that two thirds of the accepted comments are related to professional comments. Although modest in terms of number or percentage (53 comments or 13 % of the total of 412 comments sent to the analysed e-counsellings), this data still reflects the valuable contribution of participants in shaping the normative infrastructure of the archival service, i.e. respect for their competence by the legislator. The paper examines the current scholarly insights about the beginnings of the official development of Croatian military terminology from the second half of the 19th century, primarily about the uniqueness of the role of Bogoslav Šulek as its founder. The research of primary sources proves that Šulek - although a pivotal figure in military terminography efforts - was not the only creator of the Croatian military lexis. By studying the archives in Zagreb and Vienna, a number of authors came to light, who translated military manuals into Croatian amid the dynamic establishment of the Croatian Home Guard. Moreover, in addition to numerous military literature titles, they also published two pioneering military-language manuals. The authors belonged to the Home Guard officer's teaching staff, so Šulek stood as the only non-military person among them. The new configuration of those responsible for the establishment of Croatian military terminology reveals how some important titles have so far been wrongly attributed to Šulek, but also points to new insights into the scope of Šulek's opus and the availability of his titles. The comparison of officers' translations with those of Bogoslav Šulek completes the mosaic of the linguistic conception of the construction of Croatian military terminology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper presents history of archival service on Šibenik territory. Based on the documents from fonds of the State Archives in Šibenik, the paper analyzes circumstances that had led to a series of failed attempts at establishing regional archives based in Šibenik. Adverse conditions for developing archival service through the work of Records Center Šibenik, as a division of the Historical Archives in Zadar, had affected the quality of protection and preservation of archives held by the institution and creators/custodians on Šibenik territory. The States Archives in Šibenik was established in 2007 by Croatian Government's Regulation, and registered by the end of 2008. The paper gives a definition of map as the basic material of the cartographic collections and presents a brief historical overview of the history of cartography, with special reference to Croatia in the history of cartography. Cartographic material was analyzed as an important part of the collections of heritage institutions, libraries, archives and museums. The paper emphasizes the diversity of approaches to organizing and processing of cartographic materials according to the type of institution.
