This Bachelor thesis deals with the analysis and comparison of the causes, processes and consequences of the decolonization of former French and British Colonies in West Africa, namely Senegal and Ghana. The work is based on an examination of the hypothesis: "Different systems of colonial administration and their consequences have differently influenced the character of the decolonization process and postcolonial relations between the former colonies and their rulers ". The focal point of the research are factors emanating directly from the colonies, such as the system of colonial administration, the system of colonial education, indigenous elites, and political mobilization. As part of the approach to the theoretical level, the work is based on the concepts of colonialism, decolonization and neocolonialism. It is neo- colonialism that is related to a subsequent research question, which seeks to examine the presence and extent of neo-colonialism in these African countries during the first ten years of independence. The results of the research point to significant differences in the colonial administration, which have implications for the type and behavior of indigenous elites and thus political mobilization and different approaches of political leaders to the process of decolonization. The bachelor thesis deals with the process of cocoa cultivation and production of chocolate. Its theoretical framework is based on the following concepts: regional development, transport infrastructure. The analytical part focuses on Ghana and Ivory Coast, dealing with the cocoa manufacturing industries, revenues and costs in cocoa production chain and the interactions between the governments and the international market. Furthermore, the impact of cocoa production on development of employment, education and transport infrastructure in these countries is analyzed. In suggestion part, recommended solutions of the main problems related to the cocoa production and manufacturing industry in Ghana and Ivory Coast are presented.

This bachelor thesis analysis current state of waste and waste management. Also describe its instruments, types of waste, options its treatment, assesses impacts and its influences to environment. In the next chapter is analyzed problems with waste in developing countries, specifically in Africa. In thesis are chosen three zones of Africa by level HDI and from each is decribed condition of its waste management. Next there are evaluated major problems of waste in Africa and perspectives and its solutions.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the development of urbanization as a process of concentration of population in cities, and to identify its impact on development in Ghana focusing on the socio-economic dimensions of development. The first part focuses on the general characteristics of urbanization, its types and stages, causes, positives and negatives, as well as the global development of migration to the cities, and the situation in West Africa. The second part deals with the development of urbanization and the current situation in Ghana, and identification of its impact on socio-economic development. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the impact of international cocoa market prices on prices and production of cocoa in Ghana. The theoretical part of the thesis at first defines international trade and its importace and evolution in the world. Subsequently the international commodity trade is specifik, especially its terms of trade and world structure. After that the cocoa international trade is briefly introduced. The practical part at firn characterize Ghana from the perspective of agrarian sector, trade and policy. Subsequently cocoa commodity chain is described. The last part of the thesis is the analysis of the impact of international prices of cocoa on prices of cocoa in Ghana and its production. The analysis and its results are then discussed together with further suggestions and recommendations.

This bachelor thesis deals with the issues related to the role of women in agriculture in developing countries with a special focus on Africa. Theoretical part describes the position of women in several areas including property rights or climate change. Practical part applies these issues to a specific african region, while the performed SWOT analysis directed at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Ghana allows a deeper insight into the topic. The aim is to describe the lack of women's strong position in african developing countries with a focus on Ghana, to bring a comprehensive insight into the whole issue and to suggest appropriate actions to empower the position of women not only in the agrarian sector but also within the whole society.

The primary aim of this thesis is to investigate the possibility of increasing the value addition to cocoa beans. This thesis offers possible opportunities to increase value addition by homemade chocolate processing and thereby increasing income of the farmers. The basic characteristics of the commodity is presented. Based on the analysis of the chosen farm business plan and financial analysis are made to evaluate the feasibility, profitability and profit. A regression analysis is made to determine dependence between potential returns and the social and economic consequences which affect the life of the farmers and their family. On the basis of the obtained results are set out recommendations and conclusions towards the improvement of living standarts of the small scale cocoa farmers in Ghana.

Main aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the inequality in education in Ghana. In the first part of the thesis there is literary review of the role of education in socio-economic development, of inequality in education and its general causes. Education is an important attribute of human capital and it is effective instrument for combating poverty. Subsequently is described the problematic of the digital divide and ICT in education, because nowadays teaching of information and communication technologies is an important assumption for quality education. The second part is focused on the level of inequality in education in Ghana and its causes. Also there is analyzed relationship between government expenditures on education and school enrolment rates. Finally, it discusses the issue of teaching ICT in the region and problems with its implementation. Based on the analysis, obtained results and possible recommendation are discussed.

Using the example of three commodities and three countries, the purpose of the thesis "Trade with selected commodities with focus on fair trade" is to analyse a chosen commodity market in different states. Focusing on developing countries, the work aims to confirm the validity of theoretical models of the international trade. Moreover, extra attention is paid to the alternative concept of fair trade. The thesis is divided into four chapters with the first giving the theoretical basis for the consequential analysis. The second chapter deals with the fair trade movement, the third part examines the concrete industry in the particular country, and the last chapter studies the consequences of fair trade on producers in the Sub-Saharan region.

This bachelor's thesis deals with the changes in the Ghanaian political system after its independence in 1957, with an emphasis on the changes made in the 90s which paved the way for democracy in Ghana. The work studies the development of Ghana's transition to democracy, particularly the actors and circumstances that allowed transition that shift. Furthermore, this thesis is analyses if transition in Ghana might be considered as completed and also if Ghana established a system that can be classified as democratic. Right after achieving independence with Kwame Nkrumah at the helm, Ghana began a gradual descend into a totalitarian regime. He began dismantle institutions and curtailed political competition with his opponents being forced into exile. Due Nkrumah's Soviet Union leanings, the country embarked on socialist experiments and ideology which ultimately that led the country into a series of crisis. In a short period of time (1966 - 1979), the country faced several military coup d'états that brought the country to a near economic collapse. A significant change was brought by J. J. There is a detailed PEST analysis with explanation and practical advises based on author's experience. It is followed by SWOT analyses from the Czech point of view. The goal of this thesis is to name the business opportunities in Ghana and to find the main differences of the Ghanaian market, which are crucial for the investor's decision whether to expand to Ghana or not.

