This paper focuses on selected historiography concepts of the soviet historian and ethnologist L. N. Gumilev (1912–1992). The main aim is to present Gumilev’s revision of the Kulikovo battle (1380). Paper is based on his two articles published in 1980 on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the event. Primary sources are supplemented by Gumilev’s correspondence deposited in Prague and St. Petersburg. Paper clarifies alleged Eurasianist aspects of Gumilev’s articles and consequences of their ambivalent reception in the intellectual milieu of Russian nationalists. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In my paper I focused on the anniversary of the Romanian „Great Union“ (The Declaration of Alba Iulia, 1. 12. 1918) and of the Hungarian signing of the Trianon Peace Treaty (4. 6. 1920). Although these two anniversaries are closely connected, they play very different roles in the national narratives and in the collective memories of Romanians and Hungarians. No wonder that also the ways and aims of their commemoration are significantly different. First, I tried to explain in short what had happened on those two dates a century ago, then I sum up the history of the two anniversaries along the 20th century, and finally I took a look at their commemoration and instrumentalization in the present, with the occasion of the centenary. The focus of the paper is on the topic celebrations of anniversaries important for society of The First Czechoslovak Republic. Emphasis is put on the contrast between the celebrations of the Czechoslovak Legion and the sidelining of non-Legionary military activities after the First World War. The article covers the forms of commemorating during the representative festivities and the progressive development of their selection. The Czechoslovak Army posed an integral part of all of significant celebrations of the Czechoslovak nation. A Report on the Conference Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Foundation of The Society of Modern Philologists [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In 2008, Hradec Králové celebrated the 700th anniversary of founding of the Bishopric Cathedral of St. Spirit. On that occasion, also one part of the Bishopric collection of medals, coins, orders, insignia, etc. was presented to the public. The beginning of the collection is connected with the personality of the Bishop Mořc Pícha (1931-1956). At the end of 2008, the collection consisted of 1,050 pieces, 356 coins inclusive. The coins are preserved in the Bishopric library and they are basically divided into two parts. The first group was not created systematically, and it consists of modern coins circulating in the end of the 19th century and during the 20th century. There are also some specific pieces preserved there because of their religious motives or because of other connections with the church. The second group is represented by the coins from the beginning of the 18th century to the mid-19th century. It was generally created as a collection of the so-called baptismal coins, presented to children at the day of their baptism - these pieces were collected because of their ecclesiastic character. From the numismatic point of view, they are regarded as invaluable because of their piercing or adding pendants. The conventional twenty-kreuzer pieces struck under the Habsburgs represent the vast majority of this group of the collection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Czech National Bank issued seven coins in 2009. The following 200 CZK silver pieces were struck: Chairmanship of the Czech Republic in the Council of the European Union, World Championship in the classical skiing, 100th anniversary of reaching the North Pole, 400th death anniversary of rabbi Yehuda Loew ben Becalele and 400th anniversary of formulation of the Kepler's principle of the planet moving. Special issues in the series 'Cultural Monuments of the Technological Heritage' were represented by Floodgate on the Elbe River near Strekov and Wind Mill in Ruprechtov. In 2008, a new medal was issued on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Hradec Kralove. Two types of the medal have been produced: a silver one (Ag 999) of the highest quality with plain edge (250 pieces) and an issue made of base metal (Ms 80) of the standard quality (350 pieces). The article presents information on a medal issued to commemorate the 40th anniversary of founding of the Zlín branch of the Czech Numismatic Society. The medal is stated to be of first quality, with plain edge. It is also stated that the medal is produced in three types including one in silver and two in gold.