This diploma thesis explores the emergence of the welfare state in developing countries, in particular shown on the example of Botswana, Ghana and India. The inquiry is focused on the period beginning in 1990, when the neoliberal paradigm was dominating, untill 2010. The recent years are in token of the shift from the neoliberalism to the post-neoliberalism characterized by a number of concepts, which are taking into account. The common feature of these concepts is the diversion from the narrow focus on GDP, as the only indicator of the growth, to the social dimension of the development. This shift is also being distinguished as a transition from the basic-needs concept to the rights-based approach. Therefore, the thesis explores, if these shifts are remarkable in the analyzed countries, eventually, if there are any divergences as compared to the theoretical concepts. To achieve this goal, a broader analysis of the welfare state was used, which involves social, health and education policy. Based on this analysis, the diploma thesis tries to classify the analyzed countries into the welfare state typology; eventually, in case such classification is impossible, it describes the weaknesses of this welfare state the typology. This bachelor thesis compares remittances and official development assistance in Ghana and Nigeria. The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part the reader is familiar with the theoretical definition of remittances and ODA. The second part describes the situation in the area of remittances in Ghana and Nigeria - including the quantification of the flows of remittances. This section also describes the use and transfer of remittances in the region. The last part compares ODA and remittances in Ghana and Nigeria. The comparison is done primarily by quantification of both flows and their impact on the population and economy of the country. The aim of this thesis is to provide the reader some useful information about remittances and ODA in Ghana and Nigeria.

The Sub-Saharan Africa region is a part of world with great growth potential. On the other hand it is a region which has always have to solve the same problems of its development - poverty, illiteracy, indebtness etc. Most serious causes of limited development of human capital are health conditions of african population. Even in comparison with other developing regions the prevalence of infectious diseases is pretty high. Infectious diseases effect african society in its demographic, social and economic profile. Their importance is caused not only by direct consequences and costs of their high prevalence. Long-term impact on social structure poses much more serious challenge for future development of the region. Initially, the work describes general development trends in the Sub-Saharan African region. The second part focuses on particular infectious diseases, their prevalence and impact on society. The last chapter is focused on situation in Ghana - health profile of its population and current reforms that show possible future development of health financing policy in african countries.

The first chapter describes the political and economic development in Ghana and its impact on the creation of the formal educational system since the first european invasion on the african continent and the beginnings of colonialism until the end of 1990's. The second chapter analyses current educational system, especially its newly reformed structure and functioning. The third chapter concentrates on the two main problems of the educational system in Ghana, which are child labour and low quality of education.

This thesis is concerned with both positive and negative economic aspects of Fair Trade and addresses the influence of Fair Trade production of cocoa in Ghana on its economic development. The objective is to find out, if Fair Trade is the propriate tool to eradicate poverty in this country.

Diploma thesis "Effectiveness of Danish development aid to Ghana" deals with effectiveness of Danish development aid which is defined in close relation to the concept of sustainable development. The chosen approach for analysis is empirical-analytical methodology. The thesis starts with analysing Danish development concepts in order to point out the size of influence of the main actors of Danish development aid during procedure of their creation. Forementioned analysis is followed by comparison of the main principles of the concept of sustainable development and important objectives of analysed Danish concepts. This part is important for giving reader the main links between chosen concept of sustainable development and Danish development strategies. Final part of the thesis measures the aid effectiveness of Danish strategies for Ghana, based on Joint Evaluation findings with particular interest in health sector. The effectiveness is measured on the basis of sustainable criterion, which is related to seven factors of the sustainable development.

Obsahem diplomové práce je analýza podnikatelského prostředí Ghany, jejích obchodních zvyklostí a kulturních specifik a dopadů těchto specifik na podnikání v zemi; kromě toho se práce zabývá i obchodní spoluprací této subsaharské země s Českou republikou. Hlavním cílem je analyzovat podmínky obchodu mezi těmito zeměmi a nalézt příležitosti pro další prohloubení a rozvoj vzájemných obchodních vztahů. V závěru se práce dotýká i problematiky obchodních vztahů EU a subsaharské Afriky.

Millenium development goals project is the key topic of the diploma paper. This project was started in 2000 and belongs to the responsibility od the UN. There are eight key development areas-goals set in the project. This goals should be met by 2015. The diploma paper is focused on the development of each of the goal in the West African country Ghana. There are two parts. First part focuses on the economic, cultural, historical and demografical description of the country. Second part is aimed at the Millenium project. The global trends are decribed at the beginning and the development towards the goals in Ghana is described in details in the following text.

Ghana is one the developing West African countries. As compared with European countries, the standard of the health services is low. In 1996 Ghana had only 28 ophthalmologists per 16 million population. In practice this is manifested by blindness of almost 1% of the population, mostly as a results of cataract. Within the framework of the internationally organized control of blindness, specialists travel to Ghana to help resolve the problem of blindness. One of the discussed forms of assistance are short-term visit of eye surgeons in hospital centres. In the article practical experience of an eye surgeon in a small mission hospital is described.
